RAW files in iCloud

I set up Photos and iCloud library on my laptop. I imported my Aperture library. Although most of my files are RAW, they are appearing as JPG, even though I have preferences set to download originals.
Any thoughts on what is wrong?

Does Apple seriously think that semipro and pro photographers are going to rely on storage in the iCloud for RAW files?
I doubt it. It makes no sense on a whole lot of ways and - as I've said on the threads - there is no reason to assume that using the cloud will be a requirement.

You can convert them to be used in iCloud.

If you don't change the settings you have now, I'm sure it will stay working. I believe Apple is phasing out MobileMe and you'd be forced to upgrade eventually.
5. Will Icloud allow me to transfer my Icalendar across seamlessly? This is Ical 4.04 whic came with my Imac. Does this get upgraded if I update to Lion?
Yes, it will get upgraded. I have my calendar on Lion and my iPhone 5.0.1 working seamlessly at the moment. That doesn't mean you won't have problems because with new technology that can be expected. Make sure you do a back up if you're worried about losing data.

Raw files uploaded to photo stream not showing on devices

I have Aperture set to automatically upload all the photos I import from my Canon 50D. In the past month the photos in RAW format, have not been showing up in my photo stream. When I look in ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub I can see all the CR2 files and I can see Aperture uploading in the activity window, but nothing is showing elsewhere. The only exception is my iPad that has some from two weeks ago, but the none of the raw files from yesterday are appearing on any device or iCloud.com. I can see jpg taken via iOS but not RAWs.
Any ideas? Has the OS X 10.10.1 or iOS 8.1.1 changed something, is there a new check box. Just slightly (very confused)

Justin,
can it be, that you activated iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on your iOS 8 devices? That essentially disables all easy ways to upload photos from your Mac to iOS devices. My Photo stream will stream from iOS devices to other devices and your Mac, but the Mac will no longer stream to the other devices. and iTunes Photo sync will no longer sync photos to the iOS devices. If you enabled iCloud Photo Library (Beta), either disable it again in "Settings > Photos"on your iPhone/iPad, or use the page https://beta.icloud.com and and the Photos.app on that page to upload your photos from the Mac to your mobile devices.

IPhoto 9.6 hangs when importing raw files.

since upgrading to Yosemite and upgrading iPhoto my macbook pro hangs every time I try to import photos from an SD card. I can import one or two but if I try to import new photos ~300 photos then the kernel task memory usage shoots up to use 95% or more of memory and then it starts running extremely slow and the memory pressure jumps between yellow and red. If I kill iPhoto the kernel task doesn't release the memory.
I have tried uninstalling iPhoto and and restoring and rebuilding the iPhoto library but to no avail at this point.
Anybody have any other ideas or know if there is a bug with iPhoto 9.6 processing raw files?

Is it possible to upload Raw files from SD to a cloud using Ipad? Any solution without jailbreak?

RAW file import to Photos; OS X 10.10.3

How to import the RAW files into Photos?
Panasonic DMC-LX3. I shoot both RAW and JPG images. iPhoto would import both images for each picture, Photos just imports the JPG. I am NOT using the iCloud photo library. The picture in Photos has a small shadowed box in left bottom corner with a J in it - almost like there is a hidden file, no idea what the J means, can find no reference in help files or online.
I've tried importing direct from the memory card in iMac slot and with camera plugged into USB - no difference. Photos did pull over all the RAW files from the iPhoto library on first startup.

Maybe the issue is that I could select Adobe Photoshop Elements as the photo editor in iPhoto preferences . Photos does not have this external editor feature.Help!

My camera's JPEG processing is almost always better than the default JPEGs created by either Aperture or Photos for OS X.

Not to mention the time needed to create them in the applications, which slows down the import process quite a bit.
Well that doesn't make sense, as they are created anyway, and if you use in camera editing on the jpeg you actually be generating two sets of previews on import.
If the shot doesn't need work I'd like to throw the RAW away and not pay for the storage it uses up (locally and in the cloud).
This is easy:
File -> New Smart Album
Photo -> is -> Raw
Find them, and then you can delete the ones you don't want.

Raw files distorted

Some of my RAW files that import in iPhoto are distorted until I click the edit button and it fixes the problem, but when I try to share them to iCloud it shares the distorted picture. How do I fix this?

How are you sharing to iCloud? My Photo Stream or a Shared Stream? And where are you viewing the stream? On a mobile device ( iPad, iPhone) or a Mac?
The iOS devices cannot develop the RAW. They use the embedded preview JPEGs in the RAW files. From the description of your problem it looks like the embedded JPEGs in your RAW files are distorted. When you edit the photo, iPhoto will create a new preview, and that is o.k., bur it will not replace the embedded JPEG preview in your RAW files.
To make sure, you are uploading the edited versions to your Photo Stream, disable "Automatic Upload" to the photo stream., because automatic upload will share the photos before you get any chance to edit them. Share the photos manually, using the "Share" menu.

