RDS Mouse settings

Hi
I am testing RDS on Server 2012 R2. Everything is working fine, but I need to disable the setting "Enable pointer shadow" since it's making the mouse lag.
I have found the following blog, and the setting is working fine, but it's applied the second time the user logs in.
http://chireven.blogspot.dk/2013/09/jerky-stuttering-mouse-pointer-in-rdp.html
Isn't it possible to have this setting applied at first login?

Hi Lasse,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Yeah, you can try to edit the registry key as you have mentioned as it will disable the mouse shadow. There is one article for server 2008 R2 but you can refer for information.(Quoted from below article)
The GPO setting would be
•Key: HKCU\Software\Control Panel\Desktop
•Value Name: UserPreferencesMask
•Value Type: REB_Binary
•Value data: 9E1E078012000000 (This changes based on the options you enable/disable, this value disables mouse shadows only)
Optimize Windows 7 / 2008 R2 Visual Effects for Virtual Desktops (mouse shadow disable)
Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Also please backup the registry setting before making any changes to original,
as it's not receommended by Microsoft.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

  • Unable to change mouse settings in System Preferences

Using a standard wired USB Apple Mouse (oval shape with scrolling nib and squeeze option for the 4th button), the options in System Preferences seem to have no effect. Have tried configuring the secondary button (to emulate right click) and nothing happens. The 4th button used to function as "Mission Control" but now there is no effect. Is it possible the mouse hardware no longer works? It's less than a year old.
Some other information:  I recently reinstalled the iMac to make room for BootCamp and Windows 7. Could that process have soured to mouse settings? Right clicking (same mouse) works in Windows 7 so I doubted the hardware problem.
I've followed steps for removing HID plists and stuff from the Library/Preferences area, but no joy.  Is there some other troubleshooting I can perform to get this feature working again?  It *was* working before the reinstall, but now isn't.
BTW: I'm aware of the "<control>click" to get a right click going, but when you get used to using something and are very productive in that method it is difficult to just "change the way I'm doing it" so please help me to find the cause for this issue instead of teaching me new ways to do things.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • A suggestion for the mouse setting through persistence via SkyDrive/OneDrive: Add a check button to let the user tell if the mouse settings should be "restored" every time the user logs in a "different" computer using the same Microsoft Account.

Every time I log in one of my 2 computers with Microsoft Account, I have to change the main button (left/right) setting, because the settings persistence via SkyDrive/OneDrive.
I have different main mouse button settings in the computers.
Those settings shouldn't be changed, if the account is not a new one, after all, if the user has different settings in old accounts, it means there must be a reason to do it (because of hardware and/or furniture restriction).
Thus, a check button in the mouse settings' window that let the user tell if it should be changed or not would be welcomed.

  • Mouse settings are not being saved

I just did a clean install of Lion (10.7.5) on a new SSD in a mac pro 1,1 and am having problems with my mouse settings.  The settings are not being saved.  When I change any of the buttons, nothing changes.
It's not a hardware problem with the mouse.  If I boot up to my previous os drive, lion 10.7.5, the mouse settings are correct and function properly.

FOrgot to add, this is the basic wired mouse.  I've also tried the wireless bluetooth mighty mouse as well with the exact same results.
I've tried removing the plist files with no success

  • Dual Displays Getting Used To Mouse Settings

    Hi Gang
Just started using Dual Displays for Final Cut. Was wondering if anyone had some tips for maximizing mouse settings? Its taking some time getting used to.

Hi BD hope u had a nice Holiday.
I realized I needed to switch the DVI connectors, or switch the displays in order to get the cursor to go from left to right. It was a breeze.
I still can't believe Chris is gone. I'll have to email him and see how he's doing.

  • Why Mac Mini if started up with monitors switched off looses Mouse settings?

    Hi,
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini connected to 2x LG HD monitors (one with thunderbolt adapted to HDMI and one on HDMI).
Every morning I switch on the computer but sometimes I forget to switch on the monitors.
If the machine boots without monitors I get my mouse settings reset in a very strange way
    - Mouse speed is slower (I work at maximum speed)
    - Scroll is inverted but to NATURAL although the tickbox is not checked so I have to check and uncheck again
I know.. this may seem a stupid issue.. but is annoying no?

I suspect those Mouse settings may now be stored in the hidden...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences.<12digitHex#>. plist
File, but the location may even be changed in 10.9.x, I suspect if no monitor is detected, osx can't find a Monitor profile to match the zero monitors, & it must then use some default plost.

  • Keyboard and Mouse Settings Keep "resetting"

Ok so I set up my keyboard's F5 to be the Desktop View ( F11 the old way ) and squeezing my mighty mouse, I set to Expose... but every time I do that, it resets itself after like a day or so..
Anyone experience this? I have to go back in and check off the F5 option again, and I have to change my mouse from Button 4, to Expose.
    HELP!

I am having the same problem. I have my system preferences setup to synch with my .mac account. The mouse settings keep resetting on both computers I have synched.
The problem seems to have ramped up since the update to 10.5.3. It is now happening every synch.

