RAW files offline, wrong volume? all others ok... ???!!!

I created a new library and imported my old projects/libraries; then relocated them to external locations. All works fine except:
I keep on having lots of raw files that are disconnected. The locations points to my "volume name + number 1". Manual referencing doesn't work. Reimporting the original raw files also doesn't work.
What's the problem and how to solve this?

I'm having a similar problem with referenced file - A3.1 is giving me lots of headaches. I've tried manually to reconnect referenced files, and then I've repaired-rebuilt library-rebooted numerous times. After rebuilding the library, the little red icon goes away, but I'm still unable to export a version from that file. Anybody got any ideas?
I just gotta get this off my chest - my switch from A2 to A3 was filled with a lot of frustration. I spent in excess of 30 hours researching, attempting to fix, going to Genius Bar. (I finally found my answers here - not via the folks who get an Apple paycheck...) Finally an update came out and I was running smoothly again. Now this - I'm really losing faith and patience with Apple's release process and thier sloppy support of this product.

  • Please tell me what I need to get Lightroom 4 to read my Nikon 810 raw files.  Have downloaded all versions from 8.6 to 9.  Photoshop 6 has no problems reading these files

Can anyone tell me how to get Lightroom 4 to read my Nikon 810 raw files Have downloaded 8.6, 8,7, 8.8, and 9 raw converter files and none will work.

You haven't seen the raw image data until you look at the DNG files in Lightroom. The DNG file contains precisely the same raw data that was in the NEF file. The image that you see on your camera is the JPEG preview that is built into the NEF file. And the JPEG preview is affected by all of the in camera settings. And those settings COULD include Active D-lighting, sharpening, style settings, Expeed processing, etc. And none of those settings are going to be picked up by Lightroom.
It's natural and expected that the raw image data won't appear to be as good as what you saw on the camera display. But you can make adjustments to get the images looking even better than what the camera displayed. And that is what shooting raw is all about. If you read in your manual it will indicate that shooting raw produces an image that must be processed. And that is what you do in Lightroom. If you find a set of adjustments that you make consistently to all of your images you can make those adjustments on a newly imported image and then save new camera defaults. Then those settings will be applied to all images that are imported from that point onward. And will be applied to any already imported images when you click on the reset button in the develop module.

  • When I open several Raw files and edit one, the others disappear

Sometimes I open numerous raw files simultaneously and they appear on the left in a sidebar. Then I choose one to edit and when finished the others have disappeared and I have to load them again. Is there a keystroke that will bring them back without entirely reloading? Are they still in PSE but hidden? This seems like peculiar and poor design. (Mac version)

Using Preview is quite simple. I open the group of files I want to view and edit. I select one and drag it on top of the PSE icon in the dock, and it opens in the PSE raw editor. When I've saved the file I simply click on the Preview dock icon to return to that app. and repeat the select-and-drag to PSE. Preview provides a full screen display of file icons for the files I want to edit, so it is quite quick and transparent.
I don't necessarily want to Open a file; I might simply Save it from the raw editor. If I have 10 raw files, five of which I want to edit and Open, 3 of which I don't want to edit, and 2 of which I want to Save within the raw editor, the simplicity you describe disappears. Using my Preview-to-PSE scheme, I work on one file at a time and dispose of it when done. I don't have to keep track of which file needs what disposition, as seems to be the case in the process you describe. Please correct me where I'm mistaken.

  • Using FF 3.6.13, it cannot open an Adope PDF ( says file not found) while all other browsers work!!!!

I have updated FF and Adobe Reader and its plugin to the latest levels.
This error happens on several PC's of friends as well so it is a serious issue. Chrome, IE and others have no problems at all when executing the same thing on the same PC.

The above instruction set for opening PDFs within Firefox DID in fact work.
    Thanks!
It does open it in a separate window from FF but at least it works. ( yes, I tried the options to stop that no luck)

  • IPhoto: title of book doesn't show in the layout preview although a picture and headline was created. What do I do wrong? All other photos show in the preview normally?

Created a 70 page photo book and now the title including subtitle doesn't show, but seem to be there, because the photo is ticked to be the title. Now I am scared to get a beautiful grey title instead of the table mountain in SA: Do I need to be worried?

