RAW files in CS4 Extended, I'm Wndows Vist platform

I have a Canon EOS 7D and a Canon EOS 50D and CS4 Extended, I've downloaded the camera raw 5.3 updater for windows.  The CS4 is recognising my raw files on my 50D but not my 7D, can someone help me out?

Get the latest 5.7 update. Support for the Canon 7D was added in 5.6 and is not available in 5.3.
The 5.7 Update for Windows:

I'm curious--what links or information lead you to download the 5.3 updater instead of the latest 5.7 updater? I assume you downloaded the update recently (April 22 or 23, 2010) based on the date of your post.
Thanks,
David

  • Cannot open raw files on CS4 extended even with plug in

Cannot open raw files from canon eos 400d in photoshop Cs4 extended. I have updated camera raw plug in and DNG converter but still no luck! I cannot get the images off the camera onto a file. Help, images of my 5 month old daughter are on the camera from when she was born!

    >I cannot get the images off the camera onto a file.
I presume you're on PC (since you don't bother to give that rather critical bit of info). On Windows you'll have to set your camera to be a mass storage device in order to even see the raw files. Best bet is use a card reader as you really shouldn't be trying to transfer image files directly from the camera. It's really slow and as you've found out, it's not "easy" like a card reader.

  • Opening Canon 5d MarkIII raw files in CS4?

I'm unable to find an update that will allow me to open Canon 5d Mark III raw files in CS4. I've downloaded a few updates, but nothing seems to be working. Help!

Convert the 5D Mark III Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS4.

To edit 5D Mark III Raw files, you need at least ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 6.7 (preferably 7.1). ACR is a plugin for Photoshop which Adobe must continually update on a camera by camera basis.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cam eras.html
CS6 was the first version to support ACR 7.1. CS5 supported ACR 6.x.

If you really want to edit Raw files, you would now be required to join the Creative Cloud since CS4 is no longer eligible to upgrade to CS6 or any version thereafter.
Your other option would be to buy a new full version of Photoshop CS6 (superseded today by the new version Photoshop CC which is only available via the Adobe Cloud).

  • Can't open canon raw files in cs4

I recently had to rebuild my pc after a problem that stopped a few of my programs working (I'd installed xampp so I could use wordpress on the pc but it stopped cs4, firefox, video studio and a bunch of other stuff working - removal and reinstalling did no use, I had to build a new disc).
I reinstalled cs4 and got all the updates but now I find I can't open can raw files with cs4 or bridge. I tried replacing the Camera Raw.8bi file with the latest file from adobe as per their web instructions but it still doesn't work. So I tried the adobe dng convertor (version 8.3) and ran the files through that, still no luck, I can't open the files.
I could open them wwith canons own software and save as a tiff, but then I'm losing a lot of information.
I'm still running vista home premium - no I can't upgrade to windows 8.1 and use the latest photoshop and lightroom software because 8.1 doesn't work with my nikon scanner or my epson large format printer. It doesn't like a few other items I have either.
I remember I had to download a few files a couple of years ago when I first bought the pc (a whole 3 years ago) as I was having trouble with photoshop and raw files then but I can't remember the name of the file or where I got it from.
Anyone able to help? much appreciated if you can.

    Hi John,
Adobe told me to replace the relevant file, which I did. The trouble is that went I do this then 'camera raw' disappears from the 'help / plugins' list and there doesn't seem to be any way of getting back other than uninstalling and reinstalling cs4, and once I do this it overwrites the files again...
I can't remember having this trouble when I first installed it a couple of years ago but I do seem to remember having to replace a file somewhere but that may have been on an earlier version.
    I have an old EOS 5d mk1 & a 7d mk1, so it's not as though the camera is unknown to cs4.
    Regards,
    Doug

  • I can not open raw files in cs6 extended ,my camera is Nikon D 800E.

I can not open raw files in cs6 extended ,my camera is Nikon D 800E.
Hope some one can help me.
                                     Robert chen

The D800E is definitely supported in Camera Raw 7.1 which is compatible with CS6.
Which version of Camera Raw are you running?
Win: Help > About Plug-In > Camera Raw
Mac: Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw
If you're already on 7.1, what exactly happens when you try to open Raw files from that camera?

  • Reading Raw files in CS4

I am trying to open Olympus raw files in CS4 and it keeps telling me that it is the wrong type of file. I have downloaded and installed DNG converter and the PS updater and STILL  the program won't open Oly raw files (Tells me it's the wrong kind of file). What DO I DO to make this work? I am anxious to work in raw, but so far have been unable to figure out how!!
    HELP!
    Beth

The DNG converter is a stand-alone program and does't have to "go" anywhere special.
What model of camera do you have?

  • Cannot open Raw files in CS4 [was:Help Please]

I am a newcomer to PS I have taken pics in RAW format with my camera and PS CS4 is not recognising them, can someone please tell me how to set up CS4 so that it will, thank you

Most likely, your older version of CS4 no longer supports converting your newer camera's raw files.  You could check to see if you have the latest version of camera raw for CS4, but I'm doubting that it will handle your camera, which you didn't mention which one it is.  You can also download the current dng converter so that you can convert your raw file to the version of camera raw that CS4 supports.

