RAW photo storage

Just wondering if the iPod Classic stores RAW format photos. I'm looking for a high-capacity portable storage device for a photo-heavy trip.

Forget my above post. I just found my problem. I export my photo's to my Zenfolio account using Jeffrey Friedl's "Export to Zenfolio" plugin and it is sending a reduced size JPEG copy of my export to the orginal folder.
Thanks anyway,
Dave Brady

  • RAW & JPEG IN PHOTO STORAGE FOLDER

I just noticed in my photo storage folders, I have both a raw file and a jpeg file with the same photo number. The jpeg photo is the revised photo of the original raw file. Is this correct? I just noticed this after upgrading to 2.2.
I would assume the raw file is the unaltered file and the jpeg is the altered file that is displayed in Lightroom, but displayed as a raw file.
I hope I have made myself clear on this.
    Thanks

  • How can I move one years worth of Raw photo files to a different hard drive and perserve the edits

How can I move one years worth of raw photo files to a different hard drive (to manage space) and preserve the develope module edits and still see them in  the Library module?

The easiest situation, is where this year's worth of images is grouped physically inside one parent folder (something many people build in from the start, in any case).
If there is a parent folder on disk, but you are not currently seeing that inside LR's Folders panel, you can make this visible to LR by right-clicking on one of the folders which live immediately inside that, and selecting "show parent folder". This gives you a single "handle" by which to manipulate the whole grouping.
Then it is just a matter of moving this parent folder. It's usually as simple as dragging it from one place to another inside LR's Folders panel, however this is a little more difficult when it's a question of another drive which does not yet appear there.
So an alternative method will likely prove more straightforward: physically move the whole year folder into the other drive using your operating system's Explorer/Finder. The folder (and subfolders, and all the contained images) will change with ? icons inside LR, and it all goes "offline". This is because LR's records of where everything is, are known not to currently work (the former location is now not available). But all the edits, thumbnails, keywords, collections etc are still in place because these things are still remembered in the Catalog - and the fullsize previews are still cached also.
Then right-click on the parent folder in LR's Folders (the top folder which shows a "?") and select Update Folder Location. Then browse to the other disk and identify where this folder is now to be found. LR updates all its records and the whole grouping carries on just as before, only using a new  storage location for each image concerned.

  • How can I transfer RAW photos from iphoto to a separate folder. I want to send RAW photos to someone to process.

Hello I use iphoto as my place of storage of my photos.
I want to take some of my RAW photos out of iphoto and plac e them in a different folder to " send" to someone who wants to " edit".
I am not the one who will process the RAW i just want to get the RAW to the person that needs them.  But my RAW are in iphoto
It seems that if i just drag a RAW picture from iphoto to dektop it does not retain its RAW size.
    please advise
I just want to be able to send RAW photos that i have in iphoto to someone who will edit them.

Where are my raw photos and how do I get to them (if anyone knows please explain in very simple terms).
    File -> New Smart Folder
    Photo -> is -> Raw
    will find all your Raws.
As described above, exporting with the Kind set to Original will get them to the Finder.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Raw Photos and photoshop

    Hi all.
i have about 1000 wedding photos i need to review and edit in Photoshop, they are currently on camera cards..
in my experience if i import them the 'normal' route into iPhoto, 1, photoshop doesn't find them and 2, if it does find them, it doesn't like opening them.
whats the best way to get them into a folder for easy access by photoshop so that i can then save them to another folder and export them back out onto a storage device for giving to a printer.  in my current experience and from reading other people's queries on here, iPhoto is not great at playing nice
    many thanks

    Hi there spincat123,
You can you Image Capture to import RAW photos to a folder. Take a look at the section "Get images from your camera via Image Capture" in the article below for more information.

  • Can I use my iPad to store digital RAW photos

I am going on a long trip and don't want to take my laptop. Can I store my RAW photos on my iPad? This would eliminate me having to purchase a Jobo digital photo storage (or similar) device. Thanks!

Yes, in principle you can.  However, be aware that the iPad memory is quite limited, and RAW files can be quite large.  For instance, I shoot a Canon 7D and the RAW files it produces are about 18 MB each.  With sizes like this, even a 64GB iPad will get filled up quickly.
I think you will be better off getting a portable storage device with a larger capacity.  Check out the Hyperdrive Colorspace, which lets you store photos on a separate storage device, but view them on the iPad.  You can add your own hard drive too.

  • Best way to upload RAW photos to internet from iPad

If I am on a trip and 64GB isnt enough storage for my RAW photos (and I am without my MacBook Pro), what is the best way to upload my pics in full RAW format to an internet location. Apps? Best site to store them on in full RAW? Thanks for the help!

I just posted the same question. I also have a 64gb ipad, however, with movies and tv shows, games, apps for the trip, that only leaves 8-9 gbs. I could as you have suggested buy more SD cards for my camera..but was also hoping just to batch load 200-300 photos a day up to internet storage (which I am willing to pay for) and then dump them down when I get home. iDisk will do them 1 at a time, but that's not much of a solution. I have wifi where I am staying, so that isn't an issue. I wouldn't want to use a 3g data plan as the roaming would cost more than the trip. This would just let me bring just my camera & ipad (with camera kit). I was hoping to avoid a laptop too.
Can it just not be done yet? Do I need to lug around my 13" macbook pro as well? My main question is not where can I get internet storage, but how do I get large amounts of photos off the ipad to that storage? idisk, dropbox, etc. Don't seem capable of transfering large amounts of pictures FROM the ipad.
    Thanks!

