RAW images seem yellowish in Camera RAW/CS4

I'm a newb to photography, so I apologize if this is entry level stuff.
I shoot with a Canon 40D - JPG + RAW - and when I open my RAW images with Camera RAW through Adobe Bridge CS4, it appears that they more more yellow than the JPGs out of the camera.  I have noticed this in my prints as well, and it has been bugging me.  I'm not sure what would be causing this.
Below I have included links to a test picture - the first image is the JPG out of the camera, and the second image is the RAW image with no adjustments, converted to JPG.
JPG out of camera - http://www.highlandhoops.com/Portals/0/IMG_8223.JPG
JPG converted from RAW (more yellow-ish) - http://www.highlandhoops.com/Portals/0/IMG_8223_A.JPG
Any help would be appeciated!  I would love for the RAW images to match the output of the JPGs, so I don't have to worry about fixing that first everytime.  If you need more info, please let me know.  Thanks

Usually, overall yellow/warm casts can be easily and quickly reduce or
eliminated by bumping the White Balance's Temperature slider down a little
bit (e.g., from 4500 K to 4300 K).
Eric
Jim, thanks for your reply.  I think this will help me.  I also upgraded to
Camera RAW 5.4, and there appear to be some more profile options, such as
Adobe Standard.  It looks like this works pretty well.  I will have to do some
more testing at a later time with the CR defaults as well.

  • I am unable to import raw images into elements 11 camera raw from my panasonic lumix 200

I am unable to import raw files to E11 from my Panasonic Lumix 200. I get a response that says "nothing imported - no supportive file types" also "can't complete request as file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by installed version of Camera raw". I think I understand that I need at least a 7.2 version and don't know what I have.  The camera is a fairly recent model.

I'm new to all of this and didn't know to look further down the menu. I started browsing under help and found how to register the product which I hadn't done and have been thinking that was the root of the problem. Turns out with your suggestion to get me started I was right - I hope, haven't tested it yet. I had 6.4 It is still running.

  • Overexposed image saved in new Camera Raw 7

I took an image (Camera raw format)  that was shot of a colorful tree last year, but overexposed; the sky was white. I edited it with camera raw in Photoshop CS5  and, then, cleared the settings in the Bridge and did it with Photoshop CS6 and camera raw 7. The difference was unbelievable. A few minutes in the new Camera Raw 7 and it was workable. I never got the image even satisfactory at all in Photoshop CS5 Camera Raw. This version of camera raw  really works well with over-exposed images.

    Hello,
I got a new camera and Photoshop and Lightroom won't open Raw images with my new Camera Canon 6D help! I use Photoshop CS5 extended version. and Lightroom 3

    Good news and bad news:
The bad news is that you need CS6 or higher to open 6D RAWs. (The 6D didn't get support until Camera Raw 7.3; 7.0 premiered in CS6.) You can choose to upgrade (I'd recommend skipping CS6 and go straight for CC 2014 for $10/month) *OR*...
...the good news is that the DNG Converter can help you convert your RAWs into DNGs for use in CS5 and Lightroom 3.

I recently switched from a Canon Rebel XT to a Canon Rebel T1i. I have Elements 6.0 and was able to see RAW images with my old camera. you need at least ACR 5.4 for your T1i/500D
ACR 5.6 and therefore earlier versions work on PSE 6.
You should upgrade your PSE 6 to ACR 5.6; it does work on PSE 6 at least in WIndows. I know because ACR 5.6 works on my PSE 6 under Windows Vista.