  • Force to used command line mouse settings ?!?

Bravo for not including an option to disable mouse acceleration in the mouse settings. Had to used 2 command lines in the terminal.app to disable the so annoying and so not gaming friendly mouse acceleration... that thing is like dragging the mouse cursor in mud,
I dont know how mac users can stand it, I guess people get used to it. I am sure its great for paint/draw/... because the mouse slows a lot when you dont move fast, but its totally worthless and sluggish in games.
And Mac have better interface than windows right? I you want to convert people from the windows world to the mac world, put that setting in... different mouse movement is one of the first thing a windows user will notice when using a mac.

Here are the 2 command lines to disable mouse acceleration in case some people want to do it:
1 - Open application then utility folder.
2 - Select the terminal app
3 - type the following lines:
    defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1
    defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.trackpad.scaling -1
    4- Restart

  • CC programs freeze when mouse settings are changed to left hand use

    Hi everyone,
I have a little problem with several CC programs, when the mouse setting is changed to letf hand use for one user.
We are running Windows 7 x64 Professional and the latest version of Adobe CC 2014 of Photoshop and Illustrator.
When the user works with large files, the CC program (Photoshop in most cases, but e.g. Illustrator as well)  freezes, the only window that works then is the window of the file that is open at the moment. Windows of other files are not clickable . When the taskmanager is opened then the other windows become clickable again. But when the user clicks somewhere, for example on the desktop  a right click is a left click. that stops when a the left mouse button is clicked, than it works again.
The problem appears once or twice a day. When we change the mouse settings back to normal everything works fine.
I appreciate any hints and help
    Thanks,
    Andre

    I tested them all.
As I already mentioned above: I just don't use the Touch and Launch Tool. I prefer to use only the extended functions of the usual Toshiba driver (as the extended corner functionality or the Easy Launcher). I know that I can set the mouse speed there. (that's what I did) But I?m already at the maximum speed and moreover there?s no possibility to increase the mouse acceleration. That?s why I?d like to change this in the usual windows-settings window.
For the moment I placed a shortcut to the mouse settings in the autostart folder. So every time I start up, I can change the settings immediately. But of course this is no long-term solution.
By the way: My goal is to have as less tools and running software as possible on my computer, because I use it for music production and a really need all resources I can get!!

  • [SOLVED] Mouse settings in KDM

    Hello,
I have a fairly good mouse and I am used to keep it at a high sensitivity (3200 dpi) with no mouse acceleration. This works fine in KDE (or other DEs) as I can set up the acceleration manually. I haven't found a way to modify mouse settings used by KDM, though, so my mouse is impossibly fast due to the x2 default acceleration. Anyone knows how to modify this setting?
    Thanks!

I do my mouse tweaking with xinput settings through xorg, as in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mo … figuration
I suppose these settings kick in when X is started, so they probably work for KDM.

  • Mouse settings won't stick after on logging back in.

    Hi,
After I moved my Home folder to a second hard drive ( mac G5 , tiger), my mac simply refuses to remember the mouse settings.
Also, I can't get the RMB to act as the CTRL modifier to get contextual pop up menus (set as "secondary button" in prefs)
    Any ideas?
    cheers

You probably do not use CCleaner, but if you do, or if you use another "clean up" tool that runs at Windows launch or shutdown, make sure to create an exception for the Firefox Profiles folder.

  • Mistakenly selected the right click in mouse settings

my son mistakenly selected the right click in the "keyboard and mouse" settings under system preferences . that means my mouse is  virtually not usuable now  . it doesn't allow anything to clicked using mouse . only mouse works is just to have right click option . Is there way to fix this issue by navigating thru keyboard and change the option to left click from right click. i can reach to window where i see its showing the "right click" option selected but can't do anything to change . please help. othewise i have to re-install the O/S .
this is for Mac OS x .

i can reach to the Keyboad and Mouse Window by right clicking on the system preferences and the type the mouse and keyboard option but after that the tab does work to reach the left radio button.
i am thinking about re-installing as its look like its not that simple for me . just tell me a way to completly format it and reinstall the O/S .
    thanks for you answer.

  • Why are mouse settings defaulting after 'switch user'?

change mouse settings from default for user A
    switch to user B
    switch back to user A
changes to mouse settings have been wiped and the default mouse settings restored
What is causing this and how can I prevent it from happening?
I've tried various things with user A like logging off entirely, rebooting, even making other changes in the settings that require an admin password in the hope that this might force some sort of admin override

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
    Look for these two files.
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each  one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
    Restart the computer.

  • Why are my magic mouse settings reseted sporadically after a newstart

    Hallo,
sporadically after a newstart of my mac mini with mountainlion the mouse settings from my magic mouse are reseted.
So that I have to configure the cursorspeed and horizontal scroll direction again.
Is there anybody who has got an idea about that?
    Thx.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try deleting the mouse settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart.
Finally, change the mouse settings on System Preferences > Mouse, and check if they are saved
