RAW files not importing correctly into iPhoto

I'm having problems importing .CR2 files into iPhoto. This didn't used to happen with Tiger, so I'm trying to figure out what the issue is. I'm using iPhoto 7.1.1 (354) with Leopard 10.5.1. I previously had 10.4.8.
I'm wondering if it's an issue with networking. Currently, my iPhoto Library is on a NAS because it's big (about 86GB) and I have RAID redundancy on the NAS. The original files are fine, but the imported files (not just the thumbnails) are corrupted. If there's a problem with data transmission, would that show as a data corruption?

Michael
I don't have a NAS myself and my ignorance of it and networking one is pretty much total. However, this thread
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1100543&tstart=0
records a discovery by one user using a similar system. It has to do with iPhoto using ':' for temp files and folders, and Samba having a problem with the character.
Hope that helps.

  • Monochromatic Canon RAW pictures not imported correctly in iPhoto?

The Canon cameras have a setting to create only a RAW format of a picture (no jpg is created). I'm able to import the picture into iPhoto but the original custom settings are lost. For example, I took pictures on the programmed mode on monochromatic but the pictures are imported chromatic so the B&W effect is lost. The thumbnails in Finder do show the B&W picture for the RAW files.
How do import these RAW files so the iPhoto creates a jpg with the original settings (monochromatic) ?

There's no such thing as a monochromatic Raw. A Raw is a sensor dump from the camera. Your camera has an RGB sensor and shoots everything in colour.
What the mono setting does on your camera affects only jpegs. What you're seeing in the Finder is the Jpeg preview built-in to the Raw as an icon.
So, put simply, if you want to shoot B&W, shoot jpeg.

  • Cant import raw files from sony rx1003 into iPhoto

Cant import raw files from sony rx1003 into iPhoto.  with rx1002 no problem! any suggestions?

Every model of a manufacture's camera have a different  RAW format and, therefore, you'll have to wait until Apple receives the necessary information from Sony so they can create a RAW Compatibility Updater that includes that model.
In the meantime you can try the Adobe RAW converter with might support that camera model to create a dmg file that iPhoto will recognize and begging shooting the highest resolution jpegs until the updater is released.

  • I seem to have lost Sony AVCHD files while importing them into iPhoto. The 50p files were not visible in the Import screen. iPhoto 9.6.1.

    System: Yosemite 10.10.2
    Iphoto: 9.6.1
iPhoto 9.6.1 does not seem to recognize 50p AVCHD files from my Sony WS350x camera, so they are not imported, but are deleted from camera when the question is asked in the importscreen !!!
Why is that ? I am not happy....
Workaround: Should I import the media files with Sony's Playmemories sw first ?
    Herman

The problem with AVCHD is that there are a wealth of codecs and very little standardisation further, these aren't files, but clusters of interlinked files that make up the data stream.
    So read this
Using AVCHD video with iPhoto '11 - Apple Support
Bear in mind that not all Codecs are supported.
As an FYI: A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

  • Photos not importing correctly to iPhoto library

I just realized that any photos I have been importing to the iPhoto library from somewhere on my hard drive rather than from an external device/camera have NOT actually been imported into the library, rather are still linked to the original file. This means that iPhoto can't always find the correct pathway to the correct file -- and it has backfired on me big time in that I ordered a $50 book and one of the images was wrong. Right thumbnail, but wrong actual photo, because the link had been lost. Beyond the aggravation that my book is now messed up and I apparently can't do anything about it since it's been more than 90 minutes, I want to fix this so that my iPhoto library is accurate and it doesn't happen again. I have been going to File - Import to Library, but it doesn't. It just links to the original file, which then can't be found once I reopen the program after quitting. Any advice? This only started happening since upgrading to '09, by the way.

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.