  • Preference for Processing RAW in LR or PS Camera Raw

I'm not finding this setting anywhere, and it seems to arbitrarily go back and forth, after updating software or installing software. Hoping someone can help.
When using an external editor (PS CS5) to edit photos from Lightroom 3, there is an inital preference to select whether to use ACR in PS to process the raw file, or to use LR.  I always want to do this in PS.  There's often times where I'm compositing multiple photos.  I only need to open up that raw file to quickly grab a section of it to move into another file.  I don't want to save the raw file as a psd, tif or whatever, just select, copy and move that section of the file and then close it.
The problem is that preference setting is only when you first set up the Lightroom, I'm not seeing it anywhere on any of the preference menus.  And for some reason, it has switched to processing the raw in Lightroom.  So now i'm ending up with useless psd files.  That takes up space on my hard drive, takes longer to archive on to external hard drives, and is slower to open the files into PS.  It may seem like a small inconvenience, but when shooting 1000s, or 10000s of images a week it adds up quickly.  And to get rid of them, i have to reveal in finder, then delete, then remove from catalog in LR - which just wastes time.
Am i missing something? If anyone knows how to set this or a workaround i'd love to hear it.

PS CS5 (12.0.4) and also the newest prerelease (can't disclose much on this)
LR and PS are both great in their own right, and do things better than the other in some situations, I wish Adobe would make them play nicer together.

Re: Preference for Processing RAW in LR or PS Camera Raw
In any event even if you choose to edit the original in PS, as I believe you should be able to do you will still end up with a Tiff, PSD or jpeg file when you have finished your work in PS. Then why are you using Lightroom? This will have a bearing on the advice you will get.
Like I said above, LR and PS both serve specific functions, and yes they do overlap in some areas, and I yes do use both in my workflow.  PS isn't a cataloging program.  LR doens't have layers and sucks at complex editing tasks.  There's 2 reasons i use both, amoung many many others.
The point of my question is that i don't want LR creating and saving PSD files on my hard drive when i don't need a PSD of that specific photo.  You use to be able to make LR open a raw file in PS and use ACR to processs it.  That meant you could close the raw file in Photoshop, and nowhere along the way was a PSD file, or any other file saved.

Sorry, I am on a MAC. I downloaded the link you provided and it's giving the same error message as above. Running CS5.
The error message you gave is from Camera Raw. I thought you said that DNG Converter didn't work?
The link I gave you is an article on getting your raw files to open in Camera Raw. Did you read it? I lazily gave you the link because this is one of the most common problems in this forum, and I get tired of saying the same thing over and over again. I could break it down for your specific case, but I was hoping you could read through the article and work it out for yourself.
    But, here goes:
Your cameras are newer than your raw converter, so it won't understand them.
CS5 comes with Camera Raw 6, which can only be upgraded as far as 6.7.1. You can find out which version of Camera Raw you are running in three ways: in the settings title bar (Cmd-K), in the plug-in title bar (press F to start/stop full-screen mode to reveal the title bar), or Photoshop's Help menu (About Plug-ins).
Downloading raw files from newer Nikon cameras with old versions of Nikon Transfer will actually make them unreadable in Adobe software. They can be fixed with a free utility. Again, it's all in the linked article. You should be using up-to-date Nikon Transfer, or Adobe Photodownloader to avoid this problem.
All being well, you have good raw files on your computer. You can convert them to dng using Adobe DNG Converter. IF you are on OSX Leopard or Snow Leopard, you CAN'T use the latest version, because Adobe stopped support. But, if you ARE on a later OSX, you can download DNG Converter 8.6.
DNG Converter is designed to convert FOLDERS of raw files at a time. You select a folder of raw files, and tell it to create DNG copies. BUT, you have to set up the converter before you start using it...
If you load up DNG Converter, you'll notice a button labelled "Change Preferences". Clicking this, you'll see the first option is "Compatibility". Here, you must select the appropriate setting for the version of Camera Raw you HAVE (see above). If you can't work this out, just pick "Camera Raw 5.4 and later". THEN pick a folder of raw files and convert them to DNGs.
All the above is already in the article, but I gave you a personalised response. If you still can't get it to work, please give us more than one sentence. Tell us exactly what you tried, and describe exactly what happened. Which version of OSX you're running, what device and software you downloaded your raw files with, how you used DNG Converter, and so on.
I really should be in bed.

  • Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw Update for Photoshop CS5. I have a pc.

Please Help? Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw update. I have a pc.

