RCA 7.1 soundcards for the Mini?

Hi,
I (just a few hours ago) bought the Creative Labs Inspire P7800 7.1 audio system for my Mac Mini. It was on special so why not. It's just that now I need a decent sound card to run more than 2 speakers from it. I've been googling around and it's becoming a huge headache considering i have no clue. Is there anyone out there who's familiar with the product? I believe it only handles RCA inputs (5 wires + 1 auxiliary input) to run.
are there any good USB or Firewire soundcards that split the signal into 7.1 or 5.1 well?
Thanks

The m-audio Transit will give you a digital optical audio out of your Mac mini to a stereo/decoder for 5.1 audio. But, for 7.1 you'll have to step up the to the Sonica Theater and plug your speakers into it.
-Doug
[EDIT] The Sonica Theater is now gone from the m-audio Web site. I guess it's been discontinued...

  • Need help locating a wallet case for an Xperia T2 Ultra Smartphone that has a slot on the side for the mini-usb

I realize this board is for Xperia tablets, but I don't see a board for Xperia Smartphones.  I do hope someone here can help. I have a Sony Xperia T2 Ultra smartphone.  I love the phone, but I purchased a case for it not realizing that the case doesn't have a slot on the side for the mini-usb connector, which means that I have to charge the phone with the case open.
I called Sony accessories, and they don't seem to make a case with a slot on the side.  They have a very nice case, but again, it doesn't have the correct opening for the charger and you have to charge the phone with the case open.
I have also searched several websites for such a case with no luck.
Does anyone here know where I can find a wallet-style case for the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra with a magnetic closure (or some way of securing the case closed) that will actually allow me to charge the phone while the case is closed?  Please let me know.

This is the only "question" I could extract out of your confusing post:
"I want to know if it even can be done in Flash or would we need to use something else like PHP or Javascript?"
It can`t be done in Flash alone you need php.
With the experience level you already admitted to, I strongly advise to stay away from such a project, you will save you and our customer a lot of headaches, no offense.

  • Can someone tell me if this is a good product for the mini?

Go to this website (you have to copy/paste into your web browser):

it's an external 80 GB hard drive for the mini, and the mini sits on top of it perfectly. do you think this would be a good product to buy if i get a mac mini with only a 40 BG hard drive? thanks and please reply! i'll appreciate it a lot! i promise i will!

Sounds fine to me. However - the price is rather high. Pricegrabber shows the same product for $125-140 along with lower shipping rates.

  • Why is the power supply for the Mini so big?e

Can anyone explain why the power supply / adapter for the mac mini is so big compared to the power adapters for the macbook? The processor and hard drive for the mini is the same as those for the macbook, so why is the power brick so much bigger? Just curious.

While I doubt anyone who knows for sure will be prepared to pop up and answer, I suspect the reason is two-fold: firstly that the supply is engineered for constant use, 24/7, where laptop supplies are not, and thus it is larger because the components are more rugged and over-specced, and secondly for lowest cost, since it is cheaper to engineer a larger product of this kind than a smaller one, due to the premium cost of the smallest narrow-tolerance components.

  • Electric Guitar solution for the mini

I finally found something that looks like it will fit the bill of hooking up my electric guitar to the mini without spending $300-$1200 just for the recording box. M-Audio very recently released the JamLab for Mac and PC, it seems to be around $60 shipped from various online retailers. So if you are thinking about, or were thinking about doing this with your mini, check out the JamLab here.
It actually does more than I wanted, I already have a Korg Toneworks PX4 Guitar processor for effects and on-the-road practice, but if you don't own one of these and want something that not only records from your 1/4" guitar cable plug, but also does effects/stompbox processing, this may be it for you as well.
    Jan J.

I only want something to plug into GarageBand too. $300-$1200 is just a bit much to ask for something that is really just a USB or FireWire soundcard when all you just want to do is mess around as a hobbyist in GarageBand.
Install the Developer Tools for Tiger, you will get AU Lab, a very powerful audio utility that takes full advantage of Core Audio's power. This image from the conceptual development phase on the developers site doesn't even do the finished app in action justice, and the short blurb written there shows that the person writing it up doesn't even know what the app can do. This is a better description--AU Lab is very efficient and has a very high performance and low overhead audio engine capable of supporting multiple outputs, and advanced routing features such as send buses and sidechain buses and even that doesn't even tell you all that it is. Imagine full control of your audio subsystem, a virtual audio cable, real time effects processing, multiple generators, audio sidechains, audio busses, outputs control and remapping and midi mapping and effects. Low level raw access to the audio subsystem in your Mac! Take control of the input/output ports on core audio devices and remap them and simulate surround sound and other cheeky things.
You can pull off the same tricks as Audio Hijack. It was, after all, to show developers what is possible to do with audio on OS X.
If the GT Player Express software bundled with JamLab won't allow you to record because they want you to buy an upgrade for the software, I'll just rip the audio streams passing through OS X direct to an audio file on the disk with Audio Hijack or AU Lab.
    Happy GarageBanding!
    Jan J.

  • What is the part number for the mini gbic?

I need to replace a mini gbic from a MDS-9124. I tried very hard to find the part number but it is not clear. There are 2 part numbers writen in the gbic, but I could not confirm any of it. The part numbers that is writen are DSSFP4GSW-4 and the other is 102195-01. If someone can help I would really appreciate.

At the switch, you could use the << show int fc1/x transceiver details >> command which would give you the programmed part-number.
The DSS... sticker is likely the Cisco partnumber.
It's perhaps a good habit to do at least once execute a full "show tech" of each (new_ switch and save the output. This would give you all the (least) information for the future. . . reproducing is always difficult if the part or switch is not available (anymore) ;) .

