RAW files converted to JPEG files on my mac can't be seen by my customer who has a PC: WHY?

I have been using Adobe CS5 for over a year now but only recently discovered how Adobe Bridge helps with work flow and post processing. My first time using Bridge I put all my RAW NEF files into folders and, after processing them in Photoshop, put all the JPEG files into a seperate folder. Before sending said JPEG images to my client, I batch renamed them to make sure the image file numbers were in the proper consecutive order. My client, who is a PC user, received these images and said she was unable to view them. Her computer system isn't outdated and I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm wondering if there was a formating change that happened when I did the batch rename or if the problem is Adobe Bridge altogether? I did all these on my Mac Book Pro which is only a year old..What am I missing??

Did each image have its .jpg extension? i think Windows likes to see the extension, Macs don't care.

I just bought the Nikon D750 and my raw files will not open in CC Photoshop. Is anyone else that has this camera experienced this problem?
My Photoshop says it is up to date, but I am hoping that since this camera just came out, Adobe will have an raw file update soon.

DNG Converter is FREE.  Yes, really.  No subscription needed.
    - Baloney, NOT FREE, it's a proprietary software, not open AT ALL, see Legal Notices, so stop trying to distort the truth here.
Camera Raw (& DNG Converter) 8.7RC has been available since 2nd October, and opens D750 files in Photoshop & Bridge (& Lightroom using DNG Converter).
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.7 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
    - Still a cumbersome process for this of us that PAID for software and support, the whole point of this discussion is to implement this directly on LR, so we, the PAYING users don't have to waste time doing a useless process that could be EASILY AVOIDED ig Adobe released updates as they are needed, or if they OPENED THE SOURCE CODE so the community could do it.
Adobe created DNG, which is a well-documented backwards-compatible format, which is free for any manufacturer to use.
See here for manufacturers who do (it's an old list, but you get the idea):
    http://www.barrypearson.co.uk/articles/dng/products_cameras.htm
    - Really? Did you actually read the site? It has PRECIOUS information that illustrate my point: Adobe DNG is an attempt to stop the OpenSource community from achieving the goals of OpenRaw, which is TRUE OPENNESS, Again, Adobe is trying to get manufacturers to PAY LICENSING so they use a PROPRIETARY FORMAT that will HOLD CUSTOMERS on a PAID platform. OpenRaw is he answer for a true competitive environment.
Ask yourself why other manufacturers don't use a documented backwards-compatible format.
    - Easy, because they are lazy and want kick-back. The SAME answer that I (and the entire OS community) would give if you asked about Acrobat or MS Office.
If you use a particular piece of software as your main tool, and you buy a camera which isn't yet supported by it, it's your problem. There is an expression used in the industry:
"Poor Planning on your part does not constitute an Emergency on my part."
    - I agree here, it's MY PROBLEM that I decided to have a better product, it was my choice. I can still use OS Tools, which will be what I do moving forward, and about that expression, that is EXACTLY why Adobe will keep loosing customers, because the sense of urgency to help who pays their bills is inexistent. You are correct, why should they rush something so simple to help a customer right? Screw the customer... Thanks for making my point...

I downloaded the new version of bridge and it wont open the raw files on my mac.

hello and thank you for your suggestion. I have tried it and, when trying to open a program which I previously was able to, still get the following message:
    Remote XUL
This page uses an unsupported technology that is no longer available by default in Firefox.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
Seems unbelievable that I previously had no problem and now I do. Have you any suggestions to overcome this? Do you think I can go back further in Firefox history to get a version that will make it possible to access this. Many thanks! Lynn

  • CS3 files made in Mac can open in Windows? s

If you save a Photoshop or Illustrator whatever file in Mac, can you open and work on it in Windows without any compatibility issues?
I am curious if I can work on a same CS3 file both on Mac and Windows.