  • Photo storage solution with ipads only

My wife just bought an ipad to replace her macbook air and I am considering doing the same for my macbook pro (2007 model). At this point the only real issue we have is our aperture library. I am either going to upgrade my macbook pro to a newer model or replace it with my own ipad. My macbook pro is in every way on it's last legs so something needs to be done soon.
    My questions are:
can I have my aperture library on a NAS or migrate my aperture library to iPhoto and have iPhotos library on a NAS?
the follow-up question is if our iPads would be capable of accessing that library to view and edit the photos?
When importing photos from an SD card to an ipad, would the imported RAW photos go straight into the library or would they go onto the iPads storage? we bought a 16gb model so keeping the photos off the ipad is preferred.
We like aperture but our library consists primarily of photos of our kids, so we can downgrade to iphoto easily for our workflow, it's just a question as to if what I want can work and if it cant i'd upgrade my mac book pro to a new model.

    1. No and No. Both apps require the library to be sitting on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    2. No. You're going to need some app that can manage the Library, and that means some mac somewhere with either Aperture or iPhoto and iTunes on it.
    3. Can't help you with this one, sorry.
    Regards

  • Photo storage and delete questions

    Hello there,
I have photoshop cs51 and bridge.  I also have a new version of lightroom (I tried but was unable to download and use the creative cloud versions so had to do separate).  My versions of PS and bridge will not open raw, so i'm using 90% LR and only bringing photos into PS when I need that little extra.  I'm fine doing it that way.  I'm having a huge issue with photo storage and have some questions I'm hoping someone can answer.  Obviosly I'm not very technical, so simple answers work best.
I had LR for months before PS and bridge.  Bridge has imported many of my photos.  If I delete them from bridge, will they be deleted from my computer, or only bridge?  Would it be possible for me to delete the bridge program, as I don't use it?
My one year old Mac is already full and running out of storage.  I've moved my LR catalogues over to a portable HD.  It's my understanding that it 'removes' those photos....but keeps a thumbnail in LR for me to see.  I can only access the photos when they portable HD is connected to my Mac.  However, there is still SO much space being taken up by my photo's.  I'm not sure why.  Should I remove the thumnails from LR?  Do they still take up  a lot of space?
I have been unable to load new photo's due to this issue.  Any help is appreciated!  Thank you!

Bridge does not, like Lightroom, import photos. If you delete an image in Bridge, you delete it from your computer. I don't think you can uninstall Bridge, it's probably part of the Photoshop install.
You should move your photos to the external HD, not the LR catalogs. The catalogs don't take up much space, your photos do. (And, btw, there's no need to have several catalogs, one is usally enough.) But you can leave your catalogs on the external HD if you like.
When you move you photos to the external HD, make sure to keep the original folder structure. If you have a parent folder containing all your photos, the move will be easier. LR will put a question mark on all your files and folder. If you have a parent folder, then right click it in LR, and direct LR to the new location on the external HD.

  • Can't open NEF (Nikon Raw) photos in CS2

Using CS2 on a Power Mac G5, running 10.5.8 with plenty of ram. Photos taken on a Nikon D700 in Raw format and transferred directly from camera to computer using Nikon Transfer. When I try to open a photo marked NEF in Photoshop's Bridge, I get a message that " Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file".
Next, I downloaded Camera Raw 3.7 from Adobe's website and when I click on the icon in my applications folder, I get that same message : "Could not complete your request..."
The only way I can view and work on my raw photos is to convert them to tiffs or jpegs in my Nikon View NX program; But I want to process them in the raw convertor.
    Help!!
    Bob S

You'll need to covert the NEF to DNG to open in Camera Raw. CS2 will never support the D700.

  • Opening RAW photos in PSE 8

I have recently bought PSE 8. When I had my Canon 350D I could use it to edit RAW photos. I have just bought a Canon 550D and PSE 8 cant open any RAW photos now for editing.

I went to the Adobe site and from new downloads found the Camera
Raw 5.7 update for windows. Here is link
    to the pdf instructions
    http://www.adobe.com/special/photoshop/camera_raw/Camera_Raw_5.7_ReadMe.pdf
I created a new folder on desktop and moved the current Camera Raw.8bi file to that folder. then copied the new file in its place. opened elements and bingo it worked perfect.

  • I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Element

I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Elements, I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. I have tried reinstalling Camera Raw many times, and have tried to open many different raw files in Elements, and still get the same error message. Please help.

How did you try to install ACR 8.8.  The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma.  This one tells you what your camera needs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html   This one tells you what version of software you need:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6.  (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13.   Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter.  Download and install it from here for FREE:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890  Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use.  That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.  DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless.  There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality.

  • Send a raw photo from lightroom to photoshop as a smart "object"

how to send a raw photo from lightroom to photoshop as a smart "object" not a flat "image" so it does not flatten the image but so I still get all the adjustments i have made in lightroom to show up in photoshop?

Select the image in Lightroom, choose 'Edit in' from Photo menu then choose 'Open as Smart Object in Photoshop'. The file will transfer to Photohop (Ps) complete with Lr applied edits which can be refined in Camera Raw by double clicking on icon in the Ps Layers panel (see screen shot).

  • RAW photo into Photshop CS5 as a Smart Object.

I am trying to open a RAW photo in Photohsop CS5 as a Smart Object.  I have the photo selected in Bridge.  When I go to execute File>Place in Bridge CS5 the menu entry indicates there should be a menu displayed.  However, clicking on Place does not bring up a menu.
In Photoshop there is open a blank file to receive the photo.
Why do I not receive a menu?

Are you not seeing all the buttons?
Normally I have ACR set to "Open Image" in Photoshop. By temporarily holding down the SHIFT key the "Open Image" button will change to "Open Object"
This is what I did while creating this screenshot. There is also the tool tip showing up in the screenshot.
