RAW Files since 10.10.3 corrupted

Hello,
yesterday, I updated my Mac with OS X 10.10.3.
It seems that also the Version of the RAW Converter has changed.
Now I have the problems that RAW Files from my Sony Alpha 6000 are corrupted when I am trying to open them in Aperture or in the new Photo-App.
RAW Files that were imported with the previous RAW Converter are showed correct.
Is it possible to go back to the older RAW-Converter and delete the new one?
Is this a known problem ?

This does not work, and it worked before the 10.6.3 update:
As you note, program stream MPEG2/MP2 files are compatible and should play under under OS 10.6.3 for you the same as they do (as indicated above) for me. Since certain components (most notably the QT MPEG-2 Playback and Perian) became "disconnected" for some people originally upgrading to Snow Leopard, you might try re-installing the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component even if it is plainly visible in the appropriate folder and see if this makes any difference or you get a message saying a newer component is already installed. I.e., if you observed the upgrade process, did you note any mention of the installation of new components. I did, but am not sure if this referred to the installation of new/updated QT media components or not. Just thought I would mention it in case the upgrade process was interrupted and might be the source of your problem. (Just throwing out guesses here as I have nothing concrete to offer as to why my system continues to work properly but yours doesn't.)

  • Aperture can't read RAW files since update???

So I went to import the pictures from the holidays into Aperture yesterday and it wouldn't read the raw files. Aperture just keeps saying it's generating thumbnails. I shut it down, got on a plane and tried again today, same problem and even the photos previously imported and were fine aren't showing up properly. It just says "unsupported image format."
My last import was the last week of Novemeber.
Is anyone else having this problem since the 2.1.4 update??

    I encountered a similar problem - see thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2274871&tstart=0
Did you also do the latest MAc Os update - with the additional DIGITAL RAW compatibility update 2.7?
I did the APerture update a while ago and everything was working fine - it is only after I did the latest OS update that I encountered the same issue.

  • LR4 auto adjusting and messing up my RAW files since latest update? How do I turn this off?

    HELP!
This latest LR4 update has somehow turned my RAW files into these wretched looking too bright, too yellow/orange, messes.  I DO NOT have it set to auto import with any presets. I am not able to "reset" back to the usual dull, blah, flat looking RAW files I used to see in my LR4.
I also know for a fact that this is NOT how I took the images so the setting it's being imported with are not how I took the images.  I know this because I've been shooting RAW-Jpeg since I noticed this and couldn't find where to turn this setting off, and my JPEGS look NOTHING like what this is importing them as.
It's importing them all, regardless of session as I've imported 10 different sessions lately, and ALL of them somehow change over from the dull images RAW files typically look like when I click on them to enlarge them to have Temp 5500, Tint, -11, Exp +70, Contrast +5, highlights -9, Shadows +9, Whites -98,  Blacks -2, Clarity +19, Vib +10, Sat +19, and Orange +6 with Sharpening 81 and Noise Reduc at 4.
What's going on??? How do I reset them back to the original RAW settings and stop LR from importing every.single.session with the settings above? I have no Presets with these settings either!

Thank you to a fellow photog who answered my question via Facebook!  Apparently one of my assistants mistakenly made adjustments in the Libray tab to the "Saved Prest" which saved her settings as "Custom" as well as saved the Whitebalance change she made there and the Tone Control section.  I hit the "reset all" button under Tone Control and all is right with the world again! WHEW!

  • Cannot import RAW files since I upgraded to Yosemite

I used to import RAW files using iPhoto from my T3 Canon camera but since I upgraded to OS X Yosemite (10.10.1) and iPhoto 9.6 I cannot do this anymore. I have reinstalled the OS, applied all the RAW upgrades and even deleted and installed iPhoto again but raw photos cannot be successfully imported. Additionally, OS X becomes unstable after trying to import Raw files. I have the same problem in two different PCs (a Mac mini, a MacBook Pro) as a result, I have concluded that there is a problem with the RAW compatibility drivers. How can I convince Apple that there is something wring with their drivers?

    Start by letting them know:
iPhoto Menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
Then try reinstall the Raw Support. This thread
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)
    explains how to do that.

