RD into Windows 8.1 occasionally starts failing

Please help I'm stumped.... I have a Windows 8.1 stand-alone machine, which is not attached to any domain controller.  After a period of days or weeks, it seems I can no longer remote desktop into this machine.. until it has been rebooted.
I seem to have been doing OK for months... usually having no problem getting in from OS x or Windows 7.  But lately, after a period of time has elapsed, I can no longer get in.  On the Win 7 client machine, I get all the way to certificate error
prompt (not from trusted authority), I choose Yes to connect despite cert error, then after a few seconds, it goes right back to the original RD client dialog where connection is initiated from.
On the MAC, after I enter the user name and password, it takes a few seconds, like it's trying to connect and then just closes (goes back to the RD client's list of connections).  In the past, I told the Mac Client to start trusting the certificate,
which was working OK.  Here is the log from the Mac's RD Client (ver 8.0.14):

    Hi,

I have tried everything I can think of, and everything on every thread I've found on related topics. No luck. If I try to start the service myself via services.msc I get the following message:
The Windows Font Cache Service service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some Services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi micrey! It works!
    1. Type “services.msc” into the Start Search
    bar and hit Enter.
    2. Find the Windows Font Cache Service, select
    it and hit “Stop”.
    3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to “C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local”
    requires admin privileges
    4. Delete the FontCache dat files. (They will
    be regenerated over time.)
    5. Restart the Windows Font Cache Service.
    Thank you!

  • Satellite C55-A-1L0 won't start into Windows 8

    Hey guys.
I hope you can help me a little.
I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1L0 here and it won't start into Windows 8.
I turn it on, the Toshiba welcoming screen appears, then I get a message on a black screen saying "checking media (fail)" and after a little while "no bootable device. Please restart"
I checked the BiOS and it doesn't seem to see the Hard Disk (says HDD- none) and even in the list of boot order I get a list with the DVD drive with exact name but for HDD not.
I tried to do a recocery with the F12 button and I get the list to choosw from where I want to boot but selecting harddisk doesn't work.
So I thought I'd try a linux live distribution to see where my hard disk is and to save my data (after some settings in the BIOS - boot mode CMS) but I cannot find it there too. (I have a mtab and fstab file, would it help if I posted it in here?)
Is my HDD broken? Can I try something else?
    Thanks a lot!

This notebook model is pretty new and I presume with valid warranty so I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
Using diagnostic tools they can check if problem is HDD or HDD controller.
On this virtual way we cannot say for sure what the problem is. In my opinion you should not waste your time because you cannot do much if there is hardware related issue.
Last step you can try is to set BIOS to default settings and check it again.

This error message is seen every time when first starting Windows Vista, PRIOR to starting Photoshop Elements 12.1
It does not seem to interfere with the normal operation of Photoshop Elements, but it is a constant annoyance.

  • X79A GD45 Slow start and slow boot into windows with SSD

Im having some major issues with my X79A GD45 board, When I start the system it takes about 30 seconds sometimes more for something to appear on the screen and from cold boot it starts stops and then starts again before loading.
Once its loaded it is taking forever to get into windows Im running 2 6gb/s SSD's in raid and the windows logo is able to appear and flash 3 or 4 times before I even get into windows.
Ive tried it with just a single drive and re installations of windows but get exacly the same thing its driving me mad as Ive spent so much money on this machine. Details of my system are below:
    MSI X79A GD45 v1.0 Bios 1.6
    Intel I7 3820
    Corsair Vengeance 16gb 1600 Cl9
    2 x GTX 680 in SLi
Creative Soundblaster 3D Recon Fatality Sound Card
    2 x Sandisk Extreme 240gb in Raid 0
    Silvertone Strider 850w PSU
    LG Bluray Writer

Updated the SSD Firmwares and it made no difference. Ive already tried single drives and the same. The drives are installed into SATA 1 and SATA2 ports the 6gb/s ones. The hang time is atleast 20 seconds at the splash screen alone before loading into windows. I checked the event log for booting and this is what it showed:

    0) Explain how exactly you launch JNLP when it does not work.We have a website with a link to a jnlp file. User clicks on the link the jnlp file downloads and installs.
"install the jnlp from the dos window" - do you mean run "javaws applicationURL"?Yes. But actually that only worked because we had already installed a Java 6 version.
When it does not work do you use Deployment Toolkit to embed link into web page?

