RD230 - RAID configuration

Good afternoon,
I'm setting up an RD230 (4100 model) and i've stalled at the RAID configuraiton. The EasyStartup cd (3.1.3) keeps telling me that i need to set the SATA mode to SW RAID in the Bios. However the only options i get are "Enhanced IDE" & RAID, neither of which pick up the drives.
I've tried updating the BIOS to no effect. Struggling a bit here if someone could give me a hand.
Thanks

We managed to work around it.
It turned out that what we were sold was incorrect, we were sold 3 SAS drives on a SAS back plate without a RAID Controller.. So the only option was for SW RAID.
We opted to use 4 SATA drives instead of the SAS drives, from this we were able to use the Intel RAID controller on boot up. It literally does flash up in a split second though, so you have to be quick.

  • S10 RAID configuration = AHCI = Blue Screen under Vista x64

I'm trying to setup a SATA RAID 1 configuration on my new S10 and it's really a nightmare...if I enable the Raid option in the BIOS it enables also the AHCI feature and my Vista x64 (pre-installed on the S10) don't boot, it just show me a blue screen that I don't even have the time to read. If I disable the AHCI option it's ok I can't boot again.
The question is simple, how can I achieve to install an updated AHCI driver for Vista x64 in order to boot and then use the RAID features of my S10 ?
I've tried do download the latest version of the IMSM from Intel (x64 vista version) but it does'nt want to install saying that I haven't the required configuration. My S10 uses an ICH 9 chipset, so I don't understant why I can't install this update.
Please what is the solution to have AHCI and RAID working on an S10 WITHOUT REINSTALLING Vista (I don't have any installation CD and don't wan't to) ???? Note that my system is up to date regarding the ThinkVantage drivers (and windows updates also)
Thanks by advance for your help

I finally achieve to configure AHCI under Vista x64 on my S10 (but still a problem with RAID..), here's how I did :
    - Open registry, go to the Key \HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
    - Set the DWORD "Start" at 0 (it was 4 on my system)
    - Restart your computer then Enable immediatly the AHCI feature in the BIOS
    - Vista will start without BSOD using it's default SATA AHCI driver. Let it detect & install your AHCI periphals before going to the next step
    - Install the latest Lenovo IMSM update for S10 from here : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69984.html.
    - Restart the computer it should boot without any blue screen, go to the Vista device manager and check that your IDE ATA/ATAPI controller is "Intel(R) ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller".
AHCI is active now, but RAID still doesn't work...here's what I did :
    - I backup my main HDD with R&R (after having installed AHCI)
    - I restart and enable the SATA RAID in the BIOS
    - Restart again, CTRL+I to open IMSM and create my RAID 1 array (2x500GB) under the name "Volume0" (all parameters to default)
    - Ok, raid array created, I now boot from my R&R emergency CD and restore my backup
    - 3 hours later I reboot...and blue screen again just when Vista starts (seems to be the same BSOD than with AHCI)
    - if I disable the RAID option in BIOS the (but let AHCI enabled) Vista boots again and everything seems fine, and it seems that my raid array is still configured for Windows since I see a Volume0 drive in the device manager. But RAID is disabled in the BIOS so what ?
I am lost, I spent 2 full days on these AHCI/RAID problems and nothing seems to work correctly. Each test on RAID configuration needs 3 hours of restoration. I am very dissapointed to see how RAID is complicated to configure on the S10, it's is exactly to avoid this kind of problem that I bought a "workstation" and it's a nightmare.
Hope you can help me, thanks.

  • TS140 RAID - no ROM configuration utility on boot

Might someone help me setup RAID on a new TS140 (70A4001LUX).   I have installed a 128GB SSD and intend to use Windows 7 (64 bit).
As a first step, I've gone into the BIOS and under Devices->ATA Drive Setup, and selected RAID, as I intend to purchase a few larger drives for this purpose later.
However, when I reboot, I do not see the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology ROM configuration utility" upon system start (as noted in the user manual).  Instead, the machine complains there is no operating system.
Any suggestions would be most appeciated.
    Thanks!!

I just picked up a TS140 and noticed the same issue.  The following steps / BIOS settings fixed it for me.  (From the downloadable Configuring ThinkServer RAID 100 on the TS140 and TS440 guide by Lenovo.)
    1. In the BIOS Setup Utility, go to the “Devices” tab and select “ATA Drive Setup.” Set “SATA Controller” to “Enabled” and “Configure SATA as” to “RAID.”
    2. “Hard Disk Pre-delay can be set to “Disabled” (the default).
    3. Select the “Startup” tab from the menu, then select “CSM” and set it to “Enabled.”
(Note: for "Boot Mode", I have found that "UEFI Only" works best for me with RAID enabled.)
F10 to save & reboot.  You should now see the option (for a few seconds) to enter the RAID configuration utility via Control-I.

