RDP no longer works - Can telnet with 3389

We have a member server that needed to be renamed.  Prior to this, the server could be connected to (as could all other servers) via RDP.  After the rename however, an RDP session cannot be made.  I've successfully been able to telnet to it
from a machine on the LAN and from an outside machine on port 3389, but can't make connections.  Also, it seems that the connection begins as the RDP client says 'configuring...' then it just disconnects.
The server is Windows Server 2012 Standard and it has all Windows Updates installed.

Is this a Remote Desktop Session Host?
I would try sfc /scannow to see if any system files are corrupted.
This can also happen if your user profile is corupted.  Delete you user profile on the server.  Hee's how.
Press Windows
Key + r to
open the Run window
then type sysdm.cpl. In the System Properties screen, click the Advanced tab and choose the middle Settings button to open your User Profile settings. Select the profile and click Delete.  The account cannot be logged on when you attempt to
delete it.
This can occur if your default profile is corrupted. You could rename the hidden folder c:\Users\DEFAULT and copy  it from a working server.
Do you see any errors in the Application log on the server?
HTH,
Jeremy

  • I updated my Firefox to 5.0 and now my Kaspersky Password plug-in no longer works. Spoke with them and they do not have a compatible update yet, so I want to go back to Firefox 4.0. How do I do that?

I love the Kaspersky Pure Password program and us it constantly! After updating my Firefox browser from 4.0 to 5.0... I found that the plug-in for my password program no longer worked!
I emailed them and they do not have an update yet that is compatible with Firefox 5.0....
So I need to go back to 4.0 till Kaspersky has an update because I am lost without my password program!
    Please help me.

Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended. Firefox 3.6.18 would be the safer choice.
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 5.
You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

  • Links no longer working in PDF with Pages 5

I have links in my Pages 5 document that work in Pages but no longer work in the PDF. They did when this was a Pages 09 file. In Pages 5 I can edit the, test them and everything is fine. Links are useless unless they can be part of the final deocument. Does anyone else have this issue and a work around? I am on Mavericks.

This is just one of over 90 features Apple has removed from Pages 5.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

I am a photographer and I find it VERY convenient to be able to use my Trackpad to PINCH resize icons of photos for quick review. This no longer works in LION. This needs to be restored or can someone tell me how to restore the setting. Thanks

Not the same symptoms, but I noticed that after a few days of running great, odd things started happening on my iMac. The first thing was that when I would boot the Mac up for the first time in the morning, it would boot into single user mode. I have the Apple Bluetooth keyboard, so I know there's no way keys are being held down.
The other symptom was that Microsoft Outlook 2011 would hang on launch. It would get stuck on the "Setting Up Identities..." phase. Rebuilding the Outlook database would help until the next time I shut the iMac down.
Also a couple of times it got to the Desktop after a boot, but not everything was working correctly and some startup items didn't load.
The iMac also kept booting into single user mode on the first boot.
I tried reinstalling Mountain Lion, and I thought that fixed both problems, until the next morning. Now I just don't shut the Mac down. I can close Outlook, and it launches in a couple of seconds.
So it would appear that something is becoming corrupt when OS X is shut down. If I don't shut it down, it's fine.

  • My dashboard no longer works, can anyone help?

I dont have a clue what ive done but my dashboard no longer works.
it will open, i.e screen goes greyish colour, but there are no widgets on the screen and even when i try to put them on it closes automatically.
ive had a look in the forums and some people say that its the parental controlls, now i did have them on but ive turn it completely off now so why is it still not working?
    help please.

Standard mac advice since probably system 4 or 6: whenever there's a problem, first thing is throw out the preferences. Try tossing the dashboard.plist in your library.

  • RDP no longer working

    We have a few people in the office running SP3 and this morning they were no longer able to RDP into remote systems. They would get the following error;
"The Pre-release version of Remote Desktop Connection has expired. To download the full version of Remote Desktop Connection, go to Windows Update or contact your system administrator"
I've seen nothing on this forum abotu it yet, though there is talk of it on some other forums. It apears to be a problem with SP3 and it only apeared over the weekend, RDP worked fine last week. We've fixed it buy copying the RDP files from an SP2 machine into a new folder (Not System32) and runningit from there. So if it is happenign to you, that is a fix (as is rolling back the date on your system clock I've heard) Mainly I wanted MS to know about this so they can fix it.

