Raw files ORF

Can someone give me a way how ORF Raw files from my Olumpus digital camera (OMD5E) can be openend in Elements 9. (i always get an error message)

As mentioned by Barbara, a particular version of Adobe Camera Raw supports files of specific cameras and PSE9 can only support cameras which are supported by ACR 6.5. So just check out if ACR 6.5 has support for your camera or not.

  • Bug in Crop tool with Olympus E-M5 raw files (ORF)

There is a bug in the crop tool with Olympus OM-D E-M5 RAW files (ORF) that is still not fixed with the recent update.  Here is how to reproduce the problem.
I setup my E-M5 camera picture aspect ratio to 3:2 (instead of the sensor 4:3) and file format to RAW.
    I take a picture.
I import the picture in Lightroom.  The first thumbnail I see is the full sensor, then Lightroom computes a new thumbnail and correctly display the 3:2 crop factor.
I select the picture in the library and press [R] to bring the Crop tool.
BUG: The Crop tool does not let me recover the full 4:3 sensor image and is locked to the 3:2 crop factor.
    Can this be fixed?  Thanks

Are you sure you mean Photoshop version 6 the is a very old version of Photoshop before ACR existed. ACR first became available as a extra cost plug-in for Photoshop version 7.  ACR started to be shipped with Photoshop with  Photoshop CS. Each version since Photoshop CS has a newer version of ACR which is not compatible with older versions of Photoshop. So
    CS ACR version is 2.4
    CS2 ACR version 3.7
    CS3 ACR version 4.6
    CS4  ACR version 5.7
    CS5 ACR version 6.7
CS6 and CC ACR version 8.4 however the new features in ACR 8.4 for CC are crippled in CS6. CS6 just get the new Camera support.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=39&platform=Windows
If you have CS6 use menu help>Updates it should find the ACR 8.4 for CS6 and update your installation. If it does not you can down load it and the DNG converter.  However don't convert to DNG just use your OFR RAW files.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/04/camera-raw-8-4-and-dng-converter-8-4-now-a vailable.html
If you do mean Photoshop version 6 you need to see if Olympus  has a RAW converter for Photoshop version 6 for your camera.

  • What level of Elements will support Olympus OMD-M-5 Raw Files (.ORF) ??

What level of Elements will support Olympus OMD-M-5 Raw Files (.ORF) ??

Yes it is the OM-D E-M5 Newly purchased. Love the camera but don't like the Olympus software.
I have Elements 7, but have previously been a Canon user and have hitherto used Canon DPP software to process my CR2 Raw files.

  • Olympus E20N Raw Files (.orf) not supported?

Am I doing something wrong? The .orf files from my Olympus E20n import as empty images (metadata seems to be importing) with the message the image is an unsupported format. Are .orf files from the E-1 different than E20N?
Also, from the Apple web site, it states DNG files will not work if the Raw format is unsupported. Does that explain why converting the E20N Raw files to DNG fail to display with the same error.
Sorry if this sounds like a "Duh!" but I'd like confirmation before I waste additional hours trying to get this to work.
    Thanks!

Sad but true. I also thought that .DNG was the .PDF of the RAW photo world, but no. One man's DNG is another man's poison. Each DNG contains information to that specific camera RAW and parameters on how to process. So unless the application understands the RAW, it won't understand the DNG either.
Lots of old family snaps from a Canon Powershot s40 stuck in limbo land, unless I go editing plist files ..... or reprocess to TIF's and then import. And yes, that's how I found out about the .DNG gotcha!

    Hi,
does anyone now when or if it is posible to watch thumbs or even images in preview taken with a Olympus PEN E-P5.. it kind of *** to not be able to see the images in finder or in preview, noe i have to open them randomly in Adobe Photoshop CC who can take those files with out problems...

When Camera Raw is eventually updated for this camera, the plugin will not be compatible with CS5.
It'll be for CS6 (maybe) and CC only.
If you choose to stay with CS5 (and not upgrade) then you'll have to download the free Adobe DNG converter and convert the Pen E-P5 Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5.

  • RAW files not launching

After a system crash I reinstalled Lightroom 3.6 and subscribed to Creative Cloud.
Downloaded and installed without issue Bridge and Photoshop CS6 - 64bit Windows 7 system.
Some (NOT ALL) of the RAW files (ORF) that I restored from a backup will not display thumbnails or launch in Bridge or Lightroom.
Bridge gives me the error "Could not complete your request because its not the right kind of document"
Lightroom gives me the error "Preview not available"
I've checked the knowledge base and reviewed similar issues with CS3 but none of the solutions make sense since this is a new install and my cameras have been supported in Adobe Camera Raw since v5.3 or earlier.
I did download and install the camera manufacturer's editing program and it will display the files without any issue - I had throught this may have been a Win7 issue but since I can launch a raw file from this viewer it suggests the issue is with the Adobe products and not a Win7 problem.
Really not sure what to try next and would appreciate some suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

After additional investigation I have resolved the issue via a combination of removing the camera raw file from the 32 bit plug-in folder as suggested here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/generic-icons-camera-raw-files.html
As well as it appears that when I restored my backup from Carbonite all the files came back without the proper security settings which was preventing these items to be viewed in Lightroom and Bridge because file editing was not enabled even through the "read only" checkbox was removed.

