RAW +  JPEG processing image by image?

When I import pictures from my camera, that have been saved as RAW + JPEG at the same time, I have to go picture by picture for processing....  It's always that the top and bottom of the photos appear stitched, and when it's done processing, the image is all good, and the picture's color is updated as well.
Is there a fix for this?  Can I process them all without going one by one?

Try leaving it alone until the processing is done. Or actually click on the word Processing and you can see what it is doing as the Activity Window will open. Should tell you how many it has finished, how many more to go.
I believe when you double-click on one of the images, Aperture thinks you want to work on that one so it will go ahead and process that first, then go back to processing the rest.
Also if you wait until the processing is done for an import, making adjustments will go faster as well.

    Note: You must do that for any manual procedure too, or you will have the same problem, except in the manual case, you won't have the benefit of the plugin checking your work, and presenting the files to be deleted, before you commit.
    It's your call, obviously, and to save Geoff the Kiwi from pointing this out: the plugin comes with no guarantee, warranty, or any other kind of tea.
    Consider backing up catalog and photo files before doing this maintenance, whether manual, or plugin-assisted.
    In my opinion, the plugin-assisted method is much safer than the manual method, which is the only reason it was written, *not* to save steps, although it does that too. For example, you can not, with the plugin, delete any jpegs that do not have a corresponding RAW in the catalog and on disk, period. - unless there is a bug of course, but there probably isn't , at least not one that would change the aforementioned assertion... - it wouldn't take much of a bug to cause it to barf, but it would take a big bug to cause it to delete files that weren't on the list, etc...
    Seriously, I don't think you have to wait for Adobe on this one. I wouldn't (I didn't - my catalog is all clean now!...).
    PS - there is *very* little recorded in the database about the jpeg sidecar - it's existence upon import (when "as a unit") - that's about it. Most of the funny business about updating that we were fumbling with above, stems from the software (and the person at the keyboard), *not* the database. Syncing folders with 'Treat JPEG files next to raw files separately' checked, once the jpeg sidecars have been cleaned up, *will* set the database straight!

    Can LabVIEW be programmed to remotely acquire images from a commercial DSLR camera with DirectShow capability?  e.g. Canon Rebel T2i.

    1) So RAW files have a multitude of possible file extensions / formats, and it depends on which of these extensions you use. If the image can fit in memory, it can be brought into LabVIEW. An image of that size should be able to come into LabVIEW. Are you considering using NI-Vision to do this? You would look into the VI called "IMAQ ReadFile." There are a certain set of standard formats that can be read.
    2) If a camera is DirectShow capable, and there are USB drivers available to access that camera through a Windows machine, then you should be able to bring that camera up in NI's software such as LabVIEW.

    How did you import from iPhoto? If you saw the Import panel with raw -jpeg pairs, then you probably did not import your iPhoto library as library, but as files, and then you will see plenty of duplicates - previews, thumbnails, originls, edited versions. If that should be the case, it would be better to delete the import from iPhoto and to import your iPhoto library again, but this time using "File > Import > Library".
    Only that would require compatible versions of iPhoto and Aperture.  What are your Aperture and iPhoto version numbers?

  • How to import only RAW images from folder with RAW & JPEGs?

    My system is set up that I have both RAW & JPEGs in the same folder since I shoot JPEG+RAW. How can I import just the raw images without also sucking in the jpegs? There is no way to distinguish the difference in the Import box and also no way to easily separate the the two in the Import box. I've tried using the List View and separting them by File Size, but Aperture has a stupid bug here and it tells me that the JPEG file sizes are in the teens (like 17-18 megs) and they are still hard to separate from the RAW which are about the same size.
    Why can't Aperture do this basic thing?