  • The right tv for the mini + the best accessories

    Dear all,
I am a PC user considering a switch to mac and this is my first post on these forums, I hope my question is not too redundant.
I would like to begin my mac experience with a mini hooked to a big-screen TV on my living room mainly for home-theater purposes. Space and budget constraints mean my best choice for a TV is a 32" 720p LCD. Browsing through these forums I see many people having problems getting their TVs to display their content properly. My question is therefore, what do I have to consider when buying a TV for it to work with the mac mini so as to avoid this kind of problems?
My second question is in regard to the extras I should buy. Top of the list I would say are a DVI-HDMI cable, a 500GB minimax hard drive to add space for my media, and Elgato's Hybrid EyeTV (or Diversity?) to make the mini a video-recorder. Any other indispensable or alternative accessories you believe I should add to the list?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I would try and carry out some careful research on the TV to insure computer compatibility. There are a few ways to do this. One would be you use internet forums like this one and the AVS Forum to try and see what people are saying about specific TVs you are considering. Another thing would be to try and find a link to the user guide on-line for any TV you are considering. You can often tell from a user guide how PC friendly a TV is or not. Of course you have to know what to look for in the user manual, so that can be confusing and difficult. And perhaps the best way is just to try the TV, meaning working with a retailer that will either let you bring a mini to the store to hook up to TVs you are looking at, or let you take TVs home and return them if you are not happy with them.
One other accessory I find indispensable in my setup is a good universal remote. I have a Logitech Harmony remote and could not live without it. But my set up involves a lot more than just a mini connected to a TV, so YMMV. Good luck in your search.

  • HT3939 what about ipad mini? is there an iOS 7 for the mini

do you guys have a iOS 7 beta for the ipad mini if so please tell me

As you should know, being a developer, iOS7 beta is not available for any iPads yet.  I think that as a develolper, you will be contacted by Apple when the beta is available.
Oh, if you are not a paid developer, don't install it - it will brick your device and you'll have to wait until fall when the general release is made.

  • USB Computer Cable for the mini

I recently discovered that I have misplaced my USB computer cable for my Ipod mini. Before I purchase another one, I need to know that the one that is listed on the accessories site is compatible with my mini. When it listed what it was compatible with, it listed every one but the mini. Please let me know before I spend 20 dollars on a new one.
    Thanks!

Mine is doing the exact same problem!
Ever since I rented a movie from itunes with the ATV connected to the internet via wireless (strong signal) from an airport extreme connected to my modem from charter communications (with about 30Mbps speed) it will suddenly stop and by stop I mean it leaves the movie completely and says YOUR APPLE TV IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET.
So if I go to my network in the apple tv menu, sure enough my wireless network is missing. But the ipad is finding it, and the imac on wireless is finding it, and it is working. So we hit restart on the apple tv. When it comes back all is good. Then maybe the movie runs ten minutes and it does it again.
In some cases the wireless network reappears but if I select it it still says I'm not connected to the internet.
I have to restart everytime or it will not properly reconnect to the internet or find my wireless net work and actually work and connect.
It has been connected in the same place for a year and never had an issue.
Nothing has changed..... I have not added a wall to cause interference....
My iPad and iPhone show FULL strength.
    Please help!

  • Was this iPod made for the mini!

    OMG
    (i don't say that often)
I really was jaded about iPod in general but I think I just got the wow factor from the latest one that seems to be the "mini" of iPod world. It is just "SO CUTE". For the first time I think when I get around to getting another player that will work with my mini, this is going to be near the top of the list of candidates.
    iPod Nano

    Justin,
After watching the presentation by Steve, I knew I had to:
    b Shred my visa
b Disable one-click shopping (I even considered to have my index finger removed by surgery)
b Setup parental control to deny access to Apple Store
b Apple stop making this stuff, you're bankrupting me...
runs off to find someone with access to the Apple Store

  • Battery question for the mini

So I recently bought a 1st gen ipod mini from a friend. Great condition but I was kind of bummed to hear the the 1st gen only has an 8 hour battery life.
Could I buy a 3rd party battery that would go for the 2nd gen (getting around 18 hours of battery) and put it in a 1st gen? Or if I were to give it to apple to replace they battery, do you thikn they would give me a longer battery or one that has just 8 hours of life to a charge?
    -thanks.

b Both the 1Gen and 2Gen Minis share the exact same battery.
The longer battery life of a 2Gen derives from two critical changes: a more efficient hard drive, and an imrpoved electronic chipset that manages power consumption better.
You cannot put a 2Gen battery in a 1Gen Mini and get any longer charge life!!!
i There is no such thing as a 2nd Gen battery.
That said, you can buy a higher capacity after-market replacement battery that will almost double your current battery charge life (for either the 1Gen or 2Gen). None of these replacement batteries are warranted by Apple - so ‘ya pays ya money and takes ya chances’...
See: http://pdasmart.com/products/AP39ipodpartscentermini.htm as an example. This is the largest that I have seen, but I'm not really looking at this time. Do a Google search for more like this.
Two posts on successfully replacing the iPod’s battery yourself:

  • Monitor w/speakers for the Mini?

Just bought a mini for the kids (6 & 8)  and now need to purchase a monitor. Our space is limited so I want to keep it small. Also don't have much room for extra speakers. Any suggestions for a good mini monitor with built in speakers?
Thanks for any tips you might have.

I have a set and find them to be really nice (small too). Are they as good as the several hundred dollar BOSE systems? No but they are pretty accurate and not boomy or tinny! Good speakers at a reasonable cost. Liked my Yamaha set a bit better but recently died. Got these for my birthday (My Choice) and love them.
I play trumpet and help a friend with the mix of his band (Now by band request). So I like quality sound. These are really good but not great.
