RAW support for Nikon D7100

When will Apple update RAW file support for Nikon D7100?

Just tried the exiftool workaround hinted by cakos and I'm happy to report I can now see the photo taken with Nikon D7100 on the screen.  However, my versions of Photoshop (CS5) and Lightroom (3) couldn't be tricked into believing the picture was taken with a D5200 and refused to open it.  The same happened in Apple Preview running on Snow Leopard.
But Preview on Mountain Lion did a better job and opened my .NEF file without any problems so I exported it to .tif and that made it possible to load it in the Adobe programs.
Oh, and this is the command I've used to override the camera model entry in the RAW file:
$ exiftool -Model="NIKON D5200" DSC0001.NEF

    Hi KelseyyBevann,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Is this the update that you tried to download?
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.06
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1656
What version of the operating system do you have?
When you attach your camera do you see it in Finder?
If so, you can import the photos into iPhoto this way:

  • Lightroom 4 support for Nikon d7100

What am I to do with my photos if Lightroom 4.4 does not include support for Nikon d7100?

After a few false starts, I've successfully brought RAW files into Lightroom 4, by using a method that basically tells Lightroom that the camera is a Nikon D5200, which apparently has the same DX 24 megapixel format.
    Check out the site below:
    http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/graphics-programs-photo-gallery/320908-how-open-d7100-r aw-files-lightroom-4-a.html
    1. Download a free copy of exiftool and install
    2. Copy your NEF files to a directory specifically for changing the file metadata to say D5200. Only put those NEF files in this directory, nothing else.
    3. Run the program as described in the link above, specifying the exact location of the directory with your copied NEF files. Very important: for it to work if there are any spaces in your directory name, you must put quotation marks on either side of the directory location or it won't find the directory. I also found that all details, including exact spacing, is important in the command. So after "Nikon D5200" have a space before -ext. (Feels like being back to the C prompt days!)
If it finds your directory and it runs properly, the original .NEF files are renamed .NEF_original, and the new files that should work in Lightroom are named .NEF. My guess is that if the command doesn't run properly you could rename your original files back. But it's much safer and quicker to copy the files from your memory card to your hard drive, and if anything doesn't work right or creates unreadable files, just delete the files in the new directory and try again with new original copies.
I did this on a Mac, but should work as well on a PC. For Mac users who haven't used it, Terminal is an app that comes with the Mac. Just find the terminal app, open it, and put in the command line shown in the link,  referencing the directory you've put the files in in quotes.
    Good luck!

  • Aperture support for Nikon D7100?

Lightroom now has support for Nikon D7100. Does anybody have any suggestions when Aperture will provid support?

There has always been, and likely always will be a bit of leap frog, one upsmanship with the timetables for competing developers when adding RAW support for new cameras.  None of the developers who offer solutions for RAW processing have the market cornered in this respect.
While I too have concerns ... it should be pointed out that the view across the fence is not as attractive as one might think.
On Oct. 23, 2012, Apple added RAW support and tether support for the Nikon D600 ... while Lightroom did add RAW support for the D600 about the same time, Adobe has yet to offer tether support for the D600.  In fact, Lightroom only supports a small select few cameras for tethering.
Of course this may not be of interest for Aperture users who do not rely upon the tethering feature ... I simply point out this situation in order to illustrate that Lightroom is not a panacea of perfection ... and don't get me started on how horrid the Lightroom Slideshow and Book modules are compared to what Aperture offers.
Likely, Apple will offer an update sooner rather than later.

  • When will the RAW support for Nikon DF be release?

Anyone know when they will release the RAW support for Nikon DF?

Anyone who knows that, would not be allowed to post this information here. Only the Apple developers could tell you, and they never announce this kind of information in advance, sorry.

  • RAW Support for Nikon D810?

Has anyone heard about when Apple plans to provide RAW support for the new Nikon D810 Camera?

Wish I knew as well--couldn't come fast enough for myself or clients.  In the meantime I've added 1 extra step to workflow by first converting D810 RAWs to DNG using Adobe DNG converter--leaving original RAW embedded.  Aperture can read the converted DNG file.

  • RAW support for Nikon D3s

I just read on Nikon Rumors that Apple is now offering support for the D3s? But I am failing to see this on their site, am I missing something?

The latest Digital Camera Raw Compatibility update includes support for it. This update is only available from the Software Update pane of System Preferences and isn't mentioned on Apple's site at this time.

  • Camera RAW Support for Nikon D2X w/10.4.3 Update

After updating to OSX10.4.3, iPhoto, Preview, and Finder all support my Nikon D2X NEF (Nikon's version of RAW) images. This is really nice. Thanks, Apple.

The D3200 isn’t supported yet, AFAIK, but may be soon.  Once it is, you could upgrade to LR 4.x or use the future DNG Converter to convert the NEFs to DNGs and open those in an old version of LR.  Personally, I think LR4 is worth the update even if you returned the camera.

  • Support for Nikon D7100 in Elements 10

Elements 10 will not open NEF files from my new Nikon D7100. It opens those same type of files from the D7000 and the D800.Does this mean I will need E 11?

  • Future RAW Support for Nikon D40

Does anyone know if future updates of iPhoto will support Nikon D40 RAW format (or where I might look to find out)? Thanks.

RAW support is a function of the OS not iPhoto. Have you updated to 10.4.9? I know the D80 is supported.

  • CS5 Raw Support for Nikon D800 not function well after Time Machine restore

    Hi.

I am not very sure the RAW support version that I use in the past.
But after I restore my iMac with the latest time machine file.
CS5 cannot open the RAW file for D800 anymore, I try to install the latest RAW file version 6.7 for CS5, but when I click to check the RAW support version in CS5, it keeps showing version 6.6, any idea how to solv
    Thank you very much~

You need ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 6.7 to open D800 files.

  • Camera Raw support for Nikon D810, using Photoshop CS 5.1

I know the last update supported the D800 - can we please get support for the D810 on Photoshop CS 5.1 (version 12.1 x64)?

Current Version means whatever Adobe is selling and therefore supporting at the time the camera is released.  Right now, that would be PS-C6, PS-CC, PS-CC 2014, and Lightroom 5, and maybe Elements 12, although sometimes the last update of the summer doesn’t get to Elements at all.

  • RAW support for Nikon D5000

I just got a Nikon D5000 but PSE 7.0 cannot load the RAW images.
I saw that ACR 5.4 with D5000 support is now available but it does not have the install scripts for PSE 7.
Has anyone been able to manually install the data files for the D5000?

    Thanks.
I went through the ACR 5.4 zip file and found the correct file (name=1003, size = 10.8 mb). copied that into the PSE 7.0 directory C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats and renamed it Camera Raw.8bi
PSE 7.0 now works perfectly with my Nikon D5000 raw files.

  • RAW support for Nikon D90

Any idea on when Apple will support RAW NEF files from the Nikon D90?

In the meantime you can do what a lot of professional photographers do: use Adobe's DNG Cconverter to convert the RAW file to the DNG format which iPhoto does support.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • No RAW Support for Nikon D5100 in Aperture 3.1.2 - any ideas of an update soon?  I am only using the Aperture 3 as a Trial.

Anybody know if Apple is releasing a new update to support the new Nikon D5100 yet?  I am on the Aperture 30-day trial right now.  Thanks.

    We do not know.  Sorry.
You can shoot RAW+JPEG and use the JPEG files for now. Or go through Adobe ACR and convert to DNG. Or use Nikon NX2 or Adobe Lightroom that will convert D5100 RAW files.
