RE Apple Mail on Yosemite 10.10.3 on MacBook Air

Actually have something positive to report, I think.  On Maverick 10.9.4 version before the update to Yosemite, if I deleted from anyplace but the inbox,
then that mail item was also deleted from the folder I have copied it to in On My Mac folders.  With Yosemite 10.10.3 (it appears that) if item deleted
and even when trash emptied with this item in it, the item still remains in the folder it was saved into On My Mac.  I don't think I am mistaken about this positive development. I loved Outlook Express that worked this way, where I could clean out everything everywhere but still store mail, according to my own labeled folders; now Yosemite 10.10.3 seems to be doing this, when Maverick didn't.  I'm happy with this.  Am I correct, do others find this also or am I missing something?
Happy to be happy about Yosemite upgrade in this regard, for if what i believe i am observing is correct, it would mean I could empty out inbox,
sent and trash completely, and only save mail that I am interested in, into folders with names that I create.  Am I correct?  Don't want to be
'sorry later' for aspect not understood now.  Would appreciate confirmation that the way I am experiencing this is accurate and others experience too.

That is how mine works.

  • How do I remove Apple Mail app from the dock on my Macbook Air, Maverick version?!?

I am using OS X version 10.9.2 (Maverick). The Apple Mail app is frozen and stuck on my dock. How do I remove it?!? The icon is active (light below) but I have quit the application. Also, I cannot open the application anymore either (I click to open, but nothing happens). Help!

I just tried trashing everything in the Mail package contents and restarting my Air. However, it says that Mail has cancelled restart and that I should try quitting Mail (which I have done, multiple times)..... Please help!

  • Can I use Time Machine to retrieve mail that was in Trash on my MacBook Air, after I emptied Trash?

Can I use Time Machine to retrieve mail that was in Trash on my MacBook Air OS X Yosemite, after I Emptied that Trash?

Interesting question. I don't think you can because Time Machine would have deleted the data in subsequent backups because it was removed from the computer. But you never know about these things until you actually try it, which I've never done. So, why don't you give it a try. Worst that can happen is it's not there and you're no worse off than now.
If you need help with restoring mail from Time Machine: Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine. Also open Mail and select Mail Help from Mail's help menu. Search for 'restore mail' and see if you don't find some instructions there, too.

  • I would like to know why Apple doesn't have Glossy Widescreen Display on MacBook Air

I would like to know why Apple doesn't have Glossy Widescreen Display on MacBook Air ?
MacBook Air looks like a "vintage" laptop with that horrible screen frame.

Apple may consider your suggestion if you suggest it to Apple directly.

  • How to always show the BCC field in Apple Mail in Yosemite

I've been searching for this through various websites, but the instructions I've found correspond to older OS versions and I cannot find how to do this for Mail in Yosemite.
I would like to be able to see the BCC field in all Mail message windows. I've figured out how to bring up the BCC field while composing an email, but I can not see the field when I review my sent mail.

I can only speak to Yosemite 10.10.1  and Apple Mail 8.1 at the moment. You can simply press Command-Option-B while in Mail and it should toggle the setting. You can see the option in Mail by pulling down the "View" menu in the Menu Bar where you can simply tick beside "BCC Address Field."

  • How to set default email account in Apple Mail for Yosemite?

For some reason, after my upgrade to Yosemite my default accounts are no longer selected as default. I am now sending from an account I only receive email to, and have to change it with every single email I compose. Mavericks didn't do this.
Has anyone had a similar situation with multiple email accounts in Apple Mail? Any idea on how to force a default?

If you go to Preferences > Composing there is a dropbox for "Send new messages from:"

  • Apple Mail in Yosemite not downloading complete messages

    My Set Up:
    - Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch.
    - Yosemite 10.10.1
Since I upgraded to Yosemite, my Apple Mail is not downloading email content. I have to manually click on each message header to download the content of that email. See the screenshots below.
This screenshot shows how the message appears in the Inbox when it comes first.
And if I don't do anything it will stay as is. And the below image shows the message with its downloaded body after I select the empty message.
How can I make the message download automatically (the way it was before I upgraded to Yosemite)? Not having my message download messes up with other Smart Mailboxes.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Ok. Thanks.
I archived maximum email from my account and left around 300 messages in my Inbox + Sent Items.
Then I Rebuilt the account. I saw in the lower left corner the Mail Activity status where it started downloading the messages.
In parallel I had the Activity Monitor open to check the CPU usage. It was around 30%.
It took around 5 to 10 mins to download those 300 messages. But on my mail app only some of the messages were completely downloaded while rest only showed the header and no body. I left it that way.
The Mail Activity is done with its job. The status bar is gone. But the Activity Monitor still shows Mail app at similar CPU utilization levels (around 30%).
The issue is that my Mail App does not show any additional messages downloading with their bodies. Its almost like it is stuck at message number X.
While the CPU is still showing 30% utilization by mail, I have switched the UI to NOT show any conversations. This way every  message is visible in the list. I have put the mac on Caffeine for next 5 hours so that it does not sleep.
    Will update the thread tomorrow.
    Thanks for your help.

  • My apple mail application won't work on my macbook, iPad, or iPhone.

About a week ago, my apple mail (aol and google accounts) stopped pulling. They won't work on any of my apple products. It keeps saying unknown error. It will add my contacts for google and calendar, but nothing for AOL.
I have erased my computer and reinstalled the new operating system thinking maybe something was missing (component wise) but it still won't work. I don't know what to do. Please help.

This is what I am seeing on my screen. It won't let me even add a google or AOL account. It keeps saying there is a connection error.

  • Does apple make a black charging cable for a MacBook air?

    Hi All,
I'm looking for a black charging cable for my new MacBook Air. I realize that this sounds like a ridiculous request, but my cat has an affinity for white cords. Anyone know where I can find one?

    Bloody Cats,
I have  a similar problem unfortunately they don't, the Patent protection on Apple's Mag Safe tech is mostly likely why you can buy a non Apple one.

  • OS X Yosemite is very slow on Macbook Air 2011

After upgrading to 10.10 my 2011 11-inch Macbook Air became very slow. Sometimes it even freezes for about 5 seconds. I've tried to reinstall system 2 times but it didn't help. So the problem i think is in 10.10 itself. Right now I installed 10.9 because 10.10 is unusable. Does anybody experiencing such problems with Yosemite on 2011 Macbook Air.

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Copying Mail, Safari, Firefox Settings, etc. to new MacBook Air

I'm getting my girlfriend a new 11" MacBook air for Christmas.  She now has an older white MacBook that has a dying display.  I want to set up the new Mac for her so everything is seamless.
Most of this won't be a problem, since I know her administrator password, wi-fi settings, etc., and I can easily copy her documents.  She doesn't use any 3rd party software at all, other than Firefox and Carbon Copy Cloner.
However, I want to be sure that I can copy all of her Mail messages, Mail account info and settings, as well as her bookmarks for Safari & Firefox over to the new Mac.  I will also want to copy and update her iPhoto library.
Her old MacBook is running Snow Leopard, 10.6.8, and of course, the new Air will have Mountain Lion.  She does have an external backup drive with a clone of her internal drive.
A few years back, I saw a post in these forums giving the exact location of all of the above mentioned files for transfer, but I can't seem to find anything like that now.  I'm also wondering if any locations for these items have changed with Lion and/or Mountain Lion.
And my final question is:  is the migration assistant dependable enough now to handle this, rather than me just doing it manually?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Migration Assistant can do this without issues. Setup Assistant will ask you to restore the backup
