Rdc questions

Hope this is in the right-ish place here...
I need to access a pc routinely, which is here in my office as well as the mac. The way which is most convenient is to rdc into it. This works well enough, but I have a couple of frustrating issues when working this way which spoil the experience for me, and which I'd like to ask about.
1. Minor issue first: the window which opens when the rdc connection is made always needs resizing (only by a small amount) in order to bring it to its max available size. (Even when resized to maximum, it fills less than two-thirds of my desktop.) Is it possible to set the size of the window which opens - to its max available?
2. The major problem, which is in danger of becoming a dealbreaker for me, is this: natively, the pc is running at 1650x1050. But when I check the resolution of the pc in the rdc window, it shows 1024x768 and can't be changed there. This means that not only do I have a smaller rdc window than I'd like, (because it fills just over half of my desktop), but that also there is lots of scrolling around required within that window, in order to see everything I need. Natively, the pc shows all the information I need to see, in one window - but in the mac via rdc it feels very much more awkward and frustrating.
I'm wondering if there are any obvious tricks I'm missing, to control these resolution and window sizing issues. Those descriptions of rdc making it seem 'just as if you're sitting in front of the other machine' aren't quite hitting the spot for me...
Thanks for being here.

I assume you are using the "Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection" software. If that is the case, you will have to take up those questions with Microsoft.
However, you might also try CoRD (Microsoft RDC Screen Sharing)
<http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22770/cord>
This is an open source RDC client.
Another option might be to install a VNC server on your Windows system and then attach using a VNC client from your Mac. This is NOT as good as RDC, but still an option.
When I've used RDC to a Windows PC, I've been able to use the Windows control panel to resize my virtual screen size, but I get the impression that this is not an option for you. Are you the Admin when you login via RDC?
While I do access Windows systems via RDC and VNC, I really do not mess with the configuration and setup very much, so I'm not sure of all the Windows things you can try.

  • Converting RDC to RAS Question

Using RDC we could get/set the group using the following:
         Dim oArea As CRAXDRT.Area
         Set oArea = oAreas("GH1")
         oArea.GroupConditionField = moCrystalAppReport.Database.Tables.Item(iTable).Fields.Item(iColumn)
         oArea.SortDirection = iSortDirection
    question:
How do I get the group associated with a given area using RAS? i.e. Group Header 1

I don't know if that is possible or not.  You can get the group information, but I don't know if you can tie that grouping to a specific section.
You could take a look at the report modification samples available [here|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/NETRASSDK+Samples#NETRASSDKSamples-ReportModification].  They might be helpful in finding a way to do what you want.

  • Extremely slow performance in comparison to RDC-based report

Today our application uses the Crystal Reports RDC. In the last
ten years we have made good experience with Crystal Reports.
In the next few months we want to migrate our application to
    JAVA.
Because the reports offer a great reuse-potential, we would like
    to implement them via CR4E.
But during the first benchmark tests we made a very bad experience.
Running (Printing) in CR4E the reports needed from 20 up to 480 percent
more time in comparison to the RDC-based reports.
When using POJOs need from 25 up to 570 percent more time.
When printing the reports from within the CR2008 designer there is
    no performance difference.
The reports have from 4 to 82 pages.
We didn´t expect such a huge performance difference.
Is CR4E in general slower than the RDC-based Crystal Reports?
Or are there any parameters in CR4E in addition to the RDC-based
    solution for tuning the reports?
Edited by: Rainer Graedtke on Nov 9, 2009 2:44 PM

