Raw LUN access from guest LDOM

Hi,
Is it possible to have raw access to LUNs from guest LDOM ?
Scenario is - 2 mpxio HBAs conected to control domain, 20 LUNs presented, 10 for ZFS filesystems inside LDOMs and 10 with raw access for HORCM operations inside LDOMs for switching TrueCopy pairs. So each LDOm should have exclusive access to two LUNs. This is requred for campus cluster with TrueCopy replicated storage for HA service running inside two ldoms.
We do not have T4 connected to storage yet and I can't check output of ldm list-io, but I've yet to see any examples of such setup on the net so a bit worrying if this possible at all.
Thanks !

You might be looking at PCIe Direct I/O - This extends current PCIe support to enable you to assign either individual PCIe cards or entire PCIe buses to a guest domain.
You would probably need more pci cards on different slots

  • Easiest method to block employees from Guest network?

    We have WCS and several WLCs (WISMv1, 5508, 4402) all running the 7.0.240.0 code.  The "Guest" SSID is "garden-walled" from the corp LANs.  We used to have web-auth page that required ID / PW.   This became unreasonable as IT Dept was getting requests at all hours for immediate access from guest / resident family memebrs.  So we changed the web-auth to remove the the ID / PW and just display corp policy and have to hit a "continue" button to gain access to Guest SSID.  Healthcare staff on the floor are not tech-savvy enough to want to use or perform Hotel Ambassador functions.
    The issue now is that we have employees with smartphones, tablets and even personal laptops conecting the Guest SSID. Sr. Mgt wants to find a way to stop the abuse.
    I do not believe there is any perfect solution to prevent employees from gaining access, but have been asked to find a manageable method to deter most employees from connecting to the Guest network.   Looked at seing up MAC filtering in WCS, it seems that you have to enter MACs that you *allow* on to the network - by default, other MACs are blocked.  I would rather have the template block the MACs listed in the csv file and allow access as the default..
    We have several SSIDs.  Our corporate SSID uses 802.1x and we use Microsoft Server 2012 Network Policy Server (RADIUS) to pass user ID / PW to our AD for authentication.  We do not have Cisco ACS.  I am not sure if integrating RADIUS is the answer here either.
    I have had some webex sessions on ISE, NCS, and Prime infrastructure.  We are only interested at the moment to monitor  / control access to Guest.  I have been told that ISE will have "sponsorship" functionality added in soon -- where user fills out info and ID / PW is sent via text or email to a cell phone or other device.
    Any ideas??
    TIA -- Perry

    Steve,
    The employees don't use / need any credentials for the Guest.  The nurse staff / aides have balked at performing what they see as IT responsibilities.   I can actually understand their point....their job is to provide care to the residents.
    IT can't realistically respond to requests at all hours for access to Guest.
    One thought was to see if we can require a name to be on the web-auth form that we can upload and record the corresponding MAC.  The name is not verified against AD or anything  -- more to track and see if the MAC associated "moves"  across the network -- which would signal that it is likely an employee using a smartphone.
    But we still need a way to specifically block a MAC while allowing the default permit in WCS.  As I mentoned earlier, the default seems to be block MACs and permit specific MACs in the list....

  • Guest LDOM disk access through multiple IO domains

    Hi All,
    I am working on a configuration, wherein the boot disk to the Guest LDOM is being provided through an image file hosted on a VxVM diskgroup (vmdg1). The configuration has another copy of the same image file being provided through another VxVM diskgroup (vmdg2)l through another virtual disk service.
    let me clear the configuration a little more in detail
    A T-5240 server having 2 IO domains configured
    Primary (Control domain + IO domain + Service domain) configuration
    A VxVM diskgrop (vmdg1) having a boot image file
    Secondary (IO domain + Service domain) configuration
    A VxVM diskgroup (vmdg2) having a copy of the boot image file
    these devices are exported through their respective virtual disk services with the same mpgroup name to a guest LDOM. The vdsisk is then assigned to the guest ldom which is using the volume through the primary service.
    When the guest LDOM is started it starts with the disk export through the Primary domain. All writes happen fine. When the VxVM diskgroup is deported from the Primary the Guest LDOM still remains online as starts using the disk image path through the secondary domain.
    I then bring the VxVM diskgroup and the mounts back online on the Primary domain and deport the diskgroup from the secondary domain to see if it failsback to the image through the Primary domain. The Guest LDOM now is in a hung state and does not allow access through the local console or through network logins.
    Has anyone see such a problem? Also is it recommended to use disk based image as a backend device in mpgroups through "ldm add-vdsdev" ?
    TIA,
    Sudhir

