RBS Excessive Rights...

Discovered an instance recently where someone want to restrict access to an area of the file system (IRF)
Try as they might they couldn't block a certain user.
Investigation found that this user was getting the rights from an RBS role - PwdPolicyManagement, which was granting S Entry rights to the scope ([Root] !;-)
I have found the article Eliminate Excessive RBS Granted Rights for Password Sync Status Check | Novell User Communities but just wondered what other people are doing? especially where service desk, etc. still require ConsoleOne, etc.
Cheers

Personally: avoiding RBS entirely. Use eDirectory ACLs correctly and you
don't need RBS.

  • Stop the excessive right-click noise from wired mouse

I have a wired mouse that came with my iMac (Intel) and starting today it has this annoying excessive clicking when my right-click finger is resting on the second button. It's really driving me crazy.
I have tried pounding the mouse on the desk, unplugging it, upside down shaking, and a lot of cursing. This is driving me crazy.

If you have an Apple "Mighty Mouse", that's a very common problem. The slightest amount of electrical static they are exposed to will make them go crazy... even electrical static that builds up in the human body. Either the computer is not grounded properly or you have an electrical device close to the mouse (within a few feet) causing interference. Make sure your iMac's power cord is well connected to both the computer and AC. Also check around the mouse for any peripherals that use a "wall wart" power supply. If you've added a new peripheral to your system around the time your mouse started acting strange, that's probably the culprit.

  • Best Practice for Storing Sharepoint Documents

    Hi,
Is there a best practice where to store the documents of a Sharepoint? I heard some people say it is best to store sharepoint documents directly into file system. Ohters said that it is better to store sharepoint documents into a SQL Server.

What you are referring to is the difference between SharePoint's native storage of documents in SQL, and the option/ability to use SQL's filestream functionality for Remote BLOB Storage (also known as RBS). Typically you are much better off sticking with
SQL storage for BLOBs, except in a very few scenarios.
This page will help you decide if RBS is right for your scenario:

  • SIMBL Agent--what is it and why is its virtual memory footprint 30gb+?

Loud fan noises. Discovered something called SIMBL Agent was using well over 30 gigabytes of virtual memory. 2nd place was Safari at only 1.5!
So, the question of the day is
    What is SIMBL Agent?
    What is it doing?
And should I be concerned at 30gb+ of space being consumed?
(OK, so thats 3 questions of the day! )

Thanks for the reply! My understanding is that virtual memory uses hard drive space... so 30 GB+ is excessive, right? Or, has "virtual memory" taken on a new meaning in Leopard, or OS X.
Virtual Memory information is mostly meaningless, except to software developers and very few of them.
Virtual Memory is often times filled with holes of unused address space. The application code is mapped into this space, and the disk used for this is the actual executable code.
All the shared libraries and application frameworks that the application uses are mapped into the virtual address space, often times with empty gaps in the address space. Again the disk used are the shared library and framework files.
If the application has loadable modules, such as browser or photoshop add-ons, then these get mapped into virtual address space. And the disk for this comes from the add-on files. Also these add-ons are most likely mapped into the virtual address space with gaps between them and other code.
Then comes the data used by the application. This comes in different flavors. Some might be memory mapped files, where an explicit file accessed as if it is part of memory (vs doing read/write operations). If the file is huge, then the virtual address space needed to map it will be large as well. Or an application can memory map a bunch of smaller files, but if you have enough of them then that adds up to a lot of virtual address space.
NOTE: when memory mapping a file, the application has the opiton of specifying where in the virtual address space it would like the file to be mapped. So it is very possible for an application to specify they would like to map a file at the 29GB address offset, and everything from the lower address up to the now memory mapped file at 29GB is empty address space. No RAM and no disk associated with this gap.
So far everything I've mentioned does not need swapfile space, as real files are used for all of the above.
The application stack is mapped into the virtual address space. Since the stack grows as the application calls subroutines, it is necessary to leave lots of unmapped addresses for the stack to grow into. Since most stacks to not grow that big, a lot of that virtual address space is never mapped to RAM nor disk.
And there is the actual data being worked on by the application. This could be local variables used as part of the program flow control, or it could be buffers used to hold data the program is working on. This data would get allocated potential space in swapfiles (/var/vm/swapfile*), however, if the operating system does not run out of RAM, then it will not need to actually create any additional space in the swapfiles.
Now I have no idea what your 30GB application is doing with all of its virtual address space. And it is possible that it is using all of it, and forcing RAM to /var/vm/swapfile* files. If you really want to know, you can always use the vmmap command from a terminal (man vmmap).
However, in my experience, no one really cares. All they really want to know is whether their Mac is spending a lot of time paging. And for that I like to use Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    sar -g 50 100
The command will display pageout information once a minute for 100 minutes (adjust values to suite your tastes).
Now you do your normal work. When you come back an look at the sar output, if it is mostly zero or some small values, or a momentary burst, then you really do not need to worry. If you have sustained high values, or if you notice a the Mac is slow at the same time you getting high pageout numbers, then you could benefit from more memory, or running fewer apps at the same time.

