Re-attaching songs together

I'm sure this question has been answered before, but I can't seem to find the answer...
When one imports a CD to iTunes, every song is imported seperately and independantly. Yet, many songs are suites to one another. Shawn Phillips' "Second contribution" comes to mind: the entire side A is a suite of songs that form a 20 minute string.
When one plays this album in random mode, iTunes does just that. However, is it possible to attach songs together so they can be played in random mode by iTunes as one suite as envisioned by the artist?
Example 2: On Genesis' "Selling England by the Pound", the song 'Aisle of Plenty' is the logical ending of 'The Cinema Show'. How do I re-string those songs so they can still be played one after another, in the proper order?

When importing a CD highlight the tracks you want to join together and then go to the Advanced menu and click on Join Tracks Together. This will import them as one track. Now when you shuffle they will always play in the proper order. If you already ripped the CD you might want to check out Doug's iTunes Scripts at

Open QuickTime Player 7. Select both songs in finder and double click on them (works with mp3).
I am not sure if this is only a feature of Quicktime Pro.
There is a script on the Dougscripts web site for joining tracks but it may be shareware.
What format file? There are utilities which edit sound files but hte drawback is if you are using a lossy format (AAC or mp3) they involve re-coding which involves quality loss. If it is something such as mp3 that are utilities such as mp3Trimmer (trial version fully functional) which can join tracks without re-coding.

Link 2 songs together?

Does anyone know if it is possible to link 2 songs together so they play as one song? ie Zepplin's Heartbreaker/livin lovin maid

You could use "Join CD Tracks" from the Advanced menu when you are importing: Adding Songs from CDs to your Library

Playing songs together

Hi:
Some songs need to be heard as a unit and in order. I've tried melding songs together in other programs, but it creates "blips" at the joins. Is there a way to have songs in iTunes recognized as one song, so that, for example, you could play Abbey Road Side 2 as if it were one song.
If it's not possible, how does one send a suggestion to the software designers to add this functionality?

You can join tracks in iTunes when ripping a CD. If you have the CD, rerip the tunes and under Advanced select Join CD tracks. Note that this cannot be done to already ripped tracks or to iTunes Store purchases.

Locking songs together...taking away the pause that isn't on the recording

How do you make an album such as "The Wall or "Abbey Road" play without the skips between them on an Ipod..... I so love to hear these things in their entirety.
Also, is there a way to lock two song together? You know.... two songs that belong together that will always get separated if played in the random mode. Think Rush 2112.... Overture and Syrinx?

Tie two songs together

I'd like to be able to tie two songs together so they always play back to back, yet in a complete shuffle mode. For instance Van Halen's Eruption / You Really Got Me Down. They appear as separate songs on the CD, so they play randomly on the shuffle. Is there a way to tie pairs of songs together?

You can join tracks when importing from the CD. Insert your CD highlight the songs you want to join and choose "Join CD Tracks" from the Advanced menu and import: Adding songs from CDs to your library

Can you combine ('glue') parts of one song together

There are many artist who cut their songs in more parts. Those parts are separate files, so when you play shuffle mode, you first hear one part of that specific song, than other songs, then another part of the song, then other songs, then again a part of that 'cut' song etc, etc.
Disadvantage is that those parts end suddenly (only if played without shuffle) and you 'miss' the next part.
Is there a way in iTunes to 'glue' those parts of that song together?

Put the CD in, when it shows on itunes highlight the tracks you want joint by holding the "Ctrl" key and click ing the songs you want. If you want the whole album joint, just goto edit>select all. Now goto advanced>Join CD Tracks and then hit the "Import" button in the top right corner

Linking songs together

i was wondering if there was a way to link songs together so when playing music in shuffle mode i can set certain songs to play together before moving on to another random song. basically how can i make 2 or 3 songs play as if they were 1 song. for example, Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall Pt1" "The Happiest Days of our Lives" & "Another Brick in the Wall Pt2" is sort of a trilogy of songs that should be played in their respective order one after the other. However when playing in shuffle mode, it will randomly select songs and never plays them in order or one after the other. How can i make it so iTunes thinks the three songs are actually just one, and therefore always plays them together and in order. I have other songs that i'd like to do this with as well. Any help would be appreciated.

With iTunes you can only do this while ripping from a CD. (See the option in the "Advanced" menu.) For existing files you'd have to use some other application.

Is there an option to loop songs together when I make a playlist? I'd like the songs to fade right into each other!! I'd appreciate any help by knowledgeable owners!

What you are seeking is gapless or crossfaded playback.
In short... the iPod does not support gapless or crossfaded playback.
If you want to eliminate the gaps, one workaround is to join the individual tracks together, and play them as one single track. You can do this by reimporting the CD into iTunes using the 'Join CD Tracks' feature.

How do I get these songs together?

I purchased the Takers and Leavers EP by Dr. Dog which contained two songs for their soon to be released new album. When the album came out, iTunes gave me the option to 'complete my album' when I went to buy it, so the two songs on the album from the EP must have been recognized on my computer. When i bought the rest of the songs from the new album i altered the album info for the two songs from the EP in order to put them in place with the new album. Despite changing the track numbers, album name, etc. the old songs do not group in numerical order with the new songs. Does anyone know how I could get them together besides buring the songs to a cd and redownloading them? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You might try selecting all of the album tracks at once and selecting "Get Info" from the File menu and clicking the "info" tab (someone please tell me if it is different for Windows). From there you can enter the Artist, Album and other information on all of the selected tracks at once. Finally, make sure "Part of a compilation" is checked.
That SHOULD do it although I have had 1 or 2 albums still refuse to cooperate.

Keeping songs together

I recently imported an album that has "Intro's" for half of the songs on the album. When iTunes imported the album they treated each intro as a song. The problem is they are not linked together (so they don't play in the correct order) any other way except when you select "track" as the sort order. When I select "date added" or any other sort order they are out of order. Isn't there someway to join them in a permanent order?

Never got an answer on how to do this.

Putting songs together as albums

hello
i just upgraded to itunes 7 and there i can subdivide my songlist into showing whole albums to make it more clearly arranged (sorry, badly expressed)
but the program refuses to let appear certain songs in the same album column, even if i rewrite the tags of the files.
so for example i got 3 songs by singer A but one of them appears under "unknown album", the others appear under the album they are actually from. i can change the tag of the other one but it refuses to appear with the others.
how can i group them all together?
with some other artists it just works...

i have checked the info on the files so i am sure that the album info is the same on every song.
Are all the songs from the same album?
A spelling or punctuation mistake, or sometimes a trailing space usually causes this after the artists and/or song name, which fools the iPod into thinking that there are two different artists or songs so you end up with multiple copies. The trailing space is the hardest to spot.
Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
So to correct this, in the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. You should do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.
Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.

Keping multi-part songs together in Shuffle mode

Songs consisting of more parts and therefore files are interrupted suddenly when you use the shuffle mode to play parts or all of your library/collection. Is there a way to solve this, e.g. in iTunes or bij melting the song parts together.
Or is there another program with which you can do this?