  • Elements 8 no longer opening raw files since upgrading camera to 600D

I am using elements 8 and windows XP. I have just upgraded my camera from a canon 450D to a 600D and now elements will not open my raw files, it states that they are the wrong type of files. I have been told that I require a patch to elements 8 so where do I find the patch and where in elements do I put it?

Unfortunately, the 600D requires ACR 6.4.1 patch which is not available for PSE 8.
    Your options are
    1) use the Canon software
    2) Upgrade your PSE
    3) Use the free DNG converter to convert the CR2 files to DNG files which can then be used in PSE 8.

  • Errors converting Nikon D70s RAW files since yesterday

Yesterday i've installed "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.2" which seems to be the cause for some really nasty problems with Nikon D70's RAW files.
Now (some of the) files will simply display a dark red image just displaying "Nicht unterstütztes Dateiformat" (means "unsupported file format").
Will there be a fix like "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.3" quite soon?
Is there any chance to go back to 2.1 ?
Please, provide me some hint on what to do next.

I have this problem myself, and others have reported it too, and that was before the this new "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.2" was released.
It looks like a bug in Aperture.
Just search for "Unsupported File Format Error" to see more reports.
Try sending them feedback with the pulldowm menu item.

  • Since when is LR changing RAW file?

I would appreciate if anyone could explain since what version LR is writing anything into the original RAW file.
I believed that RAW file is never altered, and I liked it like that.
Now, all of a sudden, we learned that LR is changing EXIF time stamp inside the original RAW file. I think that is a big problem. I do not want my RAW files to be altered by LR, not even benign time stamp. The mess with LR 1.4 demonstrates clearly why it is a bad idea to alter RAW files. If LR was altering original RAW files since 1.0, than I have been seriously misled and will certainly abandon LR for CaptureOne. At the moment I use both of them equally.
If CaptureOne alters the RAW files as LR does, then there is no other option but to back up originals before they are even opened and keep three versions of the same image: original RAW, altered RAW and exported and edited JPEG or TIFF.
Please, do not recommend DNG format. I will never use it. I understand that some people may like it, but I am not one of them.
    Ivan

If you take an image with the camera date set incorrectly, then you why wouldn't you want write the correct time to the original file. It will save you having to manually correct the time every time you use that original RAW image somewhere else. It's still non-destructive because you can change that time as many times as you like without affecting the actual image data, or degrading image quality. LR also saves the original time (maybe to XMP? not sure about that) and gives you the option to revert back to the original capture time. I don't see any problems with this.
In fact I only found this post because I'm looking for a way to batch 'shift' the time for a number a photos by one year, as the wrong year was set on the camera. To do this in LR I would either have to manually adjust the date for each image. It has been very handy in the past though, when travelling through different time-zones.
I think writing to the RAW file rather than saving the settings in a sidecar file reflects the practical needs of the majority of photographers who are correct the date of capture for a file.

  • IPhoto importing RAW, then converting to jpg--losing RAW file completely

Okay, I've read through some of the posts on similar issues, but I still have some questions. I've always used iPhoto to import my RAW files (since it supported it anyway) and never had problems. I bought a new G5 and it seems like this problem has shown itself since. I went back to my G4 though, and found that all my old .NEF's are now jpg's as well. If I do a search on my computer for .NEF's it brings back nothing having to do with .NEF files.
In the past I've imported using iPhoto because of the ease of keeping track of the original files. After importing I open them in Photoshop CS with Camera Raw. I cannot do this now. The weird thing is that viewing it in iPhoto the extension that it shows is .NEF, but when I look at the file in the Finder it shows that it's a .jpg. Was there an update recently that changed anything considerably? This is a very frustrating problem. JPG files are pretty worthless to me because I can't get the same amount of info/size out of them.
Any insights to this would be very appreciated.
    Thanks.
EDIT: I've forgotten to include other info. My camera is a Nikon D70 (supported by Apple). I'm using all the latest versions of OS X, and iPhoto. I have PS CS.

    Hi heloguy,
Did you look in the Originals folders on each date?
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.

