I transfer RAW and JPEG files from my camera to iPhoto on the iPad using
a camera connection kit. How can I copy the files from the iPad to my Mac Pro?
(I need the RAW files in particular.)

  • Fuji raw files from iPad Camera Roll to Lightroom Mobile

I can not transfer Fuji XE2 Raw files from my iPad Camera Roll into  Lightroom Mobile. They will transfer from Lightroom 5.4 into mobile and can be edited which proves mobile can handle them. However not a lot of good for location use!
Does anyone else have this issue? Is there another way of transferring files within the iPad other than from camera roll?

Thanks for the quick response, although disappointing to hear. Surely that rather defeats the object!
Once you have them on your regular computer why would you then want to transfer and edit them on an iPad? I'm off on a weeks holiday and want to work on them while away.
There are other iPad apps that can import raw files but as I already use Lightroom I was hoping to use their mobile app.
    What a let down!!

  • What is your workaround - removing RAW files from iPad without a computer

    Hello
Over the last couple days I have searched virtually the entire web for a solution for a photo workflow that would allow me to only have my ipad with me when I am on a vacation and still being able to review my images without running out of memory.
Here's the issue on which I couldn't find any solution:
When using the ipad with the camera connection kit (CCK) then the import function will always copy the raw files along with the jpg to the ipad. There is no way of selecting to only import the jpg files.
(At least if you have only 1 CF card slot - Canon 5DMk2)
I already wrote to apple asking for offering that option in their importing dialogue.
Unfortunately it appears that many photographers also ran into the very same issue - but other than buying a 128GB ipad there appears to be no workaround.
Does anybody know a decent solution?
    My goal would be:
    1. Import the RAW files to iphoto on the ipad
    2. Create smaller jpg versions
    3. Delete the originals in iphoto to free up space
    4. Use the smaller versions on the ipad for showing/reviewing

You don't need to do raw processing on iPad, if you shoot in RAW+JPEG mode.  Then, you can preview JPEG on iPad and leave RAW processing for when you get home to your computer.  The trouble is that iPad imports both RAW+JPEG and runs out of space; which is difficult to recover because iPad lacks "delete all raw" button.
Thousands of photographers have been asking for this workflow for years.  Apple knows, but Apple chose to do nothing.  I'm giving up on Apple.
Does anyone know of a 3rd party app which can use Camera Connection Kit to import only JPEG versions of photos from an SD card or a camera?  Does this app allow one to select all pictures and delete them after they are no longer needed on the iPad?
Remember: This has to function in the middle of nowhere, using just a camera and iPad.  No computer!  Many photographers prefer to travel light.

  • Will we ever be able to import RAW files from iPad camera roll into Lightroom Mobile?

Is this a planned feature, or should I look elsewhere for iPad photo editing?
I only shoot in RAW and I would sometimes like to do a quick edit in the field. As it stands, Lightroom Mobile is a completely useless application for me. Needing to import the photos to my Macbook in order to use a dumbed-down version of Lightroom makes no sense to me. Why do I need Lightroom Mobile if I need to have my computer with me to use it anyways?
Without this feature, I don't quite understand what Lightroom Mobile is supposed to accomplish. Is it purely for people who only own a desktop and need to perform basic edits on the go? Is that a large enough demographic to develop an entire app? Even if it is meant for only those people, it would still likely be far more useful to them if they could import RAW photos in the field and not have to stop by their studio/home to import and move into a collection first.

The likely real reason why Adobe doesn't do this yet even though many people have requested it is that it would cost them dearly in bandwidth and storage capacities. Right now only smallish lossy compressed, downscaled dngs or simple jpegs travel to and from Adobe's servers which is tenable. Sending full raw files from 24+ MP cameras is probably not something they can realistically do yet. Having the iPad try to generate the lossy dng will likely show how very low powered they are in comparison to a simple laptop and is likely not yet a realistic solution so you'd still have to send the file online and have the dng generated by a server.
I use the mobile thing for simple iPad slideshows and simple portfolios. The color is really good as the current generation of iPad screens is very well done with close to sRGB gamut. I'll sometimes do some simple edits but it is really not very useful for that yet. It shows promise but is not useful as a laptop replacement yet on trips. You're better off getting a lightweight laptop (many cheapo ultralight windows ones out there nowadays and the MacBook Airs are great for this) and running the full Lightroom on that if you are traveling.

