RAW Plist settings for a Canon Powershot S40

I have a lot of RAW Canon .CRW's in iPhoto. I now use Aperture for my Canon EOS 20d, but would like to use Aperture for my old S40 digicam photos.
I tried editing RAW Plist by copying one of the sections (Canon s60). However, white highlights are blown out to fluorescent pink.
Any recommendation as to the correct RAW settings I should edit into RAW Plist?
Thank you.

Hi David,
I work with a Pentax *ist DS which also isn't supported (yet?) in the Raw.plist. I changed the existing entry from Pentax *ist D to Pentax *ist DS which allows Aperture to at least read the raw files... but the colours were not quite correct. However, there is a trick which partially alleviates the problem.
If you look closely at the Raw.plist, you'll find that there are one to several matrices for each model, called m1, m2, mc (and possibly others). Now, the values for at least the m2 matrix can be found in the open source "dcraw" (on which part of Aperture's raw developer appears to be based).
Thus, load the source of dcraw (look it up via google), and find the matrix appropriate for your camera in that code. The numbers given there need to be divided by 1000 (example: 10948 becomes 1.0948). Next, you need to replace the m2 matrix' values in the Raw.plist with those from dcraw, and you're set.
I haven't yet found with what to replace the m1 and mc matrix values. I guess that the various matrices are used by Aperture for various white points (d50, d65, etc) and help Aperture to get the colour of your photos right. However, with the method described above, you'll get rather accurate colour reproduction as long as your white balance settings were correct while you took your photo.
Other camera specific values in the Raw.plist seem to contain the settings for camera-specific noise reduction, sharpening, boost etc. - I don't know anything about these (yet).
Now if somebody could show how to determine the values for the m1 and mc matrices, that would be a great help.
Kind regards,
Karl

  • Canon Powershot s40 RAW support hack WORKS!

Kudos to Jason Pugsley for the following (Powershot G2 data, but it works just fine and dandy for the Powershot S40!!!)
<<< Following copied from Jason's thread on the Powershot G2>>>
This camera is a bit old but if you want to import images in RAW format you can try this hack. Hopefully Apple will have official support soon.
I started with the settings for the already-supported G3. Feel free to modify the values if you've got any idea what they're for...

    Also note,
Powershot S40 CRW's I'd archived within Aperture rendered almost immediately (as did .DNG's based on them). But the RAW adjustment fine tuning did not appear in the Inspector/HUD.
(My assumption on the above is that Aperture initially identified them as non-RAW vs. unsupported, and therefore set a flag somewhere saying that RAW adjustments were not valid).
There is another thread on this for the Nikon D80, so I followed its solution ....
Export the masters, delete masters, re-import the masters!
    All works well!

  • Proper sequence settings for importing Canon Rebel T2i footage

Greetings, all. I searched the forum and didn't find this question answered elsewhere, so I thought I'd ask.
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, version 4.2.1, and I'm trying to find the ideal sequence settings for the Canon Rebel T2i, which records in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, with adjustable frame rate. I am running on Apple Mac OSX 10.8.2.
I've been editing with this footage for over a year now, and it's always been a struggle because I have to render all footage before I can even play it in Premiere. When first imported, the render bar above the timeline is yellow.
I'd like to see if I'm doing this incorrectly; to know if I have a simple sequence setting that's incorrect. What sequence settings should I use for my imported footage to start out green and not require a lengty render for video that isn't even edited yet?
    Thank you,
    -Matt

    >When first imported, the render bar above the timeline is yellow
I think this is written for CS5, but the concept should be the same

  • When will Camera raw be available for processing Canon 7d Mark two in Photoshop Elements 12

When will Camera raw be available for processing Canon 7d Mark two in Photoshop Elements 12?

    Hi,
    Probably never.
PSE 13 is now out and updates are usually only compatible with the latest version - ACR 8.6 didn't even make it for PSE 12.
ACR 8.7 for PSE 13 should probably include support but we don't know when it will be released.

  • Updated Camera Raw File for CS2 / Canon Powershot G10

I am still using Photoshop CS2, but unfortunately I need the updated Camera Raw file (v5.6) for use with the Canon Powershot G10, and it appears the unless I upgrade to CS4 I won't be able to view any RAW files shot with this camera.
Is there an updated Camera Raw version for the Powershot G10 that is still supported under CS2?
    Thanks!

ACR 5.4 was released last night and it requires CS4.  That is the latest and current version of Camera Raw.
5.6 probably won't appear until next year.
If you download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 5.4, you can convert the raw files from your camera to raw DNG files you can then open in ACR 3.7 hosted by CS2.

