Re: 2 two usb ports on left side of my hp pavilion g6 2230 is not working

Hi,
Is your notebook still in warranty?  Warranty status check webpage
If some ports work and others do not, then it is quite likely that the issue is hardware related. Replacing the system board would be required to resolve the issue. If the issue were operating system or driver related, then no usb ports would work.
As a workaround you can use a powered external usb hub.  If you use an unpowered hub then you are quite likely to kill another port. You must have used a usb device that drew more current (in µA).  The same thing happens to motherboards in PCs, so don't feel lonely.  You can see what I mean about the power limits of usb ports in the following image. Go into the device manager and check your usb ports power availability and power required.

Dear Sir,
I read your answer. You said that if one USB port is working, others should also work. Thus this could be hardware related problem.
Fortunately I have ubuntu also installed as second operating system.
The left usb ports are working on the Ubuntu system. Thus we can conclude that hardware is perfect.
Now with above reference, can you please guide on how can the left USB ports can also funtion?
Regards,
Rajeev

    Hi Luis Fernando Garcia,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has troubleshooting for keys not working on your keyboard:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1381
Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sureMouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, seeUnable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • Satellite E45t: The USB port on left side doesn't recognize anything.

I have had my laptop for well over a year now, and it works beautifully. (Almost)
The USB port on the LEFT side of my Satellite e45t-a4300 will not recognize anything I plug into it. I have been restricted to charging my phone with it because all it can do is output power.
I did some troubleshooting and found the error message details:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
I need to access all 3 of my ports now and it is very inconvienent that one is malfunctioning..
None of the windows troubleshooting options have helped fix the port. So my hands are tied here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, -Matthew

  • Ex-80gb PS3 hdd - in enclosure.. need two usb ports?

Have got a 'Omata Mobile HD' enclosure.
Have installed the 80gb formatted hitachi drive that was in my PS3 into it.
PLugged it into powerbook usb port... disc utility doesnt recognise it... read instructions again from Omata, all in pigeon english - just talks about windows install etc.. .google search later reveals that it needs two usb ports - one for power, one for data - is this true? Does this go for all enclosures?
i would need to then buy a usb extendor as the usb ports are on opposite sides of the pbg4.
Are there any enclosures that can run a 80gb off one usb port? It also has DC 5V/1A on the enclosure are these quite common?

Hi, Steve. Given the inconvenience of connecting a dual-USB "Y" cable to your Powerbook, the drawbacks of USB2 compared to FireWire for use with any Powerbook (USB is non-bootable on all PPC Macs and slower than FW 400, never mind FW 800), and the very low cost of your Omata enclosure, I recommend simply replacing it with a FW enclosure. Save the Omata one for use with your next Mac, which will be Intel-powered and USB-bootable, and won't have the limited USB bus power problem that afflicts all Powerbook G4s. Most bus-powered FW enclosures are bootable and have no trouble getting enough juice from Powerbooks, unlike nearly all USB2 enclosures. Get one that has the Oxford 911+ FW bridge chipset in it; that's far and away the most reliable bridge.

  • Solution to only TWO USB ports, please

I should have paid more attention when I bought my Mac. I didn't realize there were only TWO USB ports on board. My job requires me to be mobile, and on any given day, I could be using up to 10 USB ports. I know they make hubs, one of which I've tried, but it didn't work. Does anyone recommend a particular brand of hub that's RELIABLE and can handle both input and output?
I'm stunned that Apple would have just 2 USB ports. My old Dell had 4, and if I remember right, I could have specified even more when they were building it.
    Diane

Yes, that's the ExpressCard/34 port (labeled in this linked image). The ExpressCard port also be used for media card readers, WAN (wireless broadband) cards, etc. Good for a USB expansion hub because it's a small form factor and won't take up one of the two existing USB ports.

  • Two USB ports - Same bus?

Hi folks. I recently purchased a new 2013 MacBook air due to the two USB ports. When I plug two USB devices into it, it appears that they are being placed under the same USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Bus. (Getting this information from the System Report).
The system report shows that there is one USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Bus, and one USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Bus. I really need each device to be on it's own USB bus. Is this possible?

