Razr M - Android Version Update?

Hi, so I have a Razr M and it was running on Android version 4.4. I had to do a factory reset recently on it and am now running back on version 4.1.2. Every time I go to Settings - About phone - System updates it tells me my device is up to date. It's obviously not if I'm still on 4.1.2. Is there anyway to force it to update back to 4.4? Or what is going on? It updated originally back in May or June. Did something change?
Thanks,
Nikki.

Jviperm,
I'm sorry to hear that your Razr HD is losing battery life after the update. I'd like to offer options that might help. Have you attempted to put the device in safe mode? http://vz.to/W6Ax37 . I would even suggest to clear the temporary files http://vz.to/1fnw33B. If that doesn't help I'd suggest to save all your information then do a hard reset. http://vz.to/1j7V5Ul

I just want to know if i update my tab's android version from jelly bean to kitkat then it will safe.
I mean can i update my tab to kitkat without any problem.
I did it yesterday, and my Slate 7 VoiceTab is absolutely unstable. 2 days ago the device was fully functional and now it's a piece of garbage. The system is unstable, resets itself, the connection via SIM is fading away, a lot of ASSERTs messages pop up, services randomly stop.
And the worst thing is that after the update I can't revert KitKat back to JellyBean because of differences in boot loader.
So, tommorow I'm going to call local HP office trying to replace this otherwise favourite device with another one.

Can we update the android version of this phone?

If your phone is running 4.0.4 Android version, software 7.02.605.10 710RD, sense 3.6, then it is on the latest available version of the operating system for the HTC Thunderbolt. There won't be another update.

I also cannot check for new anymore

It is a two stage update. First update just preps the phone .. not sure what it does really.. most likely removes some Verizon changes to make the real upgrade work correctly. Connect to wifi and check for the update.

• Port Android version to Linux

Hello,
I was just wondering whether it is possible for the Android version to be used to keep "Skype for Linux" up to date. Given that the two (Linux and Android) are related, it just seemed like a possibility.
Skype for Linux is still on version 4.3.0.37. It lacks many of the features of Skype on other platforms such as:
Video/webcam use in groupcalls;
Picture sharing;
Options when choosing profile picture such as zooming on a particular part of the uploaded picture;
Text formatting options such as bold, underline, strikethrough and italics.
The community has been asking for Skype for Linux to be updated since this time 3 years ago as shown in threads such as this and this. Unfortunately, the lack of any response from Microsoft on the matter has become extremely frustrating.
As a result, I was hoping that the work done on the Android version could be adapted to help with Skype for Linux.
Thank you in advance for your help.
[Topic title updated by moderator to be more descriptive. Original topic title was: "Port Android version"]

Hmm - actually the MacOS version should run more or less "off the shelf" - this is Unix BSD, and use the same X11 window manager. The difficult part is to remember the diffierent directory names - "/Home" is "/Users" on Mac.
The difference between Android and say Mint is that Google has made the Android window manager, while Mint and Ubuntu and the rest are based on X11 - the very same as MacOS.
Soon it will be Windows that will be used on some desktop environments, while the code the rest of the world use is the code hacked at MIT. They can get an Android emulator by talking to Jolla - or simpler, ask Google that use their own variant of Ubuntu. The response here seems to support what some of us have feared, that Nadella came too late, and it is impossible to turn the ship before it sits high and dry.
Wine should run the XP version of Skype...

• How do I get the android version of Firefox to show my sync key OR export my bookmarks?

This is so aggravating, I have spent hours and hours now trying to get my bookmarks out of my Android device, to no avail.
There are two addons out there, none of which work with the current version (18) of FF.
So I took the about:synckey plugin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/aboutsynckey/) and updated the install.rdf with the android GUID and bumped the em:MaxVersion. Now it installed! WOHO!
But didn't work. :-(
Googling I managed to find a post in http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/941765?page=2 where cor-el points out that the code is wrong. So I make the fix: The call to get the key should supposedly be 'Weave.Utils.hyphenatePassphrase(Weave.Identity.syncKey)'.
I reinstall and try again, but no dice. I try to insert an alert. No dice. The Javascript doesn't seem to fire.
I try on the desktop, and it works! Well, I don't have a key, but the alert fires as least.
Does Android require signed packages for JS to run, or what am I missing here?
The fact that there is no way to get the sync key out of FF for android NOR export bookmarks is, to use a strong word, retarded. Googling around there are many many threads from people who have, like me, lost their recovery key. It's aggravating because the data is there. I have my bookmarks on the device. I know the key is in there or it couldn't decode them. There's just no way to get at it because everything is locked down.
The JS looks like this (oh great, no preview here. How nice):

One thread suggested 'jailbreaking' and then somehow exporting the sql-lite(?) database containing the key, extracting it from there. I'm not doing that. This isn't supposed to be hard, this is supposed to be three clicks and you're done.
For the love of all that is holy, someone add Export Bookmarks to the Android version so we can get on with our lives.

This is because the directions you are seeing are out of date. They applied to Firefox < 10.
The only way to get data out of the Firefox for Android profile is to use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/addon/copy-profile/
This data is not directly importable into Firefox desktop. It would require some inspection of the SQLite databases to accomplish what you want to do.