  • RAW files not importing

    Hi
I have lots of RAW images taken with a Canon G2 which iPhoto 6 doesn't import for me when I drag the files over. The camera is on the famous list of supported cameras (http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html). Why might these files fail to import?
    Thanks

This is not a case of iPhoto stopping importing. It has failed to recognise my G2 RAWs from the start. As RAWs from my other cameras are OK in iPhoto it seems I am not doing anything wrong with RAW files generally. OSX and Preview both read my G2 RAWs, so there is nothing wrong with the files. But, iPhoto does not read them and – whatever the list of supported cameras claims – my G2 RAWs are clearly not supported by iPhoto.
I have searched the forums thoroughly without a sniff of a solution. That leaves me looking elsewhere than iPhoto for a program to make a complete catalogue of my images.
    Unless someone has a fix...

  • Lightroom 3 Raw Files not Importing

I have a Nikon d3200 and I am using Lightroom 3. My raw files are not importing. Do I need some sort of plugin? Im not sure where to find the plugin on Adobes site...ugh!!! #frustrated

You would need the FREE Adobe DNG Converter (version 7.1 or later) to convert your D3200 raw photos to DNG.  The DNGs will import into Lightroom.

  • "Unreadable files" when importing photos into iPhoto

OK, I just recently got a new iMac - my first time using iPhoto. All seemed well for a while... until I started to import my photos into iPhoto from my HD (which I had copied over from my old G3).
The problem was that as I was importing some of the photos I got an error message saying the following:
    "Unreadable files: 7
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognizable file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
Now I really don't understand why it's saying this, as the 7 files it is referring to are just normal jpegs straight my from digi-cam. They are just like all the hundreds of other photos that were successfully imported.
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Abstractman23:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Were the photos you were trying to import located within an old iPhoto library folder/package? When you got the message did iPHoto display the file names of the files it couldn't import? What were they?
If you were trying to import a library folder then the unrecognized files would be the database files that are part of the library structure.
If you are trying to move your old library from the G3 to the new Mac, just copy the iPhoto LIbrary folder/package intact to the Picture folder of the new Mac. Move any other library out beforehand. Download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Now launch iPhoto and it will open the library and, in an older version, update it to iPhoto 7.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • FW HTML not importing correctly into DW

    Hello,
I have made a navbar in FW and exported it following some tutorials I've watched.  I have imported it into some of the pages on my site in DW and the import works fine.  However, on a number of other pages, I insert my cursor in the "topnav" div and when I import it, the table goes straight to the top of the code and when I refresh the CSS, all my styles from before disappear and becomes a blank white page.  I think it may have something to do with my stylesheet because the other pages that it does work properly on is a different stylesheet, but I cannot figure out where the issue is.
I have attached code below.  The first section is what it looks like when I try to import the navbar into the topnav div.  The second section is the code for the stylesheet that goes along with it.  And third, is the CSS code for the one that works correctly.
I appreciate any help given.  Thanks!

With this problem, it would be better to give us a link to an online web page. It's easier to spot the problem than to wade through a lot of code and you would have better success in getting others in the forum to help.
One problem that sticks out is that you imported the code generated by FW into the head section of your document. It should be in the body section. That problem should be obvious to you if you know a little about markup and can recognize javascript. I mention this because if you don't know what you're doing, then importing FW images and code into DW can be very confusing. It might be easier for you to work on the Dreamweaver side and find a good tutorial about building a menu in DW. Most web designers will tell you that it's not a good idea to use code generated by Fireworks although it can work.
Let me make two points. First, if some of your pages are working okay (you said the import worked for some pages), then use a page that is working to override a page that is not working by doing a Save As and then do a little editing if necessary.
Second, if your styles are not working in your page, you probably have a link problem. In the markup you provided, I don't see a link to your css stylesheet on your web page. But, again, if you do a Save As using a page that works, this problem should be solved by acting on the advice of the first point.

  • Layered PSD files not importing correctly

    Hey all,
I'm working on an animation, and I'm trying to animate some text layed out in a specific way in a .psd document. I export the psd to the desktop with the layers box checked, and I keep "maximize compatibility" on. When I quick-look the file or re-open it, it appears correctly. However, when I import it into FCPX (v. 10.0.6) all of the text, which is black, shows up as just a black image. When I drag the file into the timeline the layers separate as they should and have the correct titles, but they appear black. In the original document it was black text on a transparent background. I never had this problem in FCP7, it's new to FCPX. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

Is the PSD 8-bit RGB? Was it made on a Mac or PC? Are each of the layers rasterized or in bitmapped form?

