  • How to use Serial/Parallel Port/DAQ card of a PC to run a SPI communication?

    Hi, dear all,
I am looking for a method to send 10-bit word data to AD8403 Digital Potentiometer from PC’s Serial/Parallel Port or DAQ card.
Is it possible to implement such a communication with LabVIEW?
Are thee ready VIs for this application?

There are some vi's that should work for you for the parallel port. However it has been communicated that with windows after 98 it's a little bit more complex...
I add a llb I downloaded from this forum a while ago that should perfectly fit your need (if you get it to work :-)

  • Question: serial/parallel port

Hi, I am trying to control a simple digital switch using labview and either
my serial- or parallel port. I want to control each individual pin on the
port: to turn on/off +5V on the output pins. Does anybody now how? Is it
possible? I am running labview 6.1 on W2k.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Luca, JS & Pawel,
in general everything is correct, but I would suggest to use the "Out Port" and "In Port" functions from LabVIEW. Have a look to the simple printer_port_test.vi. This also needs the accesshw as already explained.
In addition I recommend to use buffer-circuits in between LPT and an application in order not to destroy the motherboard-Chips by accident !!

  • Satellite M45-S169 PSM43U: need to connect to a serial & parallel port

    Hello!
I have an old model of Satellite and I need to connect it with a machine that has old fashioned entrences, with pins (mother and father) and was told that I need a replicator (serial and paralell).
Now, I'm very confused because I'm not technical so please advise me on two things: is there something that does such thing? (usb to old fashion pins) and if there is I really need to buy it (so please pusrchase details).
Sorry if I've been so bad at describing what I need. I'm an electronist and am working with big machines therefore I need to connect my laptop to the machine;s software.
    Thank you

Hmm. The new-age generation notebooks dont support the serial or parallel ports
Therefore youve got not many possibilities to connect a older devices to a notebook which was not equipped with the serial or parallel port.
As far as I know there are some USB-to-serial or USB-to-parallel port adapters.
Google a little bit and Im sure you will find some good offers.
But note; I read somewhere that not all adapters work properly you will have to investigate a little bit.
    Good luck

  • Parallel port not detected in measurement and automation explorer

I have installed labview 2010 in windows XP.
The problem what I am facing is I could not find "Serial & Parallel port" option in Measurement and automation explorer.
After seeing the similar problem in forum I have installed Ni-Daqmx 9.0.2.  But still I can not see the ports in MAX.
I think i have attached enough document .
If the parallel port is not detected in MAX can we send digital data to parallel port.
I have tested parallel port with LED connecting one leg in 1st data line(pin 2) and another in gnd(pin 25).
And my program is to blink the led for every one second but I cannot see the blinking.
Can anyone help in this regards

  • How to detect signals from serial or parallel ports?

    Hi everybody!
I'm developping a p.o.s. app, and I need to detect the printer status (serial or parallel), but I couldn't find the way to do it (I'm using Text_IO). I know about using a C program, but I want to find a simpler way.
Is there any command or trigger in Forms 6?
    Thank you for your help

    Hi
In your setup you have a ADAM 4250 RS232/485 repeater talking with 7 instruments in a network. Each instrument have a unique address, and you can only address 1 instrument at a time. If you need more speed you have to insert more ADAM 4250 units in your system and more RS232 ports on the PC. Identical ADAM instruments may receive commands over the same communication line, but transmit data on a unique communication line. You can not use the parallel port in your setup at all. This is not a Labview problem but a hardware problem. If speed is critical maybe the Ethernet I/O Modules: ADAM-6000 series are better for your setup
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

  • Is there a docking station for the HP Compaq 625 with serial and parallel ports?

    Hi
I am looking for a docking station with at least 4 USB ports plus serial and parallel ports for the HP Compaq 625 running Windows 7.
If not, what are the cheapest laptops for which I could find such a docking station?
    Thanks
    soVision

The TravelSound ZEN X-fi looks like is might work, but it says nothing that it will. If it works I will buy it in second.
Look carefully to Creative's documentation for this docking station. It is not compatible with the X-Fi2 or X-Fi Style.

  • How can I write to the parallel port using LabVIEW 6.0.2

I have tried updating the labview.ini file and also using the parallel.llb available on the site. When I execute the program it gives me error 37 saying,"device not found". I am running this code on windows 98. I tried to use VISA write, serial port write (using port 10) but nothing seems to work. I also tried to develop a sample code using inPort and outPort, but no success, it is not able to read the data back from the parallel port, even if it seems (????i don't know any way to cross-check it though????) to write.
Does anybody know the problem here?
    THanks.
    Pari.

