Im copying my wedding photos from the SD Card, all the JPEG pictures are transferring as normal but the RAW format pictures we took wont copy over.

Does OS X corrupt files when copying from SD card to desktop?

Using finder to copy a folder and its files from SD card to mac desktop seems to cause *some* files to be corrupted, specifically a handful of MP4 files from a FAT32 SD card which was used in a digital camera. Using a binary/hex comparison tool reveals that some segments of the files contents were modified when copied from the SD card.
This error occurs when copying multiple files using Finder windows. However, when copying the same files one at a time, the corruption does not occur. This appears to be an OS level bug. In reviewing past content, I found that dozens of MP4 files have been corrupted in the past 4 months by merely copying the files from the SD card to mac desktop using Finder copy/paste.
I am using OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3

Well, like I said, the byte size in fact did *not* change. So I'm not even concerned about that. What *did* change is the content of those bytes and it doesn't matter what operating system you are using, the content of those bytes is *not* supposed to change.
Also, like I said before, if I copy the individual file (MP4) insead of the entire folder, and then do the binary/hex comparison, the byte data is identical. i.e.
a) copying one file at a time produces an *identical* file on the HD, i.e. the byte count AND the byte content are precisely the same.
b) copying a folder with multiple files produces a *different* file on the HD, i.e. the byte count is the same BUT the byte content differs from the original file.

Files wont copy from Server via AFP to local Drive

I'm having trouble copying iMovie project files from an xServe to a local drive. I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.9, and what happenes is when I open the mount and find the file, I drag it accross the the users home folder-> movies folder and copy it. Problem is the source file is 3.14 gigs, and when it copys it copys a file thats 997KB is size, everytime and says its done sucsessfully. Obviously the file wont open.
Can anyone Help?

I guess your having some permisssions lingo. iMovie projects are folders that are presented by the Finder as if it were files.

It's just not the type of information Apple gives out. You can go to Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback to let them know you want his camera included. But when that will happen is anyone's guess.
One strategy you can use for the time being is to shoot RAW + JPG (assuming the camera has this mode) and import both as a RAW+JPG pair making the JPG the master. Then when the RAW support comes out you can switch and make the RAW the master and process the file.
There are other ways to deal with this until the camera is supported. Post back for more info.

Can't open raw format files in photoshop elements 3.0

I'm sure this question has been posed here 1,000 times already, and I've just spent over an hour surfing the web, using adobe on-line support, etc. -- too much to sift through, and none of it giving me a simple answer.
So here's the question:
- Using Windows XP
- I have a Nikon D40
- Photoshop Elements 3.0
- 2.3 Camera Raw Plug In
From what I am able to gather, I SHOULD be able to open raw format files using PE 3.0, but I get the various error messages:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
Am I missing some sort of simple step before I start downloading plug-ins I don't need and messing up all the settings on my computer? Any help would be appreciated, and once again, apologies if I'm repeating a question that's been asked a million times before.

Support for the Nikon D40 was added in Camera Raw version 3.7. So you would need Photoshop Elements 4.0 or later to be able to use that.
To use your version you may need to download the free DNG converter from http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ and convert your D40 files from NEF to DNG.

I can't import Sony Alpha 5100 raw format files

Hello experts,
I tried to import raw format files from SONY Alpha 5100 (ILCE-5100) but never worked while it did when I tried with Alpha 5000. I checked with SONY customer support and was told that RAW format is exactly the same between 5000 and 5100, which is SONY ARW 2.3.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Or do i have to wait until Apple will update iPhoto?

We are just users like yourself here and have no idea what's coming down the pike at a later date.
You might see if the Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh is compatible with your camera. If it is you can use it use it to convert your RAW files to DMG files which iPhoto can import until support by Apple is released.

There is already the jpg, bmp and png format reader function, but what about .raw?

Photoshop Elements 9 won't open blank files or copy from clipboard

PE9 for Macwon't open blank files or "copy from clipboard." I get error messages that say, "Could not complete the command because of a problem using the Adobe color engine," when I try to create a new blank file, and "Could not place because of a program error" when trying to "copy from clipboard." I tried reinstalling the software, but that didn't help.

