RAW files will not import

Does iPhoto 8 support importing RAW files from a Panasonic LX-3 camera?

Here is the list of recently supported cameras: The LX-3 is on the list. But it lists only iPhoto '09

  • Raw files will not Import from Camera?

I have Elements 6 and Canon XSI. I took photos that I can view in my camera, when I attempted to import them into Elements 6 I'm getting the following messages: Not Imported- the files or folders seletect to import did not contain any supported file types.
also: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the organizer?
I have no idea what is happening or what to do?
    Thank you.

First off the problem you're having isn't being caused by the fact that you have a trial version of Aperture. The trial version is full featured, nothing is crippled.
You don;t state just what problems you are having when you try yo import into Aperture. Supplyinh that info might help figure out whats going on. Also I see by the product info on your post you're running Lion. Is that correct?

  • Can Lightroom 3 or 4 be updated still? I just purchased a Nikon d800 but the Raw files will not import using a MAC

As above shows, I might be in the wrong place to ask here? But can any one give me leads to this issue or can anyone share if they had the same issue.

    1. You'll know because there's be a Camera Raw update in your Software Update.
    2. iPhoto 11 is the current version. It will support it.
If iPhoto - or any app - isn't meeting you needs, of course get another application.

Alternatively, install & use RawTherapee instead to develop your raw files instead (free and open source).

I just bought the Nikon D750 and my raw files will not open in CC Photoshop. Is anyone else that has this camera experienced this problem?
My Photoshop says it is up to date, but I am hoping that since this camera just came out, Adobe will have an raw file update soon.

DNG Converter is FREE.  Yes, really.  No subscription needed.
    - Baloney, NOT FREE, it's a proprietary software, not open AT ALL, see Legal Notices, so stop trying to distort the truth here.
Camera Raw (& DNG Converter) 8.7RC has been available since 2nd October, and opens D750 files in Photoshop & Bridge (& Lightroom using DNG Converter).
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.7 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
    - Still a cumbersome process for this of us that PAID for software and support, the whole point of this discussion is to implement this directly on LR, so we, the PAYING users don't have to waste time doing a useless process that could be EASILY AVOIDED ig Adobe released updates as they are needed, or if they OPENED THE SOURCE CODE so the community could do it.
Adobe created DNG, which is a well-documented backwards-compatible format, which is free for any manufacturer to use.
See here for manufacturers who do (it's an old list, but you get the idea):
    http://www.barrypearson.co.uk/articles/dng/products_cameras.htm
    - Really? Did you actually read the site? It has PRECIOUS information that illustrate my point: Adobe DNG is an attempt to stop the OpenSource community from achieving the goals of OpenRaw, which is TRUE OPENNESS, Again, Adobe is trying to get manufacturers to PAY LICENSING so they use a PROPRIETARY FORMAT that will HOLD CUSTOMERS on a PAID platform. OpenRaw is he answer for a true competitive environment.
Ask yourself why other manufacturers don't use a documented backwards-compatible format.
    - Easy, because they are lazy and want kick-back. The SAME answer that I (and the entire OS community) would give if you asked about Acrobat or MS Office.
If you use a particular piece of software as your main tool, and you buy a camera which isn't yet supported by it, it's your problem. There is an expression used in the industry:
"Poor Planning on your part does not constitute an Emergency on my part."
    - I agree here, it's MY PROBLEM that I decided to have a better product, it was my choice. I can still use OS Tools, which will be what I do moving forward, and about that expression, that is EXACTLY why Adobe will keep loosing customers, because the sense of urgency to help who pays their bills is inexistent. You are correct, why should they rush something so simple to help a customer right? Screw the customer... Thanks for making my point...

You're welcome!  It's usually CS5 and below that has the ACR update problems.

  • My Nikon 7100 RAW files will not load into Iphoto.