  • X64 Oracle 11g R2 Install On i7 3770 Windows 7 x64 Enterprise System Fails

x64 Oracle 11gR2 installation on my new Windows 7 x64 Enterprise system fails after the "Desktop/Server Class" screen. I click Next, and then nothing happens. The install app closes and no installation logs are available. I checked the Windows logs and there is nothing obvious.
My new system has an Intel i7 3770 cpu with 32GB of ram. My old system had twin Intel Xeon EM64T cpus with 3GB of ram. Both systems ran Windows 7 x64 Enterprise. x64 Oracle 11gR2 installed and ran fine on the old system, but the old system started making "funny" noises and had to be replaced.
This is my personal system, not a commercial installation. I got Win 7 x64 Enterprise from my community college, which is a Microsoft Partner. I need Oracle for my relational database classes.
    The story so far:
    1. I downloaded win64_11gR2_database_1of2 and win64_11gR2_database_2of2 and unpacked both of them into a folder named win64_11gR2_database_install, replacing as necessary.
    2. I set up a loopback adapter and added the following entry to c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts:
10.10.10.10 localhost PaulK-PC # Loopback Adapter for Oracle 11gR2 Install
    3. After creating the loopback adapter, I restarted my PC. I can ping the adapter with no problems.
    4. I ran c:\Users\PaulK\Downloads\Oracle\win64_11gR2_database_install\database\setup.exe as Administrator.
    5. I skipped email notification, since I don't have a support agreement.
    6. I select "Create and configure a database".
    7. Whether I select Desktop Class or Server Class, when I click Next, the installation app dies.
Page 2-2 of Oracle Database Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Windows E24186-01 states that an x64 installation of Oracle requires an AMD64 or EM64T cpu. Does this mean I need to install the x86 version of Oracle 11gR2, or is there some other problem?
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Unable to boot into Windows 7

Hello, today I was playing some video games inside of Windows 7, upon noticing that whenever the computer had an area that text could be entered, it would spam the space bar into that area. Ex. when i would hit the start menu, in the little text box that is for searching, the courser would move continuously across it, as if the space bar was being pressed. So I restarted. As normal when I heard the startup chime i pressed and held the option key to bring up the OS selection tab. But instead of bringing up the menu, it booted straight to OSX. (i tried this a few times with the same results). So I went into the bootcamp menu in settings on osx and selected windows as the startup OS. I then restarted. When the computer started up I was prompted to select Windows 7 to continue the boot process, so I did. It then went to the starting windows screen where it became stuck. I force shut down and tried again, but this time i tried to repair the disk in windows. The first time it failed to repair, then i did a memory test and when it restarted it worked. In windows i told bootcamp to use OSX as the startup disk and tried holding down option to go back to windows again, nothing, it went to osx. So in osx i went into the bootcamp menu in settings again, and selected windows and restarted. It got stuck on the selection screen in windows and i force shut down and tried again, but this time with with repair again. This time the repair was successful and it went to windows normally. So now it appears that i can only boot into windows by telling bootcamp that i want to boot into windows automatically.  Holding down the option key does not seem to bring up the disk selector. I can verify that the option key does work because i tried 'command+option+esc" and it worked. any ideas on what the frik is going on?

Update! So apparently I believe the problem is coming from a few windows updates that are out. Whenever I repaired the disk it always uninstalled those updates. I repaired the disk again because it got stuck on bootup and when i logged back on it asked me to re install those updates. without them installed the option key thing worked again. So i guess i wont be updating this thing anymore...

  • Can't boot into Windows??

