RAW Processing for 5D - Seems very good.

Hi,
I'm finding that that my RAW images in Aperture 1.5 require very little tweaking - sometimes none at all. Anyone else finding that they are doing less to their RAW files than what they have in the past ?
Paul

I don't know how much you may have been using Boost, but I find myself using more Boost with 1.5 than with previous verisons. Maybe they made it a nicer looking/subtler effect? With my Canon XT, I used to use 0-50% boost, depending. Now I use 50%-80%.
Following that train of thought, if Boost is nicer looking and you're using Apple's RAW settings for the 5D, maybe you're benefiting from the potentially better boost. Not sure...
Anyone else notice a change in boost?

  • HT3946 Raw processing for Fuji X1 Pro

Raw processing for Fuji X1 Pro - when can we expect it to be supported in Aperture

This is a user forum, so none of is will know officially; you probably have found already the list of raw formats supported by Aperture: http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
Apple has been rather quick with adding raw support for pro cameras lately, so keep your fingers crossed.
Use the feedback form in the Aperture " - menu > Provide feedback to Apple" to ask for speedy raw support.

  • RAW processing for the new Sony a77MKII

I really do not want to with to Lightroom as I am very happy working in Aperture  BUT it is not supporting my RAW files from my new camera.  Just wondered if there was any tricks or if there is a update for RAW files coming very soon.
    Hope someone can help
    Adam

It is crazy that no update has come yet.  My only worry is that I am waiting for an update that is not coming!  With the new Photo app on the cards and apple not continuing aperture I hope they are not stopping their RAW updates as there has not been an update for a good 6 weeks now!

  • Lightroom CC for Windows seems VERY glitchy.

For example, when clicking on the command to crop, the picture goes blank for about a second before reappearing. Moving from photo to photo takes a very long time.   And my trial message says "30 days left in Lightroom Mobile trial" even though this is a Windows 7 computer.   What could cause these?  Has anyone else experienced the same?

    Hi, Northern603
There's a lot of discussion about the new Lightroom CC glitches and possible solutions in the main Lightroom forum here. Perhaps one of those discussions has a solution for your issues.

  • New download of Firefox v. 3.6 for Vista seems very slow. Can anyone think of why this would happen?

    April 5th, 2011:
First, I didn't install Firefox 4 because it doesn't support Norton 360 and the related toolbar which is crucial to me. So I installed 3.6 which I have used before which was corrupted by a Trojan virus I was infected with. I had to uninstall everything and in the interim I used IE8. I re-installed Firefox 3.6 yesterday and the only add-on I installed was the Yahoo! Toolbar for Firefox.
    Added on April 6th, 2011:
Also, I forgot to add that often times I am waiting while the top of the screen says "Mozilla Firefox" - (Not Responding) which is what I went through with IE8. I'm getting VERY frustrated.
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this question as I am VERY behind in my work due to all of this "mess". :(
    Christine

Norton has released a patch to address incompatibility issues with Firefox 4. See [http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Firefox-4-compatibility-hotfix-is-now-available/td-p/428894 Norton Compatibility patch Firefox 4.0]
If you would like to update to Firefox 4.0, please do that ''before ''you install the Norton patch. Update via Help | Check For Updates preferably.
If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
The '''Browserplus '''plugin you have installed will almost certainly cause Firefox to hang occasionally and it would be wise to disable it via Tools | Add-ons | Plugins.
You also need to update Flash to v10.2.159.1 which also patches a recently discovered Zero Day exploit. See [http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Adobe-releases-security-update-for-Flash-Player-1228930.html Adobe releases security update for Flash Player]
You can update Flash via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Similarly, your Shockwave For Director plugin is also out of date which may cause Firefox to hang if the video requires a newer version. Update that via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
Last but not least, consider disabling the Yahoo ActiveX plugin via Tools | Add-ons | Plugins. ActiveX is a Microsoft technology which is frequently targeted by hackers. By installing it in Firefox, you're comprising the browser's security and potentially exposing your system to attack. Firefox can open any Yahoo page without requiring ActiveX to be installed.

  • RAW support for X-Pro1

Please keep on improving RAW processing for FujiFilm X-Pro1! That camera and its lenses deserve a top notch LR4 workflow and right now us happy X-Pro1 owners dearly miss the processing quality we enjoy with RAW files from our 'other' DSLRs...

I am pretty sure that Adobe is even more concerned with their inability to produce profiles/processing technics necessary to produce matching or superior results for your cameras raw files.
Fact is Fuji has produced a camera with new sensor structure/technology that is different to what has been the norm in the market. Their camera firmware / processing software that they have provided you with is achieving results that meet your needs.
This technology is in a very rapid stage of development and what you are seeing is the competitive nature of the manafacturer and a third party software developer. Fuji are probably proud of their achievement but are probably trying to protect against the entire market becoming aware of their processes.
I am sure all the manafacturers, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony are doing the same, while trying to balance providing info to the third party software developers so that users of their preferred software are happy.

  • Business Process for Invoice receipting

The company is an SME with seven offices distributed around Australia.  Purchase requisitions have a rigorous approval procedure.  The requisitioner needs the correct approval before a purchase order is created.
However we do not have a process for ensuring that the goods have been delivered or services provided when the invoice comes into Finance for paying.  We do not have inventory, very few assets, but do purchase many services.  The only people who can advise if the services have been rendered would be the requisitioner on the requisition.
Is there a business process that can be triggered off by receipt of the invoice?  Is there a workflow to send a request to the requisitioner to acknowledge the Invoice receipt?  Is invoice receipting different from goods receipting?  Is the Goods Receipt non valuated flag on the PO the determining factor for invoice receipting?  Is the transcation for invoice receipting MIGO?  Are there any SAP papers on best practices that are not aimed at cement companies or retail?