  • ThinkServer RD230 RAID 5 Centos problem

    Greetings
I have a Thinkserver RD230, type 4011, model 16u with four drives of 3000GB each.
Some problems occur when I try to install centos 6.2
The first problem, is that the array only recognizes 750GB instead 3000GB, as the hardrives size, but I created, in a test way, a RAID 5 for understand the problem (the resulting array are 2.1 TB of capacity).
The second problem is, when y try to install Centos, this show the 4 drives  separated (with complete capacity of 3000GB each one) instead one (that is the common situation when you create a raid in a controller).
I'm not sure if the upgrade of the firmware in the bios and the controller, solves this problems or not.
I appreciate all help and info.
    Thanks.

    Hi Howie;

  • T42 Restore factory configuration impossible - but recovery part exist

    Hello,
I have a T42 (IBM bought in my business school)
When  I bought it the PC had 4 part in the Hard Drive
    2 part visible
    - C: SYSTEM
    - E: USER DATA
    1 part hidden
    - IBM_Service W:  (the recovery part) - all the program and a 2 drive partition C and D or E
    + BIOS
To be able to restore the factory configuation I had in the menu to start Windows Two choices
    - Start Windows normally
    - Restore factory configuration
Due to a problem on the laptop I had to restore the factory configuration 2 or 3 times in the last two yearss. It worked well two times.
But  Last time the Laptop did not recognize after the restoration the E: DRIVE. It was on the computer but with no name and no possibility to access it.
I uses TESTDISK to regive a name E to this part and be able to use it and restore the data in it but during the process the Recovery part (Drive W which was hidden appeared on the System list
On the same time the choice "Restore factory configuration " on the list of the start of Windows disappear. I use my friend computer to put back on the list the name of the choice but this link can't restore the Factory configuration because it is no longer configurate for it.
Is there a possibility to boot the PC on the Recovery part in order to restore the factory configuration?
does this manipulation will keep my 2 drive configuration C: + USER DATA drive (E with all the data saved in it? That works the first two times
Thanks in advance for your help
This will help me very much

Whoever told you this was mistaken.  With the exception of hardware changes (eg modem from T41 to T42) the disks within a series should work just fine (I've just recovered aT41 with my T42 CDs).  The only difference in using early T42 recovery with a later T42 is the fingerprint reader.  Later T42 disks should work just fine with an early T42.  Go ahead and use your T42 disks on her machine.

  • The "write key" configuration file vi use of "trim string" prior to writing the data can modify any string data written.

I tried to use the config VIs to record some front-panel settings for later restoration, one of which could be a single space character (part of a string parsing system).
I soon discovered that whenever I tried to save that single-space value to an INI file, only a null string was saved.
After doing some digging I discovered that buried in the Write Key vi is a worker vi called Config Data Modify that uses Trim String on the string data before it is written to the file and that's what was eating my string character. I don't know whether this is a bug or a feature but there are at least three ways to fix it.
    1) Assuming you want to leave the library VIs alone, you can pre-process any stings sent to "write key" to replace all spaces with "\20" and then post-process all strings read using "read key" to replace all instances of \20 with spaces.
and if you don't mind modifying the library VIs, either to save/use under a different name or to stick back into the library in a modified state (caution - can cause problems when you move code to another machine with an un-modified library) then...
    2) You can yank the trim-string out of the Config Data Modify vi and hope that it does not have any undesirable side effects with regards to the other routines that use Config Data Modify (so far I have not found any in my limited testing)
    or
    3)  You can modify the string pre-processing vi, Remove Unprintable Chars, to add the space character to the list of characters that get swapped out automatically.
Note that both option #1 (as suggested above) and option #3 will produce an INI file data entry that looks like    key="\20Hello\20World\20"   while option #2 produces an entry that looks like   key=" Hello World "

    Hi Warren,
    there's a 4th option:
Simply set the "write raw string" input of the write key function to TRUE
This option only appears when a string is wired to that function!
    Just re-checked:
I think it's a limitation of the config file format. It's text based and (leading) spaces in the value are "overseen" as whitespaces. So your next option would be to use quotes around your string with spaces...

  • "Display cannot switch to secondary landscape with this configuration" Error on x201 T

Hi, I've just bought x201 for 2 weeks. Today I tried to rotate the screen in tablet mode  so I can get the battery with my hand when I read documents but after rotation  and after just 1-2 second it automatically get back to primary landsacpe view and gives me this error. I wonder what is the problem and more importantly what is the solution?
    thanks

More info: I turned off auto-login, and was able to log in to my test account. Then, I was able to use fast user switching to switch to my main account. I will try again restarting into my main account and see if I can switch to Test. This failed consistently before I posted here. Perhaps the "sense Mac guru" circuit kicked in and cured the problem. I'm about ready to turn in so won't post a follow-up until tomorrow. Right now, I need to use my two accounts to get the job done (a writing job with screen shots of a new unaltered account). Then, I'll go back to trying to see if the problem still exists when I log in to the main account first.

