RAW NEF files in Aperture from Nikon Capture editing show no edits

Any NEF files that I have previously edited and re-saved in Nikon Capture Editor as a NEF file, do not display any of the changes when imported into Aperture. I only see the 'As Shot' version.
Interesting that the Finder in OS X shows the thumbnail correctly. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Thanks, Scott K.

According to Scott Kelby, in an ancient treatise from when he was currying favor with Nikon, that's how NEFs work, and that's the beauty of most proprietary raw handlers. Capture's adjustments are merely instructions, saved along with the file, rather like adjustment layers. When you open the NEF in Nikon Capture, the instructions are added to the image. You can always cancel them and recover the original since nothing has actually been done to the original. Your preview thumbnail out of Capture is designed to exhibit the changes but I'm not surprised Aperture doesn't read the changes made in Capture.
If you saved out of Capture as a TIFF, aperture would see them.

The above list show the current camera models supported by Adobe Camera Raw (plugin for PS CC) and Lightroom 5.3.
You will see that the Df Raw support was provided in the latest version of LR 5.3.   Support for the D300s was introduced in LR 2.5. (the NEF files are different.)
Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw can only be updated after the camera manufacturer has produced the camera and made it publicly available. If you are using an earlier version of Lightroom then that is your problem.
Please post details of the version you are using at present.

Clarification: this is a user forum; you are not addressing Adobe here.
The answer to your question as phrased is: never.
CS5 is history and it is not longer supported.  There will not be any updates or bug fixes for CS5.
You need to convert the raw NEF files from your D810 to raw DNGs using the free, standalone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 RC (beta), the first version ever to support that camera..

  • Raw (NEF) files from Nikon D7100 - Work on Elements 10

Has a update or patch been made for using raw (NEF) files from Nikon's D7100 camera?

Photoshop Elements 10 does support Adobe Camera Raw 6.4.1 to 6.7 and minimum requirement for Nikon D7100 is ACR 7.4.

You need to upgrade to PSE11 or can convert the NEF files to DNG and import into PSE10.

  • Import of RAW (NEF) files from Nikon D 90

    Hi there:
    > I am new to lightroom and just got a 30 days trial version. I desperately try to import directly RAW (NEF) files into lightroom 2. I have downloaded Adobes latest RAW converter. I also checked all available support areas (hope at least I found them all and also read Adobe's and Nikon's memorandum of understanding of working closer together in the future, but I am looking for help now..) I use a MacBook Pro Leopard...
    Can anybody help?

You will need the 2.1 RC1 beta to use the D90 files. I don't know if you can
    patch the trial or not.
    http://labs.adobe.com
You can download the beta 2.1 there.

I believe you need PSE11 with the Camera Raw plug-in 7.1 or newer.

I can open NEF files in Camera Raw but Im not seeing tumbs in finder !
Also I cant see them in preview too.

Well, I don't know what the problem actually is in the first place, it should work as is, I think something is messed up with the present driver and replacing it would perhaps get around that problem.
It seems like I'd be adding one more layer of complexity to the Vista machine...
Not sure how the Vista machine is involved in this, since these are drivers for the Mac.
Though to involve the Vista Machine, One option not mentioned yet is MacDrive for you PCs... allows them to Read/Write HFS+...

  • Importing Nikon RAW .nef files into iPhoto

I am using iPhoto 8.0.3. I can import RAW .nef files from my D90 without a problem. I also scan my older slides/negs using a CoolScan V and saving those files as RAW .nef format. Problem is that iPhoto does not recognize the .nef files that are scanned. Anybody have some thoughts? I can convert the scanned files into jpg using Nikon View and then bring them in to iPhoto, but would prefer to leave them in the RAW format so I don't have replicant files all over the place.

iPhoto will only work with RAW files on this list
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475
Unfortunately there are no Scanners on the list.

  • Nikon Df RAW (NEF) files will not load previews into Lightroom 5.4. Nikon d300s RAW (NEF) files load just fine. Df files do not.

