RAW format images

I am having problems displaying RAW format images in Aperture, they turn almost monochrome dark green after fully loading. Have seen a few postings on mac blog sites but no answers to the problem, so its not just me ! iPhoto does not have this problem.
Someone please help ! don't want to have to buy another app.

Impossible to help without knowing the camera model producing these images.

I am STILL having problems displaying RAW format images in Aperture 3.1.2, they turn almost monochrome dark green after fully loading. No one seems to have an answer. Have seen a few postings on mac blog sites but no answers to the problem, so its not just me ! iPhoto does not have this problem, but would like to use the other editing facilities on Aperture. Am using a Sony A550, which IS on the Apple list of supported cameras !
Don't want to have to buy yet another photo editing software.

That definitely sounds like a bug, but I don't use that camera to be able to have a second (or is it third? ) verification of the problem.
Have you checked the console log to see if Aperture is choking on something? Not sure you'd be able to do anything with that information, but it might lead somewhere.
Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is including your camera model and "RAW" in the subject of a new post. I'm pretty sure the problem is with your camera's RAW format, as opposed to being a general Aperture problem. Maybe a more direct query would help get a better answer?

  • When I edit my RAW format images I cannot find the resulting jpeg image in my IPhoto library

When I edit my RAW images (.neff format) I cannot the resulting jpeg image in my IPhoto 11 library.

Thanks. So it is probably worth upgrading to Aperture?
And you say that because? While Aperture has more features and more capabilities than iPhoto - especially in working with RAW - this is not one - depending on what yo do with previews in Aperture it may be even more difficult to use the edited photos incorrectly - iPhoto is simple - just correctly access the edited photo as TD suggested
To access the resulting jpeg you can export in any format except Original, drag to the desktop or use a media browser
    Same same for Aperture

  • Problems reading RAW format after update 6.03

I have problems reading RAW format images into Iphoto 9.6 after update 6.03 or maybe earlier updates (have not imported for a few months). The images show up like half, black or partly distorted. I use a Canon 5D mk2 camera. The images looks okey when read into a PC so I don´t think it is the camera or cables. It has been working very good before! I use a Powerbook pro 13 late 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.1.

Try downgrading back to 6.02 by following the directions in this post by léonie:

Make a backup of your system and try to downgrade the RAW support to version 6.01
To downgrade the RAW Support to the last version from before the last update try this:
To reinstall the 'RAW Compatibility Update' it is necessary to uninstall the currently installed raw support. Otherwise the installer will rightfully say, that you already have the latest version installed.
If your tests are showing that the problem happens also in a different user account, try this:
The RAW support files are installed in the System Library in the folder "/System/Library/CoreServices" Folder:
To open this folder, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Click the smiling Finder icon in the Dock to bring the Finder forward.
Then type the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G  (for "Finder > Go > Go to folder")  and copy and paste "/System/Library/CoreServices" into the text field. Click the "Go" button.
In the Finder window that will open, delete both the files "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle". You will have to enter your Administrator password. (don't empty the Trash, so you can put the files back, if need be)
Download the current RAW support update from Apple's Support Site:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1777?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In the Downloads folder you will find the disk image with the installer. Double click it to open and run and the installer.
    Then restart your Mac.

  • Just purchased Nikon D610. tried to import 3 images and got this message: The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. How do I fix this frustrating problem. Have been using Lightroom for years also Nikon products without any prior

How do I import images. Have a message that says: The files are not recognized by the raw format suppot in Lightroom. Am using a Mac version 10.9.4. the import is from a new Nikon D610. Am using LR 4.4 Please help Adobe is useless as a support.

Each camera must be supported explicity and your LR version is years older than your camera.
According to Adobe's Camera-support page, you need at least LR 5.3 to work with your D610 NEFs in LR:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
If you don't want to upgrade to LR 5, or can't due to your OS being too old, then it might work to use the latest DNG Converter and create DNGs from your NEFs, which should open in LR 4.x.  You can find the DNG Converter here:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates

I Just converted my iPhoto library to Photos. Now I can't find my RAW files. I need to have all the images in my old library show up in their RAW format.

Unfortunately no - Photos use extensions and the vendor (adobe) will have to implement the extension to allow external edits in PS or PSE
For now you must export the photo, edit and then import - not great but a work arond
And you can continue to use iPhoto until Photos meets your needs - launch it in your applications folder - if you need assistance on this see Why won't my iPhotos open?