  • No Preview on RAW files

I'm running a MAC, OS X 10.8 with Photoshop Elements version 10 and Adobe Bridge CS4
I've just go myself a new Olympus OM-D5 camera. Very nice! One small problem though. The RAW files (*.ORF) don't show up as thumbs in the preview. The RAW convertor to extract them into Elements seems to be working fine. But I'd like to have the preview in Bridge working as well. My Cannon and Sony RAW files work fine in preview.
    Any thoughts?

  • Aperture 3.1.3 and Olympus E-PL2 RAW files

    Hi all;
    I'm using Aperture 3.1.3 on a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz, 8 gig RAM. OS is OS X 10.7
My new Olympus E-PL2 RAW files  (.ORF) do not seem to be compatible, despite Apple indicating that they are supported. The corresponding DNG files produce the same error message.  Whenever I try to export or use a plug-in, I get the following message:
    Editing Error
This image cannot be renedered for editing
because Aperture does not support the image format.
Does anyone have any recommendations for fixing this issue?
    Thanks!!
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
I'm running a similar configuration (hardware and camera) and I'm able to edit RAW in Aperture/Lion. Do you have all other s/w maintainance applied?
Only problem I've seen since Lion is problems with images not on the MBP, in particular my NAS library is no inaccessible.

  • *Need Immediate Help*: Aperture Olympus Raw Files

I need help, is there a way to open Olympus Raw Files (.orf) in Aperture? I really need to get my camera's raw photos working!
    -Thanks

There are a number of cameras that either were once supported by iPhoto or Aperture and now are not, or that are not supported yet. Apple support declined to provide a list of cameras iPhoto and Aperture were compatible with.
If you use a Canon Digital Rebel, you'll be okay. Otherwise test the software with your camera before buying one or the other.
If all else fails, Adobe Lightroom will, as far as I know, open any RAW image from any camera once it's converted to DNG-RAW with the free DNG converter. So, if you can't get RAW to work with Aperture or iPhoto, there is an alternative.
iPhoto and Aperture are the only photo apps I've tried that will not import RAW of any kind from my Nikon 5700. Apple support had no fix.
If anyone has one, I'd love to hear it.

  • Orf raw files

I found a few hints here and I've done everything suggested and still not able to read .orf files.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit and Photoshop CS3. (I am holding out for CS6)
I downloaded the latest ACR and no go. I downloaded v 4.3.1  (as suggested in another post), no go.
I tried converting to dng using both the latest and the 4.3.1 dng converters, no go.
I downloaded the upgrade manager? (forgot what it is called, but one of the steps I tried said I needed this, so I downloaded it and got some error about not the right version)
So do I need to return the camera (can't read the raw files- it comes with software but not as good as Photoshop) or is there still hope?

    Thanks for your help.
I "installed" the exe file that I downloaded here http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5024&fileID=4680
It ended with, I guess, placing an executable (Adobe DNG Converter.exe) in the ProgramFiles (86) -> Adobe. But it didn't close the window, almost like it wanted me to do something else, but I don't know what it wants, so I just closed the window.
It is not under Start Button -> Adobe as suggested on this page:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5024&promoid=DTEHR
(so maybe it didn't finish installing after all?)
So I looked for it, under ProgramFiles (86) -> Adobe, click on Adobe DNG Converter.exe and it opens.
I select the folder where my Olympus XZ-1 .orf files are and it doesn not see anything in that directory. My old Bridge sees them, (but can't open them) so there are files there, but dng converter 6.4 doesn't see them.
Just for fun, I tried to open some older Canon crw files I have opened and edited (so I know the files are good) and DNG converter can't see anything in that directory either.
(Note: when I tried the DNG converter v 4.3, it saw the files, but just wouldn't select them.)
    What am I doing wrong?
I have Win7 64 bit, could that be the problem?

  • Does not import ORF raw files

Photo's does not support Olympus ORF raw files. At least not the latest M5 MkII camera raw files. Its a brand new program why is it not up to date with Oly raw files.

Welcome to the list. Make sure you read the [Help & Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa] section when you get a chance.
Do you have Aperture installed in the Applications folder as Aperture (not Aperture3 or anything like that)?