The short answer is, "Yes". Photoshop on either platform will open a TIFF, Photoshop .psd, EPS, or any other file you save from PS. Same with Illustrator and InDesign.
As far as incompatibility, it's the same as it's always been. If you use layers effects in CS3 that don't exist in CS2, then they of course won't work when you try to open the file in CS2 on either the Mac or in Windows. And as Limnos mentioned, there's always them darn fonts. If you use OpenType fonts, you can copy those from one platform to the other to avoid slight differences in Mac Type 1 PostScript fonts as opposed to Windows Type 1 PS fonts, which cannot be used cross platform.

  • RAW file gone for good - can I access my 1:1 preview to save as a JPEG?

Stupid me formatted my CF card in the camera and lost my photos - I used Lexar's Image Rescue and also CardRaider to get them back, but one can't be recovered. I do have a 1:1 preview in my Lightroom library. How can I get to that JPEG and at least save that version of the photo, which is better than nothing? I know it is hidden in the lrdata file but don't know how to proceed from there, if it's even possible.
I am running Lightroom 1.4.1 on a Mac with Leopard 10.5.3
If anyone can help, that would be great!

Actually, LRViewer would be the one if you still have your Catalogue and Previews. From http://ImageIngester.com by Marc Rochkind.

  • Help with raw images converted to jpegs on mac

Hello there. I recently took some photos with my nikon in the raw format by accident and had my brother convert them into jpegs. After trying to upload the images to iphoto, the images aren't there. My brother said I would have to look them up in "my computer" and then I would be able to view them.  I can do this with my old computer but can't seem to find anywhere on my mac where I can look up "my computer" and open the files on my sd card which I thought would be called Drive(e) or mass storage device. I have been impressed with the iphoto capabilities and would love to view the images I took of Hanging Lake in Colorado. Thank you for your time.
    Dwayne Sparks

There is no "uploading" to iPhoto - you must Import photos to iPhoto
Exactly what did you do and what issues are you having?
As with any photo (supported RAW or JPEG) you simply import them into iPhoto and use iPhoto to manage them and access them by the normal iPhoto access methods - <a href="http://web.me.com/larryhn/iPhoto_08_(version_7.x.x)_FAQ/Accessing_iPhoto_Photos. html"> click here for a discussion on the many correct and safe ways to access your iPhoto library photos.</a>

  • MY CS5 does not support my new Canon 7D Mark II camera Raw files on my Mac - what needs to be downloaded?

I'm having trouble getting the CR2 files from my new Canon 7D Mark II camera to CS5/Bridge - it says the files are not supported by the installed version of RAW.  The DNG Converter dos not seem to help (I noticed it works for CS6 & CC only)  What needs to be done?

I don't know your OS. If you have Vista (Windows) or OSX 10.6.8, you can only go to DNG 8.3, not the 8.7.1 you need.
    What is your OS version?

  • I can't rename or move RAW files in Bridge (Mac)

Permissions are all set to read/write in finder and other file formats are fine. Batch rename just does nothing, trying to move it gets the error message "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient permissions"
Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 and all software is up to date.
    Help?

    Alas, I just found a jpeg I can't move.
There are two things to try also.
Don't know if you have cached a lot of files already but personally I would manual dump the Cache file for Bridge and also the second option, dump the plist file for bridge.
You have to cache the files again but that takes only a bit of time, depending on amount and file size.
Also you have to go to the user library that by default is hidden in 10.7. I'm still on 10.6 but there are a lot of solutions on Google to retrieve the user library.
Quit Bridge (and for safety all other CS Suite apps.)
in the user library preferences folder find the Bridge  (still not clear what version you are using?) plist file but for CS5 that is Bridge version 4 (com.adobe.bridge4.plist) and manual drag to the trash.
Then in the same library caches folder go to Adobe/BridgeCS5 / and in here delete both the cache folder and plug in to the trash.
Again run check and repair permissions on your Mac and then restart Bridge again with option key and again reset preferences.
Yes, you have to recreate the custom settings but that is only a few minutes, al your saved workspaces and keyword list are still in place and workspace reset gets your saved workspaces back (only without the UI colors, but those are also easy to recreate)

  • How can changes made to RAW files on a Mac be recognized on a PC?

