RAW image files

Thank you in advance for your input.
I am curious if the MYcloud has the ability to save RAW image files from my digital camera? I have created folders but when I move them they become JPEG format. I understand the reasoning (so Myphoto app works) but is there a way to save the RAW image too so I can edit the photo at a later time?
MacBook Pro 2012
mycloud 4TB
Thank you!

Thank you JAC70. So from my MacBook Pro I drag and drop from the folder I have my raw images saved into finder/WdMYCloud/"the folder I named for the images"?
I am not trying to take them from my iphone to the my photo app, just from the hard drive on my MacBook to the folder I have created on MyCloud.
Sorry, I just want to be sure I am following your instruction.
Thanks again!

  • Postworking B/W RAW image file...

Hi, I am not sure that this is the right forum. Forgive me if it is not and please help me, if you can.
    Okay, that's the problem>
I have a B/W RAW image file and I would like to leave it B/W with one exception. One object in the image should have it's original color (red), while the rest is still b/w.
How do I do this? Do I need some plug ins or is it just plain easy and I'm just asking a stupid question? I never worked with RAW formats before...
    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Lu.

From a Nikon point of view, a Nikon Raw file even taken in BW mode on the
camera will have all of the color information still intact.
Conversely, if you have the original color Raw image you can convert it to
    B&W.
If you are using Nikon Capture NX, you can use the lasso, or selection tool
to outline the object you want to be red and bring the color info back in.
Or invert the selection and do the color to B&W conversion.
If you're using Camera Raw in Photoshop, there doesn't appear to be a lasso
or selection tool. Save the image as a tif or jpg in color, then perform
    the operation in Photoshop.
If you are using Canon or other camera or software, this may or may not
apply. I have no experience there.

  • Read the raw image file

I want to read the raw image file , i have the basic labview 8.0 version

That is a broad question... I'll make some asumptions.
I think you have a file with some raw image format. This can be quite a few formats. Every camera firm has it's own proprietry format. Often, when talking about a raw image, it is simply a 2d array of colors. So you'll have a file with numbers that are U8's that represent R G B, alpha R G B, B G R, etc., or a U32 that represent the same, combined in one U32...
The data can be stored binary or ASCII. Both formats are handled differently.
The ASCII format can be one large array of data, or seperated with enters for each scan line.
In both cases, you might need to remove information, like height and width, from the data before parsing the image data.
You can use the "Spreadsheet String To Array" to convert the a ASCII string to a LabVIEW 1D or 2D array. Or use "Read From Spreadsheet File.vi" to read the file directly as an array. Use Reshape Array to convert a 1D array to a 2D array.
The binary file is a bit different. Use "Read Binary File". It will get you a string. This string is a converted array of U8, the string doesn't need to be ASCII. convert this string to an array of U8's, with "String To Byte Array". Convert the 1D array just like before.
Now you have a 2D array. You can convert it into a pixmap with "Flatten Pixmap.vi". You can then display it in a picture control with "Draw Flattened Pixmap.vi".

  • How can I take raw image files with my iPhone?

I want raw image files from my iPhone so that I can process them with ACR.

The phone only works in one resolution. You cannot reduce it. The back camera has a higher resolution than the front camera. That is in the specifications. You can check the camera information in the User Guide here. http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf

  • I cannot open Nikon D800 RAW image files in lightoom 2

I cannot open Nikon D800 RAW image files in lightoom 2.  My raw files will not import into lightroom (it imports jpegs, but not the RAW files) I am using Lightroom 2, version 2.7, camera Raw 5.7. Can you help?

I would highly recommend upgrading to Lightroom 4 as the processing engine is a quantum leap ahead from Lr 2 just as your camera is a leap ahead!!
p.s.  you can upgrade directly fro 2 to 4.

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/processing-camera-raw-image-files.html

    gegjr wrote:
When I selected "Save Image" there is an option to select the size of the JPEG preview. Is there anyway to extract the JPEG and does the JPEG contain the adjustments that were made to the Raw image?
The "Save image" command just saves (really converts) the original raw into another raw format : the DNG format created by Adobe to get a universal raw format instead of a specific raw format for each camera in the range of each camera manufacters... Using that feature is your choice.
And what you see in the bottom line : 8 bits or 16 bits has nothing to do with a preview, it is the choice of 'color depth' for the image the converters sends to the editor.
So, your choice is either :
    - to click 'Done' which saves the settings of your conversion (white balance, exposure, clarity...) to a very small 'sidecar' file of the xmp type
    - to 'Open' in the editor where you can work with all features of the editor (which include saving the output file in any format - jpeg - psd - tiff - png...

  • Where do RAW image file go when importing images into iPhoto?

I've imported images from my camera card into iPhoto but I want to have access to the RAW files format. I was given the option of erasing the data from the card after import but luckily I opted to not erase because I can't seem to find the RAW images on the computer. Does iPhoto not import RAW image files? I want the RAW file format for obvious reasons.

By default all imported photos are copied into the iPhoto library. To edit them in an external editor check the box in the iPhoto preferences to use RAW with external editors or export the photo with kind = original

  • Can the iPad display RAW image files?