I am unable to open raw files taken on my Canon Rebel T1i in my version of Photoshop CS3. When I import raw files into Bridge they come up as patches with CR2 on them and when clicked on, a notice comes up stating that Photoshop does not recognize these files. I tried to update my Adobe Camera Raw by downloading version 4.6 from the Adobe Website, but when I clicked on the plus-in, I got another message that Photoshop does not recognize this file. I spoke with a representative from Canon who said that I could not update CS3 and that I should subscribe to the Cloud. I would prefer to use my CS3, if possible. Can anyone advise me what to do?

How can I process a linearly converted raw file while preserving color?

I want to convert my raw files in a linear format (to preserve all the dynamic range and detail and prevent unnecessary clipping). My question is "how can I modify the brightness or luminance while preserving the hue and saturation of every color?"
As for applying the gamma curve, I guess the best and only way in Photoshop is to create a Levels adjustment and place a 2.2 in the middle (gray) input box. However, I read in http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/hybrid-conversion.shtml that a 4.75 value should be used... Why? Is the number placed there not correspond to the gamma being applied?

First of all, you should have used the Adobe DNG Converter 8.6, not an old, obsolete version. Always use the very latest version. 8.3 was simply the first ACR version to support your camera model, that's all.
Note that the DNG Converter works only on folders, not on individual raw files. Put all your Sony raw files in a folder and run the Converter on that folder containing the raw files.
I have absolutely no clue as to what on Earth you mean by : "upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5".
You also need to make sure that CS5 is fully updated. You cannot rely on the highly and notoriously unreliable Adobe auto updater to tell whether you have the latest update installed or not.
I still have no idea what platform you are on, Mac or Windows. Please read the following for next time:

Is there a way to edit raw files from the Canon 5DMkIII in Lightroom 2?

I rented a Canon 5DMkIII this past weekend and shot in RAW. I'm running Lightroom 2.7 on my laptop because I have a pre-Intel dual-G5 tower at home and can't run LR3 or LR4 on a pre-Intel chip machine and I tend to share my libraries across my laptop to my tower and back (so I need to be able to open the LR files on both machines, which is why I'm still using LR2 ... I know, I know, I need to upgrade but that's going to be a hefty investment!)... In the meantime, I'm wondering if there's a way to view/edit the raw files in Lightroom? They won't even import (I get the message upon import attempt: "Some import operations were not performed. (97)")... I know the information is there, though, because I used PhotoMechanic to do the initial sort of my images that I wanted to keep/edit. I see there's ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 6.7 (I think it is) that supports the 5DMkIII, but I'd prefer to edit across the board in Lightroom, it's so much faster. Is there something I can download to still edit my raw files in LR2? Or, do I have to buy the update and get LR4 if I want to edit my 5DMkIII RAW files? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Support for the canon 5d Mk111 was introduced in LR 4, ACR 6.7 so you will have to use the Adobe DNG Converter 6.7 or later to convert the raw files to dng format before you can import and work with the files in LR 2. The converter is a free download from Adobe and is available at this link.

How do I get iTunes on a new computer to recognize and use my files on the local drive? My music files on iCloud have been recognized.

My old computer failed. All files, including iTunes were backed up on a separate drive. All files have been loaded on the new computer. iTunes was reloaded, and recognizes all files on iCloud, but does not link to the files on the computer. How can I re-establish that linkage?

I am not sure on how you reset up your iTunes library on your new computer. If you copied the music by dragging on top of iTunes, then the media would have been put into the proper location. If you have the media copied to your computer and have not established in iTunes where it sits, then you will need to do that within the preferences in iTunes. How to open Raw files from Canon 1100D and 650D in CS5?

I need assistance please. I have a Canon 1100D and 650D. On Photoshop CS5 it does not recognise the 2 Cameras Raw files. What is my course of action. Help will be highly appreciated

evjems, As per the below article, Canon EOS 1100D needs minimum Adobe Camera Raw(ACR) version 6.4 and Canon EOS 650D needs minimum ACR version 7.1

So, you should be able to open raw files of 1100D, if you upgrade your PS ( Help > Updates), but not of 650D as it needs PS CS6 and above.

CAN NOT OPEN CANON EOS20D RAW FILE IN PHOTOSHOP CS2

I had Photoshop CS2 installed on my PC some years ago and could open my raw files from my canon eos 20d. I changed the hard drives in my pc to solid state drives and had to reinstall photoshop cs2. I could not activate photoshop as it was too old a version so I had to download from adobe website with their activation code. Now, I can not open any of my canon eos 20d files. I have taken some now photos just a few days ago and the problem still arises. I get the message that it does not recognise this type of file. Any ideas?