Hi!! This is my theory about not being able to boot into windows. If you have made a system repair disc like you should have made on day one; and your PC will not boot with the system repair CD, you probably have some serious hardware problems.
I'm going to steal this reply from cee64 again. A system repair CD can be made from any PC that is running W7 ect.
Hi I'm going to steal this reply from cee64. I'm sure he won't mind!
"It is quite possibly the hard drive is failing or has failed.  The reason you can't get into the bios or boot from a CD/DVD is because the bios it hanging trying to recognize the hard drive.  Try removing the hard drive and see if it will allow you into the bios or boot to a CD/DVD.  If it does, go the hard drive manufacturer's support site, downlod their hard drive diagnostic ISO image, then use the burn from image option to create the self booting cd, then boot to it and run the most exhaustive diagnosis on it if it will boot.  If you can't get it to boot to the diagnostic disk while the hard drive is installed you'll more than likely need to replace the hard drive.
If it won't get you into the bios or boot to a CD/DVD with the hard drive out of the system you need to try reseating the ram.  If that doesn't help you probably have a bad motherboard.  In this case it would more than likely be cheaper to just replace the laptop than fix it."
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-use-a-system-repair-disc-to-restore-windows.html
If Seatools found your HD good, then you have a good chance of using the recovery disks or the recovery partion to restore you back to factory setting. If that fails, you may be down to a bad motherboard. I know of no program to test the MB. You can use memtest 86 to test your Ram. I think it tests some parts of your MB, but can't say that for sure.

Hi! I stole this reply from Jerry Edited One link, because it failed to open
Let's start here. The spec above says your machine came with 32-bit Windows Vista. Have you changed it?
We need to reach the recovery environment. Can you do it this way?
       http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-happened-to-the-Recovery-Console
If not, burn a system repair disc from this download (assuming 32-bit Windows).
Download Windows Vista Recovery Environment ISO X86 version (32 bit)

  • Mac book pro (2008)will not start up,command-v gives (error) Import:Importer start failed for 89(kr:268435459)invalid destination port)

    will not start up.
    tried Command-v
    message reads
(error) Import:Importer start failed for 89 (kr:268435459)invalid destination port)

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

I  have a new issue with all DPs.
When I pxe boot, it will boot into WinPE but then it will fail and reboot after the step: “Preparing network connections”
I have tried reinstalling the DP and MP. Also redistributing the boot image.
When I press F8 to go into debug mode, ipconfig show me an IP address and I am able to ping my Management point, my DHCP server and also my Distribution point.
I have attached the smsts.log file.

Every time a query is sent to the MP, it receives 0x80072ee2 which translates to "The operation timed out". This has nothing to do with your MP or DP though so reinstalling them won't make any difference.
This error is indicative of network issues -- basically, the "client" is not getting a response back in a timely manner (and probably not at all). Assuming the MP is healthy though, then only other piece of the puzzle is the network.
You can try setting the SMSTSAssignmentsDownloadRetry and SMSTSAssignmentsDownloadInterval task sequence variables in the boot image to increase the client's tolerance for latency or other weirdness in the network. This has worked for many.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to break out a sniffer and watch the traffic to see what's going on at a network level.

  • Windows 2008 R2 ADCS install fails

    Hello,
I am trying to install a Standalone Root CA on a Windows 2008 R2 machine.  Each time I try to install the role it says installed with errors.  The error is 0x80070422, I am only trying to install the CA and CA Web Enrollment roles.
I can get the CA to install without errors, but when I try to install the CA Web Enrollment role is when it fails.  I have also tried to install the online responder by itself and it too failed with the 0x80070422 error.  I have tried sfc /scannow
and chkdsk /r /f with no issues.  I removed the anti-virus software and malware software to try and get this installed with no luck.  Checking the logs the only error that pops when these roles are installed is the VSS, and right after there is a
VSS entry in the logs saying that the VSS is working, there are also VSS entries prior to this that show it is working.    Anyone have a clue as to how to get this installed?

If you don't already have one, use another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD.  Download the relevant ISO from the links below.
    Windows 7 32bit
    Windows 7 64bit
You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, or if you already have this, tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Insert the Rescue CD.  Select Boot options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.
When loaded, select Repair Your Computer and choose the Command Prompt.  When this loads, enter the following commands and hit enter after each one - include spaces as shown.
    Bootrec.exe
    bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
    c:
    cd boot
    attrib bcd -s -h -r
    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
    bootrec /RebuildBcd
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
Remove the Rescue CD and try rebooting the notebook.
    Regards,
    DP-K