    Evening A.
This is a simple process of removing v3264.
Remember to write down any setting you need for any network routers.
Start by booting to safe mode. This is done by restartibng the system. Pressing the F-8 key prior to the splash screen.  Once in safe mode. Pressing start, control panel, add/remove programs, then finding the sp3 icon. Click on remove. Remember to shut down any antivirus programs!
Once the system has completely removed the SP3 and restored your SP2. The fun stuff begins
All the things you required to install the sp3 are required again. Since the SP2 recreated your system from .inf And not just copied everything over from your back up. *This is normal behavior* This allows for programs installed during usage of SP3 to be used. beware this may not always be reliable. *Only has problems ocassionally* Some programs may need re-installation.
Any steps you needed to get SP3 installed may need to be re-applied. The reset.cmd/subac program may need to be ran, the additon to the registry for adding sp3 to enable download. To make things more re-liable for me I install the 2.5 B.I.T. program. This is because it will download in the background and does not stall on slower internet connections * no dial up bit slower DSL connections.
The registry fix to proect certain I.E. errors also needs to be ran, This fix is to prevent internet explorer needs to be added. *I.E. 6,7,8*
For various I.E. issues there is this post located here.
    http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase3.html
Covers everything from Sp2, Sp3 and Vista I.E. issues
After rebooting you can then run the windows update and install the latest version of v5503 from windowsupdate
At this point you can restore the RDP functionality you are requesting.
Good luck and post back please what works out for you

  • Since downloading Firefox 5.0, my CD drive no longer works can you tell me why? why ?

The drive is listed in my computer but I can't open it. The Auto Play function doesn't open it when a disk is inserted.
When I look in the control panel/device manager and click on the
listed device it tells me that the device is working properly. I can't read or write to it however. I have a Dell computer with a SONY DV+-RW Aw -Q160s SCSi CdRom Device. Running Windows Vista

It seems your Mozilla installation is broken. Try the following steps to fully uninstall Mozilla Firefox:
    1. Uninstall Firefox as you would normally do.
    2. Open a command prompt as administrator.
    3. By using the cd and rd command, remove Firefox AppData and Roaming folders, for example:
    C:\Users\USERNAME> cd AppData
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData> cd Local
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local> cd Mozilla
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla> rd /s Firefox
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla\*.* - Are you sure? (y/n) y
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla> cd ..
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local> cd ..
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\> cd Roaming
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming> cd Mozilla
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla> rd /s Firefox
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\*.* - Are you sure (y/n) y
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla > exit
Remember to press Enter each time.
    4. After that, open a hard disk clean-up tool (such as CCleaner or Windows built-in) and remove all temporary files from your computer.
    5. Restart your computer. Download '''again''' the Firefox package from [http://www.mozilla.org/es-ES/download/?product=firefox-14.0.1&os=win&lang=es-ES Mozilla official servers] and try to install Firefox. If the problem persists maybe your computer has a problem or is infected with viruses.
About the Scrapbook add-on, I could get it to work. It has no icon when docked to the toolbar, but you can anyway open it. Right-click a button on the toolbar, click Customize... find the Scrapbook icon, drag it to the bookmarks bar so you can see the icon and click on it to open it. Whenever you need to save a page, right-click that page and choose Save page.

  • After updating Firefox to version 16.0.1, it no longer works in conjunction with "Proxifier"...

    Hi,
I'm using Firefox on Windows XP professional x64 SP2.
I also use a program called "Proxifier" which directs all traffic from my computer to the Internet and vice versa through a proxy server and does the name resolution through proxy DNS not system DNS. Before updating my Firefox to v. 16.0.1, everything was working fine: Firefox connections were made through "Proxifier" and all the connections made by Firefox were shown in Proxifier's window.
But after updating Firefox, traffic from Firefox does not pass through Proxifier and in other words Firefox opens websites if I disable Proxifier. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH Internet Explorer which works fine and its traffic is directed through Proxifier as usual.
I did an extensive search through Google for a solution, and most relevant results suggest that it may have something to do with messed up LSP_CATEGORIES:
    link: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621320
    and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636088
Anyway, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and Proxifier, resetting Firefox, resetting winsocks catalog (netsh int ip reset - netsh winsock reset) several times and tried the relevant suggestions in this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-problems-connecting-websites-after-updating?esab=a&as=aaq
Also tried installing previous versions of Firefox such as v. 13 or 3.6.28 but the problem exists with these versions as well.
Unfortunately nothing has worked so far. I'm really puzzled since Internet Explorer is working fine with Proxifier and this problem with Firefox appeared only after updating it.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Regards

hello, you probably have to set-up firefox to use a proxy to connect to the web: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/settings-network-updates-and-encryption#w_network-tab

  • I used to be able to upload pictures to my photobucket account, that no longer works, can I go back to the old version of Firefox, or will this be fixed?

the add on is still available on photobucket, but not for 4.0, it means having to download, then upload, will the feature be redone so that it works with the new version?

