Re:  Airport connection to printer

Hi.
Issue:
Unable to connect Airport Extreme to printer & external hard-drive using USB hub.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi Tesserax,
Thank you soooooooo much for the quick reply and, of course a very simple to solve solution.
Everyone has always told me, 'no, can't be done.'
So, I'm grateful!

  • Airport connect to printer?

I am using Snow Leopard & Epson WorkForce 500 & Apple Extreme base. I followed the directions from Epson's site.
With your printer connected to Apple Extreme & turned on,
    1. Open System Prefs.
    2. Select "Print & Fax.
    3. Select the"+" below the printer box.
    4. If the printer shows up in the box, check the box that says "Share this printer...."
    5. Select "Sharing Preferences..."
    6. The printer should show up the box "Printers", check the box to the left.
    7. To the left under "Service" check the box "Print Sharing".
    8. Open "Print Preferences" & your printer should be listed at the top and its status should say "Idle".
You are now ready to print thru Airport Extreme.
I hope this helps, it took me a while to get it to work.

A printer connected directly to an Apple AirPort base station shouldn't have to be shared by a computer. It's already being shared by the AirPort base station.

  • My new airport express does not connect my printer to my computer?  My old airport did! then I updated to OS 10.9.2.  How do I get it connected?

My new airport express does not connect my printer to my computer.  The old airport did.  I recently updated to OS 10.9.2.  I have since bought a new
HP 6700 all in one wireless printer,  got the latest Comcast router.  None of which connect to my computer wirelessly.  Which do I throw away the printer, router, or Mac?  Help

    Contact HP for support.
Explain that you are using a Mac, anticipate the inevitable groan, and wait patiently for their resident Mac expert to return from vacation.
Until then download and install its driver here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=5058338&cc=us&dlc=en &lc=en
Otherwise return the printer and purchase one from a company that visibly supports OS X. HP isn't on that list.

  • How to connect a printer to Airport in WIFI with Windows

    Hi,
I just would like to know how to connect my printer (Samsung) to my Airport network through WIFI (My computer is working with Windows).
    Thanks

Well the easiest would be to plug your printer directly into your extreme using either the USB or Ethernet connection.
Make sure you then install bonjour and use the printer wizard to convert your printer...

  • I cannot find the 'WPA passphrase' to connect my printer via wireless and cannot find it in Airport utility (MAC says it cannot find any open airports)

    MAC OS X 10.6.3 - desktop Mac
I browsed similar questions and saw that someone recommended going to the Airport Utility and then selecting manual set up or something- anyways, it could not find any airports. I have brought my printer from my house as my BF's has died - this is the first time it's asked for a WPA passphrase. We tried a very long series of capital letters and numbers as well as the password for the internet and both times the printer said "invalid passphrase"..... ......

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

  • Connecting a Printer to USB and AirPort Express Simultaneously

I have a Samsung laserprinter - the only connection on it is USB. I currently have this connected to a XP laptop.
Aswell as connecting it to my XP laptop, I wish to share the printer around the house. The other computers around the house are a combination of Macs and PCs.
It sounds like a strange request - but - I want to be able to connect the printer to my laptop and to the airport express (for the sharing part) at the same time.
I notice around the web that there are several devices you can buy, which are effectively USB 'splitters' for connecting a USB printer to 2 USB computers at the same time.
Could I use one of these 'splitters' in conjunction with the AirPort Express? In that way, I'd be able to connect the XP laptop to the printer via USB, and the rest of the house would share via the USB/Airport connection.
(Incase anyone asks, the XP laptop is on a different LAN network to the rest of the house, hence the problem).
Has anyone tried this? If so, can anyone recommend a make/model of such a 'splitter' that is proven to work with the AirPort Express?
(Or even better, maybe there is a device out there somewhere that does this without having to buy 2 devices).
    Thanks,
    Brad

USB is not designed to have two controllers at a given time. Therefore I would not trust one of these devices. It may damage the USB port on your laptop or the AirPort Express (AX).

