RAW Images won't open in elements

I recently loaded Photoshop Elements onto my MAC and attempted to use it to review and edit some images I took with my 7D Mark ii. Received the following message:
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information.
Managed to figure out that I need an update but when I downloaded and installed it (at least I think that's what I did), nothing changed. I feel obliged to admit that I'm a recent MAC convert and a Photoshop novice. ANY assistance would be appreciated!

It is not the version of Photoshop Elements, it is the version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) that is installed as a plug-in. In the PE Help menu, look for "Updates". Click it and let it work.
If you did it any other way, it won't work.

Images won't open in Elements. Can't even create a new image.

I am trying to open .jpg images in Elements 12 running on Windows 8. File, Open, (select image from thumbnails provided in directory) Nothing happens. The image doesn't appear on screen. If I try to create a new image (File, New), nothing happens either. Please can anyone help? Thanks.

This behavior does sound really strange. Could you provide any screenshots of your workflow?

Canon CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop CS4

I'm using a Canon EOS 600D (aka EOS Kiss X5), Photoshop CS4 (ver 11.0.1) with Camera Raw 5.7.0.213.
CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop, though the thumbnails are clearly visible and open in Windows Explorer.
Any suggestions?

Yes, absolutely all of the quality and dynamic range is retained in the DNG, because it is still raw data.
Outside of upgrading to Photoshop CS5, which can open your files directly with Camera Raw 6.4.1, your only choice is the extra step of converting the .CR2 files to .DNG with the free DNG converter.
While you'll get all the quality your Camera Raw 5.x converter can deliver, you should keep in mind the Camera Raw 6.x converter has an entirely new, additional "2010 process" for converting raw images, which (depending on your settings) can actually deliver a higher quality conversion than the one you're getting with Photoshop CS4. I think it's worth the cost of the Photoshop upgrade, personally.

I have just downloaded Elements 10, and to my disappointment, the .cr2-files from my Canon 60d won't open in Elements.
I have installed Camera Raw 6.5.0.216 and that did not help ... Can anyone assist?:-)

The EOS 60D only requires ACR 6.2; so 6.5 should definitely provide support for your CR2 files.
Can you check that the plug-in has actually installed correctly.

Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1 Lightroom is version 5.7 Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4
FWIW, I also can't automate>Photomerge ... . Makes me think Photoshop, not Lightroom, is all wacky. I tried dumping PS preferences

RAW image is being opened in all Adobe programs cropped from left and right!

I'm already asking this in After Effects community, but this problem is happening in Lightroom as well, and Photoshop.
My 5Dm3 RAW images are being opened cropped. But Windows Photo Preview opens them completely.
Please help if you can.

Geoff the 5D MKIII was introduced about the time of the bug report now marked as "Implemented." I just found this post by Eric Chan on the Photoshop Family site from six months ago and it appears it isn't "implemented" for older camera models, including the Canon 5D MKIII.

Unfortunately, we can't change the existing 5D3 support (even though technically we know how to do it) because that would post a backward compatibility issue for the images that folks have already shot. In particular, many 5D3 images that have already been cropped by the user in ACR/Lr would suddenly appear to have a different crop, and that would be far worse. My suggestion: If you have a 5D3, don't set the in-camera crop (always leave it to full 3:2 aspect ratio).
Victoria Brampton suggests (15 days ago) using the DNG Recover Edges plugin-in, and stop using in-camera crop settings.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

I upgraded today from cs5 to cs6 and my images won't open properly only a small portion of the image is visible. How do I fix this?

Old folder of images won't open in Bridge

I've been finding today that all of a sudden images won't open and yet I can preview the images in my Mac finder window. It started when I tried to open an old folder of images and now I can't open any images anywhere, it's like it has got stuck on the old folder and won't budge.
I'm really desperate as now I can't do anything.
I'd really appreciate any advice people may have. I just tried purging the cache but that didn't appear to work and I think Bridge just hung so I just force quit. I have also tried restarting my Mac, but to no avail.

Fixed it now. I held down shift, option and alt whilst clicking on the Bridge application icon in my dock. I was then able to reset everthing there. It took about 5 minutes for it to delete all the cached thumbnails and goodness knows what else, but at least now it works. technology, don't you just love it when it screws you over!

Canon 6D Raw Files won't open in PSE10

Can't open raw images in PSE 10 from EOS_Digital. I'm using a Mac, Mavericks operating system, which is up to date. Have got a new camera, Canon 6D. No problem previously with Canon 60 D. I've downloaded LR5 but rather confused with it, so went back to my original way of editing via EOS Digital and PSE 10 which would always open up the raw files before but now won't?

The Canon 60D requires Camera Raw 6.2 which is compatible with Elements 10 and later. So you can open 60D Raw files in Elements 10.
The Canon 6D requires Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with Elements 11 and later. So you'll never be able to open 6D Raw files in Elements 10..
You must either a) upgrade to the latest version Elements 12.
Or b) first convert all your 6D Raw files to DNGs using the free Adobe DNG converter. That adds an extra step to your workflow. Then you can open and edit the DNGs in Elements 10.

Edited Raw Files Won't Open In CS4

I run Lightroom v 3.3 and now that I have sorted out a CS$ problem I am unable to open an edited nikon raw file in CS$ via the option Photo/edit in/CS4. I get this message 'Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected files at volume/........ for editing. It will not be opened.
So whilst I used to be able to open seamlessly and edit raw images in CS4 after doing work in LR3.3 I cannot now do so. Is it an issue with Lightroom (I suspect it is) or a setting in my camera D3s?
Just prior to this I could not open these same files in CS4 without a serious degradation in the colour but corrected that by unchecking 'compensate for scene-referred profiles' in colour management in CS4.
I am Mac with latest snow leopard OS.
Can anyone advise, please?

Sorry You can actually upgrade to Camera Raw 5.6
Delete the existing Camera Raw 8bi file from the File Formats Folder before starting
Click and download the plug-in
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see the plug-in file you need. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 6\File Formats\
Note: Before you start the download you need to do some preparation. Navigate to the File Formats File on the Laptop and move Camera Raw.8bi I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents or drag it to the desktop before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If your laptop is running a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

Some Canon CR2 RAW Files Will Not Open In Elements 8

I use a Canon 7D DSLR. Up until 30 minutes ago I never had a problem opening Canon CR2 RAW files in Photoshop Elements 8.
Some files still open others do not. I can think of only one thing. I was shooting a large number of frames and reduced the RAW Image size down from RAW Large Only to RAW Medium with Small Jpeg to give me more room on the Compact Flash Card.
The Large RAW only CR2 files open fine in PSE 8, the Jpegs open fine, but the smaller sized CR2 files will not open and I get a wrong file type message in PSE8.
Any ideas why this would happen? I suspect it is a function of the camera setting, but all RAW files download as CR2 files.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter. Needless to say I am resetting my camera back to Large RAW files only.

ACR 5.x only supported full-sized 7D RAWs, but ACR 6.x supports 7D mRAW and sRAW, so just update to the latest version of the plugin, following the PSE-specific instructions:

sRAW and mRAW files are not RAWs because the camera has already demosaicked them to RGB and encoded them as lossless JPG.