  • Importing RAW files into iPhoto'08

I'm trying to import photo's taken in a RAW format from my Canon 550d into iPhoto'08 and all the time after trying to move the photo into an album I get an error message saying 'unable to import unreadable file'.
could this be due to a software update needed for iPhoto'08 for the 550d which I have yet to install?
I have noticed on occasion, a software update would come up to support other camera's when using RAW files.

since I've downloaded the trial version of Aperture 3 I have noticed I can now import and work on RAW images taken off my 550d in iPhoto '08.
so it seems thats a way to get it to work. although now that I'm using Aperture 3 (just the trial version for now), I do not want to go back to using iPhoto '08! lol, its a cruel world...

  • Canon 60D - RAW files not opening

I have recently taken pictures with a Canon 60D and i am unable to open the raw files in ACR.
I am running PS CS5 and have ACR 6.7.
I have read forums which say that the 60D require 6.2 and yet i am still unable to view the files.
Other applications as the Digital Photo Professional open them fine when i have downloaded the drivers for that camera.
    Can any one help?

The raw file you posted is not corrupt; however, it is from a 650D which wasn’t supported in ACR 6.7.  See screen capture, below.
Do you have a 60D file that doesn’t work that you can post?
You could convert the 650D raw files to DNGs to process them in CS5/ACR 6.7, or upgrade to CS6/ACR 8.1 for $200, or subscribe to the creative cloud single-app, or perhaps expierment with Lightroom, with the longest timeframe would be available with LR 5.2 RC that expires Sept 30.

  • Can I "cache" large RAW files imported from network drive on local drive?

I've seen discussions similar to this topic, regarding "offline" editing, but not exact answers I'm looking for.
I'm copying RAW files from a shoot onto my network RAID drive in a per-album folder, from where I then import into a new LR catalog (I'm using LR 4.1) on my Windows laptop for that album.
I'm finding that editing RAW files on a network drive from a wireless laptop is awfully slow (not to mention not being able to continue the work offline somewhere else), so I'd like to cache those files on my speedy SSD drive just until I'm done editing and exporting/publishing that album.
I back up my per-album catalog onto the network folder alongside the RAW files since that's my IT-managed master repository. When I'm done editing, I'd purge the cached files and just keep the catalog previews on my limited capacity SSD.
So, is there a way to tell LR to, for one/all files imported from a location (in my case a network folder), look in an alternate location for the identical files? Since I create per-album catalogs in per-album folders, there wouldn't be filename clashing. Either LR can provide this caching behavior on its own or I'd manually copy files from the network folder to a local folder and tell LR to look there first.
I don't really want to make copies of files into secondary folders within LR since then it's a hassle to merge edits on the cached copy to its master copy (I haven't done this, but I'd imagine so).
    Thanks for your workflow tips.
    Erhhung

Have you tried locating your ACR Raw cache on this SSD drive, also ensuring that the size limit of this cache is large enough, to keep a goodly chunk of these Raw images all in play at the same time?
My understanding is that for performance reasons, LR will be caching your Raw data locally in any case - on conventional hard disk by default. And it will be doing so in an intermediate half-converted form (demosaiced into "sensor RGB space" but not translated into "picture RGB values" - the latter process varies depending on your live Develop adjustments).
So long as this cache has not run short, and reallocated space for something else, LR should (as far as I know) not be needing to go back to the network drive to re-fetch actual Raw content. And keeping that cache somewhere fast rather than somewhere slow, should improve responsiveness.
I imagine, though, that LR will continually check the availability and the unchanged timestamp of the real source file; and wouldn't let you carry on working from automatically cached data otherwise.

  • Iphoto not recognizing Canon raw files even after latest update

I have a Canon 5D MkII and the camera was listed in the last iPhoto update as one of the cameras that iPhoto will allow camera raw downloads with. It gets about 3/4 the way through my downloads and just freezes the whole computer to where I have to power off to reboot. Then it wil come up with a box that says the raw files are unreadable or unrecognized. Very frustrated. Help please!

If you want to shoot RAW, you better forget about iPhoto and start using an application that's been designed for that purpose like Aperture, Lightroom or even Canon DPP.
iPhoto sort of handles RAW files since the support is built-in to the OS, but its tools are inadequate at best.