    As far as I know then only way to "re-balance" the I/O across the domains is to unbind/bind the guests. Not a great answer, but this could be done as part of the guests patching cycle.
    I think there is an RFE to provide MPxIO-like features to guests.

  • Access to Guest Folder requires login when accessed from Portal/SSO

    We have wired XML-P to use OID and then registered it as a Partner Application in our Portal/SSO server (which also uses the same OID instance). All works well except now when we try to access the Guest folder from within Portal the SSO login screen pops-up. We have created a very simple HTML/URL portlet that points to the Guest folder and the idea is for users to have Public/anonymous access to this folder. Any ideas?

    Hi,
    You can try to enable "Turn on password protected sharing" in Network Sharing Center. After that, only people with a user name and password on the computer will be able to log into shared network folders.
    Another workaround method you can try:
    Open Run, type rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr, then Press
    Enter.
    In the prompt dialog, choose and delete the user account used to network sharing.

    Hi,
    Please refer to the following post to see whether you can resolve the issue.
    Network Adapter (not Legacy) does not work on Virtual Machine after installation through ISO

    By the way, did you only encounter this issue with one VM or all VMs? Please do the same test on VMs with other version of Windows such as Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003.

  • Qemu-kvm: network access from host to guest

    I need ssh and http access from my host (Arch) to the guest (other Linux). I've failed at setting up Tap networking as described in the wiki. I don't need to have the whole LAN access the guest, so is there another way the host can access the guest? Using the guest's IP of 10.0.2.15 doesn't work, but I'm hoping there is a way to do it.
    Thanks.

    Mr.Elendig wrote:Bridging is the best way todo it, so you should give us some more info on your atempt at it, so that we can help you fix it.
    Ok, I've followed the instructions from the wiki.
    One problem is that I'm on a laptop. eth0 is wireless and eth1 is wired. I chose to use eth1 since I thought it'd be easier to get working on one device before trying to make it work on both.
    1. bridge and tun modules are loaded from rc.conf
    2. In /etc/conf.d/bridges I have this:
    bridge_br0="eth1"
    BRIDGE_INTERFACES=(br0)
    3. In /etc/rc.conf I changed my networking portion to this:
    eth1="eth1 up"
    br0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth1 br0)
    4. In /etc/udev/rules.d/65-kvm.rules I have this:
    KERNEL=="tun", NAME="net/%k", GROUP="kvm", MODE="0660"
    5. My user is part of the kvm group, although I have also tried running qemu-kvm as root.
    6. In /etc/qemu-ifup I put:
    #!/bin/sh
    echo "Executing /etc/qemu-ifup"
    echo "Bringing up $1 for bridged mode..."
    sudo /sbin/ifconfig $1 0.0.0.0 promisc up
    echo "Adding $1 to br0..."
    sudo /usr/sbin/brctl addif br0 $1
    sleep 2
    7. Using visudo I added this to the bottom:
    Cmnd_Alias QEMU=/sbin/ifconfig,/sbin/modprobe,/usr/sbin/brctl,/usr/bin/tunctl
    %kvm ALL=NOPASSWD: QEMU
    8. I launch qemu-kvm with the following script:
    USERID=`whoami`
    IFACE=`sudo tunctl -b -u $USERID`
    qemu-kvm -net nic -net tap,ifname="$IFACE" -vga std -m 1024 -k en-us -usbdevice tablet -localtime /dev/sda
    sudo tunctl -d $IFACE &> /dev/null
    My system starts with br0 getting the dhcp IP on boot, so that part is working.
    When I run the qemu-kvm start script I get this error (running as user or root):
    /etc/qemu-ifup: could not launch network script
    Could not initialize device 'tap'
    /etc/qemu-ifup is executable

