RAW Images slow in Finder

Here is my problem:
1. My images are slow to render in finder and every other program that uses finder.  When you click on the file I have to wait for a long time for the photos to render. I'm getting a lot of beach balls.
-Most of my images are RAW CR2 files.  Although the same thing happens with jpeg files as well.
2. This was not a problem until I upgraded to Mavericks.
From the research I have done so far this seems to be a Mavericks problem.  Which would make sence, because it wasn't an issue before Mavericks. I'm reading that other peolple are having this problem as well, but I'm finding no answers.  if you do have an answer would you please mind sharing.

Does this happen on all photos with clipped areas?
Could you just be clipping the Green channel, but not the red and blue? You might ask in the Aperture forum, they have a lot more RAW experience than here on the iPhoto forum.
Do you have Canon's software installed? Does it do the same thing?

  • RAW image files

Thank you in advance for your input.
I am curious if the MYcloud has the ability to save RAW image files from my digital camera? I have created folders but when I move them they become JPEG format. I understand the reasoning (so Myphoto app works) but is there a way to save the RAW image too so I can edit the photo at a later time?

    Thank you!

Thank you JAC70. So from my MacBook Pro I drag and drop from the folder I have my raw images saved into finder/WdMYCloud/"the folder I named for the images"?
I am not trying to take them from my iphone to the my photo app, just from the hard drive on my MacBook to the folder I have created on MyCloud.
Sorry, I just want to be sure I am following your instruction.
    Thanks again!

recently bought a samsung NX30 camera which came with lightroom 5, after several hours of googling i got it setup properly with the correct camera raw to be able to access my raw images. I found my old laptop was very slow when processing the hundreds of images I usually take on a weekly basis.  I bought a new faster laptop but when I looked for the cd with the software and serial I could not find it in the Xmas clutter.  I downloaded a trial version of lightroom and got it working on my new laptop. Is there a way to access the serial number from my previously installed version and insert it into the trail version to make it work for me?
    Myron

    Mea culpa
While i registered all my cs2 thru 6 versions and my lightroom 2 thru 4 versions and recorded the serials and saved the adobe registration emails.  Since this came as a freebee with the camera i neglected this vital step.  I have the instslled version on my old laptop but want to install it on my new one.  Thanks to Jim Hess I got the serial so all is well in my world and I will register it with ADOBE

RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

Your question is a little unclear. In a "normal" Lightroom/Photoshop workflow the raw images do not open from Lightroom into Camera Raw. Lightroom has all of the Camera Raw functionality in the develop module. When you choose to open an image in Photoshop, and Lightroom and Photoshop are synchronized (i.e. referencing the same version of Camera Raw) then Camera Raw is simply used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments as the image is transferred to Photoshop. If Camera Raw is an older version then Lightroom offers you the choice to open the image or create a PSD or TIF file that includes all of the Lightroom adjustments. But in either case, opening in Camera Raw is not part of the workflow. It is possible to open the image as a smart object or convert the image to the smart object in Photoshop and then open it in Camera Raw. That is done from within Photoshop or is one of the open options in Lightroom. If you choose to go the smart object route the image first has to be opened in Photoshop and then from there you can open it in Camera Raw.

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • PS6 raw image thumbnails gone in finder

Recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6 and as a result raw images thumbnails no longer show up in finder windows. I use the finder for sorting hundreds of images - now it requires me to open Photoshop to see an image. Apple has always supported new version of Adobe raw - at lease for a while.
I know I could update the OS and probably solve this issue, but...
    1. I don't like being coerced into doing that and
    2. I like SnowLoepard better than the new OS.
Is there not some solution that respects my preferences as a user for at least a couple of years?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hello Turlie,
1.) Make sure you have a backup
2.) Hold down command + option on your keyboard and launch iPhoto
3.) Check off the top 2 rebuild options only (they both mention thumbnails)
If that does not take care of it:
1.) Hold down command + option on your keyboard and launch iPhoto
2.) Check off the "repair permissions option"
3.) Allow this to complete, close iPhoto and do the rebuild again and this time with "Rebuild iPhoto library database..." only
If that does not take care of it:
Highlight everything in your library, right click on an image, and choose "Rescan"
If that does not take care of it, you can either restore from a backup you have BEFORE the issue started happening or go to your iPhoto Library (Usually located in ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library), right click on the library and choose show package contents, remove anything that says "faces".
WARNING: Removing these files will remove all your faces you've identified thus far. You'll have to re-do them. BUT, it should also resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.