My Nikon 7100 RAW files will not load into IPhoto.  The computer will recognize the files once the download is complete, but fails to finalize.  My version of IPhoto is 7.1.5 and my computer is a Mid 2007 Mac Mini Model.  I have Light Room 5, but my wife and I are prefer IPhoto for basic download and sharing.  Is there a possibility  of getting the RAW files to download ?

    what version of the OS?
You need Mt Lion and iPhoto '09 for your camera RAW support - OS X Mountain Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats -
If your computer will support tMavericks do the free upgrade to it and purchase the upgrade to iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x in the App store

  • Some Canon CR2 RAW Files Will Not Open In Elements 8

I use a Canon 7D DSLR.  Up until 30 minutes ago I never had a problem opening Canon CR2 RAW files in Photoshop Elements 8.
Some files still open others do not.  I can think of only one thing.  I was shooting a large number of frames and reduced the RAW Image size down from RAW Large Only to RAW Medium with Small Jpeg to give me more room on the Compact Flash Card.
The Large RAW only CR2 files open fine in PSE 8, the Jpegs open fine, but the smaller sized CR2 files will not open and I get a wrong file type message in PSE8.
Any ideas why this would happen?  I suspect it is a function of the camera setting, but all RAW files download as CR2 files.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter.  Needless to say I am resetting my camera back to Large RAW files only.
    Alex

ACR 5.x only supported full-sized 7D RAWs, but ACR 6.x supports 7D mRAW and sRAW, so just update to the latest version of the plugin, following the PSE-specific instructions:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
sRAW and mRAW files are not RAWs because the camera has already demosaicked them to RGB and encoded them as lossless JPG.
Here is technical information on the reduce-sized RAWs:

  • Sony a7 mk2 ARW files will not import

I have a Sony RX100 and LR 5.7 imports the ARW files ok, However I've just bought an A7 Mk2 and Lightroom will not import the ARW files from that camera. I've downloaded CameraRaw 8 so I can convert the files first and then import into LR, but it seems strange that I cant import and convert from withing LR itself.

    Mac – http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5856
    Win – http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5857
Use the links above to upgrade to LR 5.7.1 or if you have a Creative Cloud account subscription login to your account and check if there is a button indicating "install" available next to Lightroom and proceed to click the button and install the update.

  • Problem: Importing from DVD to imovie. The DVD mpeg 4 file will not import

I recently purchased ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate. I've successfully managed to rip some files to my desktop. But I'm now having an issue importing 1 particular mpeg 4 file to imovie for editing. I open imovie and locate the mpeg 4 file. Imovie window pops up: Optimizing Video - Processing Event. Nothing happens. Any advice?

First advice: let it run. it may take a while.
Second advice: Check for extra tracks like tween tracks, closed captioning tracks, chapter tracks. iMovie will not import files that have these. It is best to remove these using QuickTime Pro before editing.

  • D800 RAW files will not open in Photoshop CS6

I have just installed the CS6 upgrade to Photoshop CS4 Extended, but now the software will not read the RAW files from my D800.
I have followed Adobe's instructions to check that I have the correct RAW plug-in (7.0.0.308) which I have.  I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled the software without success.  I do not want to convert my RAW files into DNG files, so I have ignored that step.
The 'Open in Photoshop' instruction in Lightroom 4 does not open my D800 RAW files either, although the files can be opened in Lightroom 4 OK.
Any idea what the problem is?

Brilliant!  ACR 7.1 Beta allows D800 RAW files to be opened within CS6 and it also allows Photoshop 4 to open D800 RAW files in Photoshop CS6.
It says that the Beta version will expire on 30/6/2012 after which it will keep advising on a daily basis although it will still work.  Any idea, what happens next?   Does Adobe issue a proper ACR 7.1 and distribute it as part of the update service?

  • RAW files will not open in Elements 8

I downloaded and installed several actions for elements8 this afternoon.  I also downloaded a couple intended for photoshop that were self installing.  I clicked on landscap_and_sky_action_by_fcpr,rar.  I thought It would open and I could install the action like the others.  Apparently, it self-installed as if\t was supposed to( just in the woring program.)  Some little time after that I tried to home a new RAW file downloaded from my camera.  I got the error message, cannot open (file name and full path) because it is the wrong type of file.
I have tried to open the raw files with file open and file open as specifiying that the file is a raw file.
I also tried to open an older RAW file with the same results (previously open before today.)
This is the first time I have had this problem.  I have been using RAW files for the last year and half without any problems.
My best guess is that rar file corrupted a file somewhere, but I have no clue where.
lastly, I uninstalled elements 8 and reinstalled it.  Same problem.  I did note that when uninstalling elements, it does not erase the directories and many of the files.  I have hestiated doing that as I have a massive set of photos in the Organizer, have updated the RAW Camera database (worked fine after that) and added several features (effects) to elements.
    Any suggestions on a fix.
    Ed

