Re-arrange user icons

I have 4 users on my iMac running OSX Lion. How can I re-arrange the order of the user icons on the sign-in page?

I don't think they are displayed in the order created since the list reads 2, 4, 1, 3...the numbers represent the order in which the account was created. They aren't listed alphabetically, either. Any other ideas? The reason this is important is that my wife is visually impaired and has a hard time seeing her account icon when it is at the left end of the list.

Hello - I'm posting this here as recommended - didn't get an answer on another forum.
Hi - first problem with my year old mac, and first question here. Apologies if this one has been answered already - I looked through a few pages of the forum, but not all of them.
For some reason one or maybe 2 of my folders has stopped remembering how I've arranged the icons. This only happens when I restart the computer - otherwise the icons stay where they are. Also the background gets reverted to the default state on reboot. This only happens with my main hd folder - the one in the top right of the screen, and maybe my applications folder, although I haven't checked that one thoroughly.
It could be that the ds.store file is getting hosed somehow on reboot - any ideas why this might be happening?
This is a single user computer, btw.

See if this Making Finder window views persistent, authored by Scott Radloff, helps.
Also, positioning icons, too close to the edge of the window, will cause them to reposition themselves on restart.
Positioning them too close to each other, will cause this as well.
Depending on how many icons are displayed, the Size of the icons, as well as the Text size & Label position can also factor in. Experiment with these settings.
My folder icons usually do not reposition themselves, and this is how I have my View Options set.
Icon size: 32 x 32
Text size: 12 pt
Label position: Bottom
I have none of the following options selected.
Snap to grid
Show item info
Show icon preview
Keep arranged by
A different configuration may work for you. Experiment with the options until you find something suitable.
With the folder window open,
From the Finder's Toolbar, position your cursor over "View" and pull down to "Show View Options", and click. Or use the Command + J keys.

How can I change a user icon position?

How can I change the position that Yosemite determines for where a user icon is positioned on the login screen? I'm the admin and I added a standard user and the icon placement for that user is first, I'm second, and Guest User is third...it does not appear to be alphabetical. I'd like to switch the first two so my user icon is the first one on the left.

Locate a folder icon you wish to use. Select it and press COMMAND-C to copy. Select the folder you want changed. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the top left you will see that folder's icon. Click on it then press COMMAND-V to paste.
If you want to create your own icons then you will need an application to do that. For example, Folder Icon Changer 3.0.7.
Google searches will locste tons of pre-made folder icons you csn use. Some are free and some are not.

Once I enter password for myself (administrator) spinning takes longer than normal and doesn't log in but displays a no sign (circle w line through it) when attempting to login from guest account it takes me to screen that says that the computer will restart to a safe safari system for the guest user. I waited for a longer time and the grey denim screen comes up. By the apple in left upper corner it said I think LSA? Then safari menu bar. The page it loads to us file:///System/Installation/CDIS/Mac%2005%20X%20Utilities.app/Contents/Resource s/English.iproj/GuestLoginInfirmation.html
Can someone HELP? I'm afraid I might do something wrong

My user icon has disappeared to be replaced by a user icon with a ? Inside it, displaying the message update needed, consequently I cannot enter my MacBook. Can anyone throw some light on this. I

Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).

Login screen sometimes without user icon & apple logo animation

Sometimes when I boot my MacBook Pro the login screen doesn't show my user icon and the apple logo is in it's final position without the sliding up animation. Is this a general know bug/isssue in lion? Luckily the password field is shown...

Still facing this problem running OS X Lion 10.7.2. No one else having this kind of bug?

Why does my user icon keep changing?

Hi all,
It's not the end of the world but annoying just the same - I set my user icon to one of the standard Lion icons when I first set up my new MacBook Air and later changed it via System Preferences to a different photo that I've stored on my hard drive. Or at least, I thought I changed it.
Lion keeps changing the user icon back to the default one that I set when I first set up my MB Air.
Has anyone else run into this issue? And does anyone know of a solution for this?
I can obviously live with this if I have to, but it sure it annoying!

I messed about with this for an hour today - trying all the ways that were suggested in these and other forums to no avail. it kept switching back to my original photo or nothing at all the moment I saved. FINALLY - I figured it out. I duplicated and cropped a picture within iPhoto and named it with my own face. Then I DRAGGED it instead of CHOOSING it to the contact card - and voila! Finally it stuck!
Such a trivial little thing but I was so tired of the "trial" photo I had posted when I first bought my computer. Good luck!