    Try the following::
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later -run  Option #4 to rebuild the database

  • Dates wrong in RAW files imported from Canon Rebel

I recently imported a large number of pictures from my Canon Rebel via my iPod into iPhoto 6.02. There were a mix of JPEG and RAW files, the dates & times for the JPEGs were fine, the RAW files were wrong, some back at Dec 31 1970, others were 21 hours earlier than the JPEG files.
The date and time on the camera were correct and still are.
The same photos look OK in Adobe Elements 4.0, though I can see the same bad dates in part of the EXIF data reported by Adobe. Adobe shows me several versions of dates though and others are correct.
Anyone seen this, know what's wrong?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

  • Can I include raw files into the installer folder with LV application builder?

    Hello,
I have created a batch file that will run at the end of the installer, which will copy over some raw configuration files into the source destination so that the configuration files can be customized for each end user without rebuilding the installer with application builder. I also have an autorun.inf so the installer will automatically run when the user installs the CD.
However I would like to have some default configuration files and an autorun.inf file that will be automatically added to the installer "volume" folder using the application builder.
However I don't see a way to include raw files in the "volume" folder. It appears all source files in the application builder are embedded into the binary files.
Please let me know if this is possible with the current application builder.

  • Help with RAW files and custom white balance.

ive long had this issue with RAW shooting and adobe photoshop and lightroom, my main subject is a saltwater reef aquarium that is lit by artificial lighting, i shoot canon and use the custom white balance setting to get everything looking proper and it works good.. to an extent.. if i shoot jpg the photos all turn out as shot, if i shoot RAW the white balance in adobe programs is totally messed up and you cant fix it.. if i use DPP by canon, its perfect and looks just as shot or just a a jpg would look.. my question is how can i get adobe lilightroom to render my RAW files correctly.
below are all 3 images, first one was converted and exported to jpg in canon DPP without any adjustments and is what the photo should look like, second has been exported from photoshop, and 3rd i added a link to the actual RAW file. why cant my lightroom interpret these properly?
heres a link to the actual RAW file
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/5a39ctllwgrem7a/_MG_8971.CR2
this was a raw converted in canon dpp, and its what the aquarium looks like, and is what the photo should look like. just to note, any other editing or viewing program besides adobe products all render the image correctly.
this is what photoshop and lightroom do to my Raw files, theres no way to adjust anything to get even remotely close to correct..

The white-balance Temperature of this image as computed by the camera is way beyond the 50,000K upper limit as you can see when you open the file in LR or ACR, so Adobe cannot reach the As Shot WB temperature number and stops at 50,000K which is still too blue -- although EXIFtool says:  Color Temp As Shot : 10900, so maybe Adobe's wildly high 50,000K number is based on a faulty camera profile that exaggerates blues:
However, using the Camera Standard makes things not nearly so garish blue, and it is possible to use Photoshop to neutralize things even more:
However, as you say, other raw converters do ok with this image despite the high WB temperature, so I think the Canon T3/1100D profile needs some work, but probably won't get it since it is not a high-end camera.
For example, here is the default conversion from LibRaw that is part of RawDigger, and in my opinion is an improvement on the camera rendering though perhaps lacks a bit of saturation:
As another example, here is RawTherapee's conversion, after I neutralized the auto-tone and color values it applies by default, and appears to be a bit too saturated but that could be easily adjusted:
I would agree that Adobe is doing something wrong with this camera in this lighting.  A clue is the bright green color of the top-central coral which seems to be yellow in the non-Adobe renderings.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 - unable to view RAW files

    Hi.
I have been using Adobe Elements 8 since it came on to the market. I use Canon Cameras and my latest one being a 1Dmkiv.
When I got the Canon 1D I down loaded the appropriate RAW file I think it was 5.6 and followed the instructions and changed the Camera Raw.8bi file and it worked perfect and I was able to view and edit Raw files.
Last week my computer failed and I have had a new hard drive and hence have had to upload all my software. I installed Elements 8 back onto the computer and reinstalled the photograph catalogues I had backed up within Elements 8 before the computer crash.
When the photographs in the catalogues were viewed only JPEG files were visible, the raw files are shown as a a grey negative with a zig zag across them. I thought that I would have to upload again the lates RAW update, which I did and went through all the instructions as given by Adobe. I changed the Raw.8bi file within Elements 8 and I still am unable to view any Raw files within Elements 8. I desperately need access to these files. Any help would be appreciated
    Best regards

Thanks so much for your reply. My problem appeared to be that most of the thumb
nails had lost their links and I had to individually update the thumbnails from within the program. It wasn't a problem
with the RAW file not being updated.