If the camera is fairly new then the version of ACR you have with CS5 won't be able to read those file. You'll need to upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop or use Lightroom 5.
Once a new version of Photoshop comes out Adobe does not support updating ACR from the older version of PS.

  • Using Photoshop CC I cannot save images to folder from Camera Raw as Tif. I get message 'write permission error'. I am using Widows 7 Professional.

I have just changed to Photoshop CC from CS4 and cannot now save images from Camera Raw. I get message 'write permission error'. I assume there is some permissions setting which did not exist with CS4.
I cannot progress unless I revert to CS4. What am I failing to do?

See if the suggestions, here, help, although this was back with CS6-cloud, not CC, so may not apply 100%:

I'd suggest that rather than deleting the file, you move it out of the folder to somewhere else, in case things get worse and you need to put it back.
I found this by Googling the error message.
If you can't figure it out, you might post in the "Downloading, Installing and Set Up" or "Adobe Creative Cloud" forums  since it seems to be related to the Cloud updates, and not necessarily ACR plug-in functionality, and I've seen India support people actually tackle problems posted there, which rarely happens in the ACR forum, although an ACR engineer may sometimes pop in to answer questions, they'd be less likely to know how to fix deployment issues.

  • What is the optimum core configuration for a new Mac Pro to process and manipulate very large (80 megapixel) images using PhotoShop and Camera Raw?

    Hello:
I will be using creative techniques to process and manipulate a large number (hundreds) of very large (80 megapixel) images captured using a medium format digital back (Phase One IQ180).
Final output will be digital fine art imagery printed using an Epson 11880 at large sizes (up to 60 inches x ?), retaining the highest possible quality and resolution. I will be using Adobe CC PhotoShop and Camera RAW as well as Capture One software. PhotoShop filters will be used extensively.
The Mac Pro needs to be optimized for the above purpose and be useful for at least five years. I plan to max out all the other options (RAM, graphics cards, storage). Performance is more important than cost.
The few discussions I have found that mention optimum core configurations seem to lean toward 6 or 8 (but likely are not taking into consideration my need for manipulating a large number of very large files), so I am looking to this foum for opinions.
    Thank you,
    Kent

  • Importing images with Lightroom 2  & Camera RAW 4.5

The following query has been raised with Adobe Technical Support (5 days ago and I am still waiting for a response/reply. They claim to reply within 24 hours but they have not on this occasion......they seem to be ignoring me
Perhaps a fellow user can help to identify or resolve the problem.
    Operating System:
Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3)
    Software:
Adobe Design Premium CS3 (10.0.1); Photoshop Lightroom 1.4 (which was working fine) and Lightroom 2 (on trial and not working particularly well)
I am using a trial download of Photoshop Lightroom 2 (with Camera RAW 4.5 in Photoshop CS3).
I am having a few problems with editing Lightroom 2 images in Photoshop CS3 but I understand that Adobe is currently investigating a solution to this problem.
I have also noticed another potential problem since I have started to import images from a computer drive to Lightroom 2 and converting the Manufacturers RAW files to DNG (with the option to leave the files at their current location/drive).
My RAW and JPEG files open ok in Camera RAW (v 4.5) for basic editing and subsequently to Photoshop for more detailed work. The problem is that all my images are now opening as Smart Objects by default in Photoshop CS3, as opposed to opening as a Background layer". (I have not knowingly opted to use the Open as Smart Object option.
I am not entirely sure how this came about but I have also lost the capacity to edit images with empty Levels adjustment layers or percentage (%) grey fill option).
I am able to highlight the respective layer and create the empty Levels adjustment layer, change the blend mode to either Multiply or Screen, fill the Layer Mask with Black (Alt & backspace), change the opacity level as desired, select the brush tool and change the foreground colour to white to enable the applicable Dodge or Burn processes.
Unfortunately, it does not function irrespective of the preferred opacity level. The Dodge or Burn feature is static with no effect on the image.
I cannot recall any settings to open all files as Smart Objects in Photoshop CS3 but would welcome some help in identifying such a setting if it exists. Alternatively, I would welcome any other suggested methods of correcting the above difficulties.
The same difficulties are evident when I try to use the Dodge or Burn features via the Edit and Fill option with a percentage of Grey and the Overlay Blend Mode.
The "Common Denominator" of the above difficulties appear to be Lightroom 2 and Camera RAW 4.5 (individually and or collectively) and now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Are any other users experiencing similar issues or have any suggestions about how I might correct or resolve these problems? ......
I am not afraid of hearing or accepting that the "Dummy Factor" has played some part or how I may release myself from the said "Dummy Factor".....any help is welcome help.
Adobe Technical Support seems to be ignoring me......I wonder why?
    Regards
    Bob Wallace