I know you can import RAW image files from a camera to the iPad.  Will the iPad be able to display the RAW image files?

    1) No you can't sync PDFs (Yes I know, this really annoys me too) I can sync and view a 700mb movie but can't sync and view a 1mb PDF, go figure. The only way I have found to save a PDF is to make a folder in my .Mac account then place an email with a PDF attachment into this folder. Now when you open it in Mail you can only view it in Portrait View (Vertical). So trying to read a PDF is almost impossible unless you enlarge it to the point where half the page is off the screen. Yea this phone has PDF support, but the worst, most limited support imaginable.
    2) Nope, you can't save PDFs from Safari (Or save anything else for that matter.)

LR 5.6 doesn't support the new Nikon D750. You have to wait to the next update.
You con also install the release candidate of the DNG converter and convert your NEF files to dng.

  • Managing RAW image Files on several machines

I am a new user of Lightroom, purchased three weeks ago, and trying to switch from Aperture, which doesn't support my newest addition to my equipment, the Canon G9 RAW files. I feel resonably comfortable after these weeks with LR's basic concept's, with the exception of how it manages files. I just don't get it after going through the FAQ and the online help resources, and trying to slug it out with Martin Evening's book on LR from Adobe.
I have several hundred Gb of RAW images from a variety of sources. I need to be able to read and manage LR from two different machines, my MacBook Pro and my Mac Pro. I also need to be able to manipulate the images in various folders. My images are now contained in folders on an external drive(s). I need to keep the RAW original images for future access, keep the LR image information so it can be read by different machines, and be confident of neither losing the original RAW files nor losing the metadata and LR image edits. I want to keep all of the image information on external drives that can be accessed by physically connecting them to one of the two machines.
I think my problem is in not understanding the concepts in LR of a "library", a "catalog" and a "collection", nor understanding how to manage the images using these concepts.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

    William,
Lightroom cannot modify the image portion of a RAW file, although sometimes the image metadata can get modified. Here is a thread where Chris Birchall and I explain that in detail:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c0331a6/13
Regarding workflow, Larry brings up a good point. Lightroom overall is a fantastic ver.1 product, it truly is. The printing functionality needs beefing up and this multi-user multi-copy situation can be troublesome.
If you use only one external hard drive then the method I described above might work fine. Things I'd do if I was running such a setup:
--Use 2 folders, one named Lightroom and one named Photos, on each machine and on the external drive. Store the Lightroom catalog, folders, etc. under the Lightroom folder. Make all subdirectories/subfolders under the main Photos folder as needed for your photos.
--Do not import your photos into LR's database, import them in place and leave them as-is on the disk. A metadata-only catalog file size will be much smaller than a database containing 1000s of photos and will copy much faster.
--Back up your Lightroom directory after every working session.
--Back up your Photos directory any time you add new photos or rearrange the directories/subfolders so all 3 directory structures and contents (laptop, desktop, external drive) are always identical. Since your main LR catalog is on your external disk, your backup can be the copy on your laptop or desktop.
--Keep the copies straight in your mind (harder than it sounds).
--Try to name your on-disk folders as close to your Collections names as practical. A bit more work but makes things easier to find and makes deleting photos easier. You cannot delete while in a Collection, hopefully they'll fix that.... Anyway, when your Collection and Folders names are way out of sync it can be a hassle to track down where that Collection photo is on-disk if you want to delete it.....
One area that might get out of sync is when you want to delete photos from your disk. It's easy to add new photos to your backup machines but not easy to delete them everywhere.... In that case you might sometimes want to delete a folder/subfolder and re-copy the whole thing.
    Cheers,
    Robert

  • IPhoto 7.1 won't import .CR2 (RAW) image files

I'm shooting with a Canon 30D, and had no problem importing RAW images (.CR2 files) into iPhoto 08. However, after installing the update for iPhoto 7.1, I get an error message saying that the .CR2 file type isn't recognized. What the ****?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

My understanding is that iPhoto is able to read RAW files that the underlying OS can handle (which is why you see updated RAW compatibility added with various OS updates).
    I have a 30D and have upgraded to 7.1
I just opened a folder of CR2 files and dragged and dropped into iPhoto and they imported fine. I have not tried downloading direct from camera as I tend to copy things over using a card reader.
So, in terms of troubleshooting, I suggest:
1 - can you see open the CR2 using preview? If not sounds like an OS issue.
2 - can you see thumbnails of the CR2 if they're in a folder somewhere? If not consider if the CR2 are corrupted.
3 - If no to 2, then can you open the images using other (Canon) software?
If yes to 1 and 2, the it's likely to be an iPhoto issue.

  • Exporting only xmp information and not the RAW image file

Hi. I am using Lightroom 3. I imported RAW files from an extrenal disc and then worked on files adjusting the images. Is it possible for me just to export the xmp file instead of exporting all the RAW images again to my external hard drive?  I assume the xmp has all the adjustments that I have made to the image? Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks

I tried control s  and I assume that is for a windows machine as nothing happens on a mac. I did forget to say that I am using a mac. thanks again.
