Why can't I use a dvi to rca adapter on a g4?
I'm trying to use a tv as a second monitor. I can do this on my g5 with fcp5. On my g4 I want to do the same thing for ae6. The adapter says for a g5. But what difference does it make. Is the signal different? The tv shows up a bunch of distorted lines, no clear image. How can I use a tv as a second monitor?

That is a BAD way to get the video out of the computer and is not a valid representation of the true video signal. Probably the reason it doesn't work is that it must be configured to be 640x480 with the proper refresh rate.

That connector may not be compatible with an Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini like yours.

USB to RCA adapter

Is there an RCA adapter that can work for a Mac Mini that will have female RCA inputs to either USB or FireWire? I'm trying to get my Camcorder movies onto my Mac Mini, only it has RCA out capability.

DVI to RCA Adapter

I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro with a DVI output. I am looking for an adapter that would allow me to connect my laptop to a projector that only has a yellow, red, white RCA input. I have tried searching for a DVI to RCA adapter but have not had any luck. Does anybody know of a product that would work?

GOOD GRIEF! Composite video??? Wow, that's one ancient projector, chronologically or technologically. Apple used to make them, heck I had one for my old Early 2008 MBP, but that's long gone from the Store. Maybe search eBay and see if it can be found there. BTW, it is DVI-X to RCA Composite or DVI-X to S-Video, if the projector has such an input. S-Video works a tad better than plain RCA.

RCA Adapter for Olevia TV

Recently, I was unable to watch cable on my television. Both the TV and the cable box were working fine, but the TV had a message saying "No Signal." The repairman from my cable provider said I needed to get an RCA adapter for it to work. I have a 27" Olevia model 227-S11. Can anyone tell me exactly what kind of adapter I need to purchase?

Your cable provider should be providing all the necessary cable to make this work. That's what your are paying for.

Hdmi to RCA adapter

I'm using a new intel mac mini to replace a video player in our middle school production studio. the Mac mini is running Mac is Lion, and a software package called Playback Pro. the main monitor is using the mini display port, and I purchased an hdmi to the RCA cable (yellow, red, white) for the connection of the playback into the production switcher. I cannot get composite video to work vid the hdmi port, but a standard hdmi to hdmi connection to a flat screen LCD monitor works just fine. how can I get this cable to work without having to purchase a hdmi to composite box?

Simple answer: you can't.
The "RCA connectors" are an analog signal, while HDMI is a digital signal. Some computers will make the same connectors do double duty. (e.g.: Most computer's DVI port has analog VGA signals.) But most HDMI ports do not have analog signals on them. the cable you purchased is likely for a specific model of computer, which does have an HDMI connector doing double-duty. So would only get composite video with that specific model of computer.
Even the mini-displayport on the Mini, which does provide an analog VGA signal, that is not directly compatible with analog composite video (or analog component video.)
So unfortunately, you need an adapter to get composite video from a Mac Mini, and not just a "simple cable."

I have the iPhone 5. I have the 8 pin to 30 pin converter adapter. I have a 30 pin HDMI/AV adapter. I also have the 30 pin AV/AV Component Cable (with RCA plugs). Can I connect my iphone 5 to my HD TV with these cords? If so, please explain how because I have tried my best to figure it out. I can get my husband's iphone 4 to connect and show on the TV but can not get my iphone 5 to.

Yes, cable works fine alone with it. I thought it might be something to do with the iphone power adapter and tried using the higher powered ipad adapter, but had the same results.

Mini dvi to RCA adaptor

I am trying to run my macbook (White), I think it is from 2007, to my tv via the VCR RCA inputs. I have successfully run sound through the headphone jack, but I get no video on the TV when I have it hooked up with the Apple mini dvi to RCA adapter. I have tried troubleshooting with the display setting in the mac preferences with no success.

Never heard of one failing, but that's with a small sample size. Does your screen resolution change when you plug it in? Does a 2nd monitor show up in the display preference pane?

When I unplug Mini-dvi to S-video adapter mouse often disappears

When I unplug my mini-dvi to s-video/rca adapter, the mouse cursor often disappears. This results in me having to restart the computer. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

You really need a newer Mac Mini with a true HDMI output, because that Mac Mini's DVI output does not support Audio.
You might try a 3.5mm to RCA adapter
from the Mac Mini's headphone jack to the TV's audio input,
but that would require being able to select the Audio input in the TVs menu while using it's HDMI input.
Optionally you could also use an external 2.1 Speaker System or patch the audio from the Mac Mini to your home stereo system to enhance that older Mac Mini's audio.

Satellite P300-18M - VGA to S-Video / RCA cable - No Picture on TV

First of all, I am trying to use my other laptop (Dell Lattitude D630) I with my TV, however, this other laptop only has a VGA output.

