Razr M Signal Quality Poor - Voice & Data

My Razr M is only days old.  I switched from T-Mobile because of dropped calls and weak signals around the metro Atlanta area.
This new verizon phone has a very week signal in my home, and Verizon's map show's I'm in a "green zone" on their map.  In other words,
I should have plenty of signal strength and 4G LTE service without difficulty.  The phone displays 1 to 3 bars flutuating, but usually at 1 bar.
Signal strenth fluctuates between -97db to -107.  Data rate between 1x & 3g with or without accessing my wireless router.  I called Verizon
and they asked me to call them from another phone.  I understand the troubleshooting technique, but I unless my wife is home.... you get the picture.
She has the identical phone.  I managed to compare the signal strength this morning, and they're identical.  My phone has locked up twice during recharge, but may be the charger.  I had to reboot the device to power on afterwards.  I suppose the true test of this phone will be while we're on the road this weekend.
Otherwise, the quality or clairty of the call is great.  The phone itself is light years better than the "Lg MyTouch" in quality. I hope to be a loyal Verizon customer, but not quite sure yet.  Anyone else have comments on their Razr M ?
Thanks,
Jerry

Not to ruin your upcoming trip. If there are problems now after a few days with the phone I would suggest you go back to the store (Verizon Corporate Store) and return them before you reach the 14th. day of ownership.
My wifes Motorola Droid works perfectly never had any problems with this model. I cannot say with the M but they are like phones.
If you wait till day fifteen you will be getting a so called Certified Like New Replacement (refurbished junk that had problems which may be greater than what you now have) and the issue you are writing about may still be there.
If you return your phone they will charge you a $35 restocking fee. But you could either swap it out for the same phone brand new or even try out another make and model to see if your problems are fixed or still the same.
Do this now because you will not like dealing with verizon for your repairs or lack of it. There are other nightmares when you have to send your device back. so be very careful.
Good Luck

  • Texas / Oklahoma Panhandle Signal Quality

Signal quality out here is not what it used to be.
We don't have 4G, but the 3G data speeds used to be adequate for basic email/web browsing and simple apps. Text messages must be resent about 90% of the time, and voice quality is also horrible now. Every other word seems to get lost in a conversation. This is probably the most frustrating.
I have been told that a local telephone company trying to test out their 4g network and not knowing what they are doing is partially to blame. I'm not sure how accurate that is. Maybe Verizon could look into this? If so, talk to the FCC?
I have been keeping my fingers crossed that Verizon was tinkering with the towers in order to upgrade them to 4G, but that's just the optimist in me. I have no idea where to better submit a trouble ticket. I am told calling in to complain will get a routine script.. so maybe this post will get some attention... Can someone can look into the signal quality out here???

I submitted a complaint on Verizon's FB page and they were very responsive, although the canned answer wasn't really what I was hoping for. They recommended a signal booster for phone reception, which requires home Internet service and has nothing to do with data. They also recommend I check this page frequently - http://bit.ly/xVecuo
That is completely useless since it only says whether or not an area has 4G, not whether it is coming to an area. I will know by the data service I receive on my phone when we have 4G. It was worth a shot and I'm letting it go now that I've had my two cents.

  • AP signal quality reporting

    Hi,
When we do a show assoc etc on a 1232 AP,
we get figures back showing signal strength in the region of 70 and signal quality around 35.
What is the reference for these figures?
Is it 70 as in 0 bad 100 good, or is it 70db, where 60 is a stronger signal than 70.
And how does the 35 get measured.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

Not necessarily, Signal quality is usually some sort of useless percentage of what, nobody at Cisco can answer. SNR on the other hand is Signal to Noise ratio. This is a quantifiable number that refers to where your signal is in reference to where the noise is. SNR is measured in dB as well. If your noise is -88dBm and you signal is -65dBm, then your SNR is -23dB (which is good depending on what your doing with it, voice would probably work depending on whose it is etc...)the lower the number the SNR is the closer your signal is to the noise. Think of your car driving around until the radio station starts to drop off. If it's a really good song you will put up with the static so long as it isn't unbearable. When it becomes unbearable you will find something else to listen to.
Think of -25 to -30 as very good (depending again on environment etc..just a guide not a rule), -18 to -20 ok, (VoIP might be giving you problems but your data probably still works) and anything lower than that is pushing it.
This is not to say that signal quality is useless altogether, it must be looked at in conjunction with signal strength and SNR and the environment it is in etc... in order to give you a picture of what you have or what you think you have anyway...

