Re-arranging playlists

Hey, so I have a few playlists that i go to at key moments. They have a nice order to them, but sometimes when i am driving or walking I want the selection of songs in my playlists but not in the order that i created them in itunes. I notice that ipod will not shuffle within the playlist itself (whynot apple?).
Fine i thought, I will just re-arrange them in itunes and save it as a new playlist.
so i went to my playlist and clicked on the "name" tab and la dee dah my playlist is now arranged alphabetically. Cool, that is good enough for me. I just saved it as a re-ordered version of the original playlist.
BUT, when i went to play it on the ipos it plays the original order, as if rearranging with the tabs in itunes does not affect the actual order. How LAME! The software for the ipod refuses to shuffle songs in your playlist, and you cant easily make a manual permanent reorderd version of the song easily! Im guessing that if i physically drag each song to another location in the playlist everything will work, but that will be so utterly annoying to do for a 100 song playlist!
Does anyone have a solution to the problem of a stale playlist order without having to do the painstaking manual shuffle method?

  • Arranging playlists.

I subscribe to a pod cast and have several problems with it. First and foremost, the playlist I created for it WILL NOT allow me to change the order of the items. Secondly in downloading the pod casts it will only allow me to reverse the order of ALL the items, not allowing ANY OTHER change in the order. Thirdly, the playlist, whether from podcast or the playlist itself will only download to my iPod in reverse order.
What kinda of lousy coding is this? And please don't insult my intelligence by telling me the bright boys and girls Apple has writing its code are unable to find a workaround for this.

Hey there... I am getting the same problem you are describing on my mac - running itunes 9.0.2 I have been using itunes for about 8 years and never before had problems where I couldnt reorder my songs (once I selected the left hand column)... This is quite confusing. Everywhere I look people say make sure you have selected the first column in the play list where the tracks are numbered, as opposed to artist, or title etc..... Done that. and make sure its not on shuffle.... Done that. But still I cant reorder the tracks??? This is weird!??
Anyone able to see if I have missed something?
    Cheers, Steve.

  • Arranging playlists in itunes

never had a problem before. I just imported a bunch of new tunes. i even rebooted. now when I try to move songs up or down in a playlist, nothing happens.

Click on the left-most column header in the list (the
one with just numbers) to sort by play order. Then
you should be able to reorder the songs.
i tried this and all it did was automatically reorganize my playlist. I used to be able to manually drag and drop one song to a desired slot in my playlist and now i can't. thanks.

  • Arranging playlist songs

A how to video shows how simple it is to move the playing order of your playlist.
I can drag and drop all I want and NOTHING moves.
    What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the little black triangle is above the column of sequence numbers at the left.  If it isn't, click to put it there.   (If the triangle is above any other column, the list will stay sorted by that thing and you will not be able to move items up or down.)
Also make sure that shuffle is turned off.  In other words, the crossing curved arrows at the lower left should be gray not blue.

  • Playlists out of order

    HELP!!!
My carefully arranged playlists are not recording in order.
They seem to be writing fine, just song #1 is now song #8 when the burn is completed. I have wasted 3 cd's so far...any ideas?

  • In iTunes, why does music which has been ripped from a best-of CD continue to show the year of the CD release even after I change the year to the year of the song release in playlists?

I often rip music from CDs of artists that released songs in the '60s and '70s. When I rip the music, in iTunes it shows the year of the CD release, usually something in the '90s or 2000s. I change the year in 'Get Info' to the correct year, and it changes it fine. However, after a while, it will show the old year again, the year of the CD. This is a problem because I like to arrange playlists based on song years, and this messes with that.
Tell me: is there a way to permanently fix the reverting year problem? Also, when I spot a song that this has happened to, when I click on 'Get Info', the correct ear is still in there, and when I hit 'OK' it changes back. This is really frustrating...

In some cases the original iTunes Store metadata seems to be given preference over personal changes. If you are seeing this then
Go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data. If not it should reset as you play through content, or you can use my script UpdateTagInfo to force iTunes to read the current data from the tags.

  • Computer not getting info from mp3

I hope someone else has had this problem. All of a sudden my computer is not displaying any of the info in my zen moziac. I need to make space, arrange playlists and all the software ( both creative central and windows ) does not show the info in my mp3. It only seems to show some recent stuff i loaded to both computer and mp3. I have playlists and it shows only one in the mp3 and 3 in the computer. So in short I am unable to view all of my info to delete add or rearrange.

Are you using the factory charger or a 3rd party? I used to have a 3rd party charger that would not wake my powerbook from sleep. The only work around I could find was to pull the power and battery, then wait for the sleep light to stop flashing (5 minutes or so), plug the power and battery back in, and then it would boot (though at that point it is no longer "sleeping" and will perform a cold boot). Another option would be to try resetting the PMU. If memory serves me correctly, you removed power and the battery, hold down the power button for at least 5 seconds, then reapply power and boot.
    Good luck.