Have you checked your "Import" settings for "Raw&Jpeg" pairs in the "Import" panel?
You can set Aperture to import raw, jpeg, or raw&jpeg.
If you imported Raw&Jpeg, but have set Aperture to use the Jpeg as original, you will see the imported image as Jpeg image, not as a raw image, even if the raw has also been imported. You can switch between Raw and Jpeg originals for selected images from the Photos menu:
Photos > Use Raw as original.

Before purchasing Elements 12 I need to know whether it will process RAW images from an Olympus OMD-EM1.  Can someone advise or tell me how I can find out?

    Hi,
This document defines the supported cameras
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
According to that, the OM-D E-M1 is supported by Camera Raw 8.3 which is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12. You should try the trial download first to make sure you are happy with it.
Once you have downloaded and installed the trial version you will need to go to the help menu and select Updates..
If you decide to buy it, you can convert the trial version to the full version by supplying the new serial number.
I would avoid the Mac App version and don't get the upgrade version unless you have an older version.
    Good luck

Thanks. So it is probably worth upgrading to Aperture?
And you say that because? While Aperture has more features and more capabilities than iPhoto - especially in working with RAW - this is not one - depending on what yo do with previews in Aperture it may be even more difficult to use the edited photos incorrectly - iPhoto is simple - just correctly access the edited photo as TD suggested
To access the resulting jpeg you can export in any format except Original, drag to the desktop or use a media browser
    Same same for Aperture

  • Lightroom 1.4 won't read RAW images from my camera

I upgraded from a Canon Rebel XT to a Canon 1000D (Rebel XS), and it won't read RAW files anymore. When I try to import a RAW file, it says "file appears to be unsupported or damaged."
I've read that I can download a plugin to solve this problem, but I'm not having much luck. I've downloaded Camera Raw 5.2, which says that it supports the Canon XS, but it's still not working. Perhaps I've installed it incorrectly? Please help. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but another workaround for this common issue of trying to use RAW images taken with a newer camera than is supported by the version of Adobe software you have may be to use Canon software included with the Canon XS to import the Canon RAW images to your PC's hard drive, and then import them using the Adobe software. If they're still not recognized by LR, you'd have to first convert them with Canon software to another format such as TIFF or JPG, which of course, besides being a nuisance additional second step, loses the advantage of having taken the photo in RAW to begin with, though you could do basic white balance and exposure corrections with Canon software on the RAW files before converting.
If you'll be using a lot of XS RAW photos in Lightroom, it's probably worth the hundred bucks to upgrade to LR2 which most users feel is much more powerful than LR 1.4 anyway and therefore worth the charge. The adjustment brushes, graduated filters, and improved sharpening make the upgrade worthwhile, and then LR could import your XS' RAW photos directly from the camera. However, *if* your PC is barely managing with LR 1.4, you may find LR 2.x too slow for your PC. You can try LR 2.x first for a time for free before paying for the upgrade. Check out the video tutorials on the upgrades because their use is not intuitive and you may falsely conclude they don't add much function if you don't learn how to use them.

  • Camera raw 7 slow zoom in/out ,but fast process 2003 or 2010

    Hi
i did notice that zoom in or out in camera raw is slow , even in middle pc , i'm not talking about hi end pc
but i did find it's amazing fast if use process 2003 or 2010
may i use like default the 2003 or 2010 ?
    how can i do it?
    thanks
    cheers

    mantralightroom wrote:
but do you why 2010 is so slow compared to 2010 o 2003 ?
Just a suspicion:  Adobe is adding more and more compute-intensive functionality in the newer versions - for example image analysis that affects the way the PV2012 controls work - in anticipation of more and more powerful computers.  It's the normal way of things.
PV2012 seems to take about twice as long for me to complete a conversion than its predecessor.  But on my reasonably powerful computer that's the difference between 2 and 4 seconds - no problem, really.
I'm not sensing any difference in zoom speed.
everytime i load a canon raw file , it 's always to 2012!
    what 's wrong?
I don't know.  Photoshop CS5 comes up with PV2010 for me for images I haven't opened before, because that's what I saved my Camera Raw Defaults as.   I don't use the camera serial number/ISO specificity settings though.
Are you thinking of updating to Photoshop CS6?  I mention this because the released version is available today.