  • Ipad and olympus ORF raw files from epl-1

I have an ipad that I've used as something of a photo storage device while on vacations. I do underwater photography and each day I come in and download the card to my ipad. In the past I've used a point and shoot that saved the files in a jpg format and had no problem with any software being able to read or edit those files. Recently I purchased an olympus epl-1 camera and started shooting in raw. I followed my normal procedure and uploaded the files each day to the pad and it seems to allow me to view them without difficulty. Last night I downloaded the files to the computer in order to batch convert several to jpg's in photoshop elements. Photoshop tells me it cannot read the orf format from any of the files I downloaded from the pad. PSE has no trouble reading the raw files from the same camera that I had not uploaded to the pad. Does the pad change the files in some way? I intend to pull the files off of the cards tonight and see if pse will read them. Is this a known issue? I haven't found anything about it. Thanks for your help.

The files should not have been changed by the iPad. Bear in mind that there are a half a zillion versions of RAW. It may be that the iPad does not support Olympus RAW.

  • DNG and Olympus XZ-2 ORF raw files

Not sure why this is not working. Using the stand alone DNG converter I select the folder with the ORF files (Olympus raw files) but DNG is not seeing them. It's like they are not there. I know they are there. I am using DNG 8.3. Is it possible this version is not yet supporting these files? Help!!! Thank you. My Olympus camera is a Stylus XZ-2

I am using DNG 8.3. Is it possible this version is not yet supporting these files?
    Correct.
Refer to the following tables to see which cameras are supported. If a camera is not listed then it's not supported.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    https://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/02/camera-raw-8-4-rc-and-dng-converter-8-4-r c-now-available.html
Both indicate that the Olympus XZ-2 is not yet supported in Camera Raw up to and including the pre-release version 8.4.

  • Aperture confuses orf and nef and avi raw files. Suggestions on what to do?

Just used a new Olympus E-M5 in Italy and Germany, after many years of using Nikon products, most recently a D700 with fast glass. I have also used Aperture from version 1.0. Olympus RAW file format is .ORF. As I have uploaded the images into Aperture from the SD cards, I have just found that on one card about 100 files are mis-identified in Aperture's import window as either .NEF or .AVI files, rather than the .ORF files that they are. They are identified as .ORF files on the card itself.
I have not yet imported them and wondered if anyone has any thoughts about the wisdom of: (1) uploading them as they are, as the images seem to be fine; (2) batch changing the file extension to .ORF once they have been imported; (3) trying some variant of drag and drop, or moving the files to a new folder and importing from there; (4) something totally different and better.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. For those of you tired of tugging around big bodies and fast (and heavy) glass, the move to the E-M5 has been wonderful. Great Zeiss and Leica lenses are available (and much lighter!) and the images are magnificent, though smaller, in the 4/3 format.

How are you imorting from your Olympus? Directly from the camera or from a card reader? With some cameras the results can be different, if imported directly from the camea. If possible, use a card reader.
    My D700 used compact flash, so this SD card has never been in a Nikon camera;
That is not what I meant - I thought that maybe this particular card has a corrupted filesystem and needs reformatting. Can you check with a different card, if all is o.k. for newer photos?
Do you have any thoughts about changing the file extension from .NEF to .ORF?
If it are truely .ORF files, it should not matter, how you call the file. But you need to do it before importing to Aperture. Afterwards renaming may cause Aperture to lose the connection between master and version.
I just made the following test: I renamed a Canon raw file (".CR2") to  Nikon raw (".NEF") in the Finder and reimported the renamed file. In spite of the misleading ,NEF extension, Aperture recognized the file by its attributes as a Canon Raw, as this screenshot ist showing, because of the EXIF, also when I renamed the file to "-ORF"- And the "Raw Fine Tuning" brick shows clearly, that independent of the file name extension the correct raw develepment, that for the Canon EOS will be used.
But the Finder will show the "Kind" of the "NEF" file as "Nikon Electronic Format". So if it bothers you, rename the file.
Have you by any chance set a file renaming preset in the "Import" panel? HAve a look at the "Rename Files" brick in the "Import" panel and check the preset, that is used by going to "Edit".
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Importing ORF (Olympus Raw Files)

I've just purchased an Olympus SP-550UZ and although the ORF show in preview they grey out and dont import when import is hit. JPG are fine any ideas?

On a separate question in a 4/3 digital camera forum I was directed to this link regarding importing files into Aperture if you're shooting 'raw + jpeg'. If this is your case apparently Aperture will only load the jpegs and ignores the raw files. There is a fix however and it is explained on this link. I have found that support regarding Aperture is better on the digital camera forums rather than here. I have posted several queries here with no replies so good luck.
    http://www.completedigitalphotography.com/?p=408
You may have to try the link several times and when you get there I believe this link is out of a page of the complete digital photography book the website owner has so you get some 'link crossover garbage' at the top of the screen but you'll be able to see the fix for this problem. If in fact you're not shooting raw+jpeg then I'm not sure what the fix would be. Good luck though!
My issue resides in the fact that Aperture doesn't support the E510 for raw files yet and it's very frustrating since I just ordered my iMac 2.4 also. The cutting edge manufacturer of hardware for photo and video editing, two of their specialty fields, apparently is very slow on the upkeep of their software to support the cutting edge hardware that interfaces. Go figure. Still I think over the long haul it's the right platform.
