Raw Recovery?

So my hard drive is asking to re initialize when it has already been formatted and data has been stored. I would like to recover my files it shows its a raw format now so it cant be mounted but shows up in disk utility. does anyone know of a free or good raw data recovery software?

First try the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
For now you can skip repairing permissions. If repairing the drive does not help it may still be possible to recover files. See:
Basics of File Recovery
Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Data recovery software that help recover lost partition due to using Disk Recovery Assistant on a 2TB HDD?

I Just use the Disk Recovery Assistant on my 2TB HDD and it wipe it clean. What are the best data recovery tool out there that allow me to recover the lost partition and see the file in folders view not files view like in some data recovery like Disk Drill?
using ML 10.8 something I tried appleXsoft but no luck.

    My best suggestion is
    Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery
    http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
Download the free trial version of the software and use the option "Search Lost/Deleted Volumes", It will scan the drive and show you all lost partitions list on preview. Once you click on the selected partition it will show you again 3 options ,
Quick Recovery- This option is very effective on case of volume corruption
Advanced Recovery- This option recovers data from formatted volume and scans each and every block of volume for lost data.
Deleted File Recovery.- It scans unused blocks of volume to recover deleted data.
On successful recovery the software will show the files in folders view with the folder structure..In case you are unable to see the desired results you would need to go for Raw Recovery which will show results on file basis. This option is only required incase the previous option does not give you the desired results.
    Cheers !!

  • Monitoring WebService Runtime without PI

    Greetings SOA-Community
We would like to monitor our WebServices (created from RFC-Functions) and trigger alarms(e.g. eMail, CCMS-Alarm...anything) whenever the runtime of a single WebService Call exceeds a certain threshold. The WebService Consumer is a non-SAP System.
I guess I'm looking for a way to parse the SOAMANAGERs Protocol & Trace-Log at Runtime but I've yet to find a way to access this information in our System.
Any ideas on how this might be accomplished in a non-PI-controlled environment?
    Thanks in advance
    Chris

    Hi,
SAP offers tool like CCMS and Alert Framework for doing it and other tools (like log viewer in NWA) but these tools required monitoring by themselves, if you want out-box-solution then SAP don't have any tool for this.
You can configure Alert Framework on ERP system to watch services (I never tried for services) but if you alerts/mail etc then you need to design your own tool for same.
These traces and logs are stored in file and not in DB just to make sure raw recovery procedure if something goes wrong with DB.
you can evaluate 3rd party tool like Tivoli to monitor standard trace files which even can give you alerts. Another possible way is to design shell script or java code to do it and schedule it via crontab or schedule task on OS level.

  • Why can't I see the recovery slider in camera raw of elements?

I have the most recent version of elements, version 11. The camera raw plug-in is up to date, some 7.4 something. On the online help list and tutorials I have seen, there is a recovery slider. Yet, when I tried to practice with raw files in camera raw, the recovery slider was not there. I tried looking around the window, clicking menus, but can't find it. So where is it?

PSE 11 has a new 2012 raw engine but you can switch between the old and the new. In the camera raw dialog click on the camera icon. Then change Process to 2010. Then go back to the basic tab.

Hi Teresa, you may have worked this out already? but i just downloaded Photoshop CC and I too used the recovery and fill light buttons and couldnt see them in the raw processing window... HOWEVER!! i did some research and they are available!! YAY, you can toggle between the latest and the older layout... and the recovery and fill optoins ARE  there... the link explains it... but when you open some raw files... on the right you should see a little camera - camera calibration button when you click on there the first drop down PROCESS - change to 2012 mode and then click back to the BASIC processing wheel and they will be there... cheers Danni

  • Camera Raw 7 - Recovery parameter

    Hi,
when I've opened the Camera Raw 7 and start working with that, I've notice that the parameter "Recovery" was missing.
    See image from CS5 down:
    Where can I found it?
    Best regards

There no longer is a recovery slider in ACR7/PV2012 (still there if you switch to the older PV2010 and PV2003 in the camera calibration tab though). If you look, many of the sliders have changed.
The closest thing to recovery now is the highlights slider, which will essentially do the same thing (i.e. recovery highlight detail) but in a more controlled and focused manner. Basically, you need to spend some time learning how the new tools available to you work: takes a bit of practice (in fact personally, I'm still learning how to get the best from it as I'm sure many are), but once you start to figure things out I think you'll find that the new processing cabailities in ACR7 are far superior to earlier versions. There are plently of tutorials out there that can help: many will be focused on the develop module in Lightroom in LR4 (as this was released two-three months in advance of ACR7), but the sliders operate in the exact same way so they'll be an invauable learning tool. Also try the Adobe forum for LR - plenty of good advice on there. But above all, just take some time to practice and figure thnigs out.

