Raw in sony rx 100

I want to shoot raw in sony rx100 which I know is now supported by lightroom 4.2 and elements 11 - I have 3 and 10 - which product is it better for me to upgrade to for that purpose?

If you really want to be effective you will want current versions of both programs. Lightroom is a parametric editor. That means that the adjustments are not applied to the image permanently, and that makes some things that you can do in Lightroom somewhat limited. For instance, extensive cloning or healing, and changing backgrounds, or changing colors, etc. Photoshop Elements is an excellent companion program that will give you that added capability. My recommendation to you would be to get new versions of both programs.

  • Camera RAW for Sony RX-100 M2

I have PhotoShop CS4 and CS6.  Bought Sony RX-100 M2.  Adobe supports this camera for RAW files.  I downloaded the latest DNG converter but still can't open RAW files.  Was that the right thing to do?  File extension is ARW.  Would appreciate help.  I'm not very computer literate, so please respond in simple English.  Thanks.

Interesting -- when I tried to insert an ARW file here I'm told I can't upload that file type.  Anyway, I think I've got it worked out.  I have to move the images into a folder -- can't open individual files -- must open a folder.  So I moved three RAW files into a folder, choosing to open in DNG converter application, and it allowed me to open the images in the folder and I selected to convert to DNG.  Not exactly what I wanted, but at least it works.  I read that converting to DNG reduces the RAW image, so again, not optimum.  Thanks again for your assistance.

  • Most recent RAW update, New Aperture and Maverick but still Aperture cannot view RAW files from my Sony RX-100 camera.

I have all the most recent Software updates and a brand new version of Aperture but when I connect my Sony RX-100 to my MBP, Aperture cannot view or import the RAW files. It will import JPEG format. I am new to Aperture and would appreciate some advice here. Do I need an old RAW format update or is there something else I need to do here.
    Thanks for any help.

Keith, the latest raw support claims to have fixed issues with the RX-100 raw support:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.03This update adds RAW image compatibility for additional cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11. Jan 16, 2014
This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following camera to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:
    Canon EOS M2
    It also includes fixes that:
Resolve an issue that prevented lens correction from working properly with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 images
Address a color cast issue on some Olympus OM-D E-M1 images
The RX-100 has been supported since earlier, but the previous raw support has introduced a bug.
    itunesisbullshitplopcrapshould update the raw support.
This requires Aperture 3.5. and Mavericks.
    Correction: This requires
    System Requirements
    OS X 10.8.5 w/ iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 9.4.5
    OS X 10.9 w/ iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 9.4.5

  • Sony RX 100 Raw Files

    Using Windows 8 PSE 9.0.3.
What do I need to do in order to process Raw files from Sony RX 100
    Thanks in advance.

Every RAW capable Sony camera I've had is provided with software that can read those RAW files. Recent cameras usually require you to connect the camera to your PC so that the Sony website can then validate you do indeed own a Sony camera - it will then let you download the software. So you could use that software to convert the files to a PSE readable format.
Alternatively you can convert them to Adobe's DNG format using their free DNG Converter 8.2. Your PSE9 will then open these into Camera RAW.
    Cheers,

  • Will Elements and Lightroom open RAW files fro the Sony DSCRX-100 camera?

Will elements and l;ightroom  open RAW files from the Sony DSCRX-100 camera ?

I have the RX100 and confess to be an Adobe fan.   You did not say which Lightroom or which elements you want to use.  You need the latest versions.
Photoshop Elements 11 comes with Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) version 7.0 in place when you install it.  Under the help menu, there is a choice to check for updates.  If you do, ACR 7.2 installs.  The RX100 is included in 7.2.  Previous versions of Photoshop Elements will not udate to 7.2.  When you open a RAW photo, a screen pops up that lets you adjust, convert and save to something Photoshop Elements can handle.
You have to have Lightroom 4.2 to get RX100 usefulness.  Lightroom uses, but hides, the ACR engine.  Instead the slider controls are built in the user interface.  When you buy it, it installs as 4.0.  The help menu also has an update choice so that you can get to 4.2 from 4.0.
You didn't ask, but Premier Elements 11 is a good choice for video because it is he first version that "officially" supports the high quality 1080p60 or "PS" setting in the RX100.
On T day, I shot RAW photos of my granddaughters dancing to a Wii game in terrible light.  Yesterday I "adjusted" the batch of RAW shots taken with the RX100 in Lightroom and saved them as .jpg files.  Today, I wll make a video in Premier Elements from those .jpg images, put in some pan and zoom effects, add a sound track and put it on Vimeo.
My view is that an RX100 owner needs PSE 11, PrE 11 and Lightroom 4 to take advantage of the camera's capabilties.  Setting it on "fine" .jpg and uploading snapshots to Flicker leaves an awful lot on the table!

