  • Power Mac Mirror Door DVI or ADC to SINGLE RCA VIDEO OUT to a TV...adapter?

I have a Mirror Door G4 tower that I would like to use as a media center, with an old(er) Magnavox 19" television that only has the single yellow VIDEO IN jack, and the red and white audio L and R. Is there a converter cable that is similar to the one I used to use with my old G4 Powerbook which took the mini DVI and turned it into either composite video out? (I think it was Mini DVI, maybe ADC, whatever that little square video out on the Powerbook G4). I am prepared for low-res results, mostly just want to look at the itunes window and occasionally view utube clips or DVDs.
Also, does the G4 take the original Airport card (not the extreme), and if so does it need a separate antenna the way some G5s do?
And finally should I get good results with a Bluetooth dongle plugged into a USB port on the rear of the G4 when connecting a white Apple wireless keyboard?
Some of these answers will of course sort themselves out with experimentation, but any tips or experience in doing these things would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, m.

I expect the weasel-words in Apple's description are there to be sure that whatever Video card you choose, the card does actually provide the signals needed. These are the VGA-equivalent signals around the Bar at one end of the connector. That gets you Red, Blue, Green+Luminosity, H-Sync and V-Sync. Those signals in combination are all that is needed to build S-Video or Yellow-RCA composite video On-the-Fly (not buffered).
The signals can be sliced and diced to get slightly different versions of Analog Video using adapters built around the SKART interface. There is a cheap one-chip wonder converter used in lots of converters, also loosely called SKART.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKART
This does NOT do conversion to Digital Video, DVI, or HDMI when starting from VGA. That kind of converter has memory and scanning hardware that pushes the cost up higher than the price of an display card.

  • N8 RCA Video out Cable ??

Ok I want to use my N8 to stream some content to my tv - but i dont have an HDMI tv. but i found this RCA adapter for the N8 that is supposed to do this. My question is what content will this cable allow for me to display on my tv? Are their certain apps that will work while others wont? The site that has it doenst seem to know anything about its details- I just signed up here hoping someone here has used this cable or can let me know if it will directly mirror what im doing or just certain apps will work.

Hmmmmmmmm! Sorry about that I never saw the box that mine came in. It was brought in a plastic bag with all the "in the box contents" and there was a video cable. Maybe the retailer had an extra one and decided to be generous but it was brand new and slightly different to the ones I got with both my N82's.
The Line out tip is silver instead of gold and the writing on the little block is white instead of gold like my two older ones. Seems like it was made at a different factory or with parts from a different supplier. It works exactly the same though

  • Want to connect JVC analog video VHS to IMAC IMOVIE Two rca's out one labeled Video, One labeled, Audio. Do I need a digitizer to get edit capabilities in I-Movie?r

Trying to import video tape vhs to digital video of acceptable quality to use in I Movie, 2 RCA's out 1Video,1AUDIO, do I need an expensive A to D converter @ $200. plus? or is there a cheaper way?

    Yes!
Look for the Canopus ADVC110, which connects to your VCR via the RCA cables and your Mac via Firewire.

  • How can I get video out to my TV from my old G4 AGP 450mHz?

    Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has any idea how to get video out from my old G4 tower? It's an AGP model (1st gen), 450mHz. All I've found so far is a link to very expensive Radeon cards, well beyond what I need, which is:
    - S-video or even RCA out so I can see my computer on a TV screen
    - Solution for under or around $50
That's pretty much it. I can't seem to find a VGA to S-Video adapter anywhere out there - does it exist? I don't have DVI on this machine either.
I've Googled this all over, and I saw plenty of stuff to get a Mac Mini out with a DVI adapter, but this obviously won't work (no DVI)
    Any ideas?
    thanks

    Powerbook G4 867   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hmm... not a bad idea! I even checked and apparently an ATI Radeon 7000 supports video-out. Gonna see if I can get one for cheap - maybe on ebay. This will work fine with Panther or Tiger?
I've even considered buying a PC version of a Radeon card and flashing it to work with my G4, but that is very sketchy, even for me.
Will let you know how this turns out. Any other ideas are welcome

The not very expensive but also discontinued ATI
Radeon 8500 Mac Edition AGP card has VGA DVI and
S-Video out. Maybe you could try to find a used one
on the market... I bough one through other world
computing within the last year for not very much...
    Just an idea.