    Thanks Brian.
Well here is the next problem. I got a VI (attatched) off ni.com and it works fine on a windows98 platform. But quits working on NT.
I can write perfectly (which i checked by hooking an LED display unit at the other end of the parallel port cable). I observed that the LEDs respond to the toggling of individual bits (data bits). But the error occures at the "out port.vi", when I try to run it on a NT machine (where I actually wanna use it). Are you aware of any changes to be made in order to run a VI on NT that works on 98?
    Thanks again.

  • How can i us the parallel port of the printer to control a frequenz-generator?

    Hello all !
I like to  control with LabVIEW 8 student-version, the Frequenz-generator gadget . For this challenge i like to us the parallel port of the printer. I need for data flow only 2 cable. The frequenz-generator gadget need two signal : Low and High. How  can i  us the parallel port of the printer to control a frequenz-generator gadget? I have us  the VIs-Visa  (Visa-Serial, write, Close ), but i dont no what command i have to write on the Visa-Write so that the Signal can be in the low or high position.
    Thanks

    Hi Jeanjac,
    first, look here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_port
to get the port numbering. also, be sure not to leave pin unconected, sometimes you might get an error message otherwise (i remember pin11 has to be always connected or so for windows...)
second, just run the test panel in MAX and write something to your device to check if it works.
then in LV, you have to decide to which pin is connected your instrument. in any case you have to address all 8 output pins together! this is a parallel...
if you prefere to use only one pin, then you can use the serial port, with just pin 2 and 3 connected. it would work easier for you, since you address only one bit.

  • Parallel Port (Mac OS 9)?

I am putting together an electronic circuit for controlling a stepper motor. The board includes an option for a parallel port as typically found on older PCs.
Is there a product available that would give me a parallel port on my G4 tower that I could then program? I am familiar with writing Firewire and older serial port drivers and feel comfortable writing code. All I need is the hardware and an associated software library for accessing the port.
Please note that I am using Mac OS 9.2.2. I have no tools or desire to write for X.

Hi Gary, look for an old USB to Parallel adapter that's Mac compatible.

    Michael,
So using an true ASCII printer or dircetly /dev/lpx is the easiest
solution. Just "print" the ASCII charakter representing the bits to
    set.

  • Parallel Port & Printing

    Hi,
I am new to ArchLinux and have been using Gentoo since qutie a while. After installing nearly everything I need I am now struggling with the printer setup. I guess this is due to a problem with my parallel port, cause it does not show up in the selection box of cups. I can choose serial and usb ports, but no parallel ports. I have installed some modules like
    lp & parport
I also have cups running of course and it connects. My question is the kernel (2.6.4) must be compiled with support for the parallel port by default, right? At least after loading these modules it should work. What am I missing?
    Thanks already!!!

Good advice!  Haven't solved it yet, but FWIW I can read the cups documentation.  So I set the log to debug mode and here it is:

  • Parallel Port & USB Connections

I have several older Macs & a Windows PC, all connected to an Apple 16/600PS laser printer. The arrangement has worked fine and minimized duplicating hardware. I'm thinking of upgrading the PC, but all newer models do NOT have parallel port connections -- only USB ports.
How does one deal with these changes in connectivity? Is there a way to connect parallel to USB?
    Thanks.

Windows PC   Windows 2000   Apple 16/600PS Laser Printer

Also, you did not indicate whether your other Macs
are simply old and using AppleTalk-over-Ethernet to
the printer, or really, really old and using
LocalTalk from the serial printer ports..
    Grant,
Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, the Macs are pretty old (a Quadra and a PPC), but the LocalTalk network does just fine. My connectivity issue would be with any new PC, and Ethernet connectivity is certainly one option. Another is to buy a fairly cheap port replicator for a new laptop that gives one parallel port connectivity. One piece of new HW, no SW or driver changes to make -- that might be a more simple solution to the problem.
    Again, my thanks.

  • 8200 elite Parallel port not run

    Hi to all,
On my elite8200 I can not run the LPT port on my windows7 64bit port with the address but F0E0 wrong with the management software for a CNC machine.
In the bios (updated) I can only edit the IRQ of the serial port (it looks like prunes A) For the parallel port can only choose between Standard ECC + ESP etc..
    Does anyone know help me?
    thank you very much

Perhaps a more complete model number would help.  In looking with that  limited model number there are several listed, even an AIO unit.  In the models such as the small form factor model, there is no parallel port ( which is normally  LPT ) shown.  What actual output port is being addressed as the LPT?