    I'm not doing anything. What I wrote in my workflow example above is exactly what I'm doing. I've been trying some experiments to see if it was "A Better Finder Rename" that is causing the issue. So far, no go. I have taken just a couple of JPGs only and pointed Aperture's Import to the folder that contains them. Aperture is reading that there are only 2 jpegs (which is what there is) and their file size is right on the mark.
    Ok. I just narrowed it down to something. The flaw is showing up after the RAW files are converted to DNGs. The JPEGs do not show up in the Import box when there are camera raw files like NEFs or CR2s and the corresponding JPEGs. That is Aperture's normal behaviour. But, and this is a big BUT, when the raw files are converted to DNGs and they are in the same folder as the corresponding JPEGs, that's when Aperture pulls its shenanigans. It has something to do with the JPEGs and DNGs having the same name. Even though the files have different extensions, Aperture is doing something to the file size of the JPEGs that make them seem that they are much larger files than they actually are.
    I figured it out like this:
    I had 2 CR2 files and the corresponding JPEGs in a folder. Pointing Aperture's Import to that folder, Aperture did what it is supposed to do; it saw only 2 raw files (doesn't matter that the G9 CR2 files are not supported yet). So, I renamed all the files using A Better Finder Rename and Aperture still only saw 2 raw files.
    So far so good.
    Then, I converted just the 2 CR2 files to DNG and kept them in the same folder. Aperture saw 2 DNGs and 2 CR2 files. No jpegs were seen. Business as usual. Then I removed the CR2s and renamed the jpegs so they had the same names as the DNGs (except for of course different extensions) and that's when Aperture saw the jpegs as separate files and saw them with bogus file sizes.
    So I tested that by altering the jpeg names so that they were different from their corresponding DNGs and Aperture went back to seeing the jpegs with the correct file sizes.
    Therefore, Aperture is having some difficulty with two separate files, one JPEG and the other DNG, when they both have the same name (different extensions, of course).
    Try it if you have a moment. Take one raw file and convert it to DNG and place it in a folder with its corresponding jpeg. Rename both to the same name and different extensions (.dng + .jpg) and see what happens when you try to get Aperture to import. Chance are Aperture will show bogus file sizes for the jpeg.

  • Can I delete just the RAW of a RAW+JPEG image from iPad

    I just started using Photosmith 2 to integrate with Lightroom, and I think it will fit nicely in my workflow. I am importing images on the iPad with the Camera Connection Kit, sorting in Photosmith 2, and syncing with LIghtroom. The final step is to delete the imported RAW images from the iPad. However, there are some photos that I would like to keep on the iPad once they are sorted. Keeping the RAW image will take up too much room. If I shoot as RAW+JPEG is there a way (without using iPhoto) to delete just the RAW version? I read online that Image Capture should show both versions of the image, but it is only showing the JPEG. I am using Lion v 10.7.4.

    Hi, and welcome to the forums.
    No. That's an Alias to your latest backup. You'll want to keep the actual latest backup. But *DO NOT* delete (or change or move) anything of TM's via the Finder. You can hopelessly choke your Mac and corrupt your remaining backups.
    Use the procedure in item #12 of the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum. It's rather tedious and time-consuming, as you must delete them one at a time, but anything else is a recipe for disaster.

  • Unpairing RAW + JPEG image pairs

    Hi,
    I shoot in RAW + JPEG, and import my images in Aperture 3 as RAW + JPEG images pairs. Both files are treated as a single master, which keeps things tidy. However, in order to save space, I'd only like to keep the high quality RAW files for my pictures.
    Is there any way to "unpair" these RAW + JPEG image pairs, or is my only option to initially import as separate masters?

    About Apple dev, I meant that as Cupertino also targets the iPhoto's users when it comunicates about Aperture, it would have seem natural for me that some of the user friendly features of iPhoto could be found in Aperture. I know also that this forum or others forum which I participate too is populated with people who help. Actually, I would say that Aperture is developed by the same staff that develops Logic or Final Cut

    I take images in RAW + Jpeg and when I import them through L'room the jpegs do not show in LR - they suddenly stopped in an earlier version of LR and I am frustrated by it and want to know how I can get them both to show LR does import the jpegs to my computer HD but not into LR itself...what am I doing wrong?

    Are the jpegs being treated as sidecars? or is there some other problem...
    Are you familiar with the setting: "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" in Lr (general) preferences?

