Iam going insane..had this problem for weeks now, when the ipod connects to the mac (tiger) it wants to change to disk mode all the time..it connects using firewire and the dock.
I have managed to wipe it using the disk utility, and re-install ver 2.3..but it still remains in disk mode, and yes i have tried numerous times the reset technique!, it just shows the apple logo then the dreaded folder with exclamation mark!!..the even stranger thing is, the only time it comes out of disk mode is when i plug the "car charger" into it, but only when the charge has reached a certain level!!!.. it seems iam doomed to using disk mode when connecting to my mac, then running out to the car and plugging it in to change over drom disk mode!! aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

The big problem is that it only seems to be in ipod mode when it feels like it!, it will sit in disk mode when connected to the mac, then i eject it and you would expect to see the ipod mode fire up and the main menu appear, but instead it shows the folder and exclamation mark, then it begins the resetting loop! and gets very warm (not good!)... but the only time ive had it in ipod mode was when i connected it to my car charger last week, after totally draining the thing!., but when i came to update it with itunes, it sat there comfortably for about 5 mins, then froze and reverted back into disk mode / exclamation folder!!?!?
Any help is appreciated

i just got a replacement 2gb nano yesterday and it worked fine... this morning i turned on itunes and it didnt show up... also it seems to be stuck in disk mode... i tried resetting, it didnt work... i cant restore it cuz the updater says it wont mount... so im completely stuck now... ive tried all the tips in the troubleshooting... or at least all the ones i could find... and nothing... does anyone know the solution???.. i use a pc laptop

Does the iPod say that it is in Disk Mode?
If so, try resetting the iPod (while it is not connected to the computer)...
You need to reset it by holding down Menu+Select for 6-10 seconds. It may take multiple attempts...

Updated my Ipad and now it wont get out of recovery mode.

I have an Ipad 4 and I decided to download the latest update for it.
The download is fine until i pick it up a half hour later and it shows me the recovery mode image. Basically telling me to connect to my computer.
I go to my computer and plug it in, but then my itunes says that in order to connect I have to restore my Ipad.
I very rarely connect my ipad to my computer, and since the last sync I have reinstalled Windows 7, so its essentially a new computer and doesnt recognize my ipad.
Doesnt restore reset my ipad? I have all of my notes from my classes this symester. I cant restore!
No matter what I have done the ipad wont get out of recovery mode.
So please I need help!!

A "Restore" WILL erase your files but you can save them. Read closely before you start.
Connect via cable to the computer that you intend to use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

What buttons did you hold down? Toggle the hold switch off and on a few times then hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display. This should reset the iPod: How to reset an iPod

You may need to try this More than Once... Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
Some users have reported as many as 8 or 9 attempts were necessary before success.
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...

My Ipod Doesnt Seem To Want To Get Out Of Disk Mode

its telling me my ipod is in disk mode... i reformatted it and it showed up in itunes and i thought great... but i disconnected it and reconnected it and then it tells me i need to reformat it again?? and all the music gets deleted again....
and before all this it was working ok until i put on my 5th album then it jus stopped workin and then put itself in disk mode
so in conclusion.. i cant put any music on my ipod cuz its not showing up in itunes and wen i unplug it.. it tells me i need to connect it to a computer.. and the restore tells me theres sum kinda invalid firmware or disk error

I had a similar problem, but it seems I've found the fix. I see you have an Acer as well, if it's a notebook I bet it'll work for you too. (I'm on a Acer Travelmate)

How Do I Get out of Disk Mode

Ever since I tried to back up my iTunes onto CD's, my iPod Nano periodically says it's in "Disk Mode" where I can't turn it on or off, get access to my playlists or any other settings. So far the only way I can get out of this is by letting the battery completely run out and recharging the iPod through a wall charger. However, the next time I plug the iPod into my computer to download new music or charge it through the computer, it goes back into "Disk Mode". My iPod wont come out of recovery mode

My iPod is stuck on recovery mode and its plugged into iTunes but it won't update is says 55 hours remaining and I need it for school work.
It's an iPod 5 and the computer I'm using is windows XP service pack 2 3GHZ intel pentium with 1.5 GB of ram and our Internet runs at 72 Mbps.
I need an answer or even advice on how to fix everything is appreciated because it was my only Christmas present and pretty much my entire life.

This error means that the iPhone lost its connection to your computer during the update.
If you are using a USB hub, don't. Connect directly to a USB port on your computer. If it's not a laptop use a port on the back rather than the front.
Disconnect any high data rate USB devices (e.g., DVD drive, external hard drive).
Turn off your antivirus and firewall.
Can also be caused by a bad cable.