  • Can't open RAW files in CS4

I  recently bought the 5d mk2 and I cannot open RAW files. Had no problem with my 20D but 5D does not work. Tried to put new plug in into the plugin folder but it says that it is not recognised by windows or there is an error in it. Anyone help?

The only other thing I can think of is that when you installed 5.7 you put the older version in a location where it should not have been.  If you are keeping an older copy it cannot be anywhere in the Adobe folder structure.  It's best to just get rid of it completely.  You can always download another copy if necessary.  I know, this is a dumb question, but are you certain you are using Photoshop CS4?

  • Raw Files in CS4

Cannot open raw files (Nikon NEF)  in CS4, even after loading Camera Raw plug-in.  Get the message "Could not your request because it is not the right kind of document.  Suggestions?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Raw files from the D90 require Camera Raw 5.1 which is definitely compatible with CS4 provided the Camera Raw plug-in has been upgraded.
However, Raw files from the D5100 were first supported in Camera Raw 6.4 which is only compatible with CS5 and later. So you'll never be able to open Raw D5100 files in CS4 since there is no CS4-compatible plug-in which supports that camera model.
You can download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all D5100 Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNGs in CS4

  • Canon 5D Mk II Raw files in CS4?

Ok, I just bought a new macbook pro with snow leopard , whatever and a new version of cs4 it will not recognize RAW fles from my 5d mkii it just shows them(all un supported RAW files) as a  default icon that has two photos on it  on eon top of the other photo and the pic is of a little boy on a beach and next to the photo is a Loupe maybe?/ do I need to add adobe camera raw or what? I was on the phone with apple and they had no idea and of course there is NO adobe customer support anymore so I am screwed, in fact I have been on the phone on hold with adobe customer support for two weeks as I wanted to change from my Microsoft OS cs4 to  apple and  I could not get thru so I actually bought a brand new version of cs 4 so I could work and now I have a NEW Mac and a NEW cs4 for it and STILL cannot work!!!  anyone PLEEEEEEEZE?????

Thank you Mr. Chan. for your assistance. I am not sure what you are attempting to point at though. The program I am using is DNG 5.5 and my Photoshop CS4 is up to date.
    As mentioned above :
" Okay, thanx Got it. Seems it was a 101 question and answer. I was looking to make a selection of Individual RAW files in my folder for my testing the performance of the DNG Converter 5.5. "
I did convert a single file to DNG
I stumbled onto the solution on my own. The source of my problem was my thinking that i would select a file for conversion out a folder of files and not the entire contents of a folder. DNG wants to do everything in a batch and is not set up for individual selection of a file from a folder of files. Once I made a folder and placed one file in that folder the program worked. Logical for batch processes but silly of them not to allow a single file selection from a operators perspective.

  • CR2 (Raw) files in CS4

Hey all, I seem to have ran into some trouble when trying to read .CR2 files with CS4. I've downloaded Camera Raw 5.7 and I've checked the list of compatable devices and it includes my camera (Canon Powershot 12). I'm trying to open through Photoshop itself, not through Bridge. I've also updated through Help->Updates, with no change.
The error message I get is "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
I'm a novice with the software, so if there's any info I've missed off that I should include then just ask.
    Thanks in advance.

As you have noted, there is no Canon PowerShot <anything>12 in the Camera Raw 5.7 list:

The DNG converter may be a better way to go than shooting JPEGs...  With the DNG converter, you convert your raw files to .DNG files, which Photoshop CS4 / Camera Raw 5.7 can open.  You retain all the quality advantages and conversion control of shooting Raw images but with one extra step required.

  • ACR not allowing me to open Raw Files on CS5 Extended Disc version.

Bought a new 21" Mac desktop 10.9.5 OS and Installed the Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended CD successfully. But when I tried to open my Raw files I get the message below.
    What can I do?
"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information"
Had no problem with this on my previous laptop.
    Thanks, Grace.

    Thanks Ssprengel,
    Works now!
Wish I had that list of cameras and software compatibility you sent me link of earlier. Originally did the updates to Photoshop straight after installation and downloaded the update for ACR which was what was giving me all the problems. It didn't seem to have any compatibility with my camera. Funny...you would think when you click the update software on Mac it would be automatically compatible with current version. Real nuisance that Adobe has stopped providing support for older versions. Just wasted a heap of download on "update all" only to find out the message after it was all downloaded that there was an error with installation and to click on the "support link" only to discover that when you do click on it...you find out there is no more updates or support. Great customer service....after spending over a $1000 on software.
    Kind regards, Grace.

  • How can I open 100D RAW files in CS4, I have tried everything.

Hi guys, can someone please help me.  I am trying to open 100D RAW files in PS CS4.  I have tried so many things including downloading the plug in and even DNG converting but would rather be able to open RAW files direct and not have to convert everything to DNG anyway as it is time wasting.  Can someone please help!  Thanks, Jen.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The 100D is supported from ACR 7.4, which was released shortly after the camera came on market. ACR 7.x requires Photoshop CS6 to run, and won't work in the by now very old Photoshop CS4.
So your only option is to convert to DNG and open those in ACR 5.x / PS CS4. (or upgrade, of course, but I take it you don't want that).
    EDIT: assuming Canon 100D.
