RC and Multiple Monitors

2012 R2
So we are using Remote control but not useful on systems with multiple monitors, is there a way to make it work like "Offer Remote Assistance" does?
Thanks.

The options that fern pointed out above are on the RC client itself -- they are not client settings. They are under the "View" menu.
I've never had an explicit issue with seeing multiple monitors either; however, if you are, have you tried changing the screen resolution on the target system?
There's really no configuration to be had here, the best we can do is offer possible work-arounds.
If this is a major issue, you should contact Microsoft support or consider purchasing a third-party remote control tool. You can also file a change request on Connect so that it gets into their queue as a possible future change.

  • Windows 7 and Multiple Monitor Issues

Alright, I have spent the past 3 days searching these forums as well as on Microsoft's support pages and all of Google to find the answer to my issue and it seems as though I'm the only one who is running into this problem.
I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro with the GeForce 9600M GT Nvidia Graphics card with the latest version of Mac OSX and Bootcamp installed on it. I have Windows 7 installed in bootcamp. I just purchased a Mini DisplayPort to VGA cord with a VGA cord so as to connect my computer to my Sony Bravia HDTV to use as a second monitor. I plug in the cords, plug them into my TV, and put it into the proper input and it works like a charm. Then I go and boot up in bootcamp under Windows 7, plug in the cord, and my screen gets to the "starting windows" logo and then it goes black. I push ever button, I try control alt delete, nothing. I have to hold down the power button to turn off the computer and then turn it back on.
I turn it on, boot up into Windows 7, let it load, then plug in the cord, and the computer display instantly goes black, again, and yet nothing displays on the TV. Again, I try everything to no avail, so I power it off and back on. I go through this at least 10 times to no avail. I finally give up and try again the next day.
Next day, I plug it in, and the monitor stays up, but yet nothing is displayed on the TV. I go to my resolution settings in Windows, and go to the multiple monitors tab, and select every possible option (extend, duplicate, etc) and nothing will display on my TV. I try to change the settings to which it responds with "unable to save display settings" and nothing changes. I attempt to enter the nvidia program and make changes that way. The TV is detected, but when I select it and attempt to apply anything, no changes take effect and I am left with only the laptop display. Keep in mind I uninstalled and reinstalled all of the video drivers and such.
Finally I get fed up so I purchase a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapted and a DVI to HDMI adapter. I try again. Again in OSX it launches immediately, no problems. I go back into Windows, and immediately I'm dealing with the instant black screen.
I'm going crazy over here trying to figure this out. I know it's possible to do this because I've seen people on youtube doing this and again it works on OSX so why the heck won't it work? If anyone has any idea what's going on here please help me out. Thanks.

JonMarx... I'm having the exact same problem. I'm in the exact same situation as you are. I'm going mad, and it's only by divine providence that I've finally located the only other person who knows what I've been going through. I've spent at least 20 hours trying to get this started back up, to no avail.
I had the secondary display working peachy for a while, long enough to configure everything to be exactly how I wanted it. I unplugged the monitor from the computer just to see what would happen, and that's when the problems started. I managed to get it to work one last time for a brief period a few hours later, but the way it just clicked on made it feel too good to be true.
I've had a wierd problem with a phantom display as well. The display will frequently show up as being available in both the nVIDIA panel and the windows settings, but if I apply the settings, they won't go through. I got a few screenshots of it the last time it happened.
I was just about to reinstall windows completely, but it seems that I'll just run into the same problem again if I do... Here's to hoping a solution is found.

  • Macbook Pro and Multiple Monitors

    Hi,
I was considering on making the move to apple and getting the macbook pro.I multi-task a lot with my machine and was thinking of buying 2 20" apple cinema display's.Is their a way of connecting my macbook pro to the 2 cinema displays and to a 32" so 4 monitors including the unit itself can be run.It needs to be quiet cheap as well don't really want to spend a lot of money on it.All the screen's have to run different I don't want it to be mirroring on all four.
    Thanks
    Jonathan

No, not without buying an external video card unit that connects via the MBP's Express34 slot. It's not cheap, but one was featured on gizmodo a while back: http://www.tuaw.com/2008/03/08/vidock-gfx-brings-multiple-external-monitors-to-m acbook-pro/
There is no way to run multiple monitors off the single DVI port in the MBP.