  • How to open a configuration file with a relative path?

I want to open a configuration file during the initialization of my application (first "state," u can say) and I am using "Open Config file.vi" and tried to pass the config file's path as "data\myconfig.ini" and the "File exists?" vi didn't give any error (simply, the output was "false") but the Open config File gave an error.
If I pass an absolute path "D:\xyz\xyz\myconfig.ini" it works fine. Isn't it allowed to use "relative path" as I remember using it before for other tasks?
I actually prefer to have this file in the "data" folder that my application's setup will create in the destination directory while installing the application, because it will be easy when I want to ask the user to open and edit it. Or, I would just put it in "C:\" which exists on all the windows computers, but then it would be too much open.
    Thanks ahead!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Relative paths have sometimes a meaning for command line tools (where a relative path gets appended to the current path, which usually is the executables directory).
But for Windows GUI applications that makes not much sense. Windows also maintains a per process current path, but that path gets updated by several Windows APIs, one of them being the File Dialog. So whatever your user has last selected in any file dialog inside your application will from then on be the applciations current path. It should be clear that with such a braindamaged current path implementation it has basically no useful meaning, and LabVIEW consequently does not do path expansion, where relative paths are expanded by prepending them with the applications current path.
Also LabVIEW uses mostly the Windows 32 Bit API, which does provide the current path implementation but does almost not use it in any of its file operations. The use of that feature is mostly reserved for the Windows shell API, which is a higher level API that can as best be described as a collection of various APIs that have been thrown together by whatever some MS developer felt at the moment. You can not by any means call it a designed API at all, and LabVIEW makes almost no use of it, as it needs lower level access, to make its operation similar in its working across all the platforms, LabVIEW can run on.
So while you can work with relative paths inside your application (and actually should as much as possible to make your application not depend on a particular location) you should make that path absolute whenever you pass it to a function that actually accesses a file somewhere.

The datamember configurations can be exported. In edit mode, File->Export Process Data Members...

  • How to get the configuration of a bank (not with FP get configuration info)?

    Hi everybody!
I need my fieldPoint application to be able to check
for the filedpoint structure, that is I want my application
to return the number of FP nodes, and for each node how many FP IO modules are connected, and of which
    type.
I'd like not to use "FP get configuration info",
which is based on locating the .iak file.  I have my .iak file
correctly generated, but I do not want to use it.
At the end, I'd like to have a variable configuration, and when I change module order and number, I don't want
to re-generate a .iak file, (because I don't want to use MAX... ).
Should I query my modules until I reach an error?......

    First of all, thanks, Khalid!
I want to use the COM port. I gave a look to the "Find
FP-100x example", based on optomux commands, and I found it very
interesting, to my purpose. But I have some questions about it.
First of all, in the example I have to provide explicitly
an address (the fp1001 address, 0x0 for me), so I should build a loop,
in which I scan all possible addresses (that is 0, 10, 20,... ) which
generate many errors, in normal conditions.
After this, in the example I get a Module ID, which is:
       FP1001 -----> ID: 2
       FP-DI-301 --> ID 105
       FP-DO-401 --> ID 106
       FP-DI-301 --> ID 105
       FP-DO-401 --> ID 106.
The list actually matches the order of my FP chain, but
I'd like to know if  these IDs are given to the modules when
they're configured for the first time in MAX, or are set in HW?
       Thanks!

Hello reblthepit, HP systems are a bit picky about what memory will work in a HP system.
You might want to go to Crucial.com and run their memory configurator and let Crucial advise the memory that is certified compatible with your system. This takes the guessing out of trying to purchase memory that is supported for your system.
Just because the motherboard will boot the start of the bIOS does not neccessarily tell you a lot. If you had some memory issues, and no memory was recognized by the BIOS, you would be getting some beep error codes.
If the motherboard was not a genuine HP Provided motherboard, it will not work with the HP provided operating system. You would need to purchase a new operating system.
You also could not just replace the motherboard and try to start the system without a new installation of the operating system. There would just be too many driver conflicts.
    Just some thoughts.

"The labview adapter is currently configured to run tests in an environment that does not support editing VI's. In order to edit or create VI's, you must select a different labview Active X server in the lab view adapter environment"
So, I clicked on all the options allowed to me in the "Module Adapter" (is this the same as the drop down menu (by default)"Labview Standard Prototype adapters") but I was still unable to open the VIs for editing
    Anyone know how or why?

    Hi,
You will find the option under Configure | Adapters...then select the labview and press the configure button.
So if you are not able to do this then it could be because your system doesn't have the LabVIEW development system or you do not have adminstrator rights (Teststand login) or it could be that your VI's have been saved without diagrams.
What are you logged in as?
Do you know if you have labVIEW?