  • Ai files not importing correctly

I made a type file (with a stroke) and a 3.4 rule line in Indesign, imported it into ai and created outlines. When I reimported into indesign (as ai file) it showed up fine on screen but when I printed the line was missing, and the stroked type had lost it's middle in most but not all of the letters and was printing transparent with a stroke. I replaced the line with a box and it still didn't show up. It looked this way in the PDF too. I'm using white type.
I'm having this problem with other white ai files. How can I fix and why aren't they compatible?Running CS3 on 10.4.11

The white is set to overprint. Go back to Illustrator and fix it there.

  • High ISO RAW files not importing properly since upgrading to Yosemite

Since updating to Yosemite I am having a problem with trying to use RAW files shot at ISOs higher then 800. I am simply getting a black rectangle with a message about "unsupported file format". I am able to import the images using the Canon software, then convert them to JPEGs.

Hey Ronin, thanks for your reply! The audio codec is Linear PCM.
The audio codec options I have, from redcine-x, are:
    Linear PCM
    AAC
    Apple AES3 Audio
    Apple Lossless
    MPEG-4 AAC Enhanced Low Delay
MPEG-4 AAC Enhanced Low Delay with SBR
    MPEG-4 AAC Low Delay
    MPEG-4 HE AAC
    MPEG-4 HE AAC V2
Would one of them be better?

  • Quicklook not importing pics into iPhoto

My Mum has a Mac Mini which is running Leopard quite happily (albeit slowly..). When she receives an email containing photos, she can open quicklook and click on the 'import to iPhoto' icon which then gets greyed out and the 'tick' icon appears to show that it's downloaded into iPhoto.
If iPhoto wasn't open it opens automatically. The problem is that the photo she selected doesn't appear in iPhoto. If I do a spotlight search for the pic it finds it in the home/library/mail downloads directory. Is this the right place for it to go?..

    Bump
Anyone got any thoughts?.. Is it something to do with where the iPhoto data should be stored?..

  • Places not imported correctly from iPhoto into Aperture 3

    Hello,
I'm a first time mac user and have recently installed Aperture 3. I already had an iPhoto library setup with all my events metadata filled out, including faces, places and event descriptions.
Upon importing my iPhoto library into Aperture 3, the faces were copied over, but none of the places or event descriptions were imported.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour? Is there a way to pull this across after the import, or should I just delete the aperture library and try again. Ideally, I'd like to avoid having to manually add all this information again!
Thanks in advance for your help.

A photo that was rotated in iPhoto will also show up as iPhoto edited.
This is not what I found to be the case in a recent experiment using iPhoto11- I did repeat it to be sure.

Quickly, what I found is that only the ones I did actual adjustments on brought over two images.  Images that were simply rotated, had "quick fixes" or "Effects" did not bring in two images.  More importantly, among the ones with adjustments that did bring in two images, the ones with the keyword  "iPhoto Edited" appear to be nothing more than iPhoto's 6MB JPEG Previews.  The master was a 25MB RAW image.
I don't know why some users are experiencing doubles on everything, but I recommend caution in deciding which ones to remove or you may find yourself deleting masters and keeping previews.

  • PSD files not importing properly into AFX CS5?

I'm having a bit of trouble with After Effects CS5 and Photoshop CS5 .psd files.
Basically I've got a few images that I want to import into AFX as .psd files but when ever I do, all the images show the exact same image, yet when I open them in Photoshop CS5 the image that I made is there so I know I haven't saved over my files.
This occurs wether importing as multiple files or singular. I click the Photoshop sequence option as well as clicking the composition - keep all layer styles.
What am I doing wrong and why aren't my images showing up as individual images but rather all of them being the same one image regardless of what I've imported?
Do I have to import as footage rather than composition?
Thank you and hope that made sense, if not, please ask me to explain as I need to fix this quite fast.
    Thank you.

    Thank you for that.
I've just been importing them as footage and that seems to be working fine as well.
I shall try without the Photoshop Seqeunce ticked.
