RAW files do not import to iPHOTO?

My camera is supported by my the current version of iPHOTO.
Two issues: I've imported 600+ photos in the past week. After importing I can view them, but the next time I open iPHOTO, I cannot locate them? I've checked everywhere???
Also, I shoot in RAW+JPEG, yet after importing the files, an error message displays that the 'file format is not compatible': ARW  (RAW files form a Sony Camera that IS on the list of supported cameras. What am I doing wrong??

So call me dumb :~)
When I set the date on the camera Sony RX100, I set the year as 2012 (bought it in Jan 2013). So All of the pocs were wayyyy back (a year back) and that is why I couldn't find them.
As for the RAW files, I still cannot import them to my iPHOTO library (iPhoto 9 version 8.1.2). The same thing occurs on my Mac Airbook with iPhoto 11. I tired, "
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?" That didn't solve the issue.
However, when I import into Adobe Lightroom, I have no issues??

My Nikon 7100 RAW files will not load into IPhoto.  The computer will recognize the files once the download is complete, but fails to finalize.  My version of IPhoto is 7.1.5 and my computer is a Mid 2007 Mac Mini Model.  I have Light Room 5, but my wife and I are prefer IPhoto for basic download and sharing.  Is there a possibility  of getting the RAW files to download ?

    what version of the OS?
You need Mt Lion and iPhoto '09 for your camera RAW support - OS X Mountain Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats -
If your computer will support tMavericks do the free upgrade to it and purchase the upgrade to iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x in the App store

  • File name not importing into iPhoto

I keep my photos on an external disk and import them from that disk into iPhoto. When I import, sometimes the file name is imported into the caption field and sometimes it does not.
Any ideas why? I have search for others posts but can't find any. I did check the permissions of the files representing both results and the permissions are the same.

What is displayed in the title field under the thumbnails?
Have you tried selecting the offending photos, going to the Photos->Batch Change menu and selecting Title to File Name option?

  • Raw files will not Import from Camera?

I have Elements 6 and Canon XSI. I took photos that I can view in my camera, when I attempted to import them into Elements 6 I'm getting the following messages: Not Imported- the files or folders seletect to import did not contain any supported file types.
also: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the organizer?
I have no idea what is happening or what to do?
    Thank you.

First off the problem you're having isn't being caused by the fact that you have a trial version of Aperture. The trial version is full featured, nothing is crippled.
You don;t state just what problems you are having when you try yo import into Aperture. Supplyinh that info might help figure out whats going on. Also I see by the product info on your post you're running Lion. Is that correct?

  • TIP: What to do if the Recovered Photos File will not import into iPhoto...

Like many others in this forum, I just upgraded to iWork/iLife '06. When I installed iPhoto '06 it trashed my existing iPhoto Folder and placed all of my other existing photos (those not already imported previously into iPhoto) into a recovered photos file. I tried and tried and tried to import those "recovered photos" into iPhoto but it kept returning an error message on import "Unreadable file"
Finally I selected the "recovered files" then clicked on "Get Info" and found that the permissions were "locked" with a padlock icon. Clicking once on the padlock opened the permissions back to me the "owner" and the iPhoto allowed me to import all of those 425 "recovered photos". Whew! I hope this tip helps someone else out - I had to figure this out on my own...

The fact that you can use the Raws from your XSi is of no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Changing the Raw specification is one of the ways of upgrading the cameras.
IPhoto and Aperture support -  or don't -  the same cameras.

  • Can Lightroom 3 or 4 be updated still? I just purchased a Nikon d800 but the Raw files will not import using a MAC

As above shows, I might be in the wrong place to ask here? But can any one give me leads to this issue or can anyone share if they had the same issue.

    1. You'll know because there's be a Camera Raw update in your Software Update.
    2. iPhoto 11 is the current version. It will support it.
If iPhoto - or any app - isn't meeting you needs, of course get another application.

  • Panasonic LX5 RAW not importing into iPhoto 09

I cannot import RAW photos taken with my Panasonic LX5. I assume that they are not supported yet. If i upgrade to iPhoto '11, will it support panasonic LX5 RAW?
When I search iPhoto help to see what camera's RAW files are compatible with iPhoto, I am redirected to Aperture 3's RAW compatibility listing. The help page says that the compatibility is the same for both Aperture and iPhoto and that listing says that Panasonic's LX5 is supported; however, there is a footnote that says Aperture 3 is required. Based on the fact that my RAW files won't open in iPhoto 09, it seems that the compatibility is not the same for iPhoto and Aperture.
I would much rather continue using iPhoto; so before I upgrade to iPhoto 11 or purchase Aperture 3, I would like to get a straight answer about iPhoto 11 supporting LX5's RAW.

It can't be done anywhere if you shoot Raw.
The workflow in your camera is as follows
Step 1: Take the shot -  this creates the Raw. The Raw is the data from the camera sensor and by definition this has no processing done on it.
Step 2: Process the Raw using the settings you have chosen and save it. That's saved as a Jpeg.
The Raw is what happens before processing. After processing it's not a Raw anymore.
The point of shooting Raw is that you decide what - and how - the effects are applied to the data, not the Camera. If you want the camera to do it, why are you shooting Raw?