    Dear,
    There 2 points:
    1. Service Acceptance Sheet (for services)
    2. Quality notification maintenance in purchase order (for goods receipt).
Please check these 2 options, I hope that these two features can provide answers to you most of your questions.
Invoice receipt is differ from Goods receipt and more over Free items in PO definitely have impact on Invoice receipt.
    Regards,
    Syed Hussain.

Please recommend personal finance software for Mac that allows month to month analysis of spending by categories.  Quicken on a PC was good at this.  Mint seems very limited.

Quicken for Mac 2007 works just fine (and is said to be compatible with Mavericks).  It is often denounced for not being "modern", but when something works, and does everything I want, I need a good reason to switch.
A few years ago (2011), I got that reason when I upgraded OSX and Quicken stopped working due to the absence of Rosetta.  I switched to iBank.  I used it for more than a year.  It was cumbersome, they have no sense of a helpful user interface, but it "works".  I found ONE feature that I liked:  you can attach an image (or any file) to a register entry, so I can save receipts right with the register.
But when Intuit came out with the revised Quicken 2007 for Mountain Lion, I gladly went back.  I found that being able to update stock prices right in the portfolio view (for those not automatically found online) was handy - in iBank you have to generate a report to see the holdings, and then you have to switch to a view of "Securities" then scroll down through that list to find your stock, then "edit" then change the price, then "Save" then go back to reports and re-generate the portfolio view.  Also, if you enter a stock purchase in a Quicken register, the price you paid gets added to the price history for the stock (as of the date of the transaction).  No such help in iBank.  Most of the helpful UI features (like increasing the date with the + key) are glaringly missing in iBank.  I find I am getting no more than about 3-4 keystrokes before having to move the mouse and click.
If you are considering sharing the app on an iPad, Quicken won't work, but I found that iBank for iPad doesn't work either.  The interface is completely different from the Mac version, you can't do much with it, and if you have a stock whose price is $11.25 / share and sell 200 shares, you might find that $22.50 gets added to your cash in the account.  (I actually made a few million dollars when it decided that 200 shares at $11.25  yielded $2,250,000.)  Luckly, I received a refund for that app.
Depending on how the Mavericks switch goes, I hope to be able to stick with Quicken, but I am keeping my records up-to-date in both now, because I can live with iBank.  I will just have to keep an eye on its arithmetic.

  • ACR vs Aperture for Raw Processing

I have been using Lightroom for over a year (including beta versions on my old PC), but have grown tired of it's lack of worthwhile output options. I have a trial version of Aperture and think that it is a far superior product on the management and output side of things, but I am having problems getting my raw files to look good to me.
I could process all the files in Bridge first, then create tiffs or PSDs to import into Aperture, but that would negate have the purpose of Aperture. I need help with an Aperture workflow and probably with raw processing controls in Aperture.
    Specs: 17" MBP with 10.5.1, Aperture 1.5.6
    Camera: Pentax K10D ver 1.3
I typically convert my PEF files to DNG due to better compression in DNG, but have tried using the original PEF with identical results. Any help is appreciated.

I too came back to Aperture after a year of Lightroom's "workflow". It really is possible to match or surpass LR's output. There's a good guide to the adjustment tools here:
    http://www.insideaperture.com/Site/AdjustmentToolGuide.html
Also lots of tips about workflow, etc. here:
    http://www.bagelturf.com/
You probably won't want to spend too much money if you're just using the trial, but Ben Long's book
Aperture Pro training Series: Aperture 1.5 is very good.

Would like to purchase PSE 12 to process Camera Raw files for the following cameras: Nikon D800, Nikon DF, Canon G9 and Pentax K-3 does the Raw Converter that comes with  PSE 12 when purchased recognize  the cameras listed in the question or do I need to download  the camera Raw Version 8.3 ?

While the G9 RAW files can be read by Adobe Camera RAW and Lightroom, these file are unsupported at this time. Here is a link to Adobe's latest list of cameras that are supported and this list came out yesterday http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
I have not done a comparison between Lightroom and Canon's software but others have and say that Canon's software is clearly better. I am sure when Adobe updates their software again to include the G9 it will be a very good RAW converter as it is will most other cameras.

  • When ever I launch my safari, it will stay on for about a minute and then quits on me. It has a "safari quit unexpectedly" dialog box with a bunch of codes that I can send a report to apple. im not very good with this kind of thing, plz help!

Im not very good at troubleshooting, but I have played around with the system preferences. My airport connection is fine as well as the ethernet. Firewall says its not connected, (im not sure if that matters or not?)
I have subtracted my network from the list, restarted, and then put it back and and restarted...nothing seems to be working. Iam in the middle of a correspondace course and i really need my internet back...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Then GULP, check for this...
Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

I just bought Elements 6 for Mac.  I also recently bought a Leica Dlux 4 camera and would like to start working in Raw....Can someone tell me where to begin with regards to the Photoshop Elements 6.  Do I need to download special programs?  It doesnt seem very user friendly.

You need to check which ACR version supports your camera and download that ACR version. Just replace with the existing version and you should be able to use PSE-Editor Cameraa Raw Editor