  • JPEG color difference between Adobe Raw and Microsoft Image Viewer

    When I calibrate my monitor or use the monitors ICC file which came with the Monitor, there is a color difference between Camera Raw image and the JPEG I save from Camera Raw, displayed in Microsoft Image Viewer.
    However, if I make my ICC file for the system to be SRGB Color Space Profile, and go through the same conversion, the JPEG image created and viewed in Microsoft Image viewer is identical to the one seen in Camera Raw.
    It appears therefore, that the operating system only uses SRGB Color Space profile for Microsoft Imaging Viewer?
    Most people I give photos to, do in fact look at them in microsoft viewer.
    How can I use the ICC profile for my calibrated monitor and end up with the same results in terms of color with Camera Raw and Microsoft image and Fax Viewer.

    All profiles are not created equal.  There's a basic version issue (ICC v4 vs. earlier), and profiles are complex things containing many fields.  Lots of things can go wrong in the creation of a proper color transform from the combination of the document and device profiles, and it kind of depends on what color management code the software uses whether it can be done properly.  Adobe has their own - the Adobe Color Engine - and there are others such as LittleCMS or even Microsoft's system-provided ICM that application designers may be using in their code.
    It may be that the profile your calibrator/profiler has produced for your monitor (or other device) isn't compatible with every application.  It happens.
    This isn't intended to provide a solution or workaround, just to help explain things a bit.

  • Can iPhoto display RAW under the image once imported?

    I've just started shooting with my Canon EOS 30d using the RAW + JPEG setting. However when i import the pics into iPhoto i don't know which is which unless i select "info". This also presents a problem when i drag them into Photoshop Elements for editing, it doesn't say RAW?
    Is there a way for iPhoto to dispaly or tag them as RAW images so they display that way in iPhoto and Elements?

    When you import a Raw it is automatically keyworded with Raw so, View -> Keywords will display the keywords, including the Raw badge.
    However...
    This also presents a problem when i drag them into Photoshop Elements for editing
    You will simply never get a Raw to Elements that way.
    When you import a Raw to iPhoto the app makes a quick preview of the Raw, and this preview is what dragging from the iPhoto Window will access only.
    You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    For sending Raw to Elements: be sure you've checked the 'Use Raw when using External Editor' box in the iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced pane.
    Remember that processing a Raw with Elements means that you create a new file, and that must be saved to the desktop and then imported to iPhoto.

  • Please add support for JPEG Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF)

    It seems that now Adobe® Illustrator® can export only to the JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF). We should have an option to produce the JPEG Exchangeable image file format (EXIF) as well (just like Photoshop does!). Why this is so important to me? I generally work under Illustrator and I often post my work on Behence. I work with 'sRGB IEC61966-2.1' color profile. When publishing I use *.jpg with embedded ICC Color Profile. But it looks like Behence doesn’t fully support the JPEG JFIF – for example it cannot read its icc data correctly. The effect is that my work looses its quality! The only option to produce the JPEG EXIF I have now is to: Export *.ai file to JPEG (under Adobe Illustrator) > go to Photoshop > Create new project > Paste the *.jpg > and Sava As JPEG with icc embedded. This guarantees my files are being processed correctly.
    (JPEG) Formally, the EXIF and JFIF standards are incompatible. This is because both specify that their particular application segment (APP0 for JFIF, APP1 for Exif) must be the first in the image file. In practice, many programs and digital cameras produce files with both application segments included. This will not affect the image decoding for most decoders, but poorly designed JFIF or Exif parsers may not recognize the file properly.   • Why does camera raw change my image?

    I have had this issue a while now and can't figure out how to change this. When I upload my images from the camera they are exactly how I wnat them in Bridge. Then when I zoom in on the image or open in ACR the image seems blown out and orange or has magenta tones in it. Because the image changes so much Iend up spending lots of time fixing in ACR rather than inhancing in ACR. Can someone please help me. I am using PS CS4, Windows7 and I shoot in RAW.

