Re-add Gnome Icon to fallback mode "Applications" menu
Hello,
I'm trying to re-add the gnome icon to the fallback mode "Applications" menu. Currently, the menu only has "Applications" with no gnome foot to the left of it (like how gnome 2 was laid out):
Can anyone suggest how to re-add this icon? I've looked through my theme files but can't seem to find anything relating to the applications menu.
Thanks!

It's a bug in gnome-themes-standard:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687314
Until it is not fixed, you have the following options:
- Revert the patch and rebuild gnome-themes-standard.
- Downgrade to gnome-themes-standard 3.6.0.
- Switch to another GTK+ theme.

[Pantheon shell]No icon in wingpanel's application menu
Hello, guys.
I followed patheon's wiki page and installed almost every package listed in it.
After switching to pantheon, there is no icon in wingpanel's application menu.
However, when input something into the search inputbox, like terminal, the icon for pantheon-terminal shows normally.
I'm not quite sure what's the problem, maybe it's because I was using MATE before and changed the icon theme?
Thanks. There are third party programs that can display an application list which allow you to edit what apps are shown. I use Witch, an app that also provides some window controls. I've avoided tricks like editing the plist because doing this can effects far beyond hiding them from the application switcher.

Gnome stuck in fallback mode - not recognizing nvidia drivers
Every time I start a gnome session it is stuck in fallback mode. Checking under System Settings > Details > Graphics I see that the Driver is listed as Unknown and Experience is Fallback. Forced Fallback Mode is OFF. I cannot get it to recognize the nvidia driver (I have also tried nouveau but it did not recognize that either). I have tried re-installing the nvidia driver and rebooting, but I can't seem to fix the problem . Here are the logs that I thought might be relevant. If you need to see anything else please let me know . Thanks.

3779There is one thing I forgot to clarify, have setup up the pc as a server so I do not have direct access to the server. Everything is forwarded over ssh (using nx to connect to the server and start a gnome session). Starting KiTTY (a modification of PuTTY) with x11 forwarding I do not see any windows when I run "xinit -- /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp". I get the following:

I remember when I would start the pc that startx I could never get to run, I would always start the gui using gdm, which was the only thing I could get to work. I do not have a .xinitrc. I believe the nx connects and issues gnome-session to start the session but I am not sure. -
Gnome stuck in fallback mode?
I just installed Arch as a virtual desktop using VMware Workstation.
I have installed the drivers mentioned in the Wiki and the computer running it has excellent specs and shouldn't have a problem.
Originally at the start of GDM there was an error message in the form of a dialog box that said it reverted to fallback mode.
I would like to get it out of fallback mode or figure out what is wrong. My apologies, I should have done that in the original post.

[SOLVED]Gnome 3 only fallback mode
I've got an ati radeon hd 4350 graphics-card. I'm using the radeon driver. But, gnome 3 will only boot in fallback mode. Mesa-demos is installed. Glxinfo | grep rendering yields "direct rendering: Yes".
According to Gnome 3 system info, my graphics driver is "Gallium 0.4 on softpipe "
"gnome-shell --replace" yields "failed to create drawable

I know there are quite some topics about this already, but none of the solutions proposed in other topics worked.
How can I enjoy the gnome "full experience"?
Thanks!

Gnome 3′s fallback mode minimum panel size
Hello everyone, I'm new to the international forum but not to archlinux, I use it since 2008.
I open this topic for a problem. it is possible to edit or the minimum size of the gnome panels 3 fallback does not depend on normal size of the font used?.
Now it is 29 but I want it to 24.
I found this guide:
http://k3rnel.net/2011/07/04/gnome-3s-f … anel-size/
anyone can help me to use it?
Thanks to allIt's all because of usermenu applet. You can delete it if you don't need it. Than you can make 24px panel.

Is there a way to add an icon or name a application tab if nothing comes up with the app?
I was going to add a tab to a site I use to find part for BMW motorcycles the site is bench mark works but it has no icon with it so the app. tab is a gray box this is hard to locate when i have many tabs.
Is there a way to either add a icon or a name to the box'''Bookmark Favicon Changer''' (77.8 KB): Right click your bookmark to change favicon
:https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-favicon-changer/
'''Some methods of generating favicons'''
* '''FavIcon from Pics''' -- favicon.ico for your website, Chami, creates a favicon from a picture on your computer such as a graphic file generated via [http://www.picpick.org Picpick] or other [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Screenshot_software screen capturing software]. Excel is an excellent way to create square formatted content for a favicon.

* '''Favicon Generator''', Salvatore Sanfilippo, generate single letter with background, or up to 5 letters across top and across bottom for a favicon.
* '''Dynamic Drive- FavIcon Generator''', 16x16 (24x24, 48x48) image via grid, provides for animation as well.