LIghtrroom 1.1 problem 1 & 2 importing-copying from CF cards (raw)

Hi.
With Lightroom 1.0 I didn't had this problem, but since I updated to 1.1 and Im importing from CF cards (raw files) and this is very darn often, Lightroom comes up with problems either 1 or two and its not able to copy 1, 2, or 3 files. But if I try to import again those missing files it does import them! And this is very annoying because I have to go one by one to see which one (s) it missed!
And much worst sometimes it doesn't read a big chunk of files. It shows that it found lets say 100 raw files and shows them in the import text box, when the finder (Mac OSX 10.4.10), camera, and other software its showing me the real 130 files.
Also, sometimes I select some of the images I want to import in that dialog box, and it imports some random ones. This has happend a few times. And when I try it again and it selects the same random ones even if a choose a completely different set of images.
Whats going on? I didn't install any new software/hardware to my MacBookPro computer but the Lightroom Update!
Please help Lightroom is killing me!

I've seen Lightroom (1.0) fail to import all images from a card reader, that otherwise works fine (I've never had a single problem just copying the entire DCIM folder from the card to my hard drive using the Finder). This was mitigated somewhat by Lightroom's duplicate detection; I'd say "import my memory card" and it would get 90% of it but miss a couple (and no easy way to select the ones it missed). But then I just say "import the whole thing again" and it would do only the ones it had missed the first time. Repeat until it got no errors, which sometimes took 3 or 4 passes.
The whole thing was not very confidence-inspiring though, so now I always copy the files from the card to where I want them, then tell Lightroom to import them at their current location, and I haven't had any problems doing that.

Photodownloader - Error in sequencing files copied from CF Card

I'm a relatively new user of Bridge and the Photodownloader there (although I've used Elements and it appears to be very similar). I've noticed that when I copy files from my CF card (from nikon 300s) that the sequence of the file names on the CF card does not identically match the sequence of the files that are copied to my PC.
I noticed the issue when working with sports photos. The sequence that ACR was presesnting to me was wrong in some instances. In the two I checked it was the same type of error. Pictures that were in 1-2-3 seqence on the CF card were in 3-1-2 sequence after copying. The sequence on the CF card was correct. It does not do it all the time, but seems to be in shots that were shot in faster sequence.
There doesn't seem to be much to mess up with the settings. I tell it to rename to a custom name + date + sequence # (usually starting with 1).
Has anyone else run into this? Is it a bug in Photodownloader? Am I doing something wrong?

I use all the features of Bridge CS4 (except that one) and love it!
Vista has a useful import module but I don't know if it would suit your purposes.
Then again most cameras come with some facility for this too.
With CS5 getting closer I doubt whether the downloader will ever be fixed.

Importing RAW format files into iPhoto 08

I searched the back catologue and couldn't find any refs so hopefully this is a valid new post.
I use iPhoto 08 on an iMac and have always worked with importing jpegs from my cheap but faithful old camera. I now have a nice sexy (& expensive) new camera & can take pictures in RAW format for increased quality. IPhotos tutorials say that it supports RAW but everytime I try to import some files I get a "could not import file" message against the RAW files. My camera automatically takes a duplicate jpeg each time I make a RAW exposure and they import without any problems. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Many thanks. Steve

What camera is it?
The Raw from every camera model is different - note that's camera Model, not brand - and has to be supported separately. So, the Raw from a Nikon D3 is not the same as the Raw from a Nikon D3s and so on - even though they both produce files with a NEF extension. Same with Canon and it's CR2 files and so on.
Raw support can also depend the OS and version of iPhoto that you have.

I know how important it is to have your contacts. This device will not have the option to import contacts off an SD card. How to open files (NOT copy) from external hard drive

Hello there,
I have a Western Digital My Passport external harddrive. I bought the hard drive so I could take stuff like my music off my laptop harddrive, free up space and make it run smoother.
Problem is, every time I select a music file on the ex harddrive to play in itunes, the file is copied to the laptop harddrive! Completely defeats the purpose.
Does anyone know how to stop my laptop from copying music files and just get it to play files from the external hard drive? I have looked and looked but to no avail - this is my first Mac and it is the one issue that really bugs me.
Any help will be much appreciated!
N.B. it doesn't seem to do this with other file types (documents etc.) just music files/files supported by itunes.

How are you selecting the music files? I have my entire music library on an external drive. If you go to preferences in iTunes, their is an option to select where your music library resides. I think it is under advance but I'm not sure since I don't have access to my mac.