    Hi Ted,
    thanks for the fast response.
Is there another "datasource option" with better performance than POJO?
In the upcoming JAVA-version of our application we would like to "feed"
our reports from memory, not from the underlying database.
One more statement concerning our performance problem:
In our reports we make extensive use of subreports.
Each report has the minimum of two subreports, one for the pageheader,
    one for the pagefooter.
This is necessary because we have changing headers and footers
depending on the contents of the details.
The report with the largest performance loss contains 29 subreports!
RDC-based it prints in 10 seconds, Java-based we need over 50 seconds.
Is there any suggestion how to improve the performance of our reports in
JAVA/CR4E other than reducing the number of subreports?
    Another question concerning the keycode-problem:
We have designed the reports in the CR2008 Designer and we want to run
them under CR4E. Is this a valid approach?
    Sincerely Rainer

    Dear Amit,
Sorry, but I think I'm still not expressing appropriately. Let me try  once again.
OK, I know that CR2008 does not support RDC. Actually we are planning to migrate to CR2008 using the new NET libraries.
However, we have tested CR9.0(RDC) in Vista and we find that it works OK so far. My question is: is CR9.0 (RDC) "officially" working in Vista? Shall we find any compatibility problem for some Vista installation?
What I would like to know is whether our current software, that still uses CR9.0(RDC), shall work fine on any Vista platform or not.
Hope that I had expressed better this time !!

  • Remote desktop connection unable to start, window stalls when opens RDC, any tips

remote desktop connection does not open, when rdc starts it stalls and can not press any button.
any ideas on how to fix?

Since this question is about a Microsoft product, you might have more luck getting suggestions if you ask in Microsoft's own forums. This forum is for Apple Remote Desktop issues and questions and so probably not the place where you'll be most likely to get assistance with this problem.
    Good luck.

  • Upgrading RDC from 8.5 to 11 (or 12)

I have a VB6 application that utilizes the RDC to generate a large report with perhaps 80 subreports. Here are my questions about upgrading to VB.NET and Crystal Reports version 11 or 12:
    1. How easy is the conversion process? Does Crystal pretty much take care of the whole thing, including all the subreports?
    2. I read somewhere that Crystal was not supporting the RDC in newer versions of Crystal. Is this true? If so, does that mean I will have to rewrite the reports using another method?
    3. One of the things my clients request most is the ability to shuffle the order of the subreports at runtime. Is this possible using the RDC in the newer versions?
    4. What other bonuses can I expect in the RDC upgrading from 8.5 to 11 or 12?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Software migration questions- from Crystal 9 or 11 to CR4E

Hello, this is my first post here.
I'm a system's analyst and I have been working with crystal reports since 2003. My company's product has a report module and basically its architecture is based on jsp, java, asp and crystal reports ( we have over 200 reports ).
My first big task related to that architeture was making it able to support crystal XI as well, I was able to do it in about 1 week.
Yesterday I started designing a project in order to eliminate dictionary labels in .mdb files, and putting them on .properties files or direct in database. Looking for some ideas on how to do it, I was able to find out cr4e version.
I already downloaded it, installed and imported some reports into it, and it worked great.
Now, taking a closer look at this new version of crystal reports I was wondering if I could put it into my project. The main idea is to elimante the asp pages, odbc connections and those label dictionaries I have in mdb format.
My first question is: which libraries should I carry to my existing application?
I mean, I already have a application done and I don't want to start a new one, I just want to add to my application the libraries that I really need to  make it works.
The second question: Am I able to do such things as I did on ASP pages using JSP with those libraries? For example, I used to replace labels within a report just by making connections on asp, running through the report sessions and replacing its labels depending on user's language.
Hopefully, If I could do it I'b be able to make the application's performance better.
Well, if someone is able to answer those questions I'd able to continue my project and then migrate to this new version and see how it goes.
    Thank you very much.
    Paulo.