I removed the pior ACR and renamed it in case I needed it before installing the new one.  The new one has been working for a year+ without any problems.  This is a brand new problem.
I think I have found the problem.  I installed Optikverve's Vitural Photographer yesterday.  I thought it was a stand alone like the studio.  I found that it installed inside Elements.  That was just prior to Elements starting to refuse to open RAW files.  Everything else (that I have checked ) seems to work fine. That says to me that program is the problem.
I have just finished a negative virus scan on the computer and I am getting ready to back up Organizer to an external hard drive.  I am going then to remove Elements and wipe out out the files and directory structure that remains.  I will then install Elements.  That should put it back at "as new" state.  I will have reinstall the new ACR files and the other addons.  At least, it should work again.  (I hope.)

  • Error message:Won't open an iphoto library file & will not import new pix

I have deleted some files from iPhoto library in an effort to get more disk space. Trying to import from camera. Getting error message that says it cannot open File 2002/01/11. That file has been deleted. Clicked continue and message kept popping up. When download was "complete" it did not show up in last import folder or in main library folder. What am I doing wrong? At least I changed setting to keep photos on camera disk after import. I should warn you that I am not the brightest pea in the pod when it comes to new technology.

Thanks, I KNEW it was something I did. Never had any trouble before.
There is no way I can retrieve the deleted files. Emptied trash many times since then. Camera has been in repair shop for several weeks. And, as you already know, you are correct that I was deleting without iPhoto being launched.
I am using 2.0.1. It's not clever enough to update it's files? And what does that have to do with importing new pix? I have not gotten my 15 page list out to see if the photos I deleted are still in the albums.
In the future, should I delete from the main library? or the album? if I want them permanently gone (while in iPhoto, of course). It was so much easier to delete from a numerical list than to have view the photos, but I will not do that again if it is not good for my application.

  • Sony raw files will not open in PE5.  Help!

I have a Sony alpha 350 DSLR.  When I shoot raw files (.ARW), Photoshop Elelements will not open them.  I get a message that says it's the wrong kind of file.  The Adobe plug-in that came with the camera's software does not work.  I downloaded the most recent Camera Raw plug-in for PE5 from Adobe (4.5), and it does not work.  Adobe customer support told me they no longer service PE5, and sent me to this forum.
How can I get PE5 to open Sony raw files?

Thanks for the quick response.   In Photoshop Elements 5.0, when I click on
the raw file stored on my hard drive, a small message box comes up with a
white X in a red circle and the message "Cannot open
because it is the wrong type of file."
I am not sure if I installed the plug-in correctly.  There were no
directions except how to unzip it and save it to my hard drive.  The icon
shows a blue electrical plug and reads " Camera Raw .8bi, 8BI File, 10,634
KB"  When I click on it, it opens Photoshop Elements, but  it still gives me
the error message when I try to open a raw file.

  • Importing From Excel file will not import assignments correctly where there are more than one assignment per task

I am trying to import an excel file ... see below.   It appears if you select both Tasks and Assignments tables it will not allow you to do this, says file is not in a project recognized format.  So I import Tasks tab first then run the
wizard again and import the assignments tab while selecting merge with project option.   This works with one exception:
If there are more than one assignment per task.  It does not merge in the 2nd assignment, only the first.
Is there a way to import a task with 2 or more assignments?
    Background
To figure out what the format for the file needed to be, I started with a MPP file and from project saved as Excel and selected the "Project Template" file.  Now I am trying to import that XLS to see how it works

    Andrew,
I did a quick test using your example although I didn't include the Predecessor or Outline Level fields to keep things a little simpler. I imported the Excel data into a new Project file with a single import of task and assignment data. It is very important
to set up the Excel Workbook correctly. On Sheet 1 I entered the task data (Name, Duration, Start). I did not include the ID or finish date as that is redundant - Project generates its own ID and will calculate the finish date based on the start date and duration.
On Sheet 2 I entered the assignment data basically just as you show it except I didn't include the Units.
    The data imported as expected.
    John