  • Cluster in a box with Guest LDOMs : SCSI-3 reservations are not supported

    Hello,
    I recently installed the Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.1 in  two simple Guest LDOMs (OVM for SPARC 3.1) with  one T5140 server and  SE 7110 as a shared storage. The some  SE 7110 whole LUNs mapped as VDS devices to both LDOMs. After initial installation of Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.1 I observed issues with quorum device -  both nodes cannot get SCSI3 (default) persistent reservation keys information at same time - only one node can be able to scrub. After switching cluster's global fencing option to "nofencing" (with "software" quorum implementation) both nodes can access quorum device successfully. So I can conclude that SCSI3 PGRs are not supported in this cases.
    Unfortunately I didn't find any official and nonofficial documents info regarding this limitation. Could you please confirm or decline my suggestion.
    Thanks.

    I am answering on my question by itself
    Planning the Oracle Solaris OS - Oracle Solaris Cluster Software Installation Guide
    Fencing – Do not export a storage LUN to more than one guest domain on the same physical machine unless you also disable fencing for that device. Otherwise, if two different guest domains on the same machine both are visible to a device, the device will be fenced whenever one of the guest domains halts. The fencing of the device will panic any other guest domain that subsequently tries to access the device.

  • A solution to no network access in guest OS

    Hi.
    Host OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 / Hyper-V
    Guest OS: Windows Server 2008 R2
    Had a problem with "no network access" in guest OS.
    However, as many others could not get rid of the Virtual Network card in Device Manager (which also seems to manage the LAN Connection object under Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings)
    After a few hours this seems something like what you need to do to get rid of the faulting Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter ... so the Guest OS can automatically reinstall it. These steps worked for me:
    Probable Prerequisites:
    0)
    - The host OS runs the Virtual Network Switch on one of the physical network adapters or on the same adapter (if there is only one). In my case I run on the 2nd physical adapter.
    - Hyper-V Virtual Network manager has a virtual network on one of those adapters.
    - The VM with the guest OS is bound to the virtual network
    1) Event log > System probably has an event saying something is wrong with the Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter and you need to reinstall it (but how!!!)
    Fix Guest OS LAN Connection:
    1.a) Hyper-V Manager Actions:
    Hyper-V Manager > Shutdown or turn off the Guest OS in
    Hyper-V Manager > VM Guest OS > Settings > Network Adapter remove
    1.b) Hyper-V Manager VM GUest OS States:
    { No network adapter available for guest OS }
    2.a) Hyper-V Manager Actions:
    Hyper-V Manager > VM > Start VM Guest OS
    2.b) Guest OS States:
    { DM > Virutal network card and Network and Sharing Center > Connection LAN is strangely still available even though the virtual network adapter hardware was removed in step 1 }
    3.a) Guest OS Actions:
    Go to Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings > "LAN Connection" object > Properties
    Click every protocol etc. and click the uninstall button
    3.b) Guest OS States:
    { The LAN Connection object is gone under Network and Sharing Center }
    { The Network card is gone under Computer Administration > Device Manager }
    4.a) Guest OS Actions:
    cmd > Run as Administrator >
    set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
    devmgmt
    In device manager goto the network node and uninstall all references to Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter
    (In my case I used the guest os for a Windows Backup sysrecovery because of changes in the disk layout thus I also had some additional references now visible to the previous physical network adapters and uninstalled them as well)
    4.b) Guest OS states:
    { Device Manager > Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter not present }
    5.a) Hyper-V Manager Actions
    Shutdown VM Guest OS
    VM Guest OS > Settings > Add Virtual network adapter for external network
    Start VM Guest OS
    5.b) Guest OS States:
    { Guest OS ready for plug and play installation of Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter }
    { Device Manager > Network Adapters > Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter is installed and activated }
    { Network and Sharing Center > Connection LAN object is installed and activated }
    { LAN is connected with network access through the Virtual Network switch in the Host OS }