  • Importing RAW files from iPad into Aperture

    Hello,
While on the go, I used the camera connection kit to import some RAW files (.NEF from a Nikon D300s) into my iPad directly from the SD card. The files where correctly imported, they display perfectly in the iPad screen and I was surprised to see no lagging when zooming such big files.
Now the bad thing. When I got back home I tried to import such files into a new Aperture project. When I connect the iPad to my mac, although it takes some time, all the pictures are correctly displayed, but when I hit the import button, aperture keeps turning the task indicator wheel without ever importing a single picture! Cancelling the import task does not work and the only way to get Aperture to work again is by force quitting it.
    Any ideas?
Ps.: all my software is updated and running the latest versions (Aperture 3, mac OS X 10.6.4, etc)

The reason why the iPad shows the images so quick is because it is not showing the actual raw data like Aperture does. Instead the iPad does the same as the camera does when showing the photo on your LCD. Each RAW file has an embedded JPG preview. The iPad (and your camera) show that preview image. There is no raw processing happening.
Not sure why copying or importing to Aperture causes you trouble. As soon as I plug my iPad into the USB to my PC it shows up as a folder. I can copy the files from there to my computer.

  • Export RAW files from iPad to NAS

    Hello everyone,
I've been a while wondering if it is possible to quit personal computers for my Photo Workflow, that involves RAW file formats. The ideal workflow should be like this:
    Take a photo in RAW+JPEG.
Import the photo in an iPad Air 2 with iOS 8 via SD Card Adapter.
Work with the image with the existing RAW editing apps, Like Photogene 4 or SnapSeed.
Save the original RAW and edited stuff in a Synology NAS.
The problem is the fourth step. It's impossible for me to extract them intact from iPad to NAS. I had recently a false positive when I found FileBrowser, which is a Finder-like app that let's you take RAWs from an album and copy to a network storage. BUT surprise! The filesize of that files is EXACTLY the same of the JPGs, around 2,5 MB, so these .CR2 files have been altered.
¿Is there some way to export RAW files from an iPad?

  • Lightroom Mobile and RAW-files on iPad's

    Hello,
In a Dutch photo magazine called ZOOM.nl I have read, that it is impossible to get RAW-files from a camera (I guess they mean through the SD-card adapter) on an iPad to work with them in Lightroom Mobile!?
Is this true? Because on the official Apple-site I read Enhance everything from smartphone photos to raw images from DSLRs in the description of LR Mobile on iPad's.
    Which statement is correct?
    Best regards,
    Huub Martens.

Please Please Please:let me rating my raw files in the iPad and then sync with LR.

definitely the battery wont be the problem.
The important thing is that the IPAD already can see the RAW files;)
would be very useful to make the rating in it.

  • What happens to Raw files when importing Raw+JPG from camera to Lightroom Mobile on iPad? Only JPGs are showing up.

Hey I am Brian, and I was wondering how Lightroom mobile works again as in when importing photos directly into iPad using the camera connection kit.? This is for IPad 2.  I . Like when importing raw files. now I just did a photo shoot. and I just uploaded them into lightroom 5 on desktop. the raw files are being pushed as smart priviews acroos ipad and iphone. its kinda cool seeing cr2 file showing up on lightroom mobile. when its coming from lightroom 5. but what about coming from camera to ipad.?
I thought you can import a Raw plus jpeg into ipad and it shows up as a jpeg plus raw file. well its not doing that. shows up as just jpeg.
cant wait for next update  of lighroom mobile.

With this version of LR Mobile we not support the direct RAW import.

  • Can't separate raw files from jpegs in my ipad iphoto...

i recently purchased iphoto for my ipad but i cannot separate raw files from jpegs. i can see them all in my imac and save all files properly, but then i would like to erase raw files and keep only jpegs in my ipad but cannot find how to do it! any help? thank you!

yes I am importing pairs raw+jpeg using the camera connection kit. for what I understood reading the entire discussion you suggested, the solution is, after saving the files elsewhere, to delete the photos, but ipad would erase only raw files, leaving the jpeg. but I tried with one photo, and after deleting it, the photo was gone entirely!..
also, I still cannot see both pictures (raw and jpeg) in my ipad iphoto. i can see them in my imac iphoto, but it seems the program runs differently according to the device.. that would make things so much easier for everybody!
a button 'select all' would also be appreciated I am sure!