  • Poor voice qualtiy over wireless network

I am experiencing poor voice quality on my Cisco IP phones at one location (Phones disconnecting Garbled reception by outside line callers
"Blank spaces" when speaking; not always ending in a disconnect)that is linked by a Tsunami Multipoint 60. Using Callmanager 3.3. I have verified there is no interference
This worked extremely well for several months and now bad. Any suggestions to look at would be greatly appreciated! Here is the set up:
PTP T1 from building A to building G, Wireless link from Buidling G to Building C.
Building G has a 2620 router, and a Catalyst 3500xl series switch. ** Phone in this builing work fine** The Tsunami Base Unit plugs in to a port on the switch with the following port config:
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
Building C (problem location) has a Catalyst 3500xl series switch. The Tsunami Subscriber Unit plugs in to a port on the switch with the following port config:
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
the balance of the switchports that phone are plugged in to are defined as follows:
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport voice vlan XXX
    switchport priority extend cos 0
    spanning-tree port fast

  • Signal quality question

So, this morning when I came into work, the flourescent lights were off (I always like that), and my iPhone had 4 bars of signal quality sitting in a spot on my desk and was on the edge network...
An hour later, I came back, and my phone had 1 bar of signal, and no edge network. What was different? The ligths were on...
Can flourescent lights interfere with signal quality? Of course I know there is all kinds of 60Hz EMI that is going on...and as much as I would like to flip the lights on and off all day to test this theory, I don't think my collegues would appreciate it.

I too have been having VERY strange signal quality issues.
I can be sitting in a chair in my house getting full signal
strength and surfing the web when all of a sudden the signal
goes to one bar. On some occasions I will loose my Edge indicator (the E) and an error message will pop up saying I lost Edge data. This has happened plenty of times while just sitting still. I was thinking that this behavior had to do with the cell site I was in at the time, but perhaps there is more to this. Anyone else have this strange issue?

  • Original iPhone Upgrade to 2.0 - Significantly Reduced Signal Quality

I upgraded my 1st gen iPhone with the official 2.0 update through iTunes on Friday night. Since then, I've noticed that my phone refuses to keep a steady signal. It happens especially when I'm actually trying to use it, such as when surfing the web or talking on the phone. Even at idle, though, I can unlock the phone and watch myself drop from 4 or 5 bars down to 1 or none. The top half of the phone (where I assume the processor is at) also gets ridiculously hot after only a few minutes use. As a result of this, my battery drain has increased significantly.
I took one poster's suggestion and turned off Push data retrieval, but that didn't see to fix anything yet.
Has anyone else experienced this? This phone used to be very reliable in terms of signal quality, as I'm in the NY/NJ area, so coverage isn't a problem.

Solution: Create multiple calendars in iCal. Synch will iPhone.
Result: Default calendar settings created in iPhone. Application has multiple calendars.

  • Constant signal quality variance

I am not sure why this happens but the signal quality seems to constantly shift between Excellent, good, fair, and poor - I am using wireless for my laptop and also dial in through a VPN for work (but can access the internet without VPN) - not sure if that makes a difference.  Does speed, band, or channel have anything to do with this?  I am just not sure - any suggestions would be great!  Kristen

I have a Linksys WAG300N running firmware 1.01.01 and also see my signal strength constantly changing along with the speed.
Sometimes the speed will drop right down to 1Mbps but if I disable and then enable the wireless on my laptop it will reconnect back at 54Mbps.
I tried different channels and changing network mode to be disabled rather than mixed as I don't have any N devices. Beacon interval, fragmentation and RTS thresholds have all been reduced. None of this seems to make any difference.
I previously had a Netgear wifi router installed in the same location without seeing these sorts of problems.
I see equal or stronger signal strength from several over wifi networks. It's possible that one of these could be installed in a nearby room next door but not all.

  • LTE for Voice & Data

    So I recently upgraded to a 6+   I have been with Verizon for 4 years & have never used .5gb of data. Now in just 1 week I have used 2gb! I am on my home internet all day. I did receive this text message from VZW;
You recently enabled LTE for Voice/Data & now have Advanced Calling 1.0. Please visit www.vzw.com/AC1.0/iPhone6 to learn more about the service.
I do not understand the advanced calling, could this be affecting my data usage??

You will almost always see a bump in in data use when going from a 3G phone to LTE phone. I hear people say they do the same, but several factors come into play:
    1) browsing is faster so you tend to browse more per unit time
    2) Any media you do consume (audio, video) will often get sent to you in a higher quality and thus more data for the same listening or watching time
    3) You will buffer ahead more due to the speed using data for things that you may never even consume if you go away from a web page or media before finishing it.
My experience seeing 5 people now go from 3G to LTE in the past couple of years is every single one had increase in data. The lowest was a 50% increase and the highest 200%.
I will also confirm that advanced calling does not use your data bucket (it does use data, it just is not subtracted from your limit). Agree with all the above too.