  • My raw files go to unsupported file format when I load them in. Sony RX 100 had for one year. Never happened before.

my raw files go to unsupported file format when I load them in. Sony RX 100 camera shooting RAW had for one year. Never happened before.
Can only load the files in by running them trhough Adobe Camera RAW first and loading them as TIFFS into Aperture. JPEGs form the Sony load into Aperture just fine. Have repaired datebase, permissions ect but no change. Aperture 3.4.5 on a Power Mac. Whats up? Anyone know?

You mention that 'most' of your files are DNG. Try
running the effected files through Adobe DNG
converter again and then import your reprocessed
files to Aperture and see if the problem persists.
I had a problem with a batch of D2x files converted
to DNG which had been metadata tagged by
    PhotoMechanic (the evil app).
B.T.W. You mention that you had been using Bridge.
Are you getting any of the embedded XMP metadata
coming into Aperture during the import process?
Already tried that multiple times...no luck. I'm wondering though if it might be related to metadata as you suggest. I'm still trying different things to see what happens.
I was able to alleviate the problem on one set of images by painstakingly searching my external drive for the oldest backups I could find - CR2 files from before DNG conversion. I then ran those through DNG Converter and tried importing them again (this time, I embedded NO thumbnail, but I'm not sure if that made the difference - I think it was more likely a fluke in the original conversion that caused the problem). This time, it worked.
Now, the big problem is that I still have a couple hundred images for which I can't seem to locate the original CR2 files. I don't typically keep them after conversion, as I don't have the space for both.

  • LR 4.2RC and ACR 7.2 RC won't read SONY RX 100 ARW files

I was at a wedding yesterday and had two cameras with me - a Nikon D800 and my little SONY RX 100.  I was using an Eye-Fi Pro card for the Sony.  I'm uninterested in the Wi-Fi capabilities when I'm away from home, but like the camera to upload pictures when I'm close to my big processing machine.  Long story short.  This was the first time I've used the LR 4.2RC and ACR 7.2RC with the Sony RX 100.  I plugged the card into both the regular Eye-Fi USB reader, and into my Hoodman USB 3.0 reader.  Of course, LR doesn't like the Eye-Fi reader, but it loves the Hoodman.  Finally, it recognized the Hoodman and the Eye-Fi card.  I have previews set to minimal and I was attempting to import all the raw (ARW) files into Lightroom.  When the initial previews come up as I start the import process, it shows about 1/3 of the previews and then tells me it can't read the rest, including MP4 files.  When I actually begin the import, it simply times out and reports that it was unable to import ANY of the ARW files, nor the MP4 files.  I have no trouble reading 63 files into Raw Photo Processor so I know there is nothing wrong with any of the files.  I can only conclude that there is something wrong with LR 4.2 and/or ACR 7.2.
Anyone else reporting this problem?  I'm puzzled because this is the ONLY time I have ever had trouble importing files from supported cameras.
    Thanks for feedback.

Well.  After some experimentation, I discovered what the problem seems to be.  For reasons completely opaque to me, Lightroom expects not only that the Eye-Fi card will be read from its own reader, but it also expects that the Eye-Fi helper application be installed and running.  Of course, this means that I end up with duplicate copies of every file - once to the Eye Fi directory, and again to the appropriate Lightroom Folder on a completely different set of drives.   I guess the conclusion I can draw from this is that without the helper application, the Eye Fi card is dumb and the images only partly visibible.  The Eye-Fi helper can import the .ARW files, but it doesn't display them because Apple hasn't updated its camera list to include the RX100.  Until they do, I think I'll just use regular cards and consign the Eye-Fi card to the hall of unhelpful cards.  Yikes, the darned thing is as expensive as the Lightroom upgrade.
    Sigh.