  • AT&T blames iPhone 3G for roaming data charges in excess

This is Outrageous. AT&T Called me Sept. 19 to advise my iPhone service would be cancelled. They are trying to collect $10,000 because the 3G was ROAMING Data in the background ONE day in Frankfurt Germany, 480MB they say.
After 4 HOURS in the phone today (landline) with mutliple customer service agents, a family ready to go on Prozac because of the anxiety caused by this issue, and much heartburn on myself, I am without service and with a Billing Problem that AT&T does not want to take responsibility for.
I swear to GOD, I did not use such amount of Braodband and I certainly can not afford to pay such large sum just because AT&T says so; fine print or not, this is plain burglary!
AT&T customer services blames the iPhone 3G as a device which constantly "in the Background retrieves data from the network", in other words, the data and broadband was not a direct request of me, the consumer, and therefore not a practical application or service rendered, if in fact the 3G pulled such large amount of data as AT&T claims it did.
If someone have had this problem, of hidden, surprise, OUTRAGEOUS charges, and know a way to resolve, please advise. The AT&T customer service people on the telephone have no authority to investigate and clarify. They cannot offer proof of what are 480MB consisting of, and simply demmand immediate payment if marginally reducing the amount on the spot.
What an intimidating group of people at AT&T. I really hope someone in AT&T would look at these cases and realize how illogical and senseless it is to follow this inpersonal, irrational, unethical billing practice.
I hope somebody in AT&T, or in the legal world, can help me out of this!

I complained to the FCC . AT&T Customer Service Reps, after many calls totalling more than 9 hours now, can not break down the nature or the services rendered in the $20/Mb 500+MB they are charging me in excess of $10,000 Dlls. The phone was in my pocket. I used it to check e-mail from my children (no attachments, just text) figuring it'd be cheaper than $2.80 telephone roaming charges, right? AT&T does blame the device for TX/RX of data without user intervention.
"Form 2000B at fcc.gov: To the FCC: AT&T is charging me for 500MB of broadband use in Germany and Netherlands that I DID NOT USE. They argue theri 3G iPhone works in the background without user intervention.
After almost six hour on the telephone in 8 different calls with AT&T Wireless Customer Service, they insist on charging me $10,000 Dollars.
This has caused a terrible amount of distress on me and my wife. I need help to stopthis fraudulent charge of $20/MB at 500MB of data I DID NOT REQUEST to transmitt or Receive. PLEASE HELP ME. I AM DESPERATE AND CAN NOT GET AT&T to accept the fraudulent nature of their claim. "

  • I can't synchronize my iPod's with my iTunes software (Windows Vista Home Premium) due to problems with the access authorization / rights for this operation

    Hi there,
I'd like to ask you something:
I'm trying to synchronize all my iPod's (I have as many as 4 iPods: 2 iPod touch a 8 GB each and 2 iPod classic a 160 GB each) with my iTunes software (Version 11.3.1 which is installed on a Windows PC (Windows Vista Home Premium)). Unfortunately, the iTunes software refuses to run the command "synchronize with the iPod connected" regarding each and every iPod I have. iTunes just declares:
Synchronizing is impossible because I wouldn't hold the access authorization / rights for this operation.
I uploaded the songs at issue to my iTunes folder from CD's (all songs are in AAC format now).
What is this access authorization, why was something like that invented and what can I do to get it?
How do I have to proceed in detail?
    What would it cost?
I am brand new here and have never ever made a post in any support community anywhere in the world in my life. Well, and I am not excessively knowledgeable about the particular computer or mac language but I know the very basics or can find out about them.
Anyways - can you help me please?
If you can't help me, who can do so?
It would be nice if you could answer me as soon as possible!
    Thank you guys
    Prying Pedro

Yes, others have experienced the problem, a simple search of the forums would have revealed that and the simple solution.
Termporarily disable any security software on the computer.

  • I'm having problems with excessive email usage on my iphone 4/ios 7. Just noticed that (settings/usage) it was using 900  mb. I deleted all my mail, deleted the mail account, and it still says it's using 661 mb. My ipad uses a fraction of that.

