RAW photos pixelated in PSE 9 raw converter program.

I just bought a new Nikon D7000 and shot family portraits this weekend. I was shooting in RAW. Upon loading my images into the PSE 9 RAW Converter they are badly pixelated. What went wrong? My jpeg photos look better and that's just plain wrong. I heard I have to sync my camera raw settings to the editing software raw converter settings, but how do I do that?

In the editor, go to Help >Updates and see if it updates camera raw for you.

  • Photo 6 RAW photos don't all open in PSE 6 RAW converter

I have iphoto 6 and PSE 6 installed on an Intel iMac OS X 10.4.11 with: 2GB RAM, 250GB HD and over half of that free.
Recently have begun shooting RAW. From iPhoto I have been editing everything in PSE6 without a problem. To open the RAW photos in the "RAW Converter" I have gone to iPhoto preferences, clicked on Advanced tab, and checked the box "Use RAW file with external editor".
My problem is this: Most of the RAW(NEF) photos in iphoto will open in the RAW converter as they are designed to do when I double click on the thumb nails in iPhoto. However, about 25% of them will not go to the converter. They go, instead, to the regular PSE6 editing window as a JPEG, and nothing I can do will get that photo into the RAW converter. And these are photos from the same series just uploaded to iPhoto6. It makes no sense to me.
What am I missing and what can I do to correct this problem. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks.

    TD
I'm feeling just a little sheepish right now.
It was your statement that it was either a) I'm imagining it or b) it's a very rare problem. I knew it wasn't (a) and I suspected (b) was probably not it either because too often when something is very rare, there is something simple hidden in the problem.
So I did some serious reviewing of the problem. I tried to think of anything I had done to those 3 photos that kept them from opening in RAW converter, when all others did fine. It suddenly occurred to me that I had cropped those three, and would have done it in iPhoto before going to RAW converter. I "Reverted to Original" all three photos, after which I was able to open all of them in RAW Converter without a problem.
So, MANY thanks, TD, for leading me to the solution. And you also taught me some new techniques. Every little bit helps.

  • Why RAW converter 6.5 not uploading in my PSE 9?

    Hi,
I have a camera Canon T3i and am using PSE 9 to work on my photo's. Recently I bought an iMac and uploaded my PSE 9 and the CR2  (RAW) files are not able to be read. It right away makes my photo's JPEG's. I uploaded the RAW converter 6.5 for PSE 9 as suggested by the Adobe page. When I look at where my 6.5 download went to, its sitting in a "downloads" folder in my hard drive...do I need to move this to another location for it to upload into PSE 9?
When I look for upgrades in my PSE 9 program itself it tries to upload the 6.5, but it says there was an error in downloading the update. I have tried to uninstall PSE 9 and re-install it twice now, and the RAW converter version is still 6.1 in my PSE 9.
Help please?? I have been working on this literally for days..without much luck.
    Thanks in advance.
    Anita

Next time you have an installer you can right click on it and select Open and that bypasses the security settings set in the System Preferences.
For example, in your screenshot, right click on the AdobePatchInstaller.App, select Open and the next dialog click Open.
(you can also Control click on the installer to do the same thing)

  • RAW converter, PSE 9 and Windows 8

I've just upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 and now find that when I try and open Canon CR2 files in the PSE 9 RAW converter, I get a message saying PSE can't open the file because it is "the wrong type of file".  TIF and Jpeg files open without any problem, so it seems to be just the RAW converter that is the problem.
Also, when I download pictures from my camera into the Organiser, I am no longer given the option to select only certain images to be downloaded and given a particular folder.  The only route that seems to be available is to download everything on the camera card.
Anybody got any ideas how to solve these two problems?  All suggestions gratefully received.
    Julian

Launch Full Edit and go to the menu:
    Help >> About Plug-in >> Camera Raw
    Check the installed version.
The last update for PSE9 was version 6.5

Would like to purchase PSE 12 to process Camera Raw files for the following cameras: Nikon D800, Nikon DF, Canon G9 and Pentax K-3 does the Raw Converter that comes with  PSE 12 when purchased recognize  the cameras listed in the question or do I need to download  the camera Raw Version 8.3 ?

While the G9 RAW files can be read by Adobe Camera RAW and Lightroom, these file are unsupported at this time. Here is a link to Adobe's latest list of cameras that are supported and this list came out yesterday http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
I have not done a comparison between Lightroom and Canon's software but others have and say that Canon's software is clearly better. I am sure when Adobe updates their software again to include the G9 it will be a very good RAW converter as it is will most other cameras.