  • Now Here! Support for the Canon PowerShot G1

After much trial and error, I have figured out how to support the Canon PowerShot G1.
I started with the settings for the hacked un-supported G2 (thanks to user jpugsley for this message: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=262930). Then I read the source code to the open source dcraw.c command line raw convertor. There I found Adobe's translation values for the G1 which has a CYGM filter array. I'd say this opens up opportunities for many other CYGM cameras to be supported.
The premul values seem to affect the color balance of the images. Adjusting the values very slightly may be helpful. I don't know what most of the other values are. The m2 array values came from dcraw.c You probably shouldn't touch those.
The images seem to open fine in Preview and Aperture. I hope Apple officially supports this camera soon (Aperture 1.1?).

All you have to do is paste the following XML into this file (make sure you save a backup of the file first). Rebooting is NOT needed:

    This is stellar.
Thanks. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be... I didn't think it was possible at first.
    is this in fact all
there is to supporting a new camera RAW format --
providing a translation array in a plist file?
What follows is pure speculation... I really don't have a solid understanding of this at all.
Seems like all you have to do is get these Camera->XYZ trans values (trans may stand for transform or translate). The image is essentially monochrome with color filters over it. Some cameras use RGB filters, looks like Apple has supported a lot of those. Some are CYGM, so far Apple hasn't supported any of those. Apple has supported the Sony DSC F828 which is RGBE where E stands for Emerald. Total guess, but each set of three values in the m2 array is associated with a color. (9 total for RGB and 12 for CYGM and RGBE). Guessing, each of these sets of three values probably is used to calculate a response curve for each color.
Basically, when dcraw.c provided twelve values, I began to poke around Raw.plist and discovered the Sony F828 camera also had 12 values in its m2 array. It also had 4 premul (pre-multiplier) values, one for each set of 3 m2 values. So I took a leap of faith that CYGM could be supported because after all, a color is just a color. Does the computer really care if the value represents emerald or magenta? This produced a promising image but color was way off. I had to then tweak each premul value to bring the color in. Those values don't seem to be linear. A minor adjustment can either dramatically change everything or have no noticeable effect.
Are all RAW formats essentially supported via simply a
declarative filter array, or did it just happen to
work for G1 RAW, and other formats are different?
My amateur guess is many cameras are similar and a few stand out as different. For example, I'm guessing the Foveon cameras are an example of a different sort of RAW file. Thats just a guess based on looking at dcraw.c.
if this is all there is to
supporting a new RAW format, I wonder
    - why more of the RAW formats weren't supported in the first place.
To get you to buy a fancy new camera on the Apple Store? Lazyness? Not enough time? Lack of cooperation from the manufacturer? All of the above?
    - why RAW formats haven't been progressively added
    since the Aperture release.
Seems like they could have had support for dozens of additional cameras. This took me only a matter of hours to figure out. Someone with a deep understanding could have done this in minutes.
The real time sink is when you almost have the colors correct and you are endlessly tweaking trying to get them perfect... as you will see, the colors will be fine in certain exposures and way off in others. Look at daylight vs. tungsten photos. It may take many hours to get the values of the camera correct to customers exacting standards. We, the photographers, are very picky.
Why don't we just contact Canon, Nikon, etc. and get
    their translation values?
There are values for 83 additional cameras that aren't supported by Apple in the dcraw.c file. That's a place to start.

  • What are the correct settings for the Canon 5D mark II in FCP 7 ?

I am shooting full HD at 23s97 fps.. tried making a preset for the Canon but when I import fils FCP always wants to change to appropriate settings for this file type but doesn't tell me what that is...
    (latest firmware installed)
Please, can someone provide all the correct settings for me?
And also, why doesn't the camera show up on the desktop/in the menus when attached to the mac? I have ro use EOS utility every time I want to get anything off of the camera... and FCP doesn't see it either. That's just not right - FCP MUST recognise my camera!! : (
Please help - I don't want to start editing until I have the right settings for this footage.
    Thanks
    Jim

    Welcome to the Boards
Not sure what you mean with the following, looks like a word dropped?
I have ro use EOS utility every time I want to get anything off of the camera...
Anyway, some more specs on your system could help point where the issue is. With the new Plug-In by Canon you can Log & Transfer from the Flash Card (not sure how you connected the camera.) Alternatively you could just drag the files in (but make sure to keep all files such as THM in case you use Log and Transfer later.)
Generally it is best to transcode to Pro Res to be able to work with the files in Final Cut. (Log & Transfer should do that, or using Compressor/Mpeg Streamclip.)
It (Final Cut) is probably changing the timeline to match the codec, or depending on your last preset used, just switching things around. In other words if you were editing in DV and had a set up for that, new sequences would default to that and if you try to ad anything else you will get the message.
Take a look at the search over there -> to look for the Canon 5D threads for some more info.
What I would do is just pull one of the clips in to start and look at what the sequence settings are aftr Final Cut changes them for you - they should be fine generally, though you will want to change Codecs to Pro Res.
I like just batch conversion of all my clips from the 5D Markk II and then work from there. (I do not hook up the camera to the computer, just use a card reader.)