Since you were using ASP pages to modify Crystal Report 9, I'm assuming you were using the Report Designer Component (RDC) SDK.  The RDC has report creation/modification that allows one to alter text objects within the report before refreshing it.
Crystal Reports for Eclipse currently doesn't have report creation/modification capabilities - they're there (it uses a version of the Report Application Server SDK), but not currently tested for public developer use.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Using Captivate with the Active Learner (RDC) LMS

    Hi
I am using Captivate 3 with the Active Learner LMS (supplied
    by RDC).
I have enabled reporting for the project and chosen AICC for
the LMS option (there are quite a few quiz pages throughout the
    project).
When the module is run via Active Learner, pop-up windows
start appearing and it asks the question 'Do you want to open or
    save the file LOAICCCommunicator.asp'?
    Also, this error message appears?
    ‘error=3 error_text=Invalid Session version=3.5
    aicc_data=’
Has anyone had a similar experience with Active Learner or
    other LMS?
    Thanks in advance.
    Happy New Year!
    Kind Regards
    John

I can't find any information on this LMS. Even RDC's site
    seems to not
    mention it:
    http://www.resources4learning.com
Is it still supported? Maybe time to move on to a new LMS!
The file it's asking about has an .asp extension. Is the LMS
    running on
a web server that can handle ASP pages (i.e. IIS properly
    setup)? If the
webserver can't process ASP pages, then I could see why the
    LMS is
asking what you want to do with the file...
Here's a post on the AICC site that has some relation, at
    least as far
as AICC problems go - perhaps there's something there that
    will help

Here's another post with a somewhat similar issue - no
    resolution or
replies, but something to back up what you're seeing,
    perhaps...

  • Upgrade to a newer veresion questions of Crystal Reports

We currently have crystal reports 7 and we are having issues linking to databases on a new computer, so I have been thinking about upgrading.  I have someone here telling me it was a big deal last time they upgraded.  My question is what do I have to expect to get our Crystal Reports created in version 7 to funcition correctly in the newest version which is 12, I think.  Will they automatically convert right over, or is there going to be someone work invovled in remapping, and moving things around???

    Hi Lindsey,
I've gone from 8 to 2008 with almost no problems.  About 90% of my reports worked fine and some were very intensive reports.
The few that needed work were ones that were designed to print on pre-printed forms.  So I did have to move things around to fit on the form again for those.  I also had 1 report that used a UFL I created.  I had to make changes to the function in Visual Basic but again that was pretty minor.
I also had some custom programs using the Crystal RDC that needed to be upgraded as well.  Again, nothing major but some refrerences were changed.
I would recommend making a copy of all your reports, download the trial version of Crystal 2008 and give it a try on a few reports.  Most should work out of the box.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Unable to establish Remote Desktop Connection (RDC)

    Hi all,
I had activated my account for Instance of SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 SP5 incl. SAP Business Objects BI 4.1 SP2 on SAP HANA 1.0 SP7 but while trying to connect using remote desktop connection, I am unable to connect. Its throwing up the error, "Remote desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons". The screen shot of the error message is attached to this post.
I am trying to connect to the servers 54.204.35.135 (SAP Frontend) and 54.225.249.36 (SAP Server). Both of them I am getting the same message.
After I activate the instance on CAL, I see that on Amazon Cloud these instances are automatically started. Then I go to elastic IP and hit on associate these IPs to associate them.
Please let me know if I need to do anything else.I am using a company laptop and am afraid if these IP addresses are being blocked somewhere.
Please advise how to establilsh the RDC.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Pavan.

    Hi Pavan,
the following comment in your initial question draw my attention:
After I activate the instance on CAL, I see that on Amazon Cloud these instances are automatically started. Then I go to elastic IP and hit on associate these IPs to associate them.
So you started the solution (that contains 2 images) in CAL and then changed some configuration settings in the EC2 web console, correct?
It is important to understand, that changes to the configuration of the instances, that are made outside of CAL will have a severe impact. Only CAL knows how to configure both instances correctly, especially when it comes to the network and communication between each other.
If you don't mind, would you be able to shutdown and terminate all running instances of this Trial solution in CAL and start from scratch without using the EC2 web console. We have throusands of users of this system and all of them get the same software - all works. I suspect the changes in the EC2 console to be a culprit here.
All these activities should be done in CAL, not in the EC2 console:
So please terminate all instances of this solution and wait until they are completely removed.
Then go to the Solution tab and click on create instance
go through the guided procedure and pay attention on the firewall / port settings in step 3
finish and wait 30 minutes until the solution is fully started
    try to connect.
Please let us know the result.
    Regards,
      Hannes

  • Install  Question CR 8.5 and XI on same PC ?