  • RAW converter dpi

Our Olympus E-500 writes images in RAW files (.orf) at 314 dpi. The Olympus software opens the .orf files at 314 dpi but Photoshop Elements RAW converter opens the files at 240 dpi.
How do we open the RAW .orf files at it's native 314 dpi??
We have the current version of the RAW converter.
    PSE 5.02
    Win XP
    thank you

There is no "native" resolution. The pixel count is what matters. The DPI setting just tells the software how to print it and is, otherwise, and arbitrary number.
I'm not sure that you can set this number in Camera Raw when hosted by Photoshop Elements. The interface is slightly different and I only see 8/16-bit depth as an option. 240 dpi might be the default (and only) option in Elements.
However, you can change it at any time in Photoshop by going to Image>resize>Image Size and unchecking the "resample image" box and typing in a new number.

  • Question Raw Converter Tool Box Again

I have a question on the
Raw Converter tool box.  When I open some Raw photos, correct them with the Raw Converter Tool Box that automatically comes up with PSE 8,  and then click "Open Images" I am taken to the PSE view screen as if I had opened a JPEG.  The Raw Converter Tool Box then vanishes.  How can I get the tool box back without closing and then reopening the Raw File?  Thanks Robert.

Thanks Barbara B.  Your timely answer was most helpful.

  • RAW convertion

I use a Nikon D40x in RAW mode and am a bit concerned about RAW convertion. If I import RAW into iPhoto, does that alter the picture? I guess it's altered when I start editing or export it as a JPEG.
My question is this: I want to use PSE 6 as an editor and iPhoto as an organiser. If I use Photoshop Elements as my editor of choice in iPhoto, which app converts the RAW file? I just assume PSE does a better job, so I'd like PSE to do it.

    Christian
Read the help on this issue, it explains it quite clearly, and better than I can.
When you import a RAW file, iPhoto makes a jpeg preview of the file. It does not edit it.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
In the iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced be sure to check the box at 'Use Raw when using External Editor
Remember that when you edit a RAW file a new file is always the result, and this file must be saved to the desktop and then imported to iPhoto.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Mac OS-X Raw Converter for Canon produces sometimes wrong colors

I have just acquired a Canon 5D Mark II and I have some problems with the RAW converter supplied with Mac OS. The image is 21 Megapixels and it is the result of a long exposure.
If I use the Canon Digital Photo Professional to produce the JPEG, I get correct results. If I use the
RAW converter supplied by Apple (used in Aperture, IPhoto, and Preview), then the picture has a
mauve-violet color. I can supply the test images along with the JPEG produced by the Canon software.

Sounds like you may want to file a bug report with Apple. You can use Aperture's "submit feedback" button.

  • Has Lightroom been updated with a good RAW Converter that will work with Fujifilm X-T1 RAW files?

    Hello,
I just purchased a Fujifilm X-T1.  The camera produces excellent jpeg files.  However, I prefer processing my work in RAW.  Unfortunately, I'm having trouble deciding to upgrade with Adobe if their RAW converter is not up to par with Fuji.
Fujifilm renders images on their sensors differently than conventional Bayer sensors like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc.  Fuji uses an X-tran sensor with pixels arranged in a different pattern.
This has presents a new challenge because now one has to buy a third party in order to process Fuji RAW files and this disrupts the workflow between Lightroom and Photoshop.
I really love using Adobe and hope they will come up with a fix for this.

  • Canon Powershot S120 Adobe Lightroom RAW converter problem

Have a MacBook running Yosemite. I am an underwater photographer so rely on using White Balance to get colour into my photos. Since upgrading Lightroom from 5.3 or 5.6 to 5.7 all my Canon S120 RAW files change colour after import and become a wishy washy green.  As one moves along the filmstrip, the Histogram shows calculating and all the photos lose their colour, as if the White Balance is being removed. My previous catalogue, same camera, Lightroom 5.3 or 5.6 photos import as they look on the camera. Have discussed with Canon and they think an Adobe Codec RAW converter problem. Do you have additional Codecs for Canon S120? Canon happy to discuss problem.  Their reference: 1-3374995525. Please help.

If you look at the Tint slider with As Shot WB set, you’ll see it is maxed out at 150 for all three of your sample images.
I think this means that LR’s DNG Profiles don’t have the range to entirely neutralize the WB so your images are left with the wrong WB and no way to fix it.
Adobe profiles don’t do a good job in extreme lighting situations, especially with an overabundance of blue light which underwater pictures typically have.
You can mess with the Calibration sliders a bit and get some of the colors to be more like the camera-JPGs have, but some colors will still be different.
If you have an X-Rite color-checker, that you could photograph without getting it wet, then you could make a custom camera calibration profile for that specific lighting scenario and maybe it’d work, but maybe the profiles still can’t extend beyond a certain point.  I am also not sure how you’d keep the color-checker dry underwater.

  • Elements 9 Raw Converter for Nikon D800

When will the update for the Elements 9 raw converter be ready for the Nikon D800?

    Probably never.
You will need the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert your D800 NEF photos to DNG, which can then be opened in PSE9.