Goggles Music Manager v0.9.11 is out with the following improvements:
      - Support embedded cover art in flac files (jpg and png only).
      - Support last-fm 'now playing' notification.
      - Use "ALBUMARTIST" tag in Ogg / FLAC files and TPE2 for id3v2 tags for artist.[Tag reading only]
      - Support album art in notification to notify-daemon.[D-Bus enabled version only]
      - DBus enabled version now also support the ability to control a running gmm from the command line.
It's still using FOX and still as ugly as some people think it is
Nevertheless, it still beats the new Banshee regarding memory use and performance
Thank you very much for the ALBUMARTIST tag...
You should know tho, that the TPE2 tag has been misused... its only used by itunes and windows media player and some others. The problem: TPE2 tag was originally created for BAND/ORCHESTRA informations, which has nothing to do with ALBUMARTIST...
An alternative would be a user-chosen tag for the albumartist. Ogg/flac/mpc can do this anyway. and id3v2 has the TXXX tag for that matter.
Also do you think you will add some kind of playlist at some point? would be nice, if one could queue songs from different albums... (probably even multiple playlists as in tabs?) (Think like: mark songs: Send to playlist -> blabla)
Regarding the FOX toolkit: i dont mind. Its VERY fast, which is a nice thing. Of course it would be nice if it integrated better with gtk and/or qt, but none of those 2 can match the speed of FOX.
P.S.: Any news on the replaygain tag info reading?
    Some info: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php … Replaygain
just make sure to support the tag based approach of mp3gain too... because mp3gain has both options -  modifying the actual audio data and writing tags.
P.P.S: Another thing i want to suggest is some kind of plugin architecture... not sure if you designed gmm in a way that makes this possible. But if the possibility is there gmm is actually VERY close to foobar2000, which is a real compliment by the way

  • Where is the artwork viewer in 11.1

I just updated my itunes so it will work with my new nano, but now I can't seem to play videos in the artwork viewer - I can't even find the artwork viewer. Is there a new option for watching videos while arranging playlists, etc?

  • Audio book on ipod out of order

I've borrowed audio books from the library and ripped them into itunes. If I burn them to a CD with Nero, they're all in the right order. If I import them to my Itunes library and then to a Playlist for my Ipod Touch, they're all out of order. I know how to arrange playlists, but we're talking 250 tracks for every book here.

Make a playlist, then hit the tab at the top to put them in order.

  • Real Player/Quicktime issue

At the moment when i highlight multiple tracks and click open...i get a new player for each track instead of just the one??
I would also like to know how i can add tracks to the player while music is being played??
Basically i want to be able to open and add music tracks like in windows media player back on the PC

Dare i suggest using itunes at it is actually a data base on top of Quick Time any ways.
For Realplayer press command (apple key) +Y to open playlist box and arrange playlist to suit.
Shift Command (apple key) +N will open a REALPLAYER Web browser window!
Personal rarely use Realplayer and only have it to listen to BBC RADIO 4 !

  • Can someone PLEASE show me how to Create a play list on a ZEN TOuch

)ok from what i see so far i go on the player i select the track i want.
    2) Then i go too create play list and name the playlist
    3) But when i go to add other songs i witness 2 problems
    a) It saves all the songs for that artist
    b) it ask too override what was in the play list so i lose the songs i saved before?
    4) What is the whole point of the select as is button?
Can someone please show me how to make a play list on the player not the media source....

I don't mean to bump this after over a month, but I just found it with a search. I agree... playlist creation seems like it would be such a simple thing... and they make it so hard.
Would added playlist function be able to be upgraded through firmware?
It seems like along with the "Add to selected", there could be an "Add to playlist" thing you could click, then it would ask which plalist you would like to add it to. That way, even from the 'Now Playling' listing, you could add a song that's playing right now to any one of your playlists. Or you wouldn't have to interrupt what's playing to add a track in the library.
The Zen software is pretty terrible too... you can't even easily arrange your playlist. You have to drag the tracks. I can't just click something like "Arrange playlist by artist" or anything. It's crazy.
I love that you can do playlists... a lot of players don't even have this feature. But it seems like they could easily make it more... well... easy for us.
For a software solution, I've found the Zen Winamp plugin to be by far the best thing for making playlists. It's great!

  • How can I arrange my Playlists in Order in the sidebar?

I'm trying to arrange my Smart Playlists in alphabetical order in the sidebar. However, When I click and drag, the order of the playlists don't re-arrange themselves. Any ideas how to do this?
    Thanks!

You cannot rearrange them. They should already be in alphabetical order, smart playlists first, then regular playlists.

It does not look like this is possible with iTunes 11 (or 11.0.1).

  • How do you get your playlist to play in order arranged? My shuffle is off.

I created a playlist, when I play it on my computer, it plays it in the order as I arranged it. When I play it on my Ipod, it shuffles, nut my shuffle function is off. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's actually shuffling the songs (i.e. the list of songs play in a different order each time through the list)?
You may need to re-order this playlist in iTunes as resync it to your device.