  • DWM and multiple monitors

Who has any tips for running DWM with multiple monitors?

Not exactly.  I mean that if your Xorg video configuration and/or xrandr is set up properly than dwm should Just Work.  Different video card vendors require different methods of setting up dual-head.  Check the wiki for your vendor info and go from there.

  • Touchsmart and Multiple Monitors

Has anyone out there actually connected an HP Touchsmart to multiple monitors? I am aware that USB-to-DVI or USB-to-VGA adapters are required. However, I learned from one adapter manufacturer out there (StarTech) that there are known issues with these adapters and the Touchsmart. Has anyone had success? esp with synchronizing video? What brand/type of adapter did you use? My goal is to get one Touchsmart and 4 extra monitors working together. thanks

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers that are all different. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
    You shouldn't need to disable the "Touch" feature to enable "Extended Display" mode... however if don't disable it, you may have issues getting to the extended display or you may experience unpredictable results. Using a mouse should allow you to reach the alternate screen. Depending on your hardware, there may or may not be an option to disable "Touch (Use your finger as an input)" in the Windows Control Panel. You can, however, disable the touchsceen input device in the Windows Device Manager as shown below;

  • Photoshop cs4 and multiple monitors

When i save a document as a jpg on one monitor and then drag the photoshop window to the other monitor and save it the same way, they turn out differently! Whats going on?

    JohnVega
"On the Mac, the Application frame groups all the workspace elements in a single, integrated window that lets you treat the application as a single unit. When you move or resize the Application frame or any of its elements, all the elements within it respond to each other so none overlap. Panels dont disappear when you switch applications or when you accidentally click out of the application. If you work with two or more applications, you can position each application side by side on the screen or on multiple monitors. If you prefer the traditional, free-form user interface of the Mac, you can turn off the Application frame. In Adobe Illustrator®, for example, select Window > Application Frame to toggle it on or off." - Adobe Help "Using Photoshop CS4"
Once you have done that, move the whole block of the Application frame to the Display Tablet. You can then toggle between the monitor 1 and tablet monitor by switching on/off Application frame..

  • XFCE window buttons (tasklist) and multiple monitors

I have dual monitors and each has their own xfce panel with its own set of window buttons. The window buttons have an option to display windows from all monitors, which I don't want, so I deselected it. The only problem is both of the window buttons display the window buttons from the first monitor and not the second. How can I rectify this.

Hi, Rob, Andrew Wolfe here, now working at Interactive Data Corporation in Bedford MA.
I filed some bugs or ERs on this some months ago from Oracle. With very large or multiple monitors, there is a fundamental UI problem with the Microsoft-originated "Multiple-Document Interface" model in which an application's document windows are all enclosed within a main backdrop window.
As a longtime Mac user I have always been amazed that most Windows users work with a single document maximized in a single application window that is maximized over the whole screen. That is, Windows users actually don't use windowing; they use something more like screen swapping. JDeveloper (who knows maybe it's Swing too) buys into this big time by orienting the entire UI around the main JDeveloper window. The tabs and tab groups don't help this at all -- especially given that they always try to dock on you and maximize.
Now Windows UIs have alway squandered screen space -- I'm sorry, does everything really have to have three levels of bulky tool bars? -- and so when displays were smaller (800x600 or less) this way of working made sense. In fact, Windows wastes enough space to exhaust a 1024x768 monitor on a single window.
But when you get any larger than 1024x768, or when you add an additional monitor, that background MDI window is a complete waste, and document windows/tab groups docking and maximizing does not good whatever.
PLEASE allow JDeveloper to run without this backdrop window. Let users move and size tab groups however they like. Preferably this would be a user preference, so I don't have to be CTRL-dragging all the time.
    Best,
    Andrew