  • Unable to open RAW files with Photoshop CS6 - Camera Raw

    Hi all,
I'm trying to open .CR2 files from a Canon 450D on Photoshop CS6 as well as with Lightroom 4 but it doesn't work.
I've updated the Adobe Camera Raw to its latest edition (8.8), but anyway, when I try to open them it appears the message below: It basically says that photoshop is not able to open the file, make sure that you have installed the latest edition of Camera Raw and to visit the link for further info...
After looking for solutions on Internet, I've also tried to convert the RAW files into DNG, but Adobe DNG converter says that the folder does not contain any RAW file, though they are all .CR2 files...
I've tried several times in many ways... Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Benjamin,
You were right. It was the camera's provided software transfer system. I've copied them directly from the (same) card to the desktop and works.
    Many many thanks! Cheers

  • Ability to process several raw files with the same content but with different exposure into the single picture

Can you add to the Lightroom an ability to process several raw files with the same content but with different exposure into the single picture?
Base raw files can be given with exposure bracketing during shooting, for example.
The goal - to get maximum details in darks and lights (if we use the "ligths recovery" or "fill lights" we lose the quality because raw file just have no all required information).
The similar (but not the same, only the idea) thing - is High Dynamic Range Photography in Adobe Photoshop
    Thank you

The plugin LR/Enfuse does this already. And of course Photomatix have a plugin available for Lightroom. This essentially amounts to pixel editing, which is beyond the range of Lightroom's metadata editing.

  • Raw Files Appear Deleted or Corrupted Suddenly in Aperture with Unsupported Image Format Error

I have been using Aperture 3, latest update, for the past year. Today, I tried to import new raw files from my new Sony RX1r and, as far as I can see, all raw files in Aperture give the "Unsupported Image Format" and alert symbol in the library where not only new files should be, but also ALL PREVIOUS RAW FILES. These files do no even show up as existing in the iPhoto Library.
This is, needless to say, distressing, as hundreds and hundreds of photos seem lost. Also, the files show a reduced pixel size and file sizes all go to .5 Mb. Some of the photos seemed to show up initially and look fine until I tried to open them, then they all either disappear or show the Unsupported Image Format instead of the opened file. I have tried rebuilding the iPhoto library, but no help.
I have looked in these discussions and see similar problems with Aperture. Perhaps, Apple has not made an update for the RX1r from the RX1 for raw files, but why should all older raw files now be corrupted, especially those recently made with my Olympus OM-D? Had no problem with Aperture until this disaster.
    Please help.
    William

Just an update. Restarted computer and attempted rebuilds of iPhoto library a couple more times and finally files and photos mostly recovered, except for those I had tried to open. Aperture seems to have a problem, or a host of them, dealing with RAW files, and there is no update yet for the Sony RX1R for Aperture or iPhoto. Lightroom 5, on the other hand, seems to work great with these files directly, so that will be where all photos go for now. Will iPhoto and Aperture just become old archives? It is so infuriating that Apple does not allow for simple importing and exporting compatibility with such an excellent program as Lightroom 5 just to protect their somewhat poorly supported Aperture. I've been a staunch Apple supporter and user since the 80's, but having more doubts about the direction this company is taking.

  • .xmp files showing up in my SD card when accessing RAW files in Finder... Very weird!