    First, I only have CS5 so I may have given some preferences to look at that you don’t have or are available via a different set of clicks in CS4; however, from your responses, the situation seems relatively clear: the image in Bridge is the camera-rendered JPG thumbnail/preview while the image in ACR is the Adobe-rendering and is all you’ll ever be able to produce.
    There are two issues:
    1)      Bridge is not showing you the Adobe Rendering for some reason.  Perhaps Bridge CS4 still has a setting of whether to show high-quality thumbnails/previews or not and if you set this, then you’ll see the Adobe-rendering in Bridge as well.
    2)      You expect the Adobe-rendering to be the same as the camera-rendering, which it can never be.  This is the main issue, although if item 1 was working, you wouldn't be distracted by the in-camera rendering.
    How to produce the camera-rendering is known only to the manufacturer of the camera and anyone who has licensed their technology.  Adobe is a separate corporate entity with no access to the camera-manufacturer’s intellectual property governing how they produce their JPGs,  so Adobe has no way to produce the camera-rendering, nor do they want to.  Adobe wants to produce similar output from different cameras.  Presumably you are using the Adobe Standard camera profile.  If your camera is a Canon or Nikon or one of a few others, then besides Adobe’s standard camera-profile there are others that you can choose from where Adobe has attempted to approximate the in-camera rendering via a profile, although this may or may not be that close, it will be closer than using Adobe Standard as your profile.  You can find the camera profiles in ACR using the tab that looks like a black camera, 3rd from the right.  If you find a different camera profile more to your liking, then you can set that as your ACR default so newly processed images will have that new profile.  Besides chaning the profile, you can also dial back the saturation or vibrance and save that as your new ACR defaults.
    I should warn you that the images in your screen-shot from Bridge have a slight greenish tinge and is quite pale-looking to my eyes, and the ACR view looks more natural.  It may be that your monitor, being uncalibrated, is distorting the colors and so your processing produces colors that everyone else will see as odd if they are viewed on different computers.  If you only ever use your processing to create prints and those prints look ok,  then perhaps this is not a problem, but if you produce web galleries for outsiders to view on their own computers, then it could be a problem.  It also could be that you and I are seeing the same thing and just differ in our preference for natural skintones.  If I had to guess, I'd say the screen-capture you have opened in Photoshop was done with an sRGB profile assigned as your monitor profile, but your color-settings in Photoshop assigned an Adobe RGB profile without doing the profile conversion and so the screen-capture as displayed in Photoshop does not actually look like the original screen in Bridge.

  • Why are my processed images now sharper in the Library mode than in Develop mode (LR5)?

    In LR 5. Recently I noticed my processed images are sharper in the Library mode than in the Develop mode. This makes doing adjustments difficult because I can't really tell the effect of the adjustments.
    PC, i7, 24GB RAM.
    I've tried purging the Camera Raw cache. It's been suggested to purge the Preview cache but I cannot find the Preview cache file. It's also been suggested to clear the Preferences but those file don't show up in a search either even though my PC search is set up to show hidden files and folders.
    Any solutions?

    Images can be different between the camera-rendered preview you see before Import and the default Adobe rendering, but after import the thumbnail in the LR grid view shouldn’t be a different tone than the image in the main area.  Is that what you’re saying you’re seeing?
    Can you show us a screenshot with both the thumbnail filmstrip and the central area visible as well as the histogram?

  • PSE8 Crash open as Raw a .jpg image in Editor to get Raw Editor

    Although it works in release 6/7, I crash when I try to open a .jpg image in the raw editor in PSE8.  I use menu file,open as, select an image, and select Camera Raw on  open as drop down menu and then click on Open.  At that point the editor crashes and goes away and has to be restarted.  Anyone have any workaround suggestions or is this broken until relase 9?

    Same behaviour here (WinXP Pro SP3, PSE upgrade path was 3-4-5-6-7-8).
    I also see 2 times Camera Raw in about plug-ins as well as in the Open as list. Chosing the first one in results in error message "The operation could not be completed, Class alread exists", using the second one in Open as results in error message (my translation from German to English) "This process could not be executed, because there was a program error" (As a software developer, I love this message ).
    I'd be interested in solutions as well.