Nikon Df RAW (NEF) files will not load previews into Lightroom 5.4. Nikon d300s RAW (NEF) files load just fine. Df files do not.

    Thank you for your response.
I have loaded directly into Lightroom using import and via Nikon Capture NX2. RAW files display fine in Capture.
In Lightroom, blank previews are created for each available image, with the message "Preview unavailable for this file."

  • How to Install Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera

I need someone to walk me through how to install a Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera.
I haven't used photoshop in ages and I got a new camera. I have been on the phone with Adobe (no help) and spent a couple of hours online trying to figure this out. I'm confused, frustrated and about to throw my computer out the window.
Also, I placed this in the "Photoshop for Beginners" since Photoshop CS5 doesn't appear anymore. I know CS5 is outdated but I spent hundreds of dollars on this program and you would think adobe would still honor its product.
    Any guidance is much appreciated.
    AJ

Odds are cs5 is too old. If you do a search on my the main Adobe website there is a list of compatible cameras for the last known update to camera raw for cs5.
Each version of Photoshop only gets so many updates for camera raw then it is necessary to upgrade Photoshop to get the next update for camera raw.
So you currently have 4 choices.
    1 upgrade Photoshop
2 get Lightroom - latest version
3 get Photoshop elements -latest version
4 get dng converter - this will download the latest version an is the only option that is free.
The dng converter can be found by searching Adobe website.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Photoshop Elements 8.0 will not open Nikon D610 RAW .NEF files

I am using Photoshop Elements 8.0; just purchased a Nikon D610 and when I try and open the RAW .NEF files I get error message saying wrong file type.

    Hi,
Nikon D610 is supported in ACR 8.3 (adobe camera raw version 8.3) while PSE8 is quite old. You may convert to DNG and then process converted DNGs in PSE8. For 8.3 DNG converter, see http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694

  • Nikon NEF files and Aperture 2

Can anyone advise how to allow adjustments to NEF files in Aperture 2?
I just bought a Nikon D700 after using a Canon w/out problems for years.
I imported to iPhoto and then to Aperture. All the files appear in view but adjustments are ghosted out and it says are "not enabled".
I have NX2 but find it clunky and would prefer to use Aperture.
I'm appealing for help after spending nearly all weekend trying to get it to work.
    Very grateful for any advice!

I would guard against upgrading to Ap 3, particularly if you are running 10.6.4, unless you are willing to face head on the issues raised in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2470180&tstart=15&start=0.

  • Had my Nikon D600 recently in for the updated service call. Camera works fine but Photoshop says it cannot open my RAW (NEF) files now? It worked fine before and I have done all my updates.

The only thing I can think of is if you got a replacement D610 as rumored here:
    http://nikonrumors.com/2014/01/27/nikon-is-replacing-some-d600-cameras-with-new-d610-model s.aspx/
In that case, you would need the new version of Camera RAW or DNG converter as per Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras .
The other thing to check is if the files open in the Nikon native ViewNX software. If they don't it's time to call the service center.

  • Nikon RAW NEF files have white balance blown out (iPhoto 7.1.4)

I had no problems opening my Nikon D200 RAW NEF files in iPhoto until about a month ago. I think I downloaded a patch for compatibility of camera files? After that when ever I open A raw file, the colors and white balance are blown out.

I was unable to get my images to appear as I shot them. I shoot with a Nikon D80 and shoot with a Vivid setting. Now after shooting a wedding of more than 1500 images I have to find a way to color correct them all. I have attempted the downgrade to the previous version, unsuccessful. I have forwarded on my comments to apple and find that this issue effects tens of thousands of photos. As a MFA student at a major university, and studying color management and workflow, I feel I need to look elsewhere for file management as iPhoto is not able to do the job and the fact that it affects my entire library system of photos... simply unacceptable. I have always found the discussion groups extremely helpful, but this issue has effected so many of us and is such a huge integral part of the photographic process that I need to look to other programs to effectively handle my color management.
    Disappointing.