  • Connecting to printer via airport

    I have a 13" Macbook Air late 1010.
    I also have a 27" iMac. Bought August 2010.
I am using a Time Capsule as my router connected to my livebox with ethernet.
My Canon Mp560 printer is connected wirelessly to the iMac through Airport and works fine.
When I try to connect the Air it will not find the MP560 although it found the previous HP.
If I connect the printer to the Air with USB it works fine, as soon as I disconnect no printer found.
    Any idea's would be appreciated.
Happy new year to all in the Mac community.
    John.

To what is the printer connected? If it's connected to the TC then be sure you have Printer Sharing turned on and that the TC is connecting to the printer. If the printer is connected to your iMac, then be sure Printer Sharing is activated on the iMac. Then you need to Add the printer on the MBA. You need to have the printer driver for the Canon printer installed on each computer.

  • "Communication Error" message when printer is the AirPort-connected

After two years of using (and hundreds of pages printed), the printing on the Epson Stylus Photo R340, connected to the AirPort Express ('n' edition) ends just after a few centimeters of printing (now it's in 100% cases), showing one of the error messages below:
    - Printer paused (resuming/re-pausing leads to no further progress). In this case the printer is sometimes paused also un System Preferences > Print & Fax, but resuming in this level again leads to no progress
    - Printer shows "Communucation Error"
    - Printing dialog shows no error or pausing, but the result is the same as above
Removing the print task in printing dialog doesn't have any influence on the printer. In all these cases it's necessary to turn off the printer to start from the beginning.
When the printer is connected straight to the computer via USB cable, it prints as expected.
There were no software installations recently, except Apple system updates via Software Update.
Does it mean that Apple kisses the air printing goodbye or there's still hope to fix it?
    Thanks for any ideas

    Hello Syd,
thanks a lot for your suggestions. I appreciate Epson is monitoring forums like this! As I wrote above though, some of them I mentioned as performed (printer connected straight to USB port of the Mac). I also several times erased all the printers and added them again fresh, but unfortunately all still the same.
Just a few weeks ago, I printed a few dozens of pages and this happened after every about 20 pages and after printer restart, I was able to continue. Since I started this topic, the printer will not finish any single page over the AirPort Express, but prints fine when connected directly to the mac via USB.
I just don't want to bring it across the house (yes, I know I can share it on one computer for the others, but there's no room near the computer I work on and in addition, it worked before...).
So it looks like bad luck for me so far...

  • New to Windows RC 7 - ?connect to printer thru Airport Extreme

Okay - been a mac person forever, but have to access Windows info occasionally.
I installed RC 7 on an internal drive (directly, not via BootCamp). I am trying to set up the shared printer (HPO LaserJet 1300)I have connected via USB to my wired Airport Extreme. I was wondering if someone could guide me through the Windows RC connection to printer with this configuration for dummies?
    Thanks!

The first thing I would suggest is to download and install Bonjour for Windows. Although the current version of Bonjour is for Window XP or Vista, it should work with Windows 7. The link provides both a 32- & 64-bit version to handle just about any variation of Windows.
Then check out this iFelix article: Installing Bonjour for Windows on a Vista Business Edition PC. Again, its written for Vista, but you may be able to transpose the instructions to make fit for Windows 7.

  • Trying to Connect 10.7.5 to 802.11N Airport station to print

Hi I have been trying to connect my printer and my computer via my AirPort Utility Station 802.11N, the airport station has the Orange light on solid and is connected to my laser printer via ethernet cable (I have also tried connecting with USB). I have tried pressing reset on the AirPort Station but it has made no difference.
The error I am getting on the computer in AirPort Utility (Version 6.3) is 'No configured Airport base stations have been found. AirPort Utility will continue searching'.
Does anyone know how I can configure this as the 'Base Station' Settings in AirPort Utility are all greyed out I can not reset from the computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you

Not quite sure how your question is related to any Adobe software.