  • Camera Raw & the Recovery Slider

    Hi Folks ....
1st time on the forum.   I have recently upgraded to PSCC and I note when I go into Camera Raw that the "Recovery Slider " has disappeared.  This however only happens on certain images that` have taken since the upgrade; on images that were shot before the upgrade i still get the Recovery Slider.  I am using Camera Raw  8.7.1.
Anyone has similar problems and any ideas how to resolve it.
    Thanks
    George

PSE 11 has a new 2012 raw engine but you can switch between the old and the new. In the camera raw dialog click on the camera icon. Then change Process to 2010. Then go back to the basic tab.

  • "Recovery" missing from RAW editing mode in PSE12?

I had just discovered the brilliant Camera RAW editing mode (for photos in other formats) in PSE 10. When I tried it in PSE 12 I noticed the "recovery" slider, which is essential to getting the best exposure results, is no longer there.
What am I missing? Is there something else I should be doing to compensate for overexposure (as indicated by the red when the alert is turned on)? I had some success adjusting the "white" slider-- is that my only option now?
    Thanks.

The whole raw engine got a serious overhaul and has been greatly improved from what you're used to in PSE 10. I'd suggest googling for a tutorial on how to use the new process, but if you really want to go back to the old version, in the Calibrate tab just choose the older version:

  • RAW File Recovery?

    Hello,
While shooting tethered, my battery power in my camera went dead.  It just so happened that an image was being transferred to my laptop.
The file is there but Lightroom can not import it nor can Photoshop open it.
It says it is 10.7 MB so there is inofrmation there.
Any ideas on if I can rebuild it?
    Thanks

There is no function within LR specifically for doing this, and a file size of 10-odd MB sounds awfully small for a RAW file unless your camera's sensor is 8MP or so in size.
Generally you're out of luck in a situation like this, especially if the entire image wasn't completely stored before the power on your camera died - there's no way for any recovery program, if such a program exists, to know what is missing and I imagine your situation involves something more than just mere file header corruption. You have a corrupted image and might just have to settle with it.
If you're shooting with a Canon and are using Canon's own EOS Utility program to operate your tethered session, you might like to activate an option in EOS Utility's preferences under the Remote Shooting section named "Save also on the camera's memory card."
So when you do another tethered session, your camera will save a copy of the image to its internal storage like it would if you were shooting untethered, as well as do the normal tethered thing of downloading the image to your computer. Saving to the camera's internal CF or SDHC card will always be tons faster than downloading it over USB - even USB2. You're still in a race if your batteries are low, but with this option on it's a race you have a better chance of winning, and at worst you'll have two copies of a given image instead of just the one. If all went well, just format the internal card on your camera to clear it off and enjoy the ones on your PC.
And lastly, keep an eye on that battery meter! Canon and Nikon do make AC adaptors for their DSLRs as well. It's preferable to use one especially if you're shooting tethered as I doubt you're running around to and fro and the additional wire thus shouldn't pose a undue restriction.

  • Time machine data recovery from a Raw disk

    Hi everyone!
I have been backing up my data on an external HDD with time machine. The HDD is 1TB and I needed some storage space to back up some other files form work, so I created a partition. After creating the partition the HDD became RAW, so I was not able to read files from my MacBook Pro. Between Ubuntu and Mac I have been able to access the information in the HDD but I can't find Pictures and Music which is the only information I need to recover. I need help please, if anyone knows a way to find my pictures, I will really appreciated, those are my live pictures.Thanks.

I forgot to mention that my Pictures were store in iPhoto and my music in iTunes

    Any Ideas ?

    Hi,
as for all liveCache issues, I'd have to ask you too to open an OSS message on queue BC-DB-LVC.
    A thing you could try:
try to read using 'dd' from your devices. If 'dd' can't read from the devspaces, then you've got a misconfiguration somewhere, i.e. an operating system issue and not a liveCache issue. In that case, we (BC-DB-LVC) wouldn't be responsible for the error.
The 'dd' command could look like:
    dd if=/dev/vx/rdsk/azdevdg/lvlzddisk1 of=<filename> <blocksize>

  • Data Recovery from Partitioned and formatted Bit Locker Encrypted Drive

Recently because of some issues in windows 7 installation from windows 8 installed OS. it was giving as the disc is dynamic windows can not be installed on it. so at last after struggling hard no other solution i partitioned and formatted my whole
drive so all data gone included the drive which was encrypted by bit lockers.
For recovery i used many software such as ontrack easy recover, get data back, recovery my files professional edition but still i couldnt able to recover my data from that drive. then i found some suggestion Using CMD to decrypt my data first
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523219(WS.10).aspx
where it shows it successfully decrypt my data at that moment my drives were in RAW format excluding on which windows is installed and then in CMD i check Chdsk which also shows no problem found. but now problem is still i coudnt able to recover
my data then i format the drive D and again tried to recover data using above software after decryption still no result.
Now i need assistance how i can recover my encrypted drive as it was partitioned and also formatted but decrypted also as i have its recovery key too. thanks

    Hi ,
I am afraid that we cannot get the data back if the drive has been formatted even if use the
    BitLocker Repair Tool.
You’d better contact your local data recovery center to try to get data back.

  • Macbook - Dead Hard Drive? Data Recovery?