  • Mac Pro and multiple monitors

I have a new Mac Pro (Late 2013) even though I bought it new in 2015. I have three monitors I'm trying to run on it.
2 are older Apple Cinema HD Displays.
    Display Type: LCD
    Resolution: 1680 x 1050
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
1 is a Wacom 21UX which is my main monitor
    Resolution: 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
All three hook up via Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter ($30 a pop). I was under the impression that you could run up to 6 displays off this thing. This was one of the main reasons I upgraded and spent 4 grand on my Mac Pro. I've read in some other posts about Legacy stuff that the newer OS does not support this. I've also seen some post that talk about Active DVI adapters. I'm not sure what direction to go. It surprises me that this computer can't support multiple lesser monitors but will tackle 6 4K displays? Seems idiotic to expect an end user to only but that display at a grand each. There has to be a solution rather than going back operating systems to fix what will more than likely fail again. Thank gawd my brother gave me these monitors.
    What Happens:
Only two will work at one time.

    Hi,
This can't be true, I'm running 10.10.3 on a Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008). This has 2 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card installed in it with two monitors attached to each (4 in total).
I originally had 3 monitors each running at 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hertz (NTSC), this worked fine. Today however I added a 4th monitor. The 3 original monitors are all Samsung 24A450's, the new one is an updated version of the same monitor - Samsung 24C450. When the monitor arrived, I shut down the Mac Pro, then attached the monitor and powered up again. When it started up, only two monitors were showing. After trying a couple of things, I shut down again and disconnected the new monitor and power up again, all 3 of the originals came back  up. I then tried connecting the 4th Monitor (the 24C450) while the machine was still running and low and behold it recognised it! I configured it and  it seems to work ok.
I have one remaining (minor) problem with it, the 3 original Monitors have resolutions of 1920 x 1200, but the newer monitor won't go above 1920 x 1080. Why is this? Is it possible to get this new monitor to match the 1920 x 1200 resolutions? If I got an active adaptor would this make it use the higher resolution. I'm connected via DVI on all four, is it a cabling issue? I am using the cable that came with the 4th monitor, but have another one on order which I'll try when it arrives.
So, unless you've solved the problem using active adaptors, you could try connecting the DVI to the machine while it is still running.
    All the Best
    Dave

  • Unable to save display settings and Multiple Monitors

Have Windows 7 RTM installed on my laptop and was working great with extending to my monitor. I took my laptop home and hooked it up to my tv and it was fine. Now when I bring it back to work I cannot get the monitor to work. Only the display on the laptop is working. Windows can detect the monitor, but I try to enable the monitor and when I select Apply I get an error message "Unable to save display settings". I am a local administrator on the laptop. How can I extend to my monitor!
    Thanks

    Hi,
Error message " Unable to save display settings" mainly indicates that you try to extend or duplicate the desktop to the two external monitors in addition to the laptop screen. Generally, laptop supports only two displays at one time due to hardware limitation. I
suspect that the issue occurs because the laptop remembers both configuration for your extended monitor and TV. To extend your monitor, you need to clear the multiple configuration for your laptop and then extend your display by changing your display
settings. To do this, please take the following steps:
    Step 1. Delete registry key.
    ==================
    1)Press Win + R to open a run box.
2)In the Run box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3)Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MobilePC\TMM
4)Right-click the subkey that you located in step 2. Then, click Delete.
5)When you are prompted to confirm the delete operation, click Yes.
6)On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
7)Log off the computer. Then, log on to the computer.
Step 2. Extend your display by changing display settings.
    ====================================
1)Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.
2)Click the drop-down list next to Multiple displays, click Extend these displays, and then click OK.

This registry key does not exist in my Laptop and it still won't work.  I have an Asus N53S
which has both Intel HD Graphics 3000 and an NVidia GeForce GT 540M.  It appears that the limitation is actually there is no D-Sub / HDMI  / Internal Monitor option like there is in Windows Display.

  • MacBook Retina and multiple monitor switch on sleep.

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Retina and use it in a Dual-Monitor setup. It has this annoying habit of refreshing it's desktop setup when it comes back from sleep/screen turned off and I have an external display connected.
My cowerker's MBPr also has the same problem. Anybody found a way to solve it? I get annoyed having to move my windows around 10 times a day...
    Thanks,

If you have trouble with the standard BootCamp menu, you might want to try rEFIt instead. (back up your stuff though, not one of the most safest things to install)

  • Another DWM and Multiple Monitors Thread

I'm still relatively new to tiling window managers and have been playing mostly with Awesome and Xmonad.  Recently, however, I decided to give DWM and try and am absolutely loving it!  But one of the things that I like about Awesome and Xmonad is how they support dual monitors--each monitor shares a set of 9 tags/workspaces which can be loaded on any monitor.  Is there a way to emulate this behavior in DWM?