    Hello All,
I have what I think is a easy question, but i cant seem to find an answer anywhere.
    I have 1 PC. (XP)
I develop software using VB6 along with CR 8.5
I have VS 2008 on my PC but i want to use CR XI
I installed CR XI and found that my VB6 App and my 8.5 reports werent working.
Can I have CR 8.5 and XI on the same PC without cause conflicts?
i.e. When i installed XI, even though my VB6 app references the 8.5 DLLs when i goto same my RPT it makes it via the XI DLL hence causing errors, b/c my CRviewer in my VB6 is for 8.5
What are my Options? Id like not have to upgrade my VB6 app to CR XI at this point.
    Thank you in advance.

Only if your projects use the DSRs. If you are loading the report from path, you are just fine. BTW., there are changes to runtime deployment. You can not use the VB Deployment and Packaging Wizard anymore. You must use the RDC merge modules. These can be downloaded from here:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006255302008E/crxir2sp3_rdc_mm.zip
Also, seeing as you are upgrading from CR 8.5, there have been significant changes to the database engine and the following should be kept in mind:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/00635998-751e-2b10-9cba-f50ee1e4ef81
And finally, CR XI r2, is the last version of CR to include the RDC. The RDC has been retired in CR 2008, which is the currently shipping version of CR. This may have implications for you re. lifetime of the app, etc (Just an FYI). More info re the RDC is here:

  • Server upgrade newbie questions

    Hi Everyone!
So I work for a small-ish nonprofit and as I am researching information on what my to-be system is, I am running into a lot of questions.  I have tried google-ing them with not much success.  So I am hoping that all of your expertise might help
drive me in the right direction.
Mind you, I have only been with our organization for about 2.5 weeks, and it is all over the place.
Right now, we have approximately 90 PCs, both desktops and laptops, distributed around 12 counties.  ~50% of these PCs are utilized by our staff, while the others are used by the general public for internet and document editing.  We also have ~
30 smartphones that I need to manage at some level.  I would also mention that we have PCs with XP, Win7, Vista, and Windows 8 (these PCs were all purchased by different people at different times, or donated to our organization).  We are currently
transitioning to google mail, so I was also planning to use the google apps extension to integrate with AD.  Right now, our local "headquarters" is where our servers are located, and the person who set our server up had installed SBS 2011.  There
has been a domain setup, and all but one of the local PCs were added to it (minus the Win8 machine due to SBS limitations).
Because I am new to this, and the situation is a bit complicated (as you can see from above), I was really impressed with Server 2012 R2 because of some of the capabilities of it.  The primary functions of the server are to provide a way for me to manage
all of the users (even the distributed ones), the PCs, and the devices (phones).  The way that I understood this, is that DirectAccess could allow me to provide help desk support (I am the only IT person in our organization so I am wearing multiple hats),
removing the programs that were utilized by my predecessors (i.e. logmein).  I am hoping that with them all added to the domain, I would also be able to ensure that they were being updated properly on a schedule.  We also have multiple different
anti-virus softwares that have been deployed at different times on different OSs.  I was hoping to be able to standardize this and be able to manage that as well.
    So....the questions....
Because we are a nonprofit, we are members of techsoup and can get the software cheap enough, but I don't really understand the licensing, particularly the Remote desktop services CALs.  How does this service differ from what I currently understand
as RDC.  Do I need to get one of these CALs to be able to provide remote support to users/PCs?
How do I properly assess the software?  Because I have never performed a server upgrade, or really messed with Server other than seeing the SBS console and being able to muddle through it easy enough, an I going to have issues when upgrading from SBS
2011 (backing up and redeployment)?  The current Hardware is going to be on the low end of the min. sys. requirements.  Is this going to be a huge issue considering the size of our organization?
Am I even on the right track?
My hope is to create a semi one time investment (for at least the next few years) so that the focus can be turned towards upgrading field equipment.
I would appreciate everyones thoughts and help (as I mentioned in the title, I am a newbie at server stuff).
    Thanks in advance!

