Having trouble Arranging app icons and moving them from page to page

Since wiggling the icons doesn't work, maybe a reset of your iPad would clear this. Hold the home and on/off buttons down together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Then try the wiggling again.

Every time apps are updated they get moved. How do we permanently keep each in place?

Update through iTunes. It's safer anyway and takes less time (at least with the 2.1)

It seems really simple, I found the relevant place in the user manual it said this: "Customize the Home screen using iTunes: Connect iPhone to your computer. In iTunes on your computer, select iPhone, then click the Apps button to see the image of the iPhone Home screen".
I did that several times; if I unplug the phone and plug it back in the "apps" the in iTunes reverts to the same annoying arrangement on my home pages, if I do not unplug the phone iTunes stays the same. I have restarted both my phone and comupter.
This started because I synced my phone last night and this morning Facebook will not load although it tells me that I have messges. It seemed like a good time to get the dang thing in order. So I deleted the old Fb app and tried to add a new one via iTunes and it shows it as "will install" but when I sync nothing happens.

You know you can arrange them without connecting to iTunes?
Press and hold an app icon until it "jiggles" and an 'x' appears in the top left corner. Then you can move any of them to whichever screen you want. I find when I add apps it puts them on my last page of apps in the last open space.

Changing App Icons

I know how to change an App icon in OS X, show package content then resources, then copy the new icon and name it same as old one,
after giving the old icon a different name, but although I do that icons doesn't change, or they change randomly maybe after few days a week
or never, before it was ok but since I used some beta for Yosemite a year ago this problem started to happen, is there any solution ?
strange thing is still my new icon is there with correct name and old icon is there with renamed name but still icon doesn't change in applications

I found it much easier to have my apps on the last page and let the pre-loaded apps stay where they are on the first couple of pages. While I'd prefer to have my apps first, at least they are all together. I found it far too much work to try to move them around another way, plus it shifts some things around in a way that I did not intend.
BTW, I definitely prefer the Fascinate's arrangement of the icons over the Droid X2, which is always in alphabetical order in a vertical non-stop continuum.

How do you view app icons by Genre in Itunes 11.01.12

I'm sure you used to be able to click "Genre" view. I can more easily recognize my apps by icon than by name.
When I click view options and try to sort by genre, nothing happens. The only way I can sort my app icons is by filtering them.
What happened to arrange by Genre?

They can be sorted by device type, all, or list.
The only thing that can be done in is list view to select "Genre" and it will sort by the appropriate type.
Frankly, if the apps are more easily recognized by the icon, go to the All view or device type view.

Re-arrange Apps

How can I re-arrange Apps? There are some apps that I will never use that I'd like to clear from the "Desktop" and some I'd like to move to a different page.

Touch an app and hold onto it until the app icons start to wobble.
Then move them around as you like. After you are done, hit the home button to finish

Try a hard reset first. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If that doesn't work, unsync and resync the apps from your iPod via iTunes.

Arranging Apps on Mac/iTunes not keeping settings

I have synced, rearranged, removed but it keeps adding back the ones I've deleted and puts them in a new spot. I've got my app icons arranged where I want them. Then I have unchecked or clicked the circled X and it keeps changing what I've done or I lose what I've done. Getting frustrating. I don't usually have this many problems with Apple products.

I really hate to say this but Duh. Sorry, I had to. Of course I do. It's either Apply after arranging or Sync. I guess it depends on what all I have changed but yes. I think I've got it now though. Not sure what is going on. As I was typing though...I had just unchecked Angry Birds and was downloading Angry birds HD. Then once it was done it add back Angry Birds regular and now they're both side by side. Like it was magic or something.

You can't lock apps on a screen or lock folders to prevent them from being moved around.

App icons and syncing/updates

This is not a huge issue (I don't think), but it is VERY ANNOYING!
I have noticed that when I update apps on the iPad, it shuffles some of the icons (not necessarily the ones being updated) to different pages. Also, when I synch with iTunes I move the icons to the page I want, however, when I click apply some of the icons are stored in different pages than what I moved them to.
What the heck? If I cannot manage my stuff from iTunes, where do I manage it from? Is there some mysterious setting that I cannot see?
It is not a space issue as most of my pages still have slots available for apps. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are you enjoying the ability of re-arranging apps on the computer rather than having to do it on the iPhone? I sure am. Of course you have to have iTunes 9.0 and the iPhone 3.1 software update but it's finally here! Tom

Ok ... I must be doing something very wrong here. I have been trying to arrange the App icons on my phone both directly on the phone and using the new feature in iTunes ... I have the same problem each time ... I move an App from one line to the next and it moves other Apps that I have just put in place ... It's like the most frustrating sliding block puzzle that I have ever played!!!
Is it an IQ test set by Apple to ensure that iPhone users are clever enough or have I just lost the plot?

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

Anyone know how to delete an app icon bookmark?

I'm using an iPhone 4 with the 5.1 iOS. I downloaded an app for LG which turned out to be just a Safari bookmark with an app icon. It looks like a regular app but when you click it - Safari opens and it takes you to the LG webpage. Now I want to get rid of it and I can't. It doesn't appear in the list of apps in iTunes in the Sync Apps area, although it does show up on the phone and in the phone panel in iTunes. When I click on the app icon in itunes (in the phone panel) - it highlights it, but there's no X, and right-clicking doesn't do anything and pressing doesn't do anything either. It does not appear in my list of bookmarks in Safari either. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Thanks!