  • Cant import raw files from sony rx1003 into iPhoto

Cant import raw files from sony rx1003 into iPhoto.  with rx1002 no problem! any suggestions?

Every model of a manufacture's camera have a different  RAW format and, therefore, you'll have to wait until Apple receives the necessary information from Sony so they can create a RAW Compatibility Updater that includes that model.
In the meantime you can try the Adobe RAW converter with might support that camera model to create a dmg file that iPhoto will recognize and begging shooting the highest resolution jpegs until the updater is released.

  • Changes to RAW in Photoshop not showing in iPhoto

I have iPhoto 9.5.1 and Photoshop CC 2014 and OSX 10.9.5.
I have set up Photoshop as the external editor, to work with RAW files, as follows:
When I edit a RAW file (by clicking edit in iPhoto), it opens up Camera RAW 8.7.1 in Photoshop, as I am expecting. If I make changes in Camera RAW, for example to the exposure, and then try to save it, either by clicking "Done" or "Save Image...", the changes to the exposure will not show up in iPhoto. But if I edit the image again (by clicking edit in iPhoto), in Photoshop it has saved the changes I made to the exposure.
Also, if I export the photo from iPhoto (without entering photoshop), it will export the unedited version, not the edited version.
This means if I want to look at my edited photos, or export them, I have to go into photoshop first. I don't think this is right. How do I fix this?

You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • Nikon .NEF Files - can not import these files - help please

    Hi Folks.
I just made the plunge into the dslr world, purchasing a nikon d40x. I want to shoot raw files and work with the keepers in PS. I saw LR and watched several on-line tutorials by michael tate, and decided to DL the trial version. I'm running windows XP, and attempted to import 51 .nef files and 8 .jpg files. I got the .jpgs - no problem, but received an error message for the .nefs as an "unrecanized format." I am importing directly from the camera, not a card reader.
I have searched this forum quite a bit, and I am well aware of the perils of ver 1.0 anything, so I'm not totally surprised there are so many usability issues on this forum. I am surprised to learn that RAW files are not standardized, which seems counter productive to me. Cn you imagine various audio CDs that were proprietary? In reading this form, it appears I will need to focus on the .DNG format, as archival across multiple hardware is (or will be) important to me.
On another note, how does a company release even a 1.0 version that does not reliably import nikon and cannon raw files? aren't these the perhaps two most popular camera manufacturers world-wide. In searching this forum, I noticed issues with nikon and canon raw files. Presumably oly, fuji, sigma, minolta, panasonic, kodak, and others work perfectly fine.
I am prepared to wait while adobe gets this program ship shape, as LR looks like it is going to be a great program. Perhaps I need to get version 1.01, but I certainly do understand this: ver 1.0 is really a beta version, and were all beta testers!
Again, any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. If I have to wait on LR for a while, is there anyone out there who would recommend another program?
    Thanks.

  • Import "RAW files only" also imports JPEGS (+ steps to reproduce)

I filed this bug report to Apple:
    Summary:
When importing "RAW files only" the accompanying JPEGs are also imported when the files are stacked (cmd-K) in the import screen.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create a new library
    2. Insert a card from a camera (checked with Canon G9, Lumix DMC-LX3) which holds RAW files and their accompanying JPEG files (same filename, different extension)
    3. Cmd-I to import, if the import screen does not open by itself.
    4. Make sure "RAW files only" is selected
    5. Select "Uncheck All"
    6. Select a few RAW files (for example 4) (click first, shift-click last, click checkbox, all 4 are selected at once)
    7. Cmd-K to put them in a stack.
Above the "Import Checked" button the number of files to be imported is shown, 4 in this case.
    8. Click "Import Checked"
Wherever the images are imported, not only the 4 RAW files will be imported, but also the accompanying JPEG files. This is also the case when only JPEGs are requested, in that case the RAW files will be imported as well.
Is is essential that the images to be imported are stacked in the import screen. If this is omitted, only the requested files (either RAW of JPEG) are imported (4 in this example).

    Hi again
Sorry the delay in getting back to my post but I've been a tad busy.
Well, after a bit of testing I can confirm that the problem does seem to be an issue with Vista (32bit and 34 bit) as Jeff states.
I tried importing the raw files into Vista 32-bit, Vista 64-bit and XP 32-bit and whilst all operating systems allowed the import of JPEG files, I was only able to import the raw files into XP.
I havent got a card reader so am unable to test this at the moment.

  • Just installed Iphoto 6 and many photos will not import to Iphoto...

    Chris:
Even though you've gotten back up and running if you have any thumbnails that show up as blanks again try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
The blank thumbnails after updating to v6 are often a result of permissions on the files getting messed up somehow preventing you from having access to them. Running BatChmod on the library folder as demonstrated will force the correct ownership and permissions on all of the files.
    Do you Twango?