  • What raw raster image format in pdf ?

    hello,
I understood  from "image xobject in pdf" question from bokhandbok that  an xobject image can be either a jpeg  or a raw raster  format.
But to me,  raw is not a standardized format like DNG or tiff/ep are.
so, where can i find a description of the raw raster image format of the pdf ?
is it related to any existing norms like iso 12234-2, dng, etc.
if not, where can i find a description of this format ?
    thanks a lot,
    denis

No, an image expects raw bitmap data in the format defined by the PDF Reference.
However, an image is stored as a stream, and a stream can have a filter applied. There are many possible filters and one is DCTDecode, which roughly corresponds to a "JPEG file".
So, an image with JPEG file data and the DCTDecode filter can work.
"Raw" is a convenient way to talk about "uncompressed image data" but you are right that it is not a standard. Fortunately, PDF is well standardised and precisely described in ISO 32000-1.

  • EOD350D/ Digital Rebel raw - unsupported image format ?????

From the raw tech spec page:
Supporting the RAW formats from all leading digital camera manufacturers (including Canon and Nikon), Aperture provides optimized support for such market leading cameras as the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II, Canon EOS 20D, and Nikon D2x as well as the highly popular Canon Digital Rebel and Nikon D50. It also supports the Adobe DNG format.
    URL: http://www.apple.com/aperture/raw/
Well, I must be doing something wrong. Ik can see the thumbnails, but once imported I always get 'Unsupported Image Format'.... This is what most aften see in Aperture. I must be overlooking things....

Ok, messing around in the raw.plist fixed this. Is not an Aperture issue, more an OS X 10.4.3 issue --> http://minimal.cx/2005/11/01/make-os-x-1043-understand-canon-eos-350d-raw-files/

  • Can LabVIEW process images in RAW format? Can LabVIEW handle images in the multimegapixel formats produced by some of the current DSLR cameras (e.g. 5000x3500 pixels)?

Can LabVIEW process images in RAW format?  Can LabVIEW handle images in the multimegapixel formats produced by some of the current DSLR cameras (e.g. 5000x3500 pixels)?
Can LabVIEW be programmed to remotely acquire images from a commercial DSLR camera with DirectShow capability?  e.g. Canon Rebel T2i.

    1) So RAW files have a multitude of possible file extensions / formats, and it depends on which of these extensions you use. If the image can fit in memory, it can be brought into LabVIEW. An image of that size should be able to come into LabVIEW. Are you considering using NI-Vision to do this? You would look into the VI called "IMAQ ReadFile." There are a certain set of standard formats that can be read.
    2) If a camera is DirectShow capable, and there are USB drivers available to access that camera through a Windows machine, then you should be able to bring that camera up in NI's software such as LabVIEW.

  • Ios 8 - issue to transfer images in raw format

since i have upgraded my ipad 2 with retina (buyed in 2012) with ios 8, i can't transfer, by image capture, photo in raw format to my mac book (with yosemite now). Before the ios8 upgrade i was usually to transfer my pictures in both format .jpg e .raw from my camera to ipad, and in a second time transfered them to my PC by "Image Capture" app (or like)
Now "Image Capture"  at the end display a message with error on .raw pictures,  on ipad I continue to see the images with .raw format but I can't transfer them. The only way to do that is:  unplug and re-plug the ipad on my macbook, the images now appears with .jpg format, and I can transfer them, but i have to change on my PC the extensions to come back in raw format.
Is there a way to resolve that, have somebody the same issue?
    thanks for help

  • Nikon D5000 RAW "Unsupported Image Format"

Well here's another one for the Unsupported Image Format category. I just received a Nikon D5000 took a hundred or two shots in RAW format only to find after importing them to Aperture a row of thumbnails. Now if only after clicking on a thumbnail for viewing it displayed the image and not "Unsupported Image Format".

all set with adobe raw 5.4, i grabbed the converter because the plugin is a p.i.t.a. and the installer isn't very friendly if you delete the plugin and try to start over. available from the labs at: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/CameraRaw5.4
i wouldnt expect apple to add compatibility till 10.5.8. its a big name and soon to be popular machine. so i would bet on it. but when that comes, id also bet to be a long time from now.

  • Lightroom 5 cannot export files in original Raw format (LR 5.4, Mac, OS 10.9.4).