  • Airport Express Wireless Printing from Windows 8

I'm in the process of configuring a new laptop that came with Windows 8.  I want to be able to print wirelessly to an HP PSC 1315 printer connected to an Airport Express, which I had been doing successflly from an XP Pro machine that just died.  I am able to: (1) print wirelessly to the printer from a new MacBook Air (so wireless printing does work); (2) connect the Win8 machine to the internet via the Airport Express network (so the wireless network connection is OK); and (3) print from the Win8 machine to the printer when it's directly connected to a USB port (so the printer drivers are OK).  I have installed Bonjour 2.0.2 on the Win8 machine, but it's not seeing any printers.  I've also installed the Airport Utility (both 5.5.3.2 and 5.6.1.2) on the Win8 machine, but it's not finding any Airport wireless devices either.
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Steve
P.S.  Incidentally, I can't install a viable Airport Utilty (AU) on the Air since the versions that will work with my older AEs (5.5.3 and 5.6.1.2) won't install on the Air.  The Air will only install 6.1, which won't talk to my older AEs.  Apple suggested I install 5.x on another Mac and then port it to the Air via a stick.  But I don't have another Mac.  Grrr.

Unfortunately, connecting your printer to the AirPort Express does not make it AirPrint compatible. You need to have a specific AirPrint compatible printer to be able to print directly to the printer using your iPad.
Check this Apple support document for more details on AirPrint.

If you have a Mac, you might be able to use a workaround using an app like Printopia. There is a free trial, so you will know in a matter of minutes whether this will work for you or not. Just remember that your Mac must be running in order for this to work.

  • I use MACBOOK , APPLE AIRPORT AND EPSON PRINTER. I AAM GETTING MESSAGE "PRINTER OFFLINE". PRINTER WORKS WELL AND INTERNET WORKS WELL. How can I get printer to respond

I use a macbook, apple airport and epson printer. After several printer jobs, I get a message "printer offline". I have tried restarting computer. restarting printer and still cannot connect, I can print directly with a USB cable. How can I connect to my printer via the airport?

Delete the printer in System Preferences and re-add it. You may also want to restart the Airport.

  • AirPort Extreme and Printing

I have a problem trying to print wirelessly through AirPort Extreme. I have an Epson Stylus D78 and am connecting the printer through a powered 4-port USB hub. All firmware is fully up to date and I am running Leopard 10.5.3. Can you please help me?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Have you tried to connect the printer directly to the AEBS instead of the hub?
If it works, it would isolate the problem to the hub.

  • Airport Drops my Printer

I have an iBook running 10.4.7 and a Dell running XP Pro on my airport network, as well as an HP 2110 printer.
Things had been running OK, but suddenly I couldn't print to the HP. I tried deleting the printers and re-installing, to no avail.
The only thing that seems to help is to reboot the Airport (unplug the power). Then it finds the printer and the document starts. Once I get it going, it seems to do OK until the computer goes to sleep, then I have to reset the airport again for printing. Internet connection works perfectly even when the printer doesn't.
When I try to test the printer with the Dell, we never get a clean test because his computer has "issues" sometimes and I can't tell if it doesn't like the printer or if it's just being weird. He loses wireless connection way more than I do.
We would occasionally have problems with the printer where we had to turn off the printer to get it to work. It would go into a "powersave" mode and forget to wake up. The problem seems to be moving up the food chain.
I don't know what version of the Airport firmware I'm running and I'm not at home right now to check. Any ideas I can try when I get home tonight? Thanks!

  • Share Airport connection between 2 iBooks?

Hi there, I'm setting up a little roving trolley of G3 iBooks at school and they all have airport cards except for one. They are runnin OS 9.1 or 9.2
The ones with airport all see the internet/school network/postscript network printer just fine...
Would it be possible to connect the one without Airport to one of the others via an ethernet cable and connect to the internet/printer that way... sharing the Airport connection?
I'm more familiar with OSX so would appreciate any help!
    cheers
    Steve

As I recall internet sharing is not a feature in OS 9, but there was software that implemented it on those older systems. I used this software quite some time ago - IPNetRouter by Sustainable Software.