  • Signal Quality issues - totally stumped

My first post so apologies if I step on anyones toes.
I've had a browse through and can't find an existing post that covers my scenario.
For a while now my box has been having issues on certain channels. The exact scenario is that the signal quality drops to below 25% which causes picture blocking / freezing.
Before anyone says its a MUX issue, I have tried.
    1) New cables
    2) Rebooting
    3) Factory reset
    4) A known good cheapie freeview receiver from Asda shows a static 95% quality on the channels where the BT Vision box has problems. With both the old and the new cables. No signal bouncing - stays solidly at 95% (or thereabouts)
The specific channels it has issues with are Channel 21 (VIVA),Channel 38 (quest +1). I am on Waltham transmitter and other channels on the MUXes have 85% quality and higher on the BT Vision box. On VIVA and Quest +1 the quality bounces all over the place between less than 25% upto 87%.
If it was all channels on the MUX then I'd know it was time for aerial reposition, but with it being on only specific channels and a cheapie receiver working perfectly I'm a bit stumped??
Additionally, since the new firmware, I use a 4:3 TV through SCART and the screen real estate now seems wrong as it chops the bottom off the screen when in the new menu system  - so things telling me what to press are lost - ie: to delete a recording from the recordings section  I can't see any advice at the bottom of the screen as was there on the old firmware, I basically found it was the red button by trial and error. I'm guessing BT think we all have HDMI TV's and maybe the menu works OK on HDMI.
Its as though the tuner has just decided it doesn't like channels 21 and 38  - maybe its telling me to to watch some better quality programs...   Or more seriously, maybe its cooked and has a specific frequency reception issue? Unlikely but I can't think what else it could be.
If anyone can advise I'd appreciate some guidance as I've pretty much exhausted my limited knowledge of TV transmitter behaviour.
    Pete

    Hi Pete65,
It could be possible that if you are in the Northampton/Milton Keys/ Bedford/ etc areas, that particular mux could have some signal interference .
There was a post earlier which I can't find right now, where the author talks about signal quality vs signal strength.
It could also be possible that the signal is too strong which could cause a detrimental effect on the quality.

  • How to Enable Signal Quality (%)

    Good Day,
Checked the manuals and forum to no avail.
My Cisco 1200 AP is displaying Signal Strength (dBm) but not Signal Quality (%).
Is there something I need to do to enable this, or is it client specific? Thanks for the help!

the command show dot11 ass all will display the parameter for signal quality

  • Youview Signal/Quality Issues

I have had a Youview box for a few weeks now and ever since it arrived the signal and picture quality has been very unreliable and patchy, with pixelation, horizontal lines appearing across the screen and breakup in sound when viewing live TV and recordings. I have re-tuned all the channels several times, signal strength is constantly 80% and above, signal quality is 100% and i have tried several different aerial cables and this problem still persists.
If anyone has any ideas then they would be weclome. This seems to be for most channels but im noticing it most on BBC1, BBC2, ITV and their HD versions.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the responses all, my BBC 1 is showing as BBC1 East E which would make sense as im in the north norwich area.
I managed to convince my girlfriend to ditch sky for Youview with BT and so far all i have had is complaints that it was a mistake, so im really hoping that I can find a solution to this to make it all go away
Im on ITV HD at the moment and seems ok, the occasional spasm but not as bad as the BBC channels.

  • Voice/Data T1/E1 Crossover back-to-back Cable DIY or Buy?

    Hi All,
I am trying to build a Voice lab and it's starting to cost a fortune for the kit.
I have seen a T1/E1 cross over cable on the link below and I need two of these from my set up
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UTP-Voice-data-T1-E1-Cross-Crossover-back-to-back-Cable-Cisco-Voice-CCIE-CCVP-/230771200798#ht_1364wt_1231
Could anyone advise if this is a special type of UTP cable or is this standard Ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors just with a different pinout configuration?
If it's just the order of the wires in the cable I have a reel of UTP and a crimping tool I can use to make my own
Your help is appreciated as always
    Cheers,
    David

T1/E1 cross over cable is very easy. You should make yours and dont waste your money buying ready made..
The pin out you need is this..
    1----------->4
    2----------->5
    4----------->1
    5----------->2
The images below shows you the pin out configuration

  • Voice & Data VLAN Implementation

    Hello,
We have recently purchased an asterisk based IP PBX, it is hosted in-house which uses Grandstream IP GXP1405 Phones.  We have configured and installed. we are able to receive calls and dial out.  Unfortunately our infrastructure was not up to par with the PBX.  We purchased an SG300 20 port switch, with two RV320 VPN Dual Wan Routers.  We have a total of 4 offices.  this is the current setup:
    HQ 1 - Asterisk Based IP PBX, RV320 VPN router, & SG300
    HQ2 - RV320 VPN Router
Office 1 - Simple Linksys Router
Office 2 - Simple Linksys Router
We have established connectivity using the Tunnels incorporated onto the RV320 Routers, so we are able to connect to the HQ locations.
However since the RV320 has dual WAN setup's, we have now have 2 Internet Connections independent from each other.  Our goal is to perform the following:
WAN 1 = to be used for Data Traffic
WAN 2 = to be used for Voice Traffic
We would like to do this by separating the VLAN's and directing the traffic from one VLAN to a specific WAN using the equipment above.
We are having issues establishing the voice VLAN and redirecting the traffic once created.
Any help would be appreciated it.
    Thanks,