"Because we are a nonprofit, we are members of techsoup and can get the software cheap enough, but I don't really understand the licensing, particularly the Remote desktop services CALs.  How does this service differ from what I currently understand
as RDC.  Do I need to get one of these CALs to be able to provide remote support to users/PCs?"
Your absolute best source of licensing information and clarification is to speak with a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.  You can find one by starting your search at
    www.microsoft.com/licensing.
Are all these devices owned by your organization?  If so, dump XP as quickly as possible.  You also might want to check into Office 365 instead of google apps, unless you like the fact that google reads everything you do.  The combination
of Office 365 and Windows Intune might seem like a lot of money up front, but when you consider the significant amount of management time that is simply eliminated by them, they can be quite cost-effective.
It's pretty hard to 'assess' the software without any knowledge of applications needed, usage patterns, vendors, etc.  If you do not feel comfortable performing the function yourself, find a reputable local consultant to come in and assist.

  • F Keys using rdc

I use the remote desktop connection software a lot and I was wondering if there was anyway to have the F1-f12 keys pass though. For example if I try to hit F1, which is help in windows the monitor brightness changes. Some keys work if I hit the Function Key combination but this does not work for F7 - F12. Is there anyway to change these keys to pass in the correct key code?

Since RDC is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to post your question on Microsoft's own Mac discussions. Be sure to search the forums first as your question may have been asked and answered already.

Hi, I have integrated in our soft, the Crystal report RDC,ActiveX  viewer and ActiveX designer. On my computer all works fine. But on one of my test computer, the viewer and the Designer don't works fine. The activeX are not displayed (I have a blank windows).
I have installed Crystal reports XI release 2 developer on my test computers, but some computers work fine and other don't work. I have the same result with the deployment of the free RDC.
I have try to display the activeX viewer with TSTCON32.exe (activeX test container), the viewer is displayed correctly. After many tests on one of my computer test , the viewer and designer got to work but I have change nothing on the computer. On this computer the bug doesn't appear again. but on other I have still the issue.
It seems there is a bad installation or initialization of the activeX at the first call.
    Any idea ?

    Hi Pat,
For English thread there is another forum as below for your question.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/forums
Just click "Business Objects SDK Application Development" and then click ".NET Development - Crystal Reports"
It should be more profesional for SDK questions.
    Hope it helps.

  • IPad / RDC 8.1.5 to Server w/RDS Gateway Unsuccessful

    Hello,
I'm getting a message stating the following:
"We couldn't connect to the remote PC.  Make sure the PC is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled.  If this keeps happening, ask your admin or tech support for help."
    A few things:
    1) I am connected to the internet & I'm outside of the corporate LAN
    2) Regular RDP connections from my Windows PC works
    3) The server uses an RDC gateway and this is setup on the iPad
    4) I've triple checked my settings to no avail.
    Anyone else having this issue?

    hso04,
    Few questions :
    You said
"Regular RDP connections from my Windows PC works" , so is your Windows PC from where you are able to connect inside the Corporate LAN network or is it outside the network ?
    - I'm outside of the LAN.
Also , does your RDP work from a PC when you are  connected
to the internet & I'm outside of the corporate LAN ?
    - Yes, I can RDP from my Windows 7 machine from outside the LAN.
Can you make sure that the resource that you are trying to access is available on the Internet and is not
restricted to the Corporate LAN ?
    - It is available - other people can connect fine as well but not via iOS devices.