I'm having problems with excessive email usage on my iphone 4/ios 7. Just noticed that it (settings/usage) was using 900+ mb. I deleted all my mail, deleted the mail account, turned the phone off and back on, downloaded any remaining mail on the server to Outlook on my computer, and it still says it's using 661 mb. My ipad uses a fraction of that.
Background: I recently (December) bought an ipad and set up icloud for contacts and calendar, but NOT mail. My email provider is Verizon. I use computer, iphone, and ipad to check my email; eventually I download it from the server using Outlook on the computer and then delete any remaining emails from the phone and ipad. I can't find info on this problem anywhere.

    Howdy there COUGAR444,
It sounds like your iPad all of a sudden seems to be restarting out of no where. If you haven't called AppleCare yet, I would start with quitting either the app that seems to be causing the issue, or all the apps if a single doesn't seem to be the culprit.
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Printing Docs - how to get rid of 3 inch wasted space on right side of page

I tried to print out : Communicating With Objects
    http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/CocoaFunda mentals/CommunicatingWithObjects/CommunicateWithObjects.html
After trying several different settings and printed only the first page until I got the print more or less the way I wanted it, however...
I have a standard HP Color Laserjet 2600n, looked at all the printing preferences, and all four margins are set at (.25 inch), yet when the pages print out there are about 2.5 inches of wasted space on the left side. The space is there for the Table of Contents, but there is nothing printed there, the space is blank.
So I clicked on the Table of Contents header, so the TOC became hidden and the window only contained the text and images, then when I tried to print, I found that now there were about 3 inches of white space on each page on the right hand side. This is somewhere around a 40% waste in paper, trees, etc.
One would think that expensive as printing is, there would be a way to save paper by optimizing coverage on each page as much as possible.
Another curious thing is that the size of the text on the screen is easy to read at Safari normal (default) settings, yet when the first page is printed the text is really small.
In order to get the size of the print on the paper to be easily readable, I had to click on the large [a][A] at the top of the Safari window twice (+ 2 sizes). The text on the window was fairly large, but the print became easy to read. There was still an excessive amount of wasted space, which just goes against the grain...
Does anybody have a clue how to get rid of all the wasted space on each page ? There has to a simple way, this is 2010 and we've been doing this for 25+ years now.
I am sure it is something simple that I am overlooking ? I'd be grateful for any help.
    Thank You,

What browser are you using? Try downloading a PDF if one is available, or try printing from XCode's Deveoper Documentation window.

  • Is there any way to prevent excess rows from being added to a table on the front panel?

Whenever I programmatically add rows through a property node I can still go into the front panel and keep adding additional rows through the table. Is there any way to prevent this "excess scrolling"? Maybe grey out the rows or something?
    At least I have chicken

    Hello Labviewleroy,
You should be able to right click on the table on the front panel and select
Visible Items>>Horizontal Scrollbar or Vertical Scrollbar
You could also consider changing their visibility programmatically using a property node for the control or indicator that you are referencing. You can create the property node by right clicking on the control on the block diagram and selecting
    Create>>Property Node>>Visible Items>>Horizontal Scrollbar or Vertical Scrollbar

  • Excessive memory utilization in Solution Manager 4.0

    Dear all,
I recently migrated a SAP Solution Manager 4.0 SPS13 (Unicode) system from a Sun E420R  with 2 CPUs and 4 GB of RAM to a  Sun T2000  with 32 CPUs and 32 GB of RAM. After doing st06, I realised that 31 out the the 32 GB of RAM are consumed by Solution Manager, which doesn't seem right, even if the system is a double stack system and Unicode. Stopping the Java stack, I had 22 GB free, still 12 GB for the ABAP stack looks excessive
Any ideas how I can see where the memory is consumed and how I can reduce its consuption? This piece of hardware is meant to host other systems as well, not only Solution Manager. I haven't configured yet alerts, monitoring etc, so the system is barely used
I am running on Solaris 10 and Oracle 10.2.0.2
    Many thanks

  • [SOLVED] Long time with excessive disk access before system reboot.

I feel I would be grateful for some help here. It's my first go at Arch Linux having used Xubuntu for several years. It may be I'm missing something obvious but then I would be happy if someone could point me in the right direction.
Problem: When I do a system restart by issuing
    $ systemctl reboot
    I get the following output
    Sending SIGTERM to remaining processes...
    Sending SIGKILL to remaining processes...