Where is the "Arrange Document" Icon in Top Menu Bar in PS CS6?

PS CS5 had icons in the top menu bar where the "Arrange Documents" icons were located. Now I can only find them in the Window drop down list. Are they still available in CS6? It was nice not having to find them in the "Window" drop down list.

Some UI (or is it UX, nowadays) genius at Adobe has reduced accessibility of frequently used features.
If there are particular arrangements you often use, assign keystrokes to the menu items.

Startup account user icon

Where does the startup user icon come from? Under accounts you can choose cat/butterfly etc.
Somehow mine has become a shadow of a person with white swooshes on a blue background. This picture is not in the list under account system preference. I like it, just don't know what made it go to this or where it is coming from.

I seem to remember, when I changed my User Picture, the default pic did disappear.
I think I downloaded a new one, but can't recall exactly from where.
I've got a copy here Default User Picture, for you, if you want it, but I'll only leave it up for a few hours.
Go to that link, do a Save As, from the browser File menu.
Then deposit the downloaded file into
HD > Library > Users Pictures.

Unusual icon next to User icon in Console One

Hi, I was hoping to locate a list of Novell icons for Console One, as I need to identify an icon which has appeared next to an existing user.
The existing user has the standard user icon, then a symbol which looks like a few dots circling anti-clockwise to an arrow.
I can't work out how to paste or attach an image to this post, but the icon is roughly like a reverse refresh symbol.
When I view the same tree in iManager, this user doesn't appear at all, either when I search that OU or when I search from the root of the tree. Just wondering what is the status of this user account and why this icon.

Going by your description I'm guessing this is an alias, meaning it is a
pointer to the real user. If you go to the Other tab in ConsoleOne I
think it'll show you the Object Class which is probably 'Alias'. This can
happen if you move an object and choose to leave an alias behind so that
references to the old DN still work.
Why would this show up in ConsoleOne but not iManager? Perhaps one
replicas has the object while others do not and it's a coincidence based
on which client (iMan/C1) hits which server. Query all servers via
iMonitor to see what they show respectively.

User Icons Doubled After Update

Hello,
My 3000 N100 (0768 - A49 running Vista Business) did a curious thing after a Windows update. It created 2 sets of user icons. In other words, it created an identical duplicate set of the original 2 user profiles/icons that I created (one for admin, the other for daily use), so that when I log on, the screen displays 4 user icons instead of just the original 2. As far as I can tell, it doesn't matter which set I use to log on with, because the computer environment where I end up seems to be right and I see no difference.
This doesn't seem to have any bad functional effects (though I don't really know for sure). It's just really curious and very annoying.
Also, I'm pretty sure this happened after a Windows update and not a lenovo update. It was a very big batch of updates from Microsoft, so I haven't isolated which particular one might have caused it.
Any help is much appreciated.

it seems that update KB938979 and sort of biometric software, may be fingerprint reader are
causing problems.

Can't get my user icons to show up in Logic 7.2

I have tried Logiconizer and some png. files from the LogicFiles web site and I
have placed my user icons in ~/users/me/library/application support/logic/logic resources/icons and HD/library/application support/logic/logic resources/icons
but when I open Logic they are no where to be found.
This has been driving me nutz for weeks now.
Any ideas?

sure you've put them in the USER folder and
not the ROOT folder? Easy to mix up, after all...
Actually I had them in both root/. . . and user/ . . . and nothing worked until I opened the package contents of the Logic Pro app itself and placed the icons in the icons folder naming them 001.png and on.
AS I said in my last post they did replace some native icons even though the native ones were named 1.png and so on but I'm happy with the result.
Naming them 325.png and up did not work for me.

ITunes User Icon Photo

Does anyone know how to set the user icon photo in iTunes? It has my name next to it on the new Yosemite iTunes - but the icon is empty, as if it's waiting for me to set the photo.
It also happens when I'm logged in on the Apple Store online.

Accidental erasure of 'Music' and 'User' icons..

I accidentally pulled off and erased the Music and User icons on the left-hand side of the box when I open the Harddrive...I did this once before but forgot how to bring them back...help !