A friend has asked for my help - his Macbook (1st generation - about 4 years old) suddenly refuses to start but displays a grey screen, sometimes with a question mark. You can also (sometimes) hear a few clicks from the hard drive. I'm assuming the drive has died - is that most likely?
The machine will not start in target disc mode (my laptop cannot see it and there's no firewire icon on the screen) but it will start quite happily from an install DVD, Disk Warrior DVD (DW could not see the internal drive at all) and an external firewire drive. Can it be anything other than the internal drive itself - any other tests I can try?
Now, I have to whisper this bit - he has no backup! I'm comfortable with fitting a new drive for him but is there any way I can try to retrieve data other than a specialist company who are talking around £600.

The only other thing I would try is physically removing the drive from the Macbook and, if you have one, installing it in an external FW enclosure, connecting it to a Mac using a raw SATA cable, or using a (preferably read-only) SATA drive dock.
If that doesn't do the trick, I would say you've tried everything that a non-data recovery specialist should try, so at that point my professional advice for him would be to judge the value of what's on the drive, and, if appropriate, seek the help of the data specialists.

  • Are there any recovery tools for optical media?

I've had a couple of DVD's  turned in to coasters recently and I was hoping that Linux could come to my rescue with some awesome 'raw-read' / recovery tools for optical media?
I burnt the discs in Windows 7 using InfraRecorder on a brand new Plextor drive (a 'PX-891SA') and these are my first attempts to burn discs with it so I'm a bit worried it could be a hardware fault!
I started off trying to back up some files to clear some space on my hard-drive, burning them to a dual-layer dvd, but the software kept failing to even start the burn process -- that was until I realised that I needed to run the program "as Administrator" (in Windows). It did then manage to burn the disc (I was using "Session-at-Once" mode) however when it came to the end of the burn process / the start of the 'verify data' phase it threw an error saying the write process had failed! Windows couldn't access the disc / data and (I think) still thought the disk was empty. So I restarted the burning application and used a function to just 'close' the whole disc. This seemed to work because Windows was then able to recognise the disc and read the data, although accessing the disc was slow and sounded 'stutter' ish.
I then tried to write a single layer dvd to finish off the last couple of gig I had to back up, but again the software completed the burn phase only to report a 'fail' error right at the end (I'm assuming) before finalising the disc. Although this time I'd tried to create a multi-session disc by using the '2XXA' (or something) 'Multi-Session' iso9660 format. The result was that Windows couldn't read the disc and still thought it was empty, even after trying a forced 'close disc' operation! -- Linux however could read the disc and see that the data had in fact been burnt to the disc (although I've not yet tried copying it in Linux!).
Finally I needed to burn a load of archives to a couple of discs (totaling ~9GiB) -- starting with a dual-layer dvd first everything seemed to be working fine, the burn process started okay and the write buffer was full etc., until at what I assume was the layer change-over it all came to a grinding halt and threw another 'write operation failed' error, only this time I can't even mount the disk in Linux....see 'dmesg | tail' output below:
    [ 5758.353005] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
[ 5758.353015] ISOFS: Interleaved files not (yet) supported.
    [ 5758.353016] ISOFS: File unit size != 0 for ISO file (1472).
[ 5758.353019] ISOFS: changing to secondary root
[ 5758.353035] ISOFS: Interleaved files not (yet) supported.
    [ 5758.353036] ISOFS: File unit size != 0 for ISO file (1536).
[ 5758.353037] isofs_fill_super: root inode is not a directory. Corrupted media?
Does anyone have any thought or suggestions that might help?
    - Is it likely to be a hardware fault? (I bought a Plextor because I thought they were one of the best!)
Maybe even if I could just close the session all would not be lost?

@chris_l -- yeah I was worried that might be the case, still I'm not sure if that explains why it keeps failing the burn process part way through?
I've tried this and that in Linux but without much luck. I'm still quite a noob with a lot of Linux things and this is the first time I'm trying anything to do with optical disks/drives etc. so I'm learning as I go...
The disk that failed in Windows but was 'readable' in Linux did just pass a run through ddrescue -- i.e. it created an output file okay and did not report any errors in the process.
However when I mounted the resulting image and tried to copy the files across the first folder reported an "input/ouput error" (just using gui copy+paste in Thunar file manager)
...the other folders did copy okay though!
It seems as though it's the lead-in / lead-out and disc finalizing process that are the main fail points with the burn operation. I don't know if InfraRecorder is any good or likely to be the problem? Anyway the drive cam with Nero (inc. Linux version) so might give either or both of these a go too, if they don't work either then at least I wont be short of something to rest a mug o' tea on
@ chris_l (again) -- the Plextor drives do have a "Vari-Rec" feature which allows a user to 'tweak' the laser power / output level so I might try this too.
@alphaniner -- thanks I've not seen this package before, I'm guessing it's a bit like cdparanoia but for dvds?!
    Thanks for the help!
(pre-post) UPDATE >>> I've just mounted my Windows partition  in Linux so I'll have a crack at burning the files using cdrtools before I resort to throwing the dvd drive out of the window and chasing it around the yard with a lump hammer