Hello, the Photobucket plugin was not developed by Mozilla, the creator of the plugin is mattyk++ as you can see here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-uploader/
He needs to update the plugin in order to work with Firefox 4.0

  • Screen Sharing no longer works for me with Lion

I use screen sharing all the time, I have several Macs.  Ever since I loaded Lion (on all systems) it opens screen sharing, asks for my username and password and loads the screen; I see the screen(s) for about a second then it prompts me again with my login to gain access.  It repeats this over and over with my login.
Anybody know what can be done to correct this issue?

This is an issue I have encountered too. Mac to Mac on Lion its sporadic at best - even when you do get in, you will get a strange jerky beachball on the host computer whilst everything appears to be working fine.
Windows to Lion its seriously borked, and you can't even click on an account to log in. Its something to do with ZRLE encoding of the session, and the fact its the first multi session VNC attempt. It rejects the connection unless its 101% happy with it.
Mountain Lion makes this a bit easier...I think they glossed over this in Lion and released a new one instead.
So whilst its not a solution, more of a workaround - your best bet is to upgrade to ML. By all means try making a freshh account on the host computer that matches the client compuer, and see if that authenticates properly. It should do.
Cheaper option: turn screen sharing off, use Vine as your VNC server instead (http://www.testplant.com/products/vine/). You can even do multi session if you want to tinker with some settings and read the forums.
Please mark as solved if this helped you. Thanks!

  • IOS 7.1 update problem. Wifi disabled, no longer works. Disappointed with apple response

I have several IOS devices and updated each of them to Apple's release of IOS 7.1.
Unfortunately my iPhone 4s did not update successfully. It was affected by the widely reported issue regarding WiFi being disabled permanently. After the update to IOS 7.1, wifi is no longer an accessible option on the IPhone 4s.
After doing some online research and identifying this as a common problem, I tried some of the suggestions available online such as resetting settings and restoring from backup. None of these suggestions worked.
I brought the iPhone 4s to the apple store at the Rideau Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and spoke to one of the employees. He stated that it was not an apple issue and that it was a problem with my phone that would cost $200 to resolve. He said that it was not a problem related to the ios 7.1 update and that it was a "coincidence" that it happened at the same time as the update to ios 7. 1 and was probably an issue with the wifi chip.
It is surprising to me that applying an update recommended by apple and using the iPhone 4s in the manner in which it was designed (using wifi) would cause this basic function (wifi) to cease to function.
Wifi is an essential part of my day to day use of this device. I am appalled that apple is denying the problem and has no resolution for it.
If anyone else this problem, please go to your nearest apple store and let this forum know your experience in getting the issue resolved.

Somewhere in there, is there a question for us, your fellow users in these user to user support forums?

  • Character palette no longer works for me with Leopard

I need to use the Character Palette frequently in my work, but since going to 10.5 it is not working. Only the bottom part appears, starting with the "View" drop-down menu, and under that the large character on the left and the "Related" scroll box next to it. Therefore, I can't select any other characters from the categories that should be at the top of the CP (or were in 10.4), and I'm stuck with whatever happens to appear in the large character box. How can I get the whole CP back?

For some unknown reason the international data caches can get corrupted and prevent character palette and keyboard viewer to appear in the input tab of the international preference pane. This also prevent from working the special characters item in the edit menu of many applications, including the Finder, Safari and Text Edit.
If this happened to you, go to System/Library/Caches folder and trash the following files (don't worry, they will be re-created when you restart your Mac):
    com.apple.IntlDataCache.le
    com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.kbdx
    com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.sbdl
    com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.tecx
As you are attempting to cancel files from System folder, you will be asked for an administrator ID and password.
If you don't have an administrator ID and password, ask the system manager in your office.
After you insert an administrator ID and password, the files will be trashed.
    Restart your Mac.
Open System Prefererences (in the apple menu, or inside the main Applications folder), open the International pane, and click the input menu. You will find again the character palette and keyboard viewer items with their chechboxes.
Click the two checkboxes. Be sure to click also at the bottom of the pane the checkbox labeled show the keyboard menu in the menu bar.
    Exit System Preferences.
In the right side of the menu bar you will find a menulet with your nation's flag. Click the flag and you will find both character palette and keyboard viewer.
Also, the special characters item in the edit menu of the applications that have this item will work as expected, and will open the characters palette.