    As in:
Send focused window to next screen, if any.

  • Quicktime, Lion and Multiple Monitors

I just updated to 10.7 Lion, and I love it so far.  My issue, however, is, sometime I hook my Aluminum MacBook up to my external monitor, and watch a video on there using Quicktime.  When I try to go full screen in 10.7, it always brings the video to a full screen view on my laptop screen, and I can't get it to the external monitor.

Yes I found the same issue. I have a dual monitor setup, and I like to play video on the second monitor as I work on the iMac.
Never truly liked VLC, as until today, I never knew it would let me customise the fact it would always black out my iMac when working in full screen. Seemed a little pointless. Still, I will always prefer QuickTime over VLC simply because the playback bar in VLC will not tell me how much time is left in my video, when QuickTime will. This silly little thing is really a big thing for me, and the dealbreaker for wanting QuickTime over VLC.

  • Application dock and multiple monitors

I'm moving my MacBook around quite a bit and hence connect it to a few different monitors. My preferred setup is then to extend the desktop to cover both monitors, and have the external monitor configured in OSX as it is physically placed at the desk. (So, if the monitor is to the left of my MacBook I want it to be on the left in OSX, and vice versa.) I also prefer to have the application dock on the left hand side of the screen on my MacBook as this gives me the most vertical space to work with on the 13" screen.
But, as I connect it to a monitor placed on the left side of my MacBook the dock moves to the far left side of the available space on the now extended desktop, thus placing it on the external monitor.
Is there any way to configure the dock to never leave the MacBook screen? So that when I connect a second monitor to the left of the MacBook screen, it would simply keep the dock on the left side of the MacBook screen. I would have to cross it to enter into the second monitor, but that would be much preferred over having to cross both screens with my cursor to reach the launcher.

Displaylink isn't really designed for high bandwidth video, as it relies on CPU to do the compression. The stuttering and blurring means there is a bandwidth issue with the dock. Are you plugging the dock into the USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port?

  • KDE4 - Questions about the desktop and multiple monitors.

    Hi,
I'm giving KDE4 a try and find it pretty good so far. I do have a few questions though.  I have two monitors running off an Nvidia card.
First question concerns the top  of the screens. There seems to be an empty 'panel(?)' at the top of each screen.  All that's in it is a grayed out cashew for the widgets.  Unfortunately I can't move any window into the area covered by that bar or panel. Is there a setting somewhere I should change or is there a way to get rid of the top 'panels'?
The next concerns other desktops. What happens is that when I switch to desktop 2 my right-most screen goes black. It loses the wallpaper. I can move windows on to it and it performs ok. It's just weird that it's black. Again, is there a setting somewhere? Currently my xorg.conf is set up to use twinview. Should I try xinerama?
I have a directory called Desktop in my home dir. I have a few ".desktop" files in it. These are displayed on the screen in a large rectangle labeled "Desktop".  However, when I tell KDE4 to display one of the standard menu items on the desktop it places them outside this rectangle. Is there a way to control this behavior and also to control the size of the rectangle?
Lastly, my "panel" or taskbar only appears on the left screen. Is there a way to spread it across both???
    Thanks in advance.

appel wrote:You can simply create another panel on the other screen, then add configure panel settings widget to it.  Once done, right click and configure panel and select 'only show apps on this monitor on this panel'.
Doesnt work on my second screen. When I right-click, I get the menu but when I select 'add panel' nothing happens.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL and multiple monitors

I just installed the NVIDIA Geforce 6800 GT DDL and understood it could run 2 30" Apple monitors. I thought that was awesome. But I didn't have 2 30" Apple monitors. I just have a RasterOps Mc 8115 21" and I hooked it up to that and it ran great. So I dug out an old 15" PC VGA Monitor and hooked it up too.
Well the my big screen started the old roll and shake. Does the 21" RasterOps just draw too much to run 2 screens?