    Hi,
I'm having a very weird problem...  I'm using a 4GB Scandisk SD card and am shooting my RAW photos on a Canon Rebel 2ti.  I'm using a Macbook Pro, 2011 2.3Ghz i5, 4gb of Ram, with Lion v. 10.7.2 and am accessing the SD card RAW files through Finder.  I'm secondary clicking on the image file or double clicking them as PS is my default opening program for RAW files.  When I hit the "Done" key on any of the Photoshop files, a new .xmp file shows up in Finder.  When I open it, it's a Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8 License Agreement...
I do have Microsoft Office 11 installed and have never used Messenger.  It's not a huge deal, but it's driving me crazy and it's totally weird!
    Thanks,
    -Dave

It's a lot of separate, unrelated things happening to you in one long chain, but each step is normal and explainable.
You are opening raw files straight from a card into Photoshop. Photoshop will open them in Camera Raw. Camera Raw's preferences are set to save changes in XMP sidecar files. You are clicking Done, which applies the default Camera Raw processing, and that change generates an XMP file to store these new settings. That's why an XMP file is showing up in the same folder. On a computer, that's fine. But writing back out to a camera card with a device other than the camera is not recommended. What is recommended is to use another, faster way to preview raw files on a card without changing them (Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, Apple Aperture, Photo Mechanic, etc.), so that the card's left untouched as it should be.
If you don't want the XMP file to be generated, you have to do just one of the following:
In Camera Raw preferences, change the "Save image settings in" option to "Camera Raw database", not "Sidecar XMP files".
Instead of clicking Done every time, which applies any changes, click Cancel instead, if you were just looking and not editing.
Use something other than Photoshop to preview raw files. Most of the other ways are faster than opening them in Photoshop. The recommended workflow is to use a camera downloading utility to look through all the images on the card at once (instead of one by one as you are doing), and then select only the ones you want to bring into your computer. Bridge (via File > Get Photos from Camera, not by browsing), Lightroom, Aperture, and iPhoto all have that capability.
As to why double-clicking an XMP file opens a Messenger license agreement: As you probably know, the system has to figure out what program should open a file with a given filename extension. It sounds like maybe both Adobe and Microsoft have used the XMP extension, and the Office installer probably associated it with some type of MS Messenger file. So when you double-click an XMP file, Mac OS X opens Messenger. Since you have not used Messenger before, it's showing you the "first run" screen for Messenger, and Microsoft has set it up so that you have to click Agree on the license agreement before using it. If you never click Agree, it will still be the "first run" next time you open Messenger, whether you meant to or not. You can use Get Info in the Mac Finder to reassign XMP to open in another program.
You probably didn't expect so many things to happen from just opening a raw file off a card, but that's the way it worked out.

  • Problem with NIKON D600 RAW files

I have had a new NIKON D600 for 6 months. The RAW files have worked well all this time. However, I recently took the camera in for repair. Upon its return the Adobe Essentials 11 catalague and editor no longer recognizes the RAW files created by the camera. However, those files are still recognized by the Nikon software ViewNX2. Since I use the Adobe program all the time for manipulating the files I need RAW access.
I called Nikon and they told me it must be an Adobe software problem. But the Adobe software recognized the files up the time of the camera repair.
What can I do about this?

    Hi,
How do you get the images from the card to the PSE catalog?
There are known problems when using older version of the Nikon software to download the images. Have you tried updating the Nikon software?
The D600 needs ACR 7.3. You haven't recently re-installed PSE 11 and not done the updates have you?
What version of camera raw is installed (Editor -> Help -> About Plug-in -> Camera Raw)?
Can you still open the older D600 images that you took before the camera was repaired?
What operating system are you using?

  • Raw Files Dissappearing in Lighroom 1.1

    Hi,
I just downloaded a 4 gb shoot from my CF card to the Mac Hard drive. Then I imported it into Lightroom. I was about halfway through checking out the images, had processed some into JPEG, some into PSD and some into TIF (all ok) while I suddenly noticed an icon on the top corner of every image which when clicked revealed the fact that LR could not locate the original RAW file. This has all happened in the space of an hour. I know I did not delete the 'entire' shoot, and neither is it in Trash which has not been emptied for a week. But all the RAW files are gone! have searched the entire machine but absolutely no sign of it! Ideas, anyone? This is highly unnerving!
    Please help!

If you exported several file types, you probably made several trips to the Finder, and so it seems worthwhile doing a Finder search on your .CR2 files, sort by date. I have found over the years on a Mac that occasionally I'll slip an entire folder into another one, and often the only reasonable way for me to find it is via the same method I describe. Good Luck!