However, after the last line is printed, the system does not reboot immediately but hangs for about 2 minutes with heavy disk activity. I can't say if it is read or write or both, but the led of my HDD is lit constantly. When this activity stops, the machine reboots.
    $ systemctl poweroff
works as expected, i.e. shuts down immediately without excessive disk access.
I see this behaviour both with the installed Arch system and when I run the live installation/recovery CD. It is also the same if I boot into the busybox rescue shell and then restarts the machine from there. It also does not seem to matter if any partition on the disk is is mounted or not, the behaviour is always the same with 2 min. heavy activity before reboot.
    System setup:
Sony Vaio VPZ13. Intel Core i5 M460, 4GB ram, 2x64GB SSD in RAID0 configuration via bios setting (a.k.a. fake raid), partitioned like:
    windows boot
    windows system
    linux swap
    linux "/"
    linux "/home"
So it's a dual boot setup with Windows 7.
The raid array is assembled by mdadm, and I have mdadm_udev among my mkinitcpio.conf hooks (after blocks but before filesystems).

Since I have used Xubuntu without hassle for several years, I first thought the problem may be related to systemd reboot and something in my system setup. But I have tried the Fedora 17 live CD and rebooting there works as expected. So, since it works in one systemd distro, it should work with Arch as well.
Then I thought that it maybe had something to do with the raid-array, something along the lines of

But then I found the shutdown hook for mkinitcpio and now I see that the array is stopped and dissassembled. So thats not the problem either. (Or thats what I guess at least.)
Unfortunately I'm out of ideas. Any help would be grateful.

It turned out that the magic word for me was "reboot=pci" on the kernel command line. With that option set it works lika a charm The machine reboots nice and clean.

  • How To Reverse Excess Confirmed Quantity in Process Order?

    Hi Experts,
    Good day!
I have a Process Order with Total Quantity of 68,180 L which currently have  a status of TECO CNF  DLV  PRC  BASC BCRQ GMPS MACM*. I made my first partial confirmation with a quantity of 1,000 L for my Finished Good u2013 this is a confirmation with automatic goods receipt. Then I mistakenly made my Final Confirmation for this order with a quantity of 71,125 L for my Finished Good. I only noticed that my last confirmation was incorrect after the Finished Good in Stock has been depleted already. The 101 movement for the Finished Good that was posted during my final confirmation was not reversed anymore when I canceled my confirmation in CORS. I tried to reverse using a 102 movement type for this order in MB31 however it didnu2019t allow me to proceed and gave me an error said u201Cdeficit of .....in Unrestricted useu201D.
Currently my Process Order has a total Delivered Quantity of 72,125 L which is much greater than the required total order quantity of 68,180 L.
Anybody knows how to reverse this excess confirmed quantity? Your response is much appreciated.
    Thanks. Have a wondeful day!
    Rockz

    Hi Rockz,
You mean you made Good Receipt (confirmation) excess 3,945L .
Right now, you want to cancel only 3,945L.
As you said, FG already depleted.
If have no quantity in unrestricted Use, how can we make good movement(102) (because error:u201Cdeficit of .....in Unrestricted useu201D occur when you do TCode MB31 for 102)
If you want to cancel 3,945L, first, you must reverse that Batch of FG 3,945L to Unrestricted use (MMBE to check stock), then you use the TCode MB31 with movement 102 for reverse FG excess, if this finish, quantity in delivery of Process Order will be subtract 3,945L.
(reverse that Batch of FG 3,945L to Unrestricted use ,mean is  the Batch of FG which you depleted for somethings like fill to bottle....)
    Regard,
    DiepNguyen.

  • Excessive noise from disc burner

I am hearing what sounds like excessive fan noise(?) when burning a DVD. I haven't noticed this until today. I have used the system quite a lot over the two years I've had the 24".
I also hear it when playing a disc on VLC media player, but strangely all is silent when I play the same disc on the Apple DVD Player (these are both software, right?). The mechanical hardware built in the iMac is Matshita DVD-R UJ-85J.
If it is fan wear(?) or whatever, why can't I hear it when using the Apple DVD Player?
Whatever it is, is it likely to cause serious internal problems, and, should I expect a heavy repair bill?
    Thanks in advance..

Some disc make more noise because they are slightly unbalanced, or possible a bit warped. The difference in sound can also vary based on how fast the disc is spinning. Different types of discs and different apps can use different spin rates in the optical drive.
    If it is fan wear(?)
If it only happens when you insert a disc into the optical drive, it is probably not the fans.
With Intel Macs, you can get an external FireWire or USB 2.0 optical drive. OWC has good options.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/
I have an old USB 2.0 optical DVD/CD drive (read-only). It works for DVD movies and even booting up the iMac with a Mac OS X installation disc. I usually use it in read-only situations (such as watching a movie or installing software), instead of the built-in optical drive. I use the built-in optical drive when I need to burn something... reduces wear on the built-in drive.