  • Is there a COMPONENT video OUT solution for the iBook?

I am currently using Apple's Video Adapter (mini-VGA to S-Video) to hook up to my widescreen. Let's face it, S-Video *****. I am trying to find a solution that would allow me to get component video out of my iBook and run that into my widescreen.
Is there a VGA->Component Video Adapter available that would work with the mini-VGA -> VGA adapter that ships with the iBook? (Or some other way to get a component video signal?)
    Thanks!
    iBook G4 1.2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1.25 GB RAM

    Hi Mactivist,
i am not an expert on this video stuff but I think
you might find this useful. Although the
procedure described is about a Mac Mini (which has a
dvi connector) the guy actually used a DVI-VGA
adapter. Therefore, I believe, the set-up described
    should work for you too.
    -Petra
Unfortunately, iBooks do not have DVI out. What I really need is a VGA to Component video adapter.
And for the person who wasn't sure what a component video cable looks like, this is a cable that has 3 rca-like plugs on it, each one supplies a different color (RGB I think).
So far, I've not found a VGA adapter that can do this unless you are using an ATI video card as the source.

  • S-video out nonfunctional

I've tried over time to use this output, never to any avail. Now I'm editing with FCP 2 in OS 9.2 and it would be great to output the FCP signal to a TV for reference.
But the TV doesn't show up as an available monitor, whether I'm running a second monitor through the vga output or not.
I can access the TV (and a second monitor through the VGA) through Firewire and a DV camera--shows up fine. But the video out doesn't seem to output anything. Even when I disconnect the VGA monitor and try to use the video out by itself.
I can't connect to a TV through the video out when running OS 9.2 or OS 10.3 outside of FCP either. The TV just doesn't appear.
Since the output is S-video and the connector supplied with the powerbook converts the signal to RCA connector, I am assuming it is also converting the S-video signal to composite. But nothing is exported.
I've read the resource files on this, but don't find an answer.
    Thanks for any help,
    Robert
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS 9.2.x   400 mhz

Thanks, Alex. With your suggestions as encouragement I kept trying. Taking into account that only a single external monitor can be used. My big discovery--the monitors and TVs don't hot swap. They have to be connected before a cold boot.
So I got the TV working as a monitor in both OS X and OS 9.2. And discovered it has a fairly lousy image, not much use in Final Cut Pro.
So my FCP set-up is still to use the VGA monitor for extra screen space, and to use firewire to route through a camcorder to the TV monitor, which gives a nice standard TV image of video out.
    All best,
    Robert
In the displays system preference panel, there is a
"Detect Displays" option. This is also where you do
any configuration for the svideo output resolution.
Remember, you can only use one or the other - VGA or
    svideo, not both.

  • Video Out  and iPod

If you have one of those 30pin to RCA stereo & composite video cables. Will the iPod app output a video image of the current song album art, or will the app only do video out for actually watching videos?
I've got an interface I was going to install that makes me be able to control my iPod playback on my iPhone using my car's native stereo controls (it is done using the CD Changer port on the cars stereo). But my car also has RCA input jacks for composite video and audio. I love the MotionX GPS app and think it would be cool to see the GPS screen on my iPhone on my car's screen. So I was thinking of just using the RCA jacks combined with an RF or bluetooth remote control. But if I can't see any song information via the composite video out, then forget it.

i believe the video out would only work when playing videos and nothing else. this is because it would be impossible to control the iPhone from your car stereo unless they created a complete interface to work with the iPhone, and the only way to do that would be to get code from apple and i doubt that will ever happen...

  • Trying to connect IPhone 4s to TV using AV TV RCA Video USB connector Does this require any special software?

Have been unable to get IPhone 4S to show up on AV TV
Using AV TV RCA Video USB connection. Have tried in
HD 720i, HD 1080i and 1080p TV's.  Is there any special
software needed on the I Phone to do this?  if so please
    advise.