  • ARW Files from SONY RX 100 II...

Neither Lightroom 4 nor the organizer from Elements 9 recognize the RAW files from my new SONY RX 100 II. Bridge does, however and I can use Camera RAW from CS6..When will Lightroom be updated to cover that camera and its RAW files?

You must have  Camera Raw 8.2 RC for CS6?
Lightroom 5.2 is the version that will read those files.

  • Sony RX 100 camera

Does Lightroom 4 support RAW files from the Sony RX 100 camera? ( Important as my wife is considering buying me one of these cameras for my birthday! )

I have one.  Lightroom's current version 4.4 works fine.
But, I'll go further.  I think you need Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements, version 11, to get all your paying for in a RX100.
At least get Premier Elements to handle the wonderful video the RX100 shoots.  Version 11 has full support for the high quality 1080p60 video setting and will allow inclusion of the raw ARW files in video projects or video slide shows.   Lightroom has a terrific video preview mode where you can tag the clips you want, export copies to a project folder and quickly get them into a PrE video project.  The raw ARW files can be loaded in PrE with no pre-processing where you can add interest with a variety of effects including the "Ken Burns" pan and zoom.

  • How can I open RAWs from Sony RX100II in PSE 11

I have PSE 11 (Editor only) on iMac. How to open RAW files from Sony RX 100 II?

You need to upgrade to PSE12 to get support for your camera. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Camera raw for Sony A7

I havw Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and need update camera raw for Sony A7? Where can I find it?

Support for the A7 was added in the latest version of Camera Raw 8.3 back in December.  Adobe only updates shipping products so you’d need to upgrade to PSE12:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
An alternative is to use the free Adobe DNG Converter to create DNGs from your ARWs, one folder at a time.  The DNGs will have the added information that older versions of the ACR plug-in need to open the files.
You can find the DNG Converter on the general Adobe updates page:

RAW import Sony ILCA-77M2 funktioniert in Lightroom 5 nicht. Wer kann helfen?

The A77.2 is not listed as a newly supported camera in the ACR 8.5 RC available at Adobe Labs:  http://labs.adobe.com
But it could be added before the final release of ACR 8.5, sometime before July 31st, when the RC expires.  Otherwise, a new ACR plug-in is released every 3 or 4 months.

  • Sony DSCRX-100 video files cannot be imported into Lightroom 5.3

I have lightroom 5.3 running on Windows 7 64-bit. I am unble to import AVCHD video files from my Sony DSCRX-100. I am not sure why, as lightroom 5 supports this video format.

I got LR to import AVCHD.
I have the RX100M2.  I shoot stills most of the time, but when I shoot video, I use MP4 output. So I tried an AVCHD to see if I had problems importing.  At first I got the same results. Import did not see it on the SD card. Then I went into the SD card in Windows Explorer to see how the folder structure was laid out. I found a folder PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV with a file 00000.MTS.  I did a drag and drop of the .MTS file onto the LR Grid mode screen. Import came up and the file imported properly. Apparently LR did not see the folder, but when pointed directly to the folder it worked.
My work environment: Win 7 64bit, LR 5.3.  I hope this helps.

  • Raw format sony a100

I have a lot of raw format photos from a sony a100. When I try to view pics from that camera the thumbnails look normal, but the full size pics look somewhat like negatives. Is there a way to fix this?
Also how can I add photos to my iphoto library without copying the pics into the iphoto folder?

    HinckeyHog
What color format are the shots? iPhoto supports RGB only, not CMYK, which can cause this problem. Also, is the RAW from Sony supported?
As to your second question: Go to Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy file to iPhoto Library Folder when importing...'
But remember: if you choose this option that importing and deleting pics are multi-step operations rather than simple ones, and things like moving your photos to an external HD or to a new machine is more complicated.