I'm saying that it appears that there is only a single USB bus for the MacBook Air, while all of my other laptops generally have one bus per USB port.
On the Air, both ports go to the same USB host controller. On my MBP there are two USB busses, each one going to a different host controller. I have never seen a laptop with two usb ports going to the same host controller, this is just very unexpected is all.

Right click next to one of the other headers and you will get a pop-up to enable the missing ones.

  • TS1574 optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?

optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?
this happened after taking out the head-phones. Now even after pressing CMD+ALT+P+R when booting - the sound of booting appeares BUT after the desktop is ready the sound doesn't work and sound buttons show the sign "circle with crossed line"

If there is a red light visible in the audio output port, the switch id stuck.  Insert the earphone jack a few times.  If that fails to trip the switch, try a toothpick or similar device and jiggle it inside the port.  If that fails, try a shot or two of compressed air.  If still no success, go to a repair facility.
    Ciao.

There is only one speaker, what looks like another speaker is actually a microphone. All iPhones only have one speaker down by the dock connector.

  • Recognizing two USB ports in GarageBand

I've connected two USB mics to GarageBand and created an aggregate device with the two mics in Audio MIDI. The issue is GarageBand does not seem to pick up both USB ports. I need both mics for a two-person podcast setup.

So, basically, GB is only letting you choose one of your two mics for all of your tracks and the other just doesn't appear as an option when choosing a track input?

  • What are the two buttons of the left side of the screen on my new Cosmos

The buttons of left side of the display screen of my cosmos 2 - one at top left and one at bottom left - what are they for and how and what do I use them for

This question has driven me crazy, lol, I finally know what the correct answer is. I never us the qwery keyboard since I an use to texting from a flip phone and the qwery keyboards letters are so small I just text from the front keypad. So here is what I found, if you slide out the keyboard you will notice to the left button acts as a soft key and takes you to Message if you click on messaage you can text right from there so I guess its a short cut key and the right button takes you to contacts  and that takes to to Favorites and all your contacts. Sorry about the misinformation I gave you last time. I ordered the I user Guide which contains all 292 pages of info and its free for the asking. In that little minnie book they give you with the phone it tells you where to send for it.

  • My Ipod Shuffle has fried two USB ports in my computer

    Hi!
I have been reading through all the forums, but I have not seen anything written about Shuffles burning the USB ports.
My Ipod shuffle was connected and suddenly, I heard an explosion and my computer when black. I went and changed the ipod at the store, got another one, and the same thing happened with another USB port.
Now, I change the USB dock, but still the light in the Ipod won't change to green.
    Please, let me know.
    Regards,

Apple cannot fix your PC... the warrenty for the PC is with Dell so only they (or an authorized repair centre) can repair it. Apple will repair your shuffle should it be faulty.
I would recommend trying a re-installation of Windows and if that doesn't work, contact dell for the repair.

  • USB Ports on HP Pavilion 15-e087nr Laptop Not Working

I have a HP Pavilion 15-e087nr Laptop running Windows 8.1. It has 3 USB ports and all of sudden they stopped working. It will not detect my wireless mouse, a USB corded mouse that I have or my phone when I plug it in. I checked Device Manager and under USB Devices it shows a number of choices and none of them have any errors showing so it appears the computer is seeing the ports. However, nothing works when plugged into them. Anyone have any ideas for fixing this issue? I've tried to uninstall them with no luck.
I appreciate any help that can be provided.
    Thanks

Have you tried restarting the laptop? Many times we get simply put the machine to sleep or hibernate- a full shutdown/restart can help with usb problems.
You might also try disabling "USB Selective suspend" in your Power Options plan.

  • My External HDD is not working on 2 of the 4 USB ports on my iMac. It gets power but it's not reading the HDD.

    Hi,
I have an iMac Late 2013 model. My external HD is accessible only on 2 out of the 4 USB ports at the back. When you plug the HD in all 4, it gets power, but the HD's icon will only load on the desktop if you plug it in one of the 2 ports mentioned earlier. This is my first mac and I'm thinking that I should be able to plug my external HD to any one of those ports, right?
If this isn't normal mac behavior, how do it fix it?
    Thanks!