[Solved] Gnome 3.6. - no application menu after update
After the Gnome-Shell-Update there are no applications anymore in the Gnome desktop. I have to start programmes with 'Alt + F2' and it's not possible to pin them in the Dash. They don't appear in the Gnome's desktop search either.
If I'm starting alacarte the error message "can not load menu tree 'applications.menus'" appeared. Has somebody an idea how to fix this problem? Thanks in advantage!
Last edited by flowie (2013-02-16 19:31:32)I found the solution:
The applications.menu in ~/.config/menus/ was empty. I copied the application.menu from /etc/xdg/menus/ to the .config-file. Now, everything works fine. -
How to add URL Icon for each responsibility
Hi all,
I have a requirement where i need to add URL Icon to my custom application, i,e when i click on responsibity it will open the application so to make user to know he is in this application we need to add ICON to URL. This is possible in normal HTML just we need to include these two lines in head tab.
<link rel="icon" type="image/ico" href="favicon.ico"></link>
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico"></link>
How can we achieve the same in the OAF?
Thanks
BabuHi Josephine
Please proceed as below:
1. SE51.
2. Change the layout.
3. Add 2 pushbuttons at your desired location.
4. Double click on each button for Attributes.
5. In the attributes, give the Name, Text.
6. Select the Icon Name from the list: Eg: ICON_OKAY and ICON_CANCEL.
7. Go back to layout.
8. Save & Activate
9. Now you can test the screen to check the icons displayed in the screen.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards

Hello,
I've recently installed Arch on my new laptop. I'm using gnome. I can't see the icon of Eclipse in 'Applications' menu. It's not a serious problem for me, but i like, when my Arch works perfect.
Today I've installed some KDE apps (from official repo) and I can't see icons at all. No icons in gnome menu, no icons in toolbars and menus.
I think there's a problem with default paths for icons in gnome. I have this problem on two computers (on both Arch was installed in last week).
Edit:
Eclipse: Icon path in eclipse.desktop is /usr/share/eclipse/icon.xpm - there's no such file.
After installing kdebase-runtime I can see icons in toolbars and menus (and applications looks better). It's interesting, that kdebase-runtime is not required by some KDE packages (for example kdegames ).
I'm still working on icons in Gnome menu.

but is the missing eclipse button really a kde related issue? (i´m using gnome)
btw. some other icons such as the one for vidalia (gui for controlling tor) are missing too -
Arch Logo & Gnome Applications Menu
Does anyone know how to change the gnome-foot icon to the arch logo?
I am reffering to the icon next to the Applications menu.....silly me. I was googling all over the place and never thought about the logos page. Thanx for your help!

Xfce application menu plugin icon size
I'm trying to figure out how to make the application menu icon size larger than the window button icon sizes with the Greybird theme, just like it is for Greybird Classic in the picture.
I have tried the "panel-applications-menu" string in both my .gtkrc-2.0 file and in xsettings but it is either not being respected or I'm not using it correctly. What specifically controls the icon size for the applications menu icon size?

Gnome Fallback mode trash icon problem
clicking on trash icon (which I added to my bottom panel in Gnome Fallback mode) opens Shotwell photo manager.
Also in Places list in top panel, clicking on Home, Desktop or Computer opens Shotwell too.
This started in the last day or so when I noticed it was opening K3b.
I removed K3b from my system and now Shotwell has repaced it as the default for Trash, Home, Desktop and Computer.
Thanks
Regards

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687314
Until it is not fixed, you have the following options:
- Revert the patch and rebuild gnome-themes-standard.
- Downgrade to gnome-themes-standard 3.6.0.
- Switch to another GTK+ theme. -
Could you please add to the smaller windows in mission control the icons to the open applications
Please Apple add this feature. I loved spaces and could see in the open windows better to know where I'm going. Just add the icons to the small windows and that should take care of the problem. I'm getting lost because I'm not sure which the application is in what window.
Apple don't read these forums, they're for user-to-user only. You want:

Gnome 3 going into fallback mode
"I just installed Arch as a virtual desktop using VMware Workstation.
I have installed the drivers mentioned in the Wiki and the computer running it has excellent specs and shouldn't have a problem.
Originally at the start of GDM there was an error message in the form of a dialog box that said it reverted to fallback mode.
I would like to get it out of fallback mode or figure out what is wrong."

The last I heard, the Gnome Shell doesn't play well with VMware due to the shell's 3D accelerated graphics requirement, but I've heard it has better results with VirtualBox. I don't really know though. I've never tried to run Gnome 3 in a virtual environment, but here's some links if they help:

Thanks, I'll give it a look.
I've been hearing Virtualbox a lot, so I might try that instead.
