Re: 970 Gaming is quite hot

Go to intel graphics control panel, select power, select max performance for the plugged in and on battery. Also disable power saving and automatic display brightness.

  • Problem with 970 Gaming Motherboard?

I am fairly certain that this motherboard (970 Gaming) is quite "broken" There are quite a few complain on this forum and i believe they are experiencing the same problem as i am. When i boot up my pc, sometimes it wont display image, so i need to keep resetting. Also, sometimes PC just randomly shuts off, no matter if im under load or not. This MB is quite new so i guess its kind of expected. Do you think it could possibly the BIOS?

    MOBO: MSI 970 Gaming

    Is the RAM matched kit (i.e. 2x4gb) or single modules (i.e. 2x 1x4gb) ?
Try with minimal setup: single RAM stick, no GPU, only keyboard and mouse connected, only HDD/SSD with OS on it and best if the motherboard is outside of the case.

  • [Share]Cooling down 970 Gaming!

    From MSI TW Forum
    link:https://forum-tc.msi.com/index.php?topic=113191.0
The story happened in a frigid night few weeks ago. I turned on my computer since I want to play Watch Dog, which is a very popular game recently. Huh? No response? I tried several times and wondering if I forgot to connect the plug? But I never unplug my socket! After some easy tests, I reckon the computer is dead…but I’ve just got chapter 2 of my Watch Dog!!!
I sent my computer to fix station immediately, hoping they can save my computer’s life. After a few minutes, the clerk announced frigidly “The motherboard is dead.”
One thing is still lucky, my FX-4170 and R7850 are still alive! For a new PC, I decided to replace and upgrade the original one with an AM3+ motherboard. The shop owner showed some AM3+ motherboards to me, one is MSI 970 Gaming, and this is the first time we met. :> Of course, I took it home.
    My equipment:
    CPU: AMD FX-4170
RAM: Vengeance Low Profile 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Kit
    MB: AMD 970 GAMING
    VGA: R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC
    PSU: ENERMAX Platimax 750W CrossFireX
    COOLER: Thermaltake Frio Advanced
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit
Except the cooler and motherboard, the rest are old ones.
For the heatsink design, I really like the dragon, and the cooling effect seems great.
There are only 2 USB 3.0 ports for rear IO, but you can expand with front panel.
The capacitors next to Audio Boost look very powerful.
Here is a weak point, 8 pin port of power supply is too close to heat sink, so it’s easy to get stuck if you have fat fingers…
Heat sink panel is designed with nice hair texture with classic MSI dragon shield.
    And my old friend FX-4170.
I upgrade my normal stock fan to a Thermaltake tower fan and assemble it for ten minutes with manual…
You need to take the original stand off if you need a tower fan. The new stand of tower fan looks better!
The point of this photo is the height of tower fan. For my memory the height is fine but higher level memory, like OC memories,  could get stuck because there is not enough space.
This motherboard is not too hot when it goes with normal stock fan, the worst situation is a little hot when you touch it. After use tower fan, the temperature is always between 35-42 degrees; in addition, the heat sink becomes just a little warm. I can say 970 Gaming’s heat sink design is quite good and got great result of cooling, if you use extra two fans, you  can reach much lower degrees.
The temperature is CPU constantly running half hour with 100%, the highest degree so far is 52 degrees. I think it’s low enough, because I’ve seen some CPU temperature up to 20 degrees for watching YouTube only. Therefore, I believe the importance of heat sink and fans match or not.
Of course using AMD with low temperature works very smoothly, Watch Dog can run with full mode although there  is a little latency, so just need to switch down a bit and you can enjoy it! Finally, I assembled my new computer and continue my Watch Dog. :D Although the equipment almost same with the old version, but I can feel better performance from new motherboard! In the past, use all the effect with full mode has more latency than now.
    變成了這個有希望的姿勢了…
There is a story behind the pic. When I was going to the mission location happily and found out this person robbing poor people. At that time, my justices tell me to give the poor people a help, so I knock down the robber and kick his ass “accidently “, then he laid down with this “hope pose”…
Let’s end with view of the back of Aiden Pearce.

On this motherboard are going to be aimed at gaming only, so MSI avoids adding in power/reset buttons as well as a two-digit debug which we might see on more expensive models. MSI also eschews the OC Genie button on this board, which is a shame as a basic OC would help this platform in general. Providing a lookup table of overclocks takes time for each CPU range to be considered, and perhaps it is not worth the time on the 970 chipset.

  • GTX 970 Gaming 4G - BIOS Download

    Hey,
Sorry for the extra forum clutter, but after reading the vBIOS request post I thought it would be best to create a new thread. I've read quite a few posts here that relate to updated firmware for the GTX 970 Gaming 4G card and I wanted to make sure I was getting the correct firmware for my particular card!
My serial number is as follows (last few characters obfuscated): 602-V316-09SB1411XXXXXX
    And here's the BIOS file I extracted using GPU-Z:  GM204.zip (136.45 kB - downloaded 22 times.)
    Thanks in advance!