  • Lightroom 15000+ images ; Slow

Computer Specs: iMac 20" Intel Core 2 Duo with 2.16 GHz with 2GB Ram and 250 GB Harddrive.
    Problem #1 15000+ image slow ...
    ==========
I'm using Lightroom since a month now, initially i downloaded the beta version and moved about 2000+ images (about 80% raw files, rest jpg) and it was working great ...
Now I've just purchased Lightroom 1.0 and moved about about 5 years of my digital pictures about 15000+ pictures. First i imported the first set of 2000+ pictures and it worked great again ...
then I imported 14000+ pictures (mostly jpg, less then 500 were raw) and the response from lightroom changed dramatically, it is slow. I want to assign my keywords to the pictures and tell remove the rejects and come down to 10000+ pictures. But this collection will grow,
My question to you is ...
    1) Can ligthroom handle 15000+ pictures, if yes what i'm doing wrong ...
    Problem # 2 Backup ... Using Export ...
    ===========
The way I'm backup is ... I select all pictures in the library (it was okay when manageing 2000+ pics) ... and export them to my external harddrive as DNG ... this converts my .NEF to .DNG which is perfect, but
this one also convert all my .JPG to .DNG.
Is there a way to convert only my .NEF TO .DNG but backing up my JPG as JPG
Is there another way to backup, i could not find a menu entry to backup on Lightroom.
    Thanks in advance
    Sajid

I have almost 13,000 images in my Library on a Windows system (Dual Core AMD 64 x2 - 2.2 Ghz - and 2 gb memory). I notice that LR takes much longer to open fully. If I wait for the HD to stop reading then LR responds fairly quickly. When scrolling through a lot of images I find that using minimal cells, instead of expanded, speeds up the thumbnail building issue. All in all I do find that LR gets pretty slow when well loaded with images, but that should improve with future upgrades.
I do still wonder why LR needs to rebuild thumbnails every time it opens. Bridge CS3 takes longer to build thumbnails, but it only has to do it once so it is faster the next time you open that folder.

  • Transferring 15GB-20GB of RAW images from PC to Mac

Transferring 15GB-20GB of RAW images from PC to Mac
    Hi,
I have a 12 MP camera. I can only recover 40% approx. of the deleted RAW image files from my Sandisk memory card. I want to try mwww.cnwrecovery.com which recovers fragmented files, but only for PCs. I have a Mac.
I also want to make sure I get the original large files - or close to that, which has not been the case with 2 out of 4 recovery software I already tried (they yielded files in the 200KB-600KB range.)
I can use a friend's PC but technical questions arise, i.e.:
    a) which media is large enough to use for transferring 15GB-20GB, b) formatting of the media (PC/Mac), c) step-by-step precautions to take when transfering images from media to Mac (formatting, transfer location, etc.)
Apparently, according to Apple support, I have to proceed carefully and in a specific order.
I can use thoughtful and detailed feedback from you guys. Thanks a lot.
    Raphael

It should be easy. Just copy the files to four or five DVDs that are identified for use with Macs and PCs. Then copy the DVD contents into a folder on the Mac using the Finder. Burning DVDs is slow but it gives you physical backup of the images that is very comforting when recovering from a disaster.
Another way is to FTP the files via Internet using one of the large-files sites but that too is slow. IMO DVDs are the way to go. It is possible to have format issues but unlikely if you use quality modern media that are identified as Mac and PC. Just try it first.
When you Finder-copy to the Mac select the files you want, do not just grab the whole DVD as one chunk. You do not need any Win directory files or whatever non-image-files that may be there. Beware of malware any time you touch a PC. If anyting asks you to "install" something on the Mac side that needs your password, do not do it; copying image files requires no installation.
    Good luck!

  • Can't open RAW images in Photoshop

I purchased a new computer. It runs 64 bits. I have CS4. Since uploading it to my computer, I can not open RAW images. I have downloaded the most recent updates.
I have been using the 32 bit photoshop because I could not get my NIK filters to work in 64 bit. But I can't open any of my RAW images.  I can't open them in either 32 or 64 bit.
I have version 5.0.0.178 of Camera Raw.  I only know this because I can see it under "About filer.... Camera Raw".  I cant find any camera raw filters in adobe/plug-ins in either version of photoshop. I have a huge photoshoot tomorrow. I NEED to open RAW images.  HELP!!  Regular Support is down for the next few days.

If you look at this list: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html
You will see you need Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 or later.
As Chris says, update either maually from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4681
Or use the Updater from PS help.