A client has the following problem: When trying to export files in the original Raw format (.CR2), the operation failed and a dialog informs us that "Some export operations were not performed". We can export JPEGs just fine.
After lots of testing, this is what we discovered:  The problem does not appear to be catalog-based; we run into the same problem using a test catalog.  The export operation works fine, however, with the same test catalog and images on two other machines, and it even works fine on the same machine with a new user admin account that we created.
So it appears to be something associated with the user account, , or with how LR is interacting with the user account, but I cannot figure out what it might be. We can copy the Raw files when using the Finder to do so. But not via Lightroom.  Any thoughts, ideas of suggestion would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks, Sean

As part of your testing make sure you've tried exporting JPGs from the same folder as the CR2s you're exporting as original, and export JPGs from CR2s to the same folder as you're exporting your originals.  This would test LR's read and write permissions from and to the folders being used.
From this document you can see that all the LR files other than the program, are under the /Users folder with different values possible for each user, so the difference could be that the users that work are using the original LR defaults, if you have just started using LR with them after you started having this problem, or at least that the user with the problem has some oddball settings that are interfering with Export as Original.
Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5
You can test for the Preferences being off by either copying the preferences from a user that has the problem to a user that doesn't have the problem--probably through an external or common folder, or be deleting the preferences file from the user that has the problem and see if it resolves.  Moving the preferences file or renaming it may be better than deleting it if no change is seen, then you can restore the preferences back by moving or renaming the file back to the original location and name.

  • Reading Camera Raw Format

I'm a user of Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 runiing the current version of each.  I signed up for Creative Cloud and have downloaded and installed Photoshop CC.  I have not downloaded and installed Lightroom from CC as I understand it is the exact same product as the standalone version.
My question is - everytime I take a photo (DNG) from Lightroom and click to edit it in Photoshop CC - Photoshop CC opens a dialog box that says 'Reading Camera Raw Format'  That didn't happen when I opened images in CS6.  What causes this and how do I fix it?
I have checked with a friend who also converted to Photoshop CC and he does not get that dialog (he is running Windows and I'm on a Mac)?

Since you say you are up-to-date with LR an PS, this suggests you are using LR 5.2 and PS-CC/ACR 8.2.
Whenever the versions of LR and ACR are compatible, then LR tells PS to open the raw file using LR’s settings, and PS uses the ACR plug-in to open the raw file with those settings.
The message occurs when the time it takes to render the raw file on the way into PS longer than a certain amount of time.
If your LR and CS6-ACR were up-to-date and you weren’t seeing the message, then perhaps something was slightly faster with those two products, and the message wasn’t displayed, or perhaps PS-CC’s time-limit for showing that message was made a shorter amount of time.
If your LR and CS6-ACR weren’t synchronized in their versions (e.g. LR 5.2 and CS6-ACF 7.1) then LR could have been rendering the file as a TIF or PSD so PS isn’t using ACR to render the file.
As far as LR-non-CC and LR-CC being the same.  They operate on images files the same, the real difference will occur with LR 6, which you won’t have to pay extra for if you’re using the CC version.
There isn’t any reason to download and install LR-CC 5.2 when you already have the regular LR 5.2, but once LR 5.3 comes out, you might as well let CC download and install it, so you won’t have to worry about it, later.  It may be that you’ll have to uninstall LR non-CC 5.2, but perhaps that has been changed in recent updates of the CC Manager app or will be when LR 5.3 is release in the next few weeks.

  • My lightroom 4 will not import my files from my compact flash card . It has been working for years with out fail but now there is no import previews and it says the files are not recognized by raw format support in LR

I have lightroom 4 I've had it for years and it has imported my raw files from my CF card without issue . Now when I plug in my CF card to import new files it says import operations not performed and there are no image previews . When I continue by hitting "import" I get a pop up window that states "the files are not recognized by raw format support in Light Room"

Don't feel too bad.  If the D4S has as many menus and custom functions as my Canon 5D Mark iii its easy to get messed up.
If you downloaded from the link I gave you it will be Lr 5.4.   The link was just to show you when the D4S was supported.  The newest version is 5.7.1 and can be downloaded here.  Don't know your OS so you will have to pick Windows or Mac.   Product updates
On my Mac I just run the downloaded installer program (its a full version and not an small update) and it installs the new version and erases the old version.  If you are on Windows you will have to get help from a windows person.