Some students using Bridge on a Mac made changes, but when I download the xmp files to my PC, none of their changes show.  What do I need to do to remedy this?

If you want to continue to use your CF card, you should invest in an Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit. It lets you directly plug in to your iPad (via the bottom Apple port) a CF card reader, that you can use to read and or write images directly from the card.
You can find it here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531ZM/A
Actually, the CCK won't work with a CF card reader.  I know because I tried.
Unless your camera uses an SD card and shoots JPGs (like many point-and-shoot cameras), forget using the iPad and CCK as a storage/backup device for photos in the field.  It's just not suited for it.  The memory is too small (especially if you shoot RAW) and the interfaces are not easy to use.  If you use CF cards, you would be much better off investing in a portable storage device that accepts CF cards straight away, something like the Sanho Hyperdrive.

  • PDF File downloaded from Mac Can't Read From Windows 7

    Hi,
I am now doing a research, and every time when I copy the reference paper in PDF format from Mac to a flash drive, it could not be read from Windows at the university lab. Usually some pages of the file was missing. This really cause me a pain. Please help me.   Thanks...
    Max

Almost all flash drives are formatted as a Windows drive. When you copy almost any file to the flash drive two different files are created. One corresponds to the data fork of the Mac file and the second is a resource fork. When viewed from Windows the resource fork has the same name as  the original file but it preceded by a period. This resource fork file should be ignored. The real file as far as Windows is concerned is the data fork file.
Now if the file you are moving to Windows can be opened and is missing pages, then that is not the fault of Reader or the Mac OS. But is related to how you are creating or obtaining the file.

  • FCSvr -handling of still image RAW files ?

    Hello,
does anybody know if FCSvr supports RAW files like Canon .cr2 or Nikon .nef images - or does it at least read and archive the exif and iptc data in its database together with the location of the unattached RAW file ?
    Sincerely Ullrich

    Ullrich,
Make sure you are running FC Svr 1.1.1. It has some new metadata groups, one which is for EXIF info. The release notes are here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/releasenotes/en/FinalCut_Server_1.0rn/
Add the PAGRP_CUST_PHOTO_INFOEXIF metadata group to the desired metadata sets, and then either reanalyse or upload new clips.
There might be additional XMP/IPTC fields that you want to map in. You can look at the metadata in the file itself by using 'Search Devices' and then double clicking on the desired file. Once you find the external metadata field that you want, you can map it to a custom field that you have created in FC Svr.
Also, regarding RAW support - FC Svr should be able to read any RAW file that the mac can open.

  • Converting RAW files to JPEG on import?

    Is this possible?
I normally shoot RAW, but I've got about 100 shots on my card which I just need JPEGs for. I was just wondering if it was possible to convert them on import rather than import as RAW then convert to JPEG...?

Instead of using Aperture's import feature, go into the Finder and navigate to the folder on your memory card containing the images. Select only the JPGs (the low-res JPGs which your camera automatically creates with each RAW file) and drag them to the project in Aperture. If you have a lot of images and selecting them one by one is a hassle, you can either create an Automator action to select the JPGs, or you can drag all the images including RAW files to Aperture, and then sort by file size to separate the JPGs from the RAWs, and then select/delete the RAW images.
    Hope this helps.

  • I can't convert .cr2 canon raw files with DNG converter.

I have a Canon 1000D, and im trying to open RAW files to edit in cs4. Everytime i open it, photoshop says that it doesnt recognise this type of file, but i open my friends RAW file (450D) and it can read it. I have also downloaded DNG converter, and it comes up with this message (first image) but my folder has .cr2 files......im really lost
I have also asked for help on the photoshop forum, but they referred me here...
    Thanks

That file is only 2.7 megabytes.  Raw files are usually larger.  That likely means it's truncated (cut off prematurely).
You haven't selected one of the modes called sRAW (Small Raw) have you?