However, this does not work, the laptop in question does have "TV Out through VGA", so it should work according to various websites, and the seller....
However, I then tried to test it with my Satellite P300-18M, and it does not work with this either, I have tried both the composite (yellow port) and S-video port, in three different TV's, and there is no picture.
I have tried changing the settings in the ATI Catalyst Controll Centre, eg, forcing TV detection, and it detects the TV, however there is no picture on the TV, only grey lines.
If I cange the resoution and Refresh rate I can sort of get an image: [TV Picture|http://members.lycos.co.uk/jtfearnley/Hosting/Images/TV.jpg]
But this is the best thing.
In the past I have used all three television sets with my P300 using direct S-Video, so I do not understand why it will not work with this adapter.
Also, I know that this isn't a Dell forum, but I am not a member there, and this question is also concerning my Toshiba notebook, as it would be useful to be able to use the adapter for RCA instead of S-Video.

From my knowledge the VGA port can be used only in connection with an external monitor/LCD but not with the TV.
The point is that the common PAL TV (not LCD or plasma) supports a max resolution of 720 X 576px at 50Hz (NTSC 720 X 480 at 60Hz).
As far as I know only the s-video port provides such resolution.
The VGA port provides higher resolutions which are supprted by most external monitors.
However, I never connected the notebook to TV via VGA port so I can provide only some assumptions.
Of course it could be possible that the VGA to S-Video and RCA adapter is not fully compatible.
I read on different pages that cheap no-name adapters dont work as it should.

Mini display port to RCA TV

I just had a very frustrating weekend. It ended with a broken TV and a cut hand, but we won't go into that at the moment.
I bought a Mini display port to DVI cable, as well as a DVI to Video cable both from the mac store. This was so that I could use an RCA cable to connect it to my tv which is a few years old. However, it seems to me that the Mini displayport to DVI cable and the DVI to Video cable aren't even really compatable. There seem to be prongs or pins or whatever coming form the one that the other doesn't even have a slot for. So needless to say, it didn't work.
WHAT can I do to watch movies from my brand new macbook 13" on my old tv using video cables!?!?!?!

There are 3 kinds of DVI plugs: DVI-A (Analog only), DVI-D (Digital only), and DVI-I (Integrated, Digital and Analog signal). If there are no pins above the blade, it is DVI-D, which usually has compatibility problems with certain analog-only peripherals. If it does have the pins, it is either DVI-A or DVI-I, which means that it does have an analog signal. Since RCA cables use an analog signal, the DVI to RCA adapter must use DVI-A I'd imagine. I'm guessing that the MiniDP to DVI adapter uses DVI-D. I don't know why apple would do that, since they have a MiniDP to VGA adapter which uses an analog signal, so MiniDP must be able to send an analog signal (unless the VGA adapter has some converter to convert digital signals to analog). Hope that wasn't too confusing.

i have a mini displayport to vga cable (plugged into my macbook) and the vga to rca adapter connected into my tv's rca input. however there is no signal. is it possible to see my computer monitor on my tv? is there a setting on my computer? please help!!!

Possibly too many adapters.
Signal strength dropped off when I used minidisplay-to-DVI/DVI-to-VGA/VGA-keyboard-viedo-mouse splitter, and "nothing" came through. minidisplay-to-DVI/DVI cable worked fine.

Gaming usb adapter for iMac?

So finally my iMac 24" is coming tomorrow, and i also unearthed my old Nintendo 64.... I was wondering if there are any adapters out there where you can attach an RCA adapter from the N64 or xbox 360 to some device and plug it into the usb port. I know that there is one called GameBridge from Adaptec, but the discontinued those. Also I don't really want to pay $250 for that device from elgato where you can hook it up through that tv adapter. So anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help!

I really hope that someone will post who owns one of the products suggested. Are there any gaming systems that don't work with it? How is the quality of the tv reception in real world use? How about the software for recorded shows to the hard drive? Better with 20 in or 24 in iMac? I really want to get one for use with my iMac. I have an overwhelming and large 25 in. tube tv that is old and has horrible picture quality. I'm hoping that I can watch tv on my iMac and gain some space in my computer room.
It would be great if this product performs as claimed and isn't just hype.

N8 RCA Video out Cable ??

Ok I want to use my N8 to stream some content to my tv - but i dont have an HDMI tv. but i found this RCA adapter for the N8 that is supposed to do this. My question is what content will this cable allow for me to display on my tv? Are their certain apps that will work while others wont? The site that has it doenst seem to know anything about its details- I just signed up here hoping someone here has used this cable or can let me know if it will directly mirror what im doing or just certain apps will work.

Hmmmmmmmm! Sorry about that I never saw the box that mine came in. It was brought in a plastic bag with all the "in the box contents" and there was a video cable. Maybe the retailer had an extra one and decided to be generous but it was brand new and slightly different to the ones I got with both my N82's.
The Line out tip is silver instead of gold and the writing on the little block is white instead of gold like my two older ones. Seems like it was made at a different factory or with parts from a different supplier. It works exactly the same though