• Not able to configure Exchange mail account on Xperia Z1 (android version 4.4.2)

Hi,
I have updated the android version of my phone to the latest of kitkat (14.3.A.0.757). After which configuring the exchane mail (corporate mail account) but it is not configuring. Every time it keeps 'checking incoming server settings' for indefinite time. I thought it might be taking time so i left the phone in the same situation for overnight but no result in morning. It looks like a bug in the latest version of kitkat on Xperia. Please suggest a solution.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
First make sure that you have a working Internet connection in the phone.
You can download Internet and MMS settings for your phone by going to Setting > More > Internet settings.
If you have a working Internet connection but still not able to connect to your E-mail server or sync your E-mails check that no Proxy server within your APN settings may be blocking this. You can check this by going to Settings > More (Wireless & networks) > Mobile networks > APN or Access Point Names > Your Internet APN. Check if any details are set for Proxy and Proxy port. If yes you can try to delete them (temporarily) and save the APN. Now check if you’re able to connect or sync with your E-mail server.
You can also verify suspected Internet connection issues by trying via a Wi-Fi network instead.

• Best Practice : Adding Android Versions to published iPad Folio

Hi,
I currently have an iPad Custom Viewer with a 239 page per orientation ( yes per orientation! ) folio, this is currently available on iTunes and published.
We are adding Android 10.1" and Android 7" versions to this now.
What would be the best method ( ie. least work ) to add the new screen sizes to the folio ?
My options as I see it are :
1. Use a different Adobe ID for the Android versions. This seems like the least work. Update and republish the iPad folio with all content unprotected to enable new Web Viewer feature with new Custom Viewer.
2. Create a brand new folio with all renditions included. The problem with this is, I don't see a way to manually add all my _V iPad layouts to the alternate layouts. I literally have to set Object Based liquid layout rules for the _H and redo the _V using the rules.
Is there a way for me too add renditions to the existing iPad folio ? Is it as simple as adding new screen sizes to the Folio Builder tool in InDesign ? Regardless I'd still need a starting point for the alternate layouts, and need to work from the iPad versions. Which brings me back to the end of Point 2.

Hi.
Each "rendition" is a folio, all published under same publication account. All renditions share common product ID. It is viewer's job to choose rendition best suitable for device.
From my own experience, I publish all my magazines both on Apple and on Android with no different renditions. Yes on 7" screen the text is a little bit small for comfortable reading.

• Offline sync on Xamarin - minimum Android version

There were some questions on the Disqus thread on the
Xamarin.Android offline tutorial, which turned into a long discussion, so I’m moving to a thread here.
Essentially, there was a question as to the lowest version of Android that can be targeted when using offline sync with Xamarin.
The tutorial currently states it is 2.2 but this is incorrect--the minimum version is 4.1. We will update soon. Thanks to
Orizz for tracking down the problem!
As some customers reported, if you use offline sync with the default SQLiteStore on version 4.0.3, you will see exceptions such as:
SQLitePCL.SQLiteException: Unable to prepare the sql statement: INSERT OR IGNORE INTO [ToDoItem] ([id]) VALUES (@p0),(@p1),(@p2),(@p3) Details: near ",": syntax error
The exception occurs on line 113 of the sample app downloaded (ToDoActivity.cs). The line is
await toDoTable.PullAsync("allTodoItems", toDoTable.CreateQuery()); // query ID is used for incremental sync
Ankur:
1) Can you please share a sample project how this can be achieved?
[how to override system library]
It will really be a deal breaker if we can't use it for 4.0 and 4.1 as these together account for 25% of all android users! (
https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html ). At the very least, we will need to support 4.1(18.4% users).
2) Also, the SQLiteStore is dependent on 3.8.2 version which is only available on Lollipop. It means that while we haven't found any issue using it on non-Lollipop devices, there is really no guarantee that it will work!
3) It looks like the main issue is that some SQL statements are not supported. Can you please post a list of SQL statements (and corresponding Linq queries as end user uses Linq which converts it to SQL statements) which are supported
in the different Android versions? That way, we can write queries accordingly and workaround this issue.
Finally, here's my reply!
The Mobile Services SDK itself will work with lower versions of Android, but SQLiteStore implementation has only been tested on devices running Android API 19 (4.4), or
SQLite 3.7.11:
Double-check your device, but standard Android 4.1 (or above) have at least this version of SQLite.
We will update the quickstart project to target API 16 or above, and clarify the version in the offline sync tutorial.
Note that we do not currently plan to support multiple versions of SQLite, due to the testing matrix this will introduce: for each version of SQLite, we will have to test 4 platforms (Windows, Windows Phone, Xamarin.Android, Xamarin.iOS).
To support Android versions below 4.1, you can always substitute your own local store implementation. The local store is completely pluggable and doesn't require rebuilding our SDK. For instance, you can use a completely different type of local database
or build a store that supports older versions of Android.
To get a working SQLite-based local store on API 15 and below, do one of the following:
Override the SQLite system library. NOTE: I haven’t found official documentation on how to do this, but I found these posts:
StackOverflow,
Google groups,
StackOverflow. However, I have not tried this myself.
Or, create your own local store by using the source of SQLiteStore as a starting point. For instance, modify SQLiteStore so that it doesn't use bulk insert (introduced in 3.7.11), but rather does individual inserts.
Verify your implementation on different versions of Android by running the
tests for SQLiteStore for Xamarin Android with your custom local store.
There were some questions about what SQL or LINQ is supported by the Mobile Services SDK, but actually that wasn't the cause here--it was the local store implementation and how it implemented push and pull operations. In contrast, all LINQ operations against
sync tables will execute, assuming the local store works with your version of SQLite. In other words, you don’t need to modify your sync table queries, but just make sure that all SQLiteStore tests pass for your implementation.
It’s unfortunate that SQLite can’t easily be changed on older Android devices, but at least with 4.1 and above, that accounts for over 85% of devices. For targeting 4.0 or below, the local store customization should be a feasible option.