    Thank you for the post. After searching for weeks on end and trying all kinds of solutions, I was finally able to resolve the issue by removing the "Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus" from the Guest machine on Hyper-V.
    No matter what change I was applying I kept getting the "169" based IP.
    My host system is "Windows 8.1 Pro" with Hyper-V role enabled and my guest machine is "Windows 8 Enterprise". I was starting to question if it's the enterprise machine that may be an issue, but glad this is resolved.
    Thank you for the solution.

    Hello,
    I am installing solaris 10 u4 on guest ldom using DVD media loaded in the physical server. When I create a third guest Ldom ldg2 , and issued the command
    ldm bind ldg2
    I receive this error
    Unable to bind console client vcons0
    After spending some time to resolve this issue i set the mau to 0 on ldg3
    and unbound the domain and again executed a bind on ldg2 - it worked this time.
    Has any one encountered this error earlier , I am aware of the fact that adding an mau to the control domain will prevent dynamic reconf of resources , but does adding an mau to guest ldom prevents you from binding other ldoms ? your thoughts are appreciated .

    Hi, did you get the same error message about being unable to bind the console client?
    The mau count has no bearing on the ability to bind other domains; only the ability to perform cpu DR on the domain that has the maus bound. The real determining factor is probably whether the other guest domain is bound or not. My hypothesis is that the LDom Manager is incorrectly concluding that there's a conflict for the console's TCP port, which is exactly the problem described in CR 6596652.
    Can you also confirm that you specifically issued the ldm destroy & ldm create commands to completely destroy & recreate the domain that won't bind?
    Thanks.

  • Bug? Raw+Jpeg imports from an iPad mini

    Hi Everyone
    I've come across a very strange importing issue with iPhoto 9.6 (910.29). I'm always on the go so I use my iPad mini as photo storage until I gain access to a computer. I’d take my pictures on the camera and then I’ll plug the sd card to the iPad and copy everything that is on the card (via the Apple Lightning to SD card Camera reader).
    I take pictures in (1) RAW only, (2) RAW+Jpeg and (3)Jpeg only.
    When I import from the camera to the MacBook Pro directly via USB:
    all the 3 formats are properly imported.
    When I import from the iPad in iPhoto:
    The pictures shot in (1) RAW only and (3)Jpeg only are imported properly
    But when I import the (2) RAW+Jpeg ones, iPhoto will only import the Jpeg versions and will give me the error message "Unreadable file: The following files could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format" for the RAW versions of the same image.
    Here is what I do not understand:
    - The RAW format that my camera uses (.RW2 for Panasonic FZ1000) is supported so there shouldn't be any issue.
    - (1) RAW only pictures are correctly imported
    - all formats are correctly imported when importing directly from the camera.
    It seems this bug only affects RAW+Jpeg imports from the iPad?
    Has anyone come across this issue before and if so, is there a fix or workaround? It is not that much of an issue as the RAW only files can still be imported from the iPad but I find this issue very curious.
    Thanks in advance for the help.

    Not sure about the fix but the workaround is to not shoot Raw+Jpeg, which is pretty pointless anyway, as importing the Raw to iPhoto means it creates a Jepg preview, so you end up with Raw +Jpeg+Jepg...

    I'm running OVM 3.0.3 so I think it should support mapping raw LUNs dynamically. The error comes up after the "Disk order" option while editing the VM. I've made sure to check the "Do not change network settings" option.
    Has anyone seen this error before?
    Thanks

    That error is showing up because its saying your trying to modify the lowest disk index (0) which is considered a boot drive. Try adding the LUN to another slot and see if it lets you.