  • MSI 970 Gaming + AMD FX-8350

    Hello,
I want to upgrade my computer and by searching around I stumbled upon the new MSI 970 Gaming mainboard. I'm really looking forward to the isolated audio PCB and even the ramdisk software integrated in the MSI Command Center would be nice to have.
But I want to upgrade to an FX-8350, too.
Officially the FX8350 has a TDP of 125 Watt. But I know that it can draw more, even without overclocking. At least 140 Watt under certain circumstances, e.g. when using burn-in tools like Prime95.
I heard of problems with a few 970 chipset mainboards, when used with power demanding CPUs like the FX8350. They usually start throttling, if the TDP exceeds a certain limit. Avoiding an early death of the mainboard, caused by the overheating of the used MOSFETs. As far as I know the throttling isn't always an issue with mainboards with 'bigger' chipsets, like the 990FX, since they usually support a higher TDP.
The 'FX8350-issue' is known for quite a while, so I'm not sure if it sill applies to the new '970 Gaming' mainboard. Besides the 'military class 4 components' nothing is said about the used components, e.g. something about the power phase, which could give somewhat of a hint.
Now what would you say, based upon your experience? Do you think that the new '970 gaming' is a viable option for the FX8350? Or should I buy a mainboard with a 'bigger' chipset, like the MSI 990FXA-GD65? And if you say 'yes' to the 970 Gaming, would it be still a viable option if I want to overclock the FX8350 (not sure if I'll do it).

Thank you both for sharing your thoughts.
@Nichrome: You're right that the mobo is vital. So getting a 990FX just makes sense. It's just because the hardware features of the 970 Gaming are just so good. Nice onboard sound, integrated headphone amplifier, nice network card, etc. It's mouth-watering so to speak I just need to be certain
@flobelix: I hoped that someone would say that, being it the last chapter of AM3+, they would make a better thermal design.
I'll think I have to give it a bit more thought. Or probably wait a bit until something is said about the thermal design. It's just that I really like the hardware features of the 970 Gaming
    Again thank you!

  • 970 GAMING black screen when boot on cold start, have to clear CMOS everytime

I have 970 GAMING w/ FX8320, it shows black screen when boot on cold start, have to clear CMOS everytime to enter default.
I have updated it to the up to date M11 bios. Once it boot up, it functions OK no matter whether you reboot or reset it. But after turned off a few hours (cooled down), it shows on black screen again on boot, all LED lights up OK, but I can hear the fan like keep rebooting, any idea?
    PSU seasonic 430W, GPU HD7750.

In what DIMM slots did you insert your memory?  I just got and at this moment building a new computer with a 970.
A horrible experience I had with my last build reminded me of it.  My board was am MSI A88XM-E45.  DIMM1 is blue, DIMM2 is black, DIMM3 is blue, & DIMM4 is black.  When using two sticks of RAM, it says to install one on DIMM1 & the other in DIMM3 (Makes sense... After all, it's color colored that way).
Well it would not boot.  I reseated every component and for HOURS tried almost everything.  Finally I decided to place my two sticks of RAM in the first two DIMMS and viola!
I think I will begin this build the same way.

  • Can anyone share a step by step instruction on how to use M-flash?MSI 970 Gaming

I've been researching online and alot of the information regarding on how to do this are really inconsistent and outdated. even the video shown here stops at the end and doesn't explain what you need to do once u get back into the bios. I've also pinged MSI tech support and they are very vague and sound speculative in their answers. HELP! this is for an MSI 970 gaming board.

procedure same as the Xpower video.
    1. Put the bios file in the root folder of your USB pen drive
    2. Go to bios --> Mflash --> Select one file to update bios
The system will then start to flash the bios.
    3. After flash success then just remember to go to bios and press F6 then F10
Note: there is always risk in updating bios, if you don't encounter any issues at all then there's no need to update your bios

I have an ipad 2 with airport express that I use to play and change music whilst teaching ballet class. Recently, I keep losing connection and the airport express appears to be getting quite hot. I did use Archos but changed to Apple for reliabilty! Can anyone help or should I just buy a new airport express.

I agree that it's probably interference. Only other possibility, since you mentioned it, it overheating. Is the express situated so that it is well ventilated? That is to say, not buried under other equipment and laying on its side? What does the status light do when you lose connection?

  • 970 Gaming and 5.1 Sound

Recently upgraded to a 970 Gaming motherboard from an Asus motherboard.
Using exactly the same speakers as before (Logitech X540 5.1)
I connect the front speaker to the front speaker connector at the back of the motherboard, likewise, the side and rear speakers to the relevant connectors. I have also downloaded and installed the audio drivers from the MSI support page, but I can not get all the speakers to work at the same time.
Also gone in to Audio properties within Windows and ensured 5.1 speaker system was selected.
Also, checked BIOS setup and it's showing as devices being plugged in to the audio connections, so they are registering.
Any tips or anyone else had problems?
    Thanks!

When you connect each speakers, do you set the realtek pop up window properly?
Does it also be configured properly under sound--Playback--Speaker--Configure?
How do you check if it's well applied?
Matrix button actually mixes all left-right speakers from 2.1(stereo) to 5.1(surround).

  • IS GTX 970 GAMING 4G compatible with MSI B75A-G43 ?

So i bought myself today this card GTX 970 GAMING 4G
When i went home to install it i found out that it does not work. the fans spool up, the msi logo lights up, but no picture on monitors, not even the bios screen. i managed to boot up with the ntegrated graphics, GTX does not show up in device manager. Motherboard bios is up to date with the last bios version from the boards support/dovnload page version  10.10
    Motherboard: B75A-G43
    PSU: Corsair CX750T
My question, are the graphics card and motherboard compatible, did i get a bad card or do i need a new motherboard.

The warranty guys did check the card out and confirmed that it was dead on arrival. So they replaced the card and i had them check first if the new one works. It did so now it's waiting until evening for some gaming action

    Hi
Check graphics card itself, should have a sticker with S/N. Else it might be hard (or impossible) to provide correct vBIOS.