Here's an article that describes how to make your own build of SQLite:
http://www.sqlite.org/android/doc/trunk/www/index.wiki

• The new android software update?

So I just got the software update for android.. does any one else think it sucks or is it just me? Its slower.. the look isn't the same.. and I can get to some webpages that I used to be able to.. I wouldn't say it was an update it was more like a downgrade.

Good morning, All.
I have a Droid 2 and yesterday morning, 11/3, I performed the update to the latest System Version, 2.3.20.
The Android Version is 2.2.
The battery life did increase and the unit was more responsive, but I noticed some BIG problems.
First -- my Corporate E-mai Sync started throwing Certificate Errors -- I know our Exchange 2K7, SP2 server has valid certificates and other Droid users are not having issues with it.
My biggest problem is SMS messaging.
Before the Upgrade, all messages I received from NON-VERIZON users would be displayed in full -- 160 characters and then be split into multiple messages (if needed).
After the upgrade, ONLY Text Messages from Verizon users are being displayed in full.
Any message from NON-Verizon numbers are being cut off --
What I mean is that if the message is 160 characters long, ONLY the LAST 80 characters are being displayed!
I had several Verizon users send me full, 160 character, messages and they are received fine each time.
Similarly, I had NON-Verizon users do the same thing and still, only the last 80 characters are displayed.
I tried a reset, removing the battery and letting it sit for 10 minutes - no good.
I also tried a factory reset from the privacy menu -- it reset, but the problem still exists.
Anyone know if this is a Motorola Software bug or could this be a problem with the unit itself?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!

Hi, the upgrade is great in general.
I have only one problem with the camera. I use an Android app to create Augmented reality point clouds. The app is Metaio Toolbox. After aply the upgrade to 4.3, when I try to use the camera inside this app or any app using Metaio SDK, the camera has poor definition. Before the upgrade the app had worked ok.
Could you tell me how to downgrade to previous Android Version? Could I do it from Toshiba Station or need to download an special package?

• Next Android Skype Update

I can't help but notice how out-of-date the Android version of Skype is compared to the iOS version of Skype.
I would really love to know when Android users can expect an update to 5.5 (?) as well. There are just really minor things that I would like to see added, such as:
Animated Emoticons
Typing Notifications (XXX is typing...)
It sucks trying to Skype with somebody that is on iOS because they can see when I am typing, but I cannot see when they're typing, so I end up interrupting them constantly. I've seen a few topics on this already with no offical responses.
EDIT: Also, use of the new image sharing functionality would be great too. I can't stand opening up a browser on my phone and logging in every time I want to see a picture.
Thanks!

Yeah. I've pretty much abandoned Skype. It's as if they sold to Apple at this point, they're so obsessed with iOS. I have people who haven't even had the app installed on any of their devices for months showing up as Online. Image and File a sharing is still beyond terrible. How can an IM service/app not support standard Emoji? No chat bubbles (they seem clueless about usability and ergonomics). Still broken Group Chat. Lower Video quality than most other apps I've tried. Crackling voice call quality.
All this, and they want us to pay for stuff that Google gives away for free (Phone Number, Calls to USA and Canada, SMS/MMS, etc.).
Well, I know what I'm advocating my friends use these days.

• I get item not found attempting to download the Android version

I have tried scanning the bar code of the Android version and also going to firefox.com/m/beta and also going to firefox.com/m and I get the message that the item cannot be found. While my phone isn't mentioned exactly, I do have the minimum Android version 2.2.1 on my T-Mobile MyTouch 3.5.

Sorry, Firefox is not available for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G. Firefox will not appear in the Market for most phones with incompatible hardware. You can check if your phone is supported here:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android
Even on some supported devices, a bug in the Market software prevents Firefox from showing up. This may be related to the fairly recent Android Market app update. If you go to Settings/Applications/Market and choose "Uninstall" you can uninstall the update, and then search for and install Firefox from the marketplace.
Or, if you have a supported phone, you can download the app directly by typing this address into your phone's browser: http://bit.ly/fxbeta3
(Note: To download the app directly for an AT&T phone, you will have to search for instructions on "sideloading" the APK file, since AT&T disables the option to install from non-Market sources.)