Essentially you are wrapping the raw image data into a special type of layer, a "smart object". You can then revisit and fine tune the Camera Raw conversion as often as you want and take advantage of working directly on the raw data in its pre-Photoshop purity. You can also apply to this smart object layer a number of Photoshop adjustments and filters - and again redo and fine tune them as often as you wish.
You'll find them explained in a number of recent books. I know Scott Kelby is keen on them, there are examples on Russell Brown's site, and my own book last year on B&W strongly advocated their use.
    Have a play.

  • DNGs produced from Hasselblad .fff files display a different image in Bridge and Camera Raw

Lately, not sure when this started exactly, Bridge CC (and Camera RAW 8.7) are displaying incorrect DNG images!  Instead of showing the image I expect to see, I'll see an old image from days ago.  This seems to carry on from Bridge through to Camera RAW.  But then if I continue on to Photoshop with the image, it'll finally show the correct image.
I'm assuming this has something to do with DNG, because if I load another raw file type (like .fff or .NEF), it seems ok.  Also it seems to be ok with DNGs produced from other cameras like Nikon D90.
    My set up:
    - Mac OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks)
    - Bridge CC
    - Camera Raw 8.7
    - Photoshop CC 2014
    - Hasselblad H4D-50

HI, I managed to fix the trouble by reinsatalling once again and running updates BEFORE opening bridge. It seemed that if I ran the update AFTER opening bridge I would get either an up to date status when checking for updates or I would get an install failure notice on all 4 updates that were trying to install. The updates were for camera raw, bridge and PS. I can't explain why but that helped a little. I also changed permissions on my whole user accnt to include read/write for all users. I can't say if this helped or not. I also had to go into my camera B/U files on a sepate HD and replace some of the CR folders I was using o nthe desktop. Still the CR files would not show a thumb nor a preview till I then went to each individual file inside that folder and purged the cashe for that file so it could repopulate the cashe yet again. This has been the strangest few days in PSCS6 history! Well my personal history. I will report back here if more quirks emerge. I would prefer quarks though....aloha, U

  • Raw image support from LR4.3 to CS4

I upgraded to LR4.3 and CS4.  When I open a raw image in CS4 from LR4.3, the image quality is horrible.  A message appeared that I need camera raw plugin 7.3, however, this is not available for CS4.  Is there a solution to this problem or do I need to upgrade to CS6?

You updated but I'll post the following for anyone else who has the same question in future.
LR 4.3 is equivalent to Camera Raw 7.3. If LR and Ps aren't communicating well, you can export an image file from LR then open that into Ps. For 16-bit, choose TIFF with ZIP compression unless you don't mind an enormous file. 16-bit PSD is another option but its Background layer has no compression and will be the same huge size as an uncompressed TIFF.

I store all my images in jpeg.  Been doing my editing elsewhwere, but yesterday tried to use Adobe Bridge.  I opened a jpeg image in camera raw and was unsuccessful in getting what I wanted.  Now, when I try to open one of my jpeg images in Photoshop it opens in camera raw.  If I click on open image it opens, but in a size that is incorrect and is useless.  Help!!!!!!!

Hope the screenshots will help you.
On a Mac ACR prefs are in Bridge / Adobe Bridge / Camera Raw Prefs or if you open a file in ACR at the top is a row of icons, if you choose the menu icon it also provides you those prefs.
I was wrong about PSD, that should have been Tiff btw...
