How can we bypass the compression of video shot through I phone and I Pad?
No.
Think of this way - the original material is like making tortilla chips. The H.264 compression is like stepping on a bowl of chips. All the material is there but it takes MUCH less space and something is lost in the crushing.
Converting from H.264 to ProRes will give you a more easily editable format, but is not the same as completely reconsituting the chips. What is lost in the original compression can not be regained.
Still, having said all that, the situation is not totally dire. H.264 is an amazing compression codec. If you start with adequate light, a steady camera mount and controlled movement in the frame, the original images can be quite good. Low light, unsteady camera and fast action are the enemy of quality images.

How do I archive the raw video files from my camcorder to ext hd?
I have a couple hours of video sitting on my Canon Vixia HF S10 HD camcorder. I don't need to edit them in iMovie (at least for now) but I would like to keep those raw video files for use at a later date and get them off my camcorder. I want to put them on my external HD if that's the best thing to do. Does anybody know the best way forward with this task?

Later on, when you want to edit your movie, you can open iMovie and select FILE/IMPORT...FROM ARCHIVE, and import this into iMovie just as if your camera is attached.
The first time you do it, I would recommend going through the whole procedure and importing a least some of the archive into an iMovie Event. Once you are sure it is working for you, you can delete the files on the camera. -

where are the raw video files stored for Imovie and how do I delete the raw files from the HDD that I capture into Imovie? (looking for folder path is it in the Imovie Cache?) I've used iMovie forever, and I just bought Final Cut Pro. I uploaded video for a new movie into FCP, but I have an urgent need to get this movie done and don't have time to learn Final Cut Pro to do it. Can I move my video files from FCP over to iMovie 10.0.6? Or do I need to reload the raw video to iMovie?
No you will have to import your clips again into iMovie 10. Projects can only be transferred from iMovie 10 to FCPX and not the other way.

If iTunes can read the movie files, then you will need to create an iPad version by going to the drop down menu File > Create New Version > Create iPad or Apple TV Version and then syncing that newly created file.

How do I import raw CR2 files from camera into LR5? I get an error message
I'm trying to import raw CR2 files from my camera into LR5. I get a message "Files appear to be unsupported or damaged." I know they are not damaged. Does LR5 support raw files? I can do this in Bridge and it converts them to dng files. This would be ideal for me if both could be done in LR5.
Not sure what the problem is if you say the files re recognized in Bridge? You could test the CR2 files by downloading the free Adobe DNG converter - latest version 8.6 (keep your CR2 originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)and then import the DNG’s. It’s an extra step but I use it all the time to batch process into final folders.

It's name is 8 characters, no more, no less (CKDI9483 for example)
It's a format that the iPad will play
I've made mp4's of things, folderized them right and named them 'right' and can transfer them to my iPad, so you can use a computer to make the files conform to what the iPad will see. -
Why can't I delete this video file from my trash can?
I have a video file that I will not disappear from my trash can when I click the "empty track" button. I managed to move the folder containing the video file from documents to the trash after a lot of effort, but it kept telling me that I didn't have the privileges necessary to delete the video permanently. Now the video file is sitting inside a folder inside the trash can where I can't move anywhere else. If I try to move it anywhere else, it simply copys to that folder but stays inside the original stays in the trash can as well, but I can still delete the copy and the original stays sitting in the trash can. Can anyone help me so I can get rid of this file once and for all.