  • Camera Raw Sharpening Settings for Landscapes

    Hi
Would anyone be so kind as to tell me if they have their own preferred sharpening (Detail) settings for sharpening landscapes in Camera Raw, and what these settings are.
Also if you have sharpening settings for other photographs I would also be very grateful for them. Maybe there is a guide out there that gives suggested sharpening parameters for the Detail tab that someone may know of?
Thanking you in advance for any anticipated help you can give me here.

The short answer is to dial in what looks right.  Sometimes that's NO sharpening.  Only experience will tell you what will work best in YOUR post processing workflow.  You have to experiment some to arrive at your own best practices.
May I suggest some additional things that I've found to be useful:
    1.  Convert to a resolution higher than the native camera photosite count.  In other words, if you're shooting a 10 MP camera, convert to the 17 MP size.
    2.  Determination of a good conversion sharpening value will depend on what you're going to do with an image.  You might, for example, choose to dial in a LOT of sharpening during conversion if you're going to immediately downsize an image greatly for web display.  Or you might dial in very little if you have a sophisticated sharpening tool you're going to use later.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you copy and paste camera raw filter settings for video?

I have just learned how to use the camera raw filter for color correcting my video clips. Is there a way to copy the settings for one clip and apply it to another? How do you do this?

  • Anybody use a camera harness for the Canon PowerShot S X 40?

Love the camera. I need a harness to keep it handy on hikes & when cross country skiing.

You didn't mention what cameras you tried and were dissapointed with, but since you mention that you may go with a better setup later this year, you can buy a used SD890 IS at http://www.keh.com/camera/Canon-Digital-Point-and-Shoots/1/sku-DC059991017580?r=FE. If that link doesn't work, then try http://www.keh.com/Camera/format-Digital/system-Canon-Digital/category-Point-and-Shoots?s=1&bcode=DC... for the main website. As far as the new Canon PowerShot ELPH cameras, I think the ELPH 330  HS might be the new equivalent of your camera with a few upgrades, such as a longer zoom range. All the new ELPH cameras lack the optical viewfinders, but some now include wifi.
The S110 is an excellent compact camera but is replaced by the S120. But since it is the 'older" model, the price is about $150.00 less. Small and lightweight, it has a larger sensor than the ELPH cameras and full manual control for getting more out of the camera. It lists for about $300.00, but you should be able to find them for less on the internet.

  • Camera raw 7.3 for CS4 - Canon 6d

    Hi,
Where can I download camera raw 7.3 update for CS4 to read CR2 files from Canon 6d?
    Thanks.
    Marko

Camera Raw version 7.x, including 7.3 of course, does NOT run in CS4.
Forget about that, you will never be able to open raw files from that camera directly in CS4, as it has been discontinued for years and there will be no further updates to it.
Your choices are to upgrade to at least CS6, or to download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.1, install it, launch it and convert your CR2 raw files to  raw DNG files that you can then open in CS4.
Note that the DNG Converter works only on the folders that contain the raw files.  It will not see the individual files contained therein.

  • Final Cut Pro Settings For AVCHD Canon HFS100

    Hi friends,
I am new to Final cut pro and digital video. I just purchased a Canon HFS 100 and am shooting in 30p and am going to be editing on FCP 6.0.1. From Easy Setup on FCP I have changed the FORMAT to HD, RATE to 29.97 and USE to DVCPRO HD -1080p30. Will this be the most favorable settings if I want to make high quality HD videos for the web. Or should I leave it on FCP Easy Setup default which is FORMAT: all formats, RATE: all rates and USE: Custom Setup.
    Thanks.

  • How do I set my printer settings for a Canon Pixma MX870?

I have installed and updated the drivers.
It currently prints out coloured, one sided pages. I prefer two sided, B&W quick print settings.
I need a step by step run through on were to find these settings.
On my Brother's PC he has 'Canon My Printer' which is were he set up the setting for his computer. It was not on the instualtion disc for the printer and I can't seem to find the download on the Canon website.
Im on OS X Lion 10.7.4.
    Please Help.

I knew that was going to be an issue. Renaming the audio files. To change the name of an audio file do it within the project. You want to go to the media bin. where your audio files are. _WITH IN THE PROJECT_. You can just double click on them and rename them. and yes be very name specific. so no audio file ever has a chance to have the same name.
The audio files in the bin are in there own separate folders. You want to rename the folder that contains the audio file to, eg, Mary had a little lamb kick drum take 752. The renamed audio file folder will reflect in the timeline and in your project audio folder. But now the audio file can have a different name than the folder, the next is least important, but you may just want your track to be called Kick. So you can double click on the track header and give it a name kick. then you can right click on the audio in the timeline of the corresponding track and select, Track names to regions. Now the track name, the region within the timeline, and the region within the Mary had a little lamb kick drum take 752 folder within the bin will have the name kick. but wait there's more, lol. just kidding.
So maybe the case is now that you don't really want to put all audio files from all songs in one folder, just all audio files from one song into one folder right.
This way each song has its own folder containing the audio. This is standard practice. Its just a given when you create a project.