    Hi Soiser,
My name is Mehdi from Cisco Technical Support,
For the Voice & Data VLAN Implementation we can manage to do it with different way :
First example hard coding the voice vlan
    1. we can have the switch Layer 2
    2. Configure on the switch Vlan Data and Vlan voice (in this example will have Vlan 1 Data and 100 is Voice vlan) --> under Vlan management --> Create Vlan
    3. Configure the port from where the switch is connected to the Router and change it to Trunk port and add vlan voice (until here we made the data traffic as untagged traffic and voice traffic as tagged) by going under Vlan managemnent --> Port Vlan Membership --> select port 20 --> click on join vlan --> by default you have 1UP in the right so now select vlan 100 and select Tagged and move it to the right
    4. And the same trunk port with both vlan for all the port on the switch where you have voice and data
    5. here we done with the switch
    Second Using Auto-voice Vlan implementation
    1. We Can have the switch also layer 2
    2. we need to configure the AUTO-Voice Vlan under vlan management--Voice Vlan --> Properties by changing the voice vlan 100 and we have two option to choose
Dynamic Voice VLAN: Enable Auto Voice VLAN OR  Enable Telephony OUI :  the difference is when you have Cisco Phone enable                                 auto-voice vlan and the phone will take all the informations like (Vlan ,..) via CDP protocol
if you have 3rd part Phone select Enable Telephony OUI and configure the first 3 bits of the MAC address of the phones by going under voice                 vlan -->Telephony OUI --> add 3 bits of the MAC address of the phone but not for all the phones is by model remember first 3 bits of mac
address is the model of the device!
Auto Voice VLAN Activation: select "Immediate"
    3. and enable telephony OUI interface
-------> We didn't configure voice vlan the switch will assign voice vlan to the phones when they connect to the switch by CDP or Telephony OUI
Now going to the router :
    - By default RV320 Has Vlan ID 100 with subnet 192.168.3.1 so we can change only the ip address of vlan interface or if you deleted by some reason we will need to create a voice vlan by going to Setup-->Network--> multiple Subnet Table --> Create the Vlan interface in my example i will put 10.10.10.1 and mask 255.255.255.0
    - Just to check if you going to port management --> Vlan Membership you will see vlan 1 is untagged and vlan voice is tagged this also in our switch !! you can connect the switch from any port of the router since all of them are the same
    - if you wantr to change and coding only port 4 for example as trunk and remove other port the voice vlan you can
---> Now should work the voice vlan and data vlan
But we have two WAN and you want to bind the WAN 1 to Data and Wan 2 to Voice
we need to configure Protocol Binding
under System management --> Dual WAN --> Protocol Binding
there we can choose all traffic , source IP (voice network 10.10.10.1 - 10.10.10.254) , destination 1.0.0.1 to 223.255.255.254, and select WAN 2
and another rule but the source will be the data network and select WAN 1
This is it just example and how the Voice vlan work and how to use Protocol binding if you have two WAN
Please if you have the switch on L3 by some reason and you have SVI configured in the switch , please call the Cisco Technical Support Center we will be happy to help you to accomplish your need with layer 3 switch is almost the same few change and we need more information's from your topology that's why by phone is better !! :)

  • Validating accuracy and quality of migrated data

Does anyone have recommendations or suggestions with respect to validating the quality of the data migrated from one database to your Oracle database? Basically I'm looking for suggested steps (queries) to run to verify the accuracy of the data migrated and include those checks in an automated process.
At an entry level I can compare rowcounts between tables and verify they match but I was thinking more along the lines of creating an offset to be more sure about it. For example I can add the sequence number primary key column with another number column(s) and sum that to create an offset that I can compare against the same table in the old database.
I was just wondering if there were any schools of thought or existing routines that anyone had to do some of these types of post-migration quality checks (in a timely fashion). If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it?

    Hi,
This is one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions. For some people row counts will be sufficient, yet for others they will require that every column in every row can be validated against the original dataset.
The Oracle Migration Workbench does not perform any validation of the data load process. We have had customers request this function and will probably look into this in more detail in the coming year.
The approach you are talking about, by creating a scheme to validate the data in a table using the sum of a column or series of columns, seems like a sensible compromise between simple row counts and complete validation.
    Regards,
    Blair.