I don't think the dock can support the HDMI dongle. I know it will do Video Out via Composite cable.
The actual dock itself has not been updated for a few years, so this may explain your problem. The packaging was changed last year to include the new remote, dock adapters, and a wall charger. The dock itself is still identical to the 2009 model.

  • Video Out to Sony Camcorder does work

I used a Apple cable (Monitor out to Serial or RCA) to video recorder what is on my mac's screen (using the camcorder as a second monitor. The G5 does not see the sony camcorder.. however, when you use the video out from a powerbook under display preferences the dialog box comes up detect displays and you can choose to miror the display and you can see the same mac screen on my camcorders display. On the G5 that option does not come up. I went to the Apple store and the Genius's did not know why the G5 could not recognize the sony camcorder as a second monitor? Anyone have a clue? I want to record what is on my G5 screen... any suggestions.

    NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
Not sure which graphic card the Macbook Pro has.. but it worked just fine when I connect the appropriate adapter.. you could see the mac screen on my camcorder screen. I am trying to video tape Itunes visualizer for a party so I can cut and paste into imovie.

  • Radeon 9200 s-Video out to tv?

I've got a Blue and white Power Mac G3 with 1 gig of ram and a 600 mhz G4 processor and a radeon 9200 Mac edition graphics card. I'm try to send the desktop image as is to my tv through the s-video out. I've got the tv connected but the screen is blank. Has any one done this? How do I get the signal to got to both my monitor and my tv? Anybody know?

OK my problem was none of my equipment had an s-video in so I bought an a-b switch that had an s-video in and RCA outs and that was the problem. I took it back and exchanged it for something that converts s-video to coaxial out and that works like a charm.

  • Zen Vision M Video Out to TV problem (with proprietary cable!)

I am the original owner of a 60 GB Zen Vision M that works perfectly. I have purchased the proprietary A/V cable for the unit when I purchased it but never had occasion to use it. I now have a flat panel display on which I should like to display video files. The information screen says it has version .2.02 (I assume that?s firmware.)
Customer support for the product is no longer available. I have set the video out to ?auto NTSC? I have wonderful sound but nothing shows on the screen from the yellow RCA video plug that comes out of the same white cable from Creative. UI have connected it to several different sets, two of which are older tube sets. No luck.
    Any help here?
    Thanks.

Anyone tried holding down power and pressing the reset at the same time. Then after hit clean up from the recovery menu. I was told to do that but i havent tried test it out on tv output yet.
Warning: it clears all the settings in your zen player. (Custom eq, menus, all zen settings)

  • Can't do video out from multimedia port

I am trying to connect a 'multimedia cable' to my powerbook 15" via the port to the left of the headphone port. I thought this was the video + audio out port. The mini plug has three segments to it, and fits into this hole. But no signal is sent to the TV set. How do I get this to work without connecting S-video and then a stupid headphone adapter-to-RCA?
What is the port to the left of the headphone port? It looks like a box with two triangles pointing into it.
    Seth

Thanks! Wish it were audio-video out like on the clamshell ibooks, but I guess I'll buy the cords for the headphones-to-RCA adapter.
    Appreciatively,
    Seth

  • The Video Out Problem...Fixed?

I know Wikipedia can be edited by virtually anyone with membership and an opinion, but I had to know.
It said that an itunes update 1.0.2 fixed the video out problem...does that mean that videos can now be connected to a TV and play on the TV? They fixed that?
I am still ever in the market for the nano, just waiting until the right ammount of money to purchase one. Thanks

I think it is currently working according to this knowledgebase article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300233
That is, for the new Nano, you can use the older iPod Universal Dock (ie the normal one that has been available for a couple of years) together with an iPod composite video cable or an SVideo cable (ie all currently-available stuff you may have already bought for a previous-series video iPod), OR you can use the brand new "Apple Universal Dock" with the brand new Apple Composite AV Cable or with the (new) Apple Component AV Cable, OR you can use one of those brand new Apple AV Cables directly with the Nano (without the new Apple Universal Dock).
What you cannot do is connect an old video cable or accessory, which was expecting to get composite video from the RCA/audio jack on the Nano, because it looks like (on the new Nano and the Classic) the audio out jack is now just for audio out and video is only available via the dock connector on the iPod.