  • D300 raw files in A2 - Colors are terrible?

I've been using Nikon's Capture NX software to edit my D300 raw files since Aperture 1.5 didn't support D300 raw files. Tonight, I downloaded the trial version of Aperture 2.0 and imported some of my D300 raw files into A2. Side by side comparison is night and day - The colors in the NX software are brilliant, while the exact same raw file viewed in A2 is pathetic. I also noticed that you can do a lot more correcting of the files in NX than you can do in A2, like adjusting active-dlighting and built-in picture control (vivid, etc.)
My first impression of A2 for editing D300 raw files is very poor. Capture NX does a much better job, probably because it's made by Nikon for a Nikon camera. A warning to A2 users - the raw images from a D300 are REALLY raw, they don't appear to include any in-camera corrections. Making these corrections in A2 is almost impossible because the Nikon-specific controls aren't in A2.
Am I losing my mind or has anyone else noticed this?
I still plan on using A1.5 or A2 to manage my libraries, but can't see any reason to use Aperture to edit my D300 raw files!

Ask anybody who knows anything about raw converters what the principal difference between Capture NX and other raw converters is and your observation will be first thing mentioned. This probably was not your intention, but by making the obvious appear sensational you created the impression that Aperture has been unduly hyped in an insincere manner. Which is not true since what you describe is one the first things people learn about raw converters and therefore cannot be hidden behind any hype.
That does not change the fact that your observation is absolutely correct. Unfortunately, there is far no software available that would make switching between different raw conversion engines simple and easy (except Aperture with raw version 1.0, 1.1 and 2 but almost nobody would want to choose any of the older converter versions over the current one). So, you cannot have the raw conversion of Capture NX and the ease of use of Aperture in one simple package.

  • Massive RAW files on editing originals in Iphoto

On some occasions, but not all, when I process a RAW file and go to upload the result to Flickr, I discover it is some 4 or 5 times the size of the original RAW file, but on other occasions it isn't.  This seems to repeat in certain files, if I try to redo them.  Is this siomething I can work round, or isit something I am stuck with?  Thanx in advance if anyone can help!
    D

editing can not "change" the size of a RAW file since the original RAW file is kept and you can not edit RAW - when you edit RAW you create a new file iin either a JPEG or TIFF depending on how you have changed the default iPhoto preference settings - exactly how are you editing the RAW? In the iPhoto preferences do you have the preference to save RAW edits as TIFFs checked (betting you do) - if so uncheck it

  • Raw Files Appear Deleted or Corrupted Suddenly in Aperture with Unsupported Image Format Error

I have been using Aperture 3, latest update, for the past year. Today, I tried to import new raw files from my new Sony RX1r and, as far as I can see, all raw files in Aperture give the "Unsupported Image Format" and alert symbol in the library where not only new files should be, but also ALL PREVIOUS RAW FILES. These files do no even show up as existing in the iPhoto Library.
This is, needless to say, distressing, as hundreds and hundreds of photos seem lost. Also, the files show a reduced pixel size and file sizes all go to .5 Mb. Some of the photos seemed to show up initially and look fine until I tried to open them, then they all either disappear or show the Unsupported Image Format instead of the opened file. I have tried rebuilding the iPhoto library, but no help.
I have looked in these discussions and see similar problems with Aperture. Perhaps, Apple has not made an update for the RX1r from the RX1 for raw files, but why should all older raw files now be corrupted, especially those recently made with my Olympus OM-D? Had no problem with Aperture until this disaster.
    Please help.
    William

Just an update. Restarted computer and attempted rebuilds of iPhoto library a couple more times and finally files and photos mostly recovered, except for those I had tried to open. Aperture seems to have a problem, or a host of them, dealing with RAW files, and there is no update yet for the Sony RX1R for Aperture or iPhoto. Lightroom 5, on the other hand, seems to work great with these files directly, so that will be where all photos go for now. Will iPhoto and Aperture just become old archives? It is so infuriating that Apple does not allow for simple importing and exporting compatibility with such an excellent program as Lightroom 5 just to protect their somewhat poorly supported Aperture. I've been a staunch Apple supporter and user since the 80's, but having more doubts about the direction this company is taking.
